We were vacationing in Kikei for a week and we started every morning here. The espresso is excellent and strong. The passion fruit pastry was divine. We sat and relaxed as we planned our day. We walked over as the cafe was close to our hotel; however, I noticed parking spots right out front. Lava Java is the neatest cafe I've visited on-island. Quirky, fun and cool! Love the tshirts designed by one of the baristas, who is not only talented but genuine and kind as well! Please tip your baristas! I liked the strong espresso taste of my 20 oz iced Mac latte (4 shots in a 20 oz). Though, I'd argue my boyfriend's dirty chai was superior to my order. I was there asking some questions at around 8 and there were't a lot of people, and then I came back close to 8:30, there were a really long line of people. Recommend to go early to avoid the crowd! I really did not like the coconut mac iced latte that I got, it was EXTREMELY sweet. I honestly couldn't even taste the coffee, it just tasted like straight up syrup. Based on other reviews, I believe they probably have good coffee and my experience was just a one off. The coffee beans are super fragrant and I am sure it tastes good when made properly, but unfortunately I wouldn't know. read more

Finding afternoon coffee in Kihei was tricky, thankfully Lava Java was still open and serving coffee around 3:30. The barista was super friendly and she was nice to chat with while making coffee drinks. The shop is really cool, lots of vintage coffee makers and grinders. I really love how they donate sales of their mochas to the humane society, just a really nice feel good shop. Coffee was really tasty, I had espresso over ice and it was smooth and not bitter. My family enjoyed their afternoon coffees too. If you want a coffee after 2pm, this is a great friendly shop with good coffee. read more

Great little local coffee shop right on South Kihei Road. They open from 7a go 7p, which is nice and early for this vacation morning riser! They have all the classic espresso drinks and drip coffee and some blended drinks, too. They even have decaf espresso, which I appreciate since I am trying to watch my caffeine intake. I ordered a medium iced americano half caff with sugar-free vanilla syrup and creamer. It hits the spot. There's some guitars to play if you feel so inclined, and one day there was even a couple dogs hanging out inside. And the coffee is absolutely delicious. Far and away the cutest and best (in many ways) coffee in Kihei! Love the ambiance of the shop - super cute trinkets around the store, including a signed picture from the animator of Spongebob!
