We came here on a weekday morning and there were clearly a lot of regulars. We ordered breakfast such as the Ube waffle and the everything bagel sandwich with ham, egg and cheese. We also ordered the special strawberry cheesecake latte. The latte was super sweet. The Ube waffle had a weird consistency too it -- very dry and could have been cooked more (not crispy). And the everything bagel was microwaved and a little hard to choose. We weren't very happy with the food we got here. But we did grab a bag of coffee. You order at the front and then they call your order when it's ready. There are no restrooms. Parking is at the front of the store. Overall, the food was just okay. read more

Perfect spot in town, near other local eateries and shops. I tried the mocha cookie crumble because I saw someone before me order it. Lol I definitely wanna try their matcha the next time. Mask are required when you get there and if not you are not allowed at the window counter to place your order. Parking is along side of the roadway and normally it is not that busy except on weekends. When trying to look for a cup of Joe on a remote island like Lanai...........don't bother to look for a Starbucks, Seattle's Best, Philz, Lion Coffee, McDonald's Mac-Cafe, or whatever coffee that maybe. Finding a coffee shop in Lanai City is a God send, and that's where I ran into this cute little coffee shop called - "Coffee Works". When going to Lanai, sad to say that there ain't too many food or drink places in this small little town. I needed a little afternoon "pick me up" and that's how I ended up here at the Coffee Works for a strong cup of Joe. Upon entering this cute little coffee shop, I noticed this coffee shop also served some baked goods like cookies, donuts & muffins, food items like chili hot dog rice bowl, bagels, acai bowls, ice cream, smoothies, teas, as well as coffee drinks. There is no inside seating at this coffee shop, as the coffee shop is rather small. Worried about seating? No need to fret gang, as they do have a very large partially covered deck, where you can sit & enjoy your cup of Joe. After looking over the wall menu, I asked the clerk for a dark coffee, and she suggested a Americano. Cool, so that's what I ended up getting............ a Medium Americano. While the girl was making my Americano, I also looked at some baked items & asked the girl if the baked items were locally made here, she said "no". After looking closer at the baked items like the muffin, it kinda reminded me of the Costco muffins, so I decided to pass on the baked goods, and stuck with just the coffee. What can I say about the coffee? The coffee was very good! My cup of Joe had a nice rich & bold flavor, just the perfect drink to pick you up after a early morning start! So glad I found this little coffee shop, should I ever have to be back in Lanai City for work, I'm sure I'll stop by again for another cup of Joe! read more

I was vacationing on the island. I was told this place had wonderful coffee and food. Other food is packaged and reheated nothing is prepared fresh. The coffee was fine but not exceptional. Starbucks is better. I had a coffee maker in my room so I bought coffee when I open the bag. It was white with mold and old. When I tried to get my money back, I was met with a person who was determined not to refund my money. It is a really cute place. Too bad about the rest. read more

Super kind customer service and EXCELLENT drinks. The spiced chai was the perfect mix of sweet and spice, and the cold brew was strong but not too bitter. Highly recommend the Hapa Americano if you're a coconut water fan! Last but not least, the espresso shakes are heavenly! If you're looking for a cool sweet dessert with a kick, that's the way to go. The service was fine/friendly but the price was kind of up there.. paid about 16 for two drinks.. an espresso shake and iced mocha.. the espresso shake was good and the iced mocha I wasn't a big fan of. Tiny coffee shop just off the square. It was perfect weather for a hot latte when I popped by, and the coffee didn't disappoint! Strong espresso flavor as opposed to the super milky lattes you'll sometimes find. Also ordered the breakfast bagel sandwich which nearly hit the spot, but it was microwaved rather than toasted leaving it a bit soft rather than crunchy. Coffee Works is a funky little coffee shop in a small town (thankfully) devoid of any "chain" shops. Located about a block outside of the main town square, it's tucked in amidst some really old houses leftover from the plantation days. I spoke to the owner and apparently the shop is a converted old house, and it has a rustic charm that you won't find in your typical strip mall Starbucks. Of course, all the charm in the world would mean nothing if the coffee wasn't good. Fortunately for Coffee Works, the coffee is great! Hot and fresh. According to my brother-in-law, the iced coffee there is addictive too. My kids had hot chocolates, and unlike most places, they weren't scalding hot (nice that they didn't have to wait for 20 minutes before drinking it!!). We noticed that all of the customers walking in were locals. It's a shame that there weren't more tourists there as well, probably because they spend more of their time at one of the two big resorts. But for the true feeling of Lanai, I don't think anything can beat sitting at one of the outdoor tables, sipping hot coffee with a croissant and feeling the cool crisp air. read more

