I've tried a lot of pastries, but this is officially my favorite croissant spot. George surprised…read moreme with breakfast in bed this morning from Momona and I'm always blown away. We had the Nutella and the Lilikoi, and they are absolute units--massive, beautiful and perfectly executed. The pastry is light and incredibly fluffy, but stays dense and decadent because they don't skimp on the filling (it's actually in the center, not just a garnish on top!). The Lilikoi was a total standout--bright, fresh, and perfectly tart. I found myself breaking off the flaky layers just to dip them into that golden center. If they sold it in jars, I'd be the first in line. If you're looking for the best bakery on the island, this is it! XOXO, ChelsieFletcher

I thought the shape of this croissant was funny and I did want to try something guava. I did find it to be dry and quite bready? I've never had the cube croissant before so perhaps this is just the style of them. I liked the guava filling but thought the cube croissant part was okay. It did seem like this one had more dough than filling. - Lilikoi Croissant (between $6 and $7) - I found that this croissant was not really flaky. There was a really good filling to croissant ratio in this one. However, I did appreciate the strength of the lilikoi flavor in this croissant, and the filling did taste fresh. - Macadamia Nut Latte ($6.85)- we both got ours iced, 12 ounce and with regular milk. We honestly enjoyed these lattes more than the croissants. The macadamia flavor came through quite strong (in a good way) and was pretty unique. There is a small parking lot and lots of seating inside. We saw a couple chickens wandering around outside when we grabbed our pastries.

You can tell they put real care into what they serve, and it shows in every sip. We ordered two lattes, one with brown sugar and one with vanilla, and both were amazing. The flavors were balanced, not overly sweet, and complemented the quality of the espresso perfectly. We also shared a cheese danish that my husband absolutely loved. He said it was one of the best he has ever had, and I have to agree -- buttery, flaky, and so fresh. The shop itself has such a fun, cozy vibe. There's even a swing inside, which adds such a unique and playful touch. It's the kind of place you actually want to hang out in, not just grab a coffee and go. Service was excellent. The barista was super friendly and even made the cutest latte art, which totally made my day. I ordered a 12 oz and loved that it came in a mug, while my husband got a 16 oz to-go. My only wish is that they would offer mugs for the larger sizes too. It would be a nice way to cut down on paper and plastic and make the experience even better. Overall, Akamai Coffee is a gem. Between the amazing drinks, delicious pastries, welcoming atmosphere, and thoughtful service, it's the kind of place you'll want to visit again and again. If you're in Maui, definitely make time to stop by. You won't regret it!

Don't forget they have a seasonal menu on their windows, separate from their regular menu. Staff are friendly and patient. I came twice during our visit because it was convenient especially with the baby in the car. They also have various sizes, not just one size which was nice to control the intake of caffeine for the day. I tried the Road to Hana which was good, on the sweeter side. Then, on the second visit, the server told me that I can get the hot chocolate seasonal flavor as a coffee and make it less sweet - i did that. Both very yummy drinks. On the sweeter side. I did not feel the caffeine as much as I did with Early Bird. I love that they offer drive-thru, though, which was super clutch and the reason for our multiple visits. I tried to go to their Kihei Plaza location, but couldn't figure out how to get to the drive-thru, haha! It's like through a parking lot but there are too many buildings around that I just didn't know where to enter.

Line control - thanked the customers a few times for waiting in an-honestly-not-so-long-line (maybe 6-7 mins wait at 9am) 3. Remembered some patrons by name or at least order 4. Free lollipop for my son and asked what he wanted drawn on his cup (it was a cool sun w/ sunglasses) I haven't even gotten to the drinks yet! 5. For no reason, other than the fact my son thanked him, comped my son's white cold chocolate milk (which was really tasty) 6. Banana macnut oat milk matcha, possibly one of the best drinks I've had from a coffee shop. Very good balance of all flavors overall 7. Lavender honey iced latte, also very tasty and balanced where you can taste the coffee instead of all the syrup. I peeked and noted they used Decent Espresso machines which showed me they knew their stuff. There's definitely a deficit for cafes that hit all these spots on the island and I'm not surprised that First Wave continues to sit at 5 stars. I'll definitely visit every time recommend this to everyone.

This coffee stand is located in the Lowe's parking lot and when I got there it had a line about 10 people deep. There isn't too much to say about the trailer itself other than it was grey with some wooden decorations wrapped around it, with the top part designed to look like waves. There were two guys working inside and they were cranking out coffees, but the line still moved slowly, taking about 25 minutes from getting in line to getting my drink. They also seemed to know at least half the people waiting and were super friendly with everyone else. For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a hot 20 oz Hapa, which was coconut and honey. My coffee here was good as I could taste the coconut first and then some sweetness from the honey. The coffee itself was definitely the star as it tasted freshly roasted and had a strong flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While no one wants to wait 25 minutes for a cup of coffee, the quality of the drink and the friendliness of the staff made it easy to see why this place is a local favorite.
