Here's your updated 5-star review: Vida is such a gem in Makawao! The street-front parking is a huge bonus, and having restrooms available makes it an easy, comfortable stop. The lox bagel was absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and those pickled onions took it to the next level. Truly top notch. The coffee was just as impressive. I tried the Thai Coffee and it was perfectly balanced, rich, and smooth. The seating areas feel intimate and cozy, whether you choose indoor or outdoor. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed morning, catching up with a friend, or even a first date. And as a real dog lover, the resident coffee shop retriever dogs made it even more inviting and special. We always stop here when in Makawao as the coffee is the best on the island. Unfortunately they didn't have the beetroot latte today, but the decaf latte they made was Ah-mazing, strong, creamy foam and a great taste with no bitterness. You can tell they prep their own coffee beans. The lilikoi pop tart was good, tart and tasty and not overly sweet. The blueberry muffin good too. However the artichoke pastry was dry and unseasoned and I had to leave half of it as it just wasn't worth eating. First time this has happened here as we usually love their food and coffee. It won't put us off coming here again though, the coffee is too good not to! I might just be more careful with my food choice next time. read more

I got the ginger mule refresher. It has ginger, pear, tea, and topped with edible glitter! Such a fun and refreshing drink. Vida is a very cute, tucked away cafe up in makawao town. Love the atmosphere of this place! The barista was very nice as well! read more

Atmosphere and location an easy 10/10. Several seating choices with totally different vibes. You could bring a laptop and be left in peace upstairs or even bring a typewriter and make a ruckus without bothering anyone closer to the street. No matter where you sit, it is beautiful. The pastry treats were delicious. We had the apple pull aparts and the almond croissants. Just the right amount of sweet. Service was fast and our drinks were good too. We wish we didn't have other things we wanted to do today so we could have hung out longer. read more

Hidden little coffe spot. There are tables inside and outside. There are some yummy looking pastries (we did not have any but they looked good). The gals working were not friendly, but also not rude. The coffee was made quickly. Not much of a flavor. Coffee was not very strong (almost like they forgot to put the shot of espresso in). The largest they have is a 16oz. I drank about half and tossed the rest. There are a lot of great reviews so maybe it was an "off day". Wont be back but worth trying. read more

Cute place with nice ambiance. It was raining and we wanted some drinks so we sat inside. Coffee and the wellness drinks were alright, not bad, not the best. Two stars moreso for the service. The locals that came and went seemed to get nice warm greetings and a friendly, "Thanks for stopping in", when leaving. That friendliness was not extended to us--we might as well have not even existed. Every other person, inside and outside, were offered a free sample tasting of some new drink...except for us. Had to be the most low effort service we've experienced. Try extending that warmness to everyone and the place would be a nice stop. I wouldn't go back because of the off putting attitude of the servers, though. read more

Charming little spot in Makawao! Had the ceremonial hot matcha and it was custom made by the lovely barista's we added there turmeric and macnut milk it was smooth, flavorful, and just what I needed. The lemon lavender scone was a lovely surprise--light, not too sweet, and paired perfectly with the matcha. Cozy vibe, cute cafe, and a great treat stop when you're upcountry. So good my family and I came back twice! The outside seating is very nice and offers plenty of shade. The workers are both friendly and helpful. And the drinks themselves are very well-made. Everything my family sipped was good, but I honestly cannot recommend the lavender latte enough. It was simply delicious. The flavors were balanced and perfectly complimented one another to make a near-perfect drinking experience. The baked goods were also great (the banana bread being my favorite). We had just finished a heavy lunch in Kula and were on our way to hike Twin Falls Trail. We were feeling the food coma kick in, so we left it up to Yelp to find us a coffee place for a boost of caffeine! We ended up in a quaint country town of Makawao. Honestly this place wasn't on our itinerary, but I wish I could have spent more time here...so many shops and local businesses to check out! We parked along the side of the road and walked a short distance to Vida. What an adorable picturesque little coffee shop! The interior was open and airy. Great friendly service from the young ladies who greeted us with friendly smiles as well. Order up: Iced Neopolitan Cold Brew (had fresh strawberry bits in it...yummy!). We went on a Sunday morning after realizing Espresso Mafia is closed on Sunday. The chai tea latte had no spice, sweetness or flavor. Had I not ordered with a shot of espresso, it would have been warm milk. I wish that I would have tasted prior to leaving but it was too hot and was taking it home to enjoy. Otherwise, I would have mentioned to the staff. Lesson learned. Stop ordering chai from this place. It's isn't good. The two staff were busy, not rude but not overly friendly. read more