Here's the thing, there are very few places to get something to eat or drink in the only town on Lanai. One day I was craving a sweet blended drink of some sort and I usually go for some kind of blended coffee drink. Seeing as Coffee Works was the only place in town to get something like that, my boyfriend and I headed over to grab some. The first time we came, we ordered an Espresso Shake and an Iced Mocha. I was under the impression that the Iced Mocha was actually blended but it wasn't. On top of that, it was so bitter and had no trace of a mocha flavor whatsoever. I actually hoped that I would like the Iced Mocha more than the Espresso Shake because I typically steer clear from shakes as they're too sweet for me but the Espresso Shake was actually so much tastier and flavorful than the Iced Mocha. I could taste the espresso while the "shake" aspect of it wasn't overwhelming at all. I wanted to go back in and ask them to drizzle some chocolate or something into the Iced Mocha because it was truly missing something that made it taste like mocha and less like a basic iced coffee. Perhaps the person making our drink forgot to add the "mocha" aspect? The second time we came we ordered two Espresso Shakes (I was really craving something sweet and totally unhealthy) and it wasn't until AFTER I had received my drinks that I noticed their "Blended Rush" menu that was situated on the side and NOT somewhere clear and obvious like near their main menus. I also noticed that the second time we came, we were asked what size we wanted and I was unaware of size options the first time we ordered so there was a bit of inconsistent service in that regard. So, the third time we came back, we ordered a Java Chip Blended Rush in the largest size which was 20 something oz I think. Now THAT was so good and I thoroughly enjoyed the tiny bits (chocolate chips?) throughout the drink. I preferred the Java Chip as it didn't feel as heavy as the Espresso Shake (I mean duh, it's a "shake") and gave me those good 'ol Starbucks feelings I was craving. They have some seating outside on the patio as you make your way inside to order and, on a nice day, it feels so nice to bask in the sun as you drink your pricey drink and breathe the fresh air. My biggest gripe here is the price. While I understand that everything on this island is much more pricey than pretty much everywhere else, I did feel that ~$8+ on a blended drink was insane, especially since they did not offer anything particularly unique. My boyfriend and I ended up paying almost $20 for two drinks when we would go. Still, if you're looking for a coffee fix that offers your typical drinks (i.e. espresso, americano, etc.) AND more, Coffee Works is really your option in town. If it wasn't for the price, I would have come every morning I was there. read more

I'm not even a big coffee drinker and I must say, I really enjoyed my multiple trips to Coffee Works while staying on Lanai. The service was always friendly, competent and quick! I truly felt welcomed there. The coffee was tasty. One morning I had an iced Mocha and it was delicious. Another day I went back for ice cream and it was tasty too. Since I was in Hawaii, I opted for a scoop of locally (in Hawaii, not on Lanai) made Kona Coffee and a scoop of my standbye Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. The ice cream was a better value than the ice cream at the Ice Cream and Candy Shop but equally delicious. Since my hotel didn't have internet, I used their internet station there to check in for my flights home. I was glad to see that the computer was in working order and easy to use. I think I paid $5 for 20 or 25 minutes of surfing so that seemed reasonable enough. The friendly staff, shop architecture, cute Coffee Works sign, and care-free locals on the deck simply say Aloha! read more

My family went to Lanai on a vacation and to visit family. While there I visited Coffee Works several times for both coffee and breakfast. My kids loved the French toast and the waffle. For the only place for specialty coffee I could find in Lanai City besides resorts, it was pretty good. Yes a little more pricey than Starbucks on Maui or Oahu, but come on people you are on lanai everything is more pricey. That being said, it's been awhile since I had good iced Thai coffee, and here had one today. I've been at Starbucks and they screw it up. Either too sweet or not enough condensed milk. This is a cute small town cafe an easy walk from the park in the center of Lanai City. Worth a visit for sure!

First of all, no one smiles here. I ordered a coffee and lox and bagel. There was 1 very thin slice of lox, lots of onions and lettuce and some capers. The everything bagel was tasteless and not toasted as I requested. This was a take out. If I had ate it there I would have taken it back. Then to make things worst , my coffee was only about 3/4 filled. I will never go back there again. Not just the food was bad but the service was just as poor. Nice little coffee shop to get your daily caffeine fix. Small but true selection. I personally like my coffee (iced or hot) sans and sweetener. Coffee Works has just the right punch of bitterness! I dunno why , but the service people weren't friendly at all, lot of stink eye for a man passing through just getting some tea. So I'll unload my grievance on YELP, and move on. Also, no public restrooms, at a place where you sit down and drink caffeinated beverages? Aw who cares, we're only customers, better not make that toilet available to us, only for you and your employees. And if a customer asks about a restroom, give him a look like he's being unreasonable, don't forget the awkward pause for added effect. The coffee and smoothies are really good. Only problem is the pricing. A blended vanilla rush is close to $10 for a 24 oz. (compared to a $5 frappuccino from Starbucks) and smoothies are nearly $9. Pretty ridiculous. But being the only coffee shop on the island, it's a must to check out if you're visiting. Staff is pretty friendly except for one female working there.
