I gave dude an external hard drive full of thousands of travel photos into which he was to transfer photos from a failing thumb drive. First, apparently, he DELETED ALL OF THE PHOTOS I HAD ON THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I hired him fix a thumb drive gone bad; lots of travel photos that I wanted to keep. I gave him an external hard drive to put recovered photos on. I already had a slew of travel photos on the external drive as well. Aside from accidentally charging more for the deposit and more for the remainder of the payment, I just realized that he deleted ALL of the photos I already had stored on my external drive. I had travel photos from Iceland, Greenland, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Italy, Greece, Colombia, Egypt, and Jordan. Gone. All gone. I'm trying to recover these files now on my own. Something I wish I did the first time. Why in the world would you just delete 10 folders holding thousands of photos? As far as I'm concerned, dude just walked into my house and set fire to all my photo albums. Worse, I have no "negatives" from which I can reprint them. Gone forever. Thanks a lot. read more

Daryl Elliott (formerly of Mt. Vernon Computers) fixed my dead MacBook about 4 years ago, with a quick turnaround and at a great price. He even met me at Springfield Plaza for the drop-off, and when he drove off, I thought "I just gave my laptop to some guy off the internet in the Panda Express parking lot." No worries, because I went to his home for the pickup, and he hadn't left town with it. I've since upgraded to a Toshiba Chromebook as my primary laptop, but that 12-year-old Macbook is still alive. I called Daryl earlier this year when I was having problems with the Toshiba, and we talked over some options for bringing it in, or possibly fixing it myself. He gave me some good suggestions, and said he'd do the repair at a reasonable price if I ran into trouble. I ended up tracking down a very minor problem and taking care of it myself. I should have written this a long time ago but I really like to get to know a company's track record so I can write a truly accurate review. I can't say enough good stuff about these folks. Mount Vernon Computers are the only people I trust with my family's 6 computers or my Boss's 5 computers, they are so awesome. I have used MANY computer repair services from the big companies to some other local smaller ones. I was so tired of less than adequate repairs or simply a problem that was not in the other repair services' "scope" of repairs and or wanted to upcharge me for a $1600.00 cleanroom to do the job!! Daryl replaced the graphics card on my iMac back in 2016. The replacement part apparently came from China. It is 2018 and the iMac's graphics card is broken again. We looked it up and it is a faulty graphics card that Apple later recalled. So essentially Daryl charged me about $350 to replace my faulty original graphics card with the same faulty model that Apple recalled. I do not think that he knows that much about Apple computers or he would have known about the recall and purchased the right graphics card. I certainly do not feel happy about the work that was done for me. I'm down a computer again, and repairs to get the new graphics card will not be cheap. This is the only shop that can fix anything. Pricing is super fair. Very good at troubleshooting. Spoke to 5 different shops before I found these guys that could fix a keyboard that wasn't designed to be replaced. My wife and I had both our computers lock up at the same time (go figure) and were desperate for help. We found Mt. Vernon Computer Repair and Daryl was able to get both of them back in service in just a couple of days. He restored mine to Window 7 after my horrible decision to upgrade to Windows 10 (DON'T DO IT!). In the process Daryl had to restore Outlook which I use for my gmail. This wasn't has easy as it should be since I use both my computer and iPhone for email. It took two phone calls with Daryl to get it working like it did previously but he was able to fix it remotely and was great about helping me after business hours to accommodate my work schedule. I was certain that my laptop was dead after dropping it, but he was able to put all my data on an external hard drive and fix the computer, all within 24 hours, and for an extremely reasonable price. My experience with Daryl, was not at all, a good one. I took my laptop to him to recover and get my laptop working again, only for him to bring it back a day later, with what he said, was "a brand new hard drive." He told me that the hard drive had crashed and all my data could not be recovered. It didn't work, it was not new nor was the second hard drive he put in, when I took it back to him, again. My suspicion, had me call cox tech solutions, to check what he had put in my laptop, after having to sign into chrome, to use it. What he said was a new hard drive was a 2007 80gb hard drive. One would not believe the explanation given when I confronted him. I got my money back and ended the nightmare by taking my laptop to, Pro Computer, where all the data was recovered, from the original hard drive and put in a brand new hard drive. My laptop is like brand new. I was given my original hard drive to use as back up. I know, say it isn't so. . read more
