Despite being an unpublished novelist, I am writing my first review after 18 years of yelp reading in honor of the porkie sandwich. So I can say what I say to everyone who goes to the south side of this island- "Go to 808 Deli." I admit I don't go south side often. It's a bit of a drive. I stopped by here yesterday with my father for lunch. We were looking on Yelp for a quick and cheaper place close to our condo when 808 Deli popped up, so we headed right over. This deli is located in a strip mall and is bigger inside than it looks from the outside. On one side they have the ordering area with a beverage cooler, a display case, and hats for sale with their logo. The other side has seating and can probably fit around 30 to 40 people. For lunch on this day I went with the chicken pesto panini while my father went with a hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut. The menu described my sandwich as chicken breast, sun dried tomato, toasted pine nuts, provolone, and pesto spread, and my father's simply as sauerkraut and mustard. It was busy when we were there, so it took about 10 minutes to order and another 15 minutes for the food to come out. Since we ordered separately, my food came out first and even though I planned to wait, I had enough time to eat it while waiting for my dad's. The chicken pesto panini ended up being quite good. The chicken was moist and flavorful and there was more than enough cheese. The sun dried tomatoes added a nice pop of flavor, although I wish there had been more. My favorite part was the pesto spread and pine nuts, especially the garlicky flavor from the pesto. My dad also thought his hot dog was good. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed my sandwich and my dad enjoyed his hot dog, so I would be interested in trying more of the menu. read more

Walked into the deli with 15 minutes before they closed for the day, Rachel was very helpful and accommodating. Tried a few sandwiches from 808 Deli and overall it was a mixed bag--solid, but not quite hitting the hype from social media this time around. The Turkey Ruben Panini had a nice balance with the sauerkraut and 1000 island, but the flavors didn't pop as much as expected. The Spicy Chicken Panini sounded like it would bring heat, but leaned more mild than spicy--still good, just missing that kick. The Roast Beast Panini was probably the most flavorful of the bunch with the horseradish and jalapeños, but felt a bit heavy. The classic Turkey Sandwich with cranberry aioli was fresh and easy to eat, though pretty straightforward and not super memorable. We came to 808 deli twice during our recent stay. Love all of the various options they have. We stopped in one day to order breakfast and one day for lunch. The employee was so kind and helpful. We took our food to go, but the shop is so bright and beautiful. Sandwiches were a generous portion (enough to share if you are not super hungry). The porky was so fun and tasty. It is some Kine Grinds Fo Sure! 2 Shakas for this Potato Mac, we went back 2Xs for refills. It is also super reasonable, I think $8 for a larger container. Added bonus is their homemade puddings. When I visiting Maui, I saw this place pop up as a recommendation multiple times so I knew I had to try when I was living just a few minutes drive away. We actually got the sandwiches in preparation for our Road to Hana trip the next day and I can say 808 Deli is 100% worth visiting. We had a few bites after getting it to see how it would taste freshly made and it was still equally as good the next day after a few minutes in the oven. We got the "Porkie" panini and the shiitake beef melt specialty sandwich. Both were amazing but I have to give it to the porkie. It contains hawaiian pork, mango salsa, and pepper jack on rye bread, with a sweet chili dipping sauce on the side. Everything on the porkie worked so well together and I still dream about that dipping sauce. read more

We're staying at a resort just around the corner from 808 Deli, and after a couple of busy days, we were tired and slept in. We wanted something simple and tasty for breakfast, so we decided to try this spot since it has great reviews and we're so glad we did! When we walked in, we were greeted warmly. We mentioned it was our first time, and the lady behind the counter was super nice. She explained the menu and was incredibly patient with us because we kept going back and forth trying to decide what to get sandwiches, pasta salads, hot dogs... everything looked good! I was craving a salad, but I also wanted a sandwich and couldn't make up my mind. In the end, I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on multigrain bread, and wow absolutely refreshing and delicious. Could not believe the size of the picture of the Porkie with a ton of pork on a footlong surfboard piece of bread. This place replaces Southshore Grindz, with the same furniture and pictures on the wall. There's a 808 sugar which sells frozen refreshments in the old location next to Fred's Mexican restaurant on the next block. Got a $14 porkie and $13.50 reuben panini. Takes a good 15 minutes to prepare it. Comes on toasted rye bread, which doesn't travel well. Got to eat it right at the counter for it to taste just cooked fresh. At most half an inch of shredded pork on two pieces of toasted rye bread, maybe 5" by 5". To make things worse, one of the pieces of bread was the crust on the end of the loaf. Could not taste the mango salsa, nor the pepper jack, maybe they ran out by late Sunday afternoon, or they skimped on this badly. Tasted like a very ordinary pork sandwich, medium serving size at an exorbitant price. Kudos for the sweet chili dipping sauce, which had the aroma of a very expensive 1000 island dressing. It is very filling, so much so that I could only eat one sandwich, and didn't get to the reuben, which has a quarter inch layer of beef, and a similar layer of sauerkraut. Those $9 porkies on the yelp site are ancient history long before the 2022 inflation days. Wish there was a little bit more salt, but putting potato chips inside helped with that. Bf got the belly dancer sandwich and said it was delectable. No notes! This shop does work on a counter service type of spot but the employee at the front was really nice and welcoming. [Out-of-Towner Review] Same, but better! We were craving sandwiches and used Yelp to find one in or near Kihei. I saw the name of the restaurant and thought it seemed really familiar. When we arrived and I saw the sandwich board menu, I realized it was the same place we visited last trip, but it just has a new home/digs! I think the best part is that there is now seating to enjoy your meal. Their last spot was a grab-n-go style. I was feeling a wrap, so I ordered the Chicken Cesar salad wrap with the dressing on the side. I love that their Cesar is homemade! The wrap was great and refreshing. I also snagged a bag of Maui Onion chips and a Pepsi, my favorite accoutrement for a deli! The rest of the fam ordered sandwiches and hot dogs, all thoroughly enjoyed! This is a no frills experience. They rest their laurels on their food. You order at the counter and grab your chips and bottled/canned soda and then order your sandwich/hot dog/food. The seating is simple.
