We stopped by Richard's to grab a caffeinated beverage before starting our day exploring the island. I was impressed by this quaint little store that offered everything you need and a little more! Stopped by Richard's Market during a quick visit to Lana'i. There's not too many options on the island and this is probably the biggest (only?) grocery store/market there. They've been in operation since 1946 and are located on Dole Square where many of the island's businesses are concentrated. They offer a variety of fresh produce, meat, seafood, and pantry items. They also have a selection of prepared foods, gourmet wine, a poke counter and sundries. I came for the snacks (of course) and settled on their spam musubi. I don't know what they put in their musubi, but that thing was DELICIOUS! The rice is seasoned along with the spam and both together are a homerun. My only regret was only getting one :( All in all, this is a good place to stop and stock up on snacks, drinks, and other items. read more

This place has my favorite poké across the islands bar none - I always get their spicy ahi poké bowls whenever I visit. The store is the perfect size and they have plenty of things to get whether you're a local or visitor to Lāna'i. Main Grocery Store in Lana'i We stopped by to grab some snacks at Richard's. Upon entry is where you will find the produce section, warm food, frozen food section and an impressive selection of fresh seafood at the poke station. Another section of the market are 5 or 6 aisles (I can't remember) of dried and canned good items. It wasn't as little as I thought. It was a good size grocery store inside that's fitting for the locals. Here I found the smallest spam musubi I've ever seen. A 1" square mini spam musubi wrapped individually and sold for $0.50/ea. LoL! It had no taste (to me) but thought they were cute! I grabbed a bag of Maui Onion potato chips (my favorite island chips) and hubby got a bag of pork rinds (chicharon). Located on Lanai they carry a lot of items some of the items are purchased from Costco and broken down to individual items. If you are looking for fresh meats and seafood they have a counter which you can order from. They also have pre wrapped meats, frozen seafood and a fresh produce department, they have desserts, bread, can goods and liquor. They carry more variety here if you are looking for a specific item you would have a better chance starting here. Parking across at Dole Park and some along the front of the store. I was on Lanai two weeks ago, and Bruddah Fran will have to update his review of this place called - Richards Market in Lanai City and show Richard Market some ALOHA. I've stopped by Richards Market a few times, mainly to pick up something to drink...........but my most recent visit I had to buy a can of WD40 as I was doing something at the Bank of Hawaii, and lucky for me this little supermarket was just next door to the bank, which made it very convenient for me. After I finished work, I made it appoint to go back to Richards Market to give their poke bowl a try, and I must tell you folks that Richards Market did not disappoint! The poke selection here is not extensive like what you would see at Foodland or Tamura's, but for what little selection they did have, the poke was fresh, and broke da moufth ono! When I walked to the back of the store to the seafood section, I was greeted by a clerk who built my poke bowl. Richards Market offered (3), or should I saw it da local way..........."dey' wen' offer tree size poke bowls". I wasn't sure about the poke bowl portions, so I asked the clerk if he could show me the container sizes, and upon sizing up the portions, I ended up getting a medium sized poke bowl with Spicy Furikake Poke, & Spicy Taco Poke with Brown Rice. The fish & taco were all so fresh, and marinaded perfectly. They did not charge extra for the Brown Rice (which was a nice thing), and the thing that seal da deal............da poke bowl was just ($9.49)! Can we say DEALAGES Yo!!!! If you folks ever find yourself on Lanai..........no shame now, stop by Richards Market for some onolicious poke bowls! Garans no can go wrong!!! read more

A great find on the small Island of Lanai, we got a few pounds of poke for $20-25 to eat for lunch and it was truly amazing. They also have a lot of baked goods to choose from and taro/ube products. I found that things were pricier here compared to Maui, but it's understandable because everything has to be shipped over. read more

Great customer service and friendly workers. Stopped in to Richard's for everything from groceries to fresh poke. We ordered a bunch of poke, fresh roast chicken, and rice and ate family style. Richards Market was such a surprise! From the outside it looked like a mom and pops store but when you walk in you get the feel like you're a local but the quality and selection if foods was amazing! Great, clean place. One of two grocery stores on the island. Good selection of fresh produce, prepared foods (different specials each day, including rotisserie items), bakery offerings, meat, poke, and everything else you need. It's a compact but full-service grocery store. There were even plants and gardening supplies. The store is accessible, with ramps where needed inside and out. There are tables with umbrellas outside and benches where you can enjoy your goodies. I checked prices on a variety of items to see how they compared to Honolulu. (Keep in mind that prices in Hawaii are going to be higher than on the continental United States - you might have sticker shock). I was pleasantly surprised to find prices were comparable to Oahu. These are regular prices; I'm not sure how sale prices might compare. read more

This place runs on island time, much like the rest of Lanai. It's a good choice, as it seems to be the fancier grocery store out of the two on the small island. They had a huge wall of wine and other alcoholic drinks and the place was arranged in such a way to make use of a lot of space. The deli section and sandwich shop will not be up and running in the morning, but I believe that's more of an island time norm, than a failing of the store, although it will be open. They had a lot more food from the mainland, along with options from Japan. With the better choices in food and the friendly customer service, I would probably use this as my go to store if I was a local. I think the other grocery store is mainly a local haunt, but I think the prices and quality are competitive enough for anyone to use in the area- both tourist and local alike. read more

This is one of two grocery stores I was able to find in Lanai City. It's just down the block from the other one, but is much more modern and upscale compared to it's older and slightly falling apart counterpart. They have a nice little deli selection if you're looking for something fresh. The place is deceptively large, spanning about the size of a CVS or Walgreens in a larger city. It's not as big as the grocery stores, or even some ABC stores, on the other islands, but it has pretty much everything I could conceive of needing. My wife and I swung by here to check it out while we were in Lanai. We didn't end up buying anything, but it was nice to see such a modern place among some of the more old-timey locations in Lanai. read more

I was surprised to see the variety of options at Richards Market, from groceries to deli food. They have various kinds of poke, and even though I didn't get to try them all, the two types of tuna poke I got were descent. Food options are limited in Lanai City, so I am glad there is this nice store to pick up fruits, drinks, and food! read more

I think this is one of two grocery stores on Lana'i! You can't miss it, everything is next to each other in the "city". Very cute and well kept on the outside and inside. I was actually surprised to see how many products they carried! Huge selection of wine and snacks, which are the most important things, duh. Everything you need for your stay in Lana'i. Picked up some chocolate chip mochi from the little baked good area and it was delicious! Got a poké bowl from here and it was probably some of the best poké I've ever had. The poké bowl says that it comes with 1/3 pound of poké, but I feel like my bowl was packed! So worth the $7.99. I did stop by the other market before going to Richard's and this one definitely had a bigger and better selection. This is the place to go for all your goodies while staying on Lana'i. read more

My first trip to the Pineapple island and it was so awesome! It was lunchtime and we needed a fast lunch as we had a lot of exploring to do! We stopped here to load up. This is a great little place to grab food, drinks, fresh poké, produce and snacks while in Lana'i City. There's lots of parking, lots of selection in the store and very friendly staff. We grabbed our goodies and headed out to the front where there is a picnic table + shade waiting to be utilized. So perfect! The poké was so fresh & delicious --- and I'm not even the worlds biggest poké fan. Yum! Shopping, walking and sight-seeing are all right there on the street. The Lanai city's oldest retail grocery & general merchandise store. Close early on weekend. We got Minehune water from the store almost everyday. Small store but large selection.
