Bruce was great from the very beginning! He was quick to respond to my inquiry. He tried to help me over the phone right away in case it was something simple. When it turned out to be more, he came to my house to diagnose the issue. When it was found to be more than he could fix quickly in-site, he took my laptop with him to repair. He kept me updated along the way and made me feel very comfortable. In our initial conversation he told me, "I respect your data and will make sure to keep it in tact", this was what solidified my decision to use him. The repair was secondary, recovering my data was my top priority- and he did just that!! My laptop is back up and running and all my data has been restored. Thank you, a million times, THANK YOU, Bruce!! read more

Bruce was very responsive to my laptop problem. Although He did not have time to fix it over the weekend, he responded immediately and helped with useful diagnostic questions and lead me to some resources to understand the issue. I would use him again. read more

Bruce has handled my computer problems for a number of years and has never failed me.

Upand Running was reliable, fast and easy to use. Windows stopped working on my laptop, and I was worried about losing some of my files. Bruce from Upand Running responded to my request for help within an hour and was willing to work on the computer at my convenience. I left it with him on a Sunday afternoon, and he delivered the fixed computer to my house the very next day at no extra charge. (He was doing errands in the neighborhood.) The price was very reasonable, the service was reliable, and the laptop is working very well. Other services will hold on to your computer for days or weeks. Bruce had mine for less than 24 hours. I highly recommend his services--and would use him again in a heartbeat. read more

In trying to correct a Windows problem, I messed up access to my laptop, so that I couldn't start it at all. Bruce Maliken was recommended by contributors to the Cleveland Park and Chevy Chase listservs, so I contacted him. He was practical, creative, and fast, gaining access to remove defective software and re-install the operating system. Bruce was easy to communicate with and knowledgeable, and I feel he went out of his way to charge less than might have been justified. read more

Quick reply and helpful recommendations. Thank you up and running!

I CANNOT recommend Bruce Maliken's "Up and Running Services" for computer assistance. The issues I came to him for help with, were at a minimum, very basic. It is obvious he is quite knowledgeable about computers; however, he is NOT savvy with people skills and understanding the needs of end-users who are intimidated by technology. He was condescending, patronizing and, at times, came across to me as bored. I picked up on his exasperation over my lack of computer skills and felt within the time I interacted with him that he could hardly wait to finish with me. I truly wish I had NEVER reached out to him and hired him. He was not worth what I paid him. When I shared with my friends my experience with him, they were appalled and said, in their opinion, that I had been ripped off by this man. I agree. read more

I've hired Bruce Maliken at Up and Running Services since 2008 to deal with a number of things (I'm a transportation security consultant and my laptop and connectivity is vital to my work and to my clients). The tasks ranged from advice on which laptops to get, which programs to use and where to buy them. He's helped me get rid of viruses and malware that were once crippling, deal with software interface problems, helped install software to protect them, and done dozens of simple and complex tasks for nearly 12 years. He is VERY responsive, easy to deal with, top notch technical knowledge, and besides, he has a nice first name (My name is Bruce too). Hey seriously, you can't go wrong. Big thing or little thing, he's the guy to call -- can do most things remotely which really helps and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend Up and Running read more

I was preparing for a very important presentation when my PCU crashed and was completely unresponsive. You can imagine my panic that I was going to completely blow it with a big client. Thank God I had heard of Up and Running Computer Services from one of my clients. Bruce showed up in less than an hour, calmed me down, did a complete assessment of my system, and got me up an running without losing all my work. But best of all, he diagnosed the problem (one too many thunderstorm power surges) and provided my with hardware to protect my computer from future power issues. Now, whenever I have a computer question, I ask Bruce first. Up and Running is where I tell all my friends to go for expert, personal, and professional service... when you need it most! read more

I have been using Bruce Maliken for many many years, like at least 20 if not longer. He is my go to guy when my computer is uncooperative. I wouldn't dream of using anyone else. He figures out the solutions to my problems 99% of the time. That means maybe once he didn't over the course of two decades. That's a pretty good rate in my book. I haven't had any problems for a couple of years but yesterday I caused my computer to crash. I don't think I ever had my computer actually crash before. Anyway I sent out an alert to Bruce, he responded right away, and came the next day, arriving on time. He explained the problem, gave me an idea of how long it would take to restore it, and proceeded to fix the problem in short order. I am very pleased and am "up and running!" read more

I rarely write reviews, but in this case, Bruce at UP and RUNNING Computer Services deserves it! I was hacked and someone sent out 100s of emails using on of my email address lists. Bruce was on it immediately late on a Sunday evening. We did a remote sessions where he checked for malware and quarantined suspicious files. By Monday morning, he diagnosed the situation, which as it turned out appeared to be an old hack that just came to light. Bruce also provided some hardware advice along the way. Couldn't ask for a more responsive, professional, and knowledgeable guy. Highly recommended! read more

I have used Bruce's services for a number of years. He responds to calls, texts and emails promptly. He sets up appointment times according to the severity of the computer problem and can fix to problems in person through remote access. His work is thorough and efficient. On occasions when I have done something dumb, he is patient and tries to assuage my feelings of guilt. He also makes suggestions on ways to avoid making the same mistakes twice. I have also consulted with him on products that would make our computer and files more secure. read more

I'm almost happy when I need computer support. I learn more from the coaching I receive from Bruce while he solves my problem than from any technical article I've ever read. He responds virtually immediately to my SOS, often fixing the glitch over the phone while declining any fee. He is warm, caring, uses words I can understand, has never made me feel stupid and his fee structure is reasonable and under market prices. His business card is the single most valuable tool I have in my computer tool kit. read more

I was traveling in DC. My system partition became corrupted and wouldn't boot (yay Microsoft). Bruce didn't know me and already had his day scheduled. He took the time to tell me where I could buy what I needed to get back up and running. He also warned me of some gotchas that would have taken me a long time to figure out. I was able to do what was needed and didn't have to cut vacation short. He knows his stuff and has integrity and is helpful. I highly recommend him and would definitely trust him with my business.