IMHO This is a hidden gem behind Sherri Reeve Gallery. Never knew it existed before until my daughters found it. Their father wasn't feeling well, a little under-the-weather, and the nice lady behind the counter suggested a "grab & go" cold pressed health shot for him. This is a bright and colorful establishment that also serves pastries! It is a very welcoming environment, and the service helpful and friendly! Caffeine-free options!!!! That are good!!! We were immediately drawn in by the tropical decor & fun drink menu. Vida is beyond the main street, in an alley between Tiger Eye Salon & Collections. Quick service. We stopped in on a weekday afternoon and experienced little to no wait, though the cafe was nearly full. Their menu definitely appeals to the hippy crowd, seeing that many items include herbs or superfoods, or have vegan/gluten-free options. ROSE LATTE: Real rose petals in every sip, for better or for worse. Their blend is heavily aromatic-- tastes like actual rose, not at all like floral syrup. Located down a short alleyway across from Komoda Bakery, this small coffee shop is typical of Makawao shopping in that it is pretty pricey. What isn't usual is the friendly service and healthier pastry choices. They have gluten free and vegan donuts, muffins and breads. Their drink menu is extensive and really yummy. We chose the lavender and chai lattes, great, and the deep rose lemonade, too flowery tasting. We also had the chocolate gluten free and vegan donuts, tasty but a bit dry, and the pumpkin coffee cake which was okay. I am definitely looking forward to when they get the baked goods from their usual bakery back. read more

Nice cozy spot with friendly staff and great coffee! It's tucked away from the main street and if I lived here...I'd be a regular. Ordered an iced latte with cinnamon and Mt wife had the turmeric Chai latte with almond. Both made perfectly and can't find a thing to complain about. They have an upstairs seating area as well and it's not connected to their building. They do provide wifi so that's a huge plus. We were in Maui on a cruise, rented a car, and decided to just drive. They also sell local pastries and have indoor or outdoor seating. Service was friendly and helpful when ordering. There is a huge parking lot just behind it with a walk up some stairs to access the shop. Restrooms are also nearby. For sure a must stop when visiting the town of Makawao. read more

You can get any type of coffee you like here, I had a turmeric latte with oat milk, hubby had a standard latte and both were very good. Lots of nice pastries and interesting seating areas as well. The gluten free pumpkin coffee cake was excellent. The line at 10:30 on a Saturday was long and it took 20 minutes between standing in line and waiting for our order, so don't be in a hurry. read more

Luckily stumbled our way in after stopping by Komodos across the street. They just reopened in this new spot Nov 3rd. Immediately we were greeted with smiles which matched their bright and cheerful decor. They've got some unique drinks on the menu including non caffeinated latte such as lavender and beet root (?!). I played it safe and went for mocha cold brew--delicious! Plenty of chocolate flavor and not overly sweet. There is plenty of shaded seating outside to read or chat with friends. We were strolling this little town, before an appointment when we stopped in for coffee and tea. I stepped up to the counter and ordered the organic chai tea latte and a French Press. We grabbed a seat and waited. Pastries looked good, but we had just had breakfast. My chai tea latte was prepared quickly and very good. However, the french press took much longer than expected. I ordered an 8oz latte, the cashier corrected me and placed an order for a flat white (I know everyone's got there own language for coffees, so I won't get into objective definitions here, and I just let it go there....) foam wasn't fine and not creamy, big bubbles and tasted oaty (I ordered whole milk and was reassured it was) customer service on my particular morning from the cashier wasn't pleasant, barista was nice though. I recommend Espresso Mafia for coffee in makawao for sure. Nearby but a little further the best coffee you can get is at Marlow in Kulamalu. Vida does have cool outdoor seating in a cute alley though, so if you're looking to sit and chat and enjoy a space it's a great spot, especially if your not too picky about traditional coffee drinks ;) I'm sure they're specialty drinks a great. read more
