BUYER BEWARE - WEBSITE HACKED?…read more I've ordered from Republica a bunch of times before with no issues and really enjoy their roasts but my last order was a mess. Paid through their website using PayPal and the money went to some random business name I've never heard of. A few days later they emailed me saying they never got the funds and basically told me to contact PayPal to try to get the money back. Their explanation was that it was a "PayPal technical issue" and that I should always double check the payee name before sending money. That doesn't sit right with me. If I'm checking out on your official website I shouldn't have to second guess whether the payment is actually going to you. Their site was either hacked, their PayPal setup was compromised, or they misconfigured it. How can I check out on YOUR website, have a receipt showing 4 lbs of roasted coffee, but the seller name on PayPal is some random name not associated to them? In addition to that, when they contacted me about my order they accidentally CC'd other people who were most likely affected by the same issue. Their official responses: "Unfortunately, due to a technical issue with PayPal's payment system, some payments were mistakenly authorized to an account not associated with us. In some cases, transactions have shown the recipient's name as "Toko Maria" or "Toko Putri." Please note that Republica Coffee never received these funds." "We wanted to clarify that due to a recent technical issue with PayPal, some payments were mistakenly authorized to accounts not associated with Republica Coffee. If your transaction shows any recipient other than Republica Coffee Roasters Inc., the payment did not reach us. As a result, your current order has been cancelled, and you can place a new order." Instead of owning it they downplayed it, canceled my order, and asked me to order again!? I'm still fighting with PayPal to dispute the original charge with no success yet. Buy at your own risk.

Their pastries are amazing, love their pistachio croissants with chocolate, and their pot pie, and Benny's. Great bagels and breakfasts also. In the afternoon it s a nice quiet place to work (free WiFi) or recharge over a quiet coffee and snack.

1 Star -- Discriminatory and Hostile Toward Disabled Patrons…read more My experience at Gratia Café was deeply upsetting and reflects a profound lack of understanding of -- or respect for -- disability rights. I am a disabled individual who relies on a legitimate, clearly identifiable service dog. Rather than being treated with basic courtesy and professionalism, I was subjected to hostile behavior, scrutiny, and exclusionary conduct that made it unmistakably clear I was not welcome. Staff acted as though they were entitled to question or challenge the presence of a service dog, despite the fact that this is explicitly prohibited under British Columbia human rights law. Let me be very clear: Businesses do not get to interrogate disabled patrons, demand explanations of medical need, or treat service dogs as optional accommodations. A service dog is not a pet, and access is not conditional on staff approval, comfort, or personal beliefs. What made this experience particularly distressing was the demeaning tone and dismissive attitude shown throughout the interaction. Instead of de-escalation or accommodation, the situation was handled in a way that felt humiliating, stigmatizing, and discriminatory. Disabled people should never be made to feel like a problem simply for existing in public spaces with the supports they require. Accessibility is not a "preference" or a branding choice -- it is a legal and ethical obligation. Until Gratia Café undertakes serious staff training on disability rights, service animals, and inclusive customer service, I cannot recommend this establishment to disabled patrons or allies. This experience was not just disappointing -- it was unacceptable.
