Stopped in for a quick coffee. The reviews didn't disappoint. Our drink was delicious! This was a really cute little coffee shop with lots to look at while you wait for your drink. There is indoor and outdoor seating! Service was good- the barista was nice and very fast!

The best customer service and delicious coffee! My boyfriend and I enjoyed our visit to Lava Java in Kihei. We walked over as the cafe was close to our hotel; however, I noticed parking spots right out front. Lava Java is the neatest cafe I've visited on-island. Quirky, fun and cool! Love the tshirts designed by one of the baristas, who is not only talented but genuine and kind as well! Please tip your baristas! I liked the strong espresso taste of my 20 oz iced Mac latte (4 shots in a 20 oz). Though, I'd argue my boyfriend's dirty chai was superior to my order. We also bought two tshirts, made of the comfiest tshirt material! Highly recommend Lava Java for your caffeine needs! They have coffee and Red Bull concoctions as well!

Was there just for the 100% maui coffee beans. I didn't catch the barista name but he's super nice. I was there asking some questions at around 8 and there were't a lot of people, and then I came back close to 8:30, there were a really long line of people. Recommend to go early to avoid the crowd! I got coffee from some place else, but would totally come back for coffee if I can!

best iced coffee i've had in hawaii! the flavor was immaculate, and not watery at all. the staff is super friendly and welcoming here. pog slushies were decent too, and great for those who don't want coffee! only downside is we noticed that it would open later than listed hours multiple times. other than that, this spot is AMAZING!

Lava Java is a cute coffee shot in Kihei. The barista was so friendly, kind and made an amazing first chai latte! There are even little souvenirs to buy that are made locally. Although I didn't purchase one, I learned from a local that the pastries here are amazing!

Love local coffee, and this place is local. Cool, funky vibe inside. They offer more than just coffee. There was only one person working the whole place at 7am! Lines and wait was long, but wanted to shop local. Hope they're hiring more help.

If you're in Maui, this coffee spot is a must stop. Every morning we were there, we would wake up for our morning walk & go grab ourselves a coffee. They have so many yummy options we switched it up mostly every day. The staff is just so friendly and welcoming. They have a cool little shop, it feels super local and chill. It was definitely a great start to our morning.

We were in Maui Monday-Saturday and came to Lava Java 4 of those days! If our flight wasn't so early on Saturday I definitely would've gone one more time. Loved the atmosphere and the baristas were all so friendly. The ham & cheese was good and for the drinks we loved the caramel & macnut breve & coconut macnut latte. Been craving both ever since we came back home.

I was already doing the math and thinking , "Eh, we might be here awhile." But nah, good timing. People were finishing up, bussing tables, and bam, maybe 20-30 minutes tops. Not bad at all. While we was waiting, they come out with waffle samples for everyone in line. I mean... who does that? That's how you keep people from getting all hangry. Instant good vibes, the whole line outside was just smiling and waiting patiently. Finally get seated and both the hostess and waitress were super nice--real friendly, no rush, no attitude. In the front they had mushroom soup on the specials board, so we figured we go sample um. I had them bring a cup of soup out to start along with my wife's coffee. Gotta be honest--when I dipped my spoon in, I was already judging. Looked kinda thin, not creamy like other mushroom soups I've had. I was thinking, "Ahh here we go." Took one spoonful and immediately had to humble myself. That soup was money. Like, stop-talking-and-just-eat. My wife tried it and confirmed that this soup was "winnahs" . Deep mushroom flavor with the right amount of seasoning. It also came with a little piece of focaccia toast which I would have really enjoyed but had to take my wife's word for it since she ate um all . Should've ordered the bowl. Rookie mistake. For my main, I went with the original eggs Benedict. Portions were a little on the small side, but with the roasted potatoes, I was good. Didn't leave hungry, didn't need to loosen the belt--perfect middle ground. My wife got the strawberry waffles and yeah... those were legit. She's not a syrup person, so she asked for more whipped cream. The waitress comes back with a little mountain of whipped cream in the little silver ramekin. All in all, solid spot. Friendly people, ono food, and little touches that make you feel taken care of. We will be heading to Cafe Kaila again to try some other stuff like the "chicken and waffles", and next time, I'm not playing around with the soup. Bowl, Garans.

You can tell they put real care into what they serve, and it shows in every sip. We ordered two lattes, one with brown sugar and one with vanilla, and both were amazing. The flavors were balanced, not overly sweet, and complemented the quality of the espresso perfectly. We also shared a cheese danish that my husband absolutely loved. He said it was one of the best he has ever had, and I have to agree -- buttery, flaky, and so fresh. The shop itself has such a fun, cozy vibe. There's even a swing inside, which adds such a unique and playful touch. It's the kind of place you actually want to hang out in, not just grab a coffee and go. Service was excellent. The barista was super friendly and even made the cutest latte art, which totally made my day. I ordered a 12 oz and loved that it came in a mug, while my husband got a 16 oz to-go. My only wish is that they would offer mugs for the larger sizes too. It would be a nice way to cut down on paper and plastic and make the experience even better. Overall, Akamai Coffee is a gem. Between the amazing drinks, delicious pastries, welcoming atmosphere, and thoughtful service, it's the kind of place you'll want to visit again and again. They also have various sizes, not just one size which was nice to control the intake of caffeine for the day. I tried the Road to Hana which was good, on the sweeter side. Then, on the second visit, the server told me that I can get the hot chocolate seasonal flavor as a coffee and make it less sweet - i did that. Both very yummy drinks. On the sweeter side. I did not feel the caffeine as much as I did with Early Bird. I love that they offer drive-thru, though, which was super clutch and the reason for our multiple visits. I tried to go to their Kihei Plaza location, but couldn't figure out how to get to the drive-thru, haha! I really like that I can select from the old world German Artisan collection and the Hawaiian Artisan baked goods. I snagged the Isabelle, a loaf of bread made of spelt (dinkel wheat, high in protein, fiber, and antioxidants) and rolled in an assortment of seeds. The texture is soft and the crust is slightly chewy. Just right and the taste is very satisfying. I can't bring myself to putting a slice into the toaster, though, because I don't want to risk losing any of the seeds. I'll be fine with the broiler and some butter. I also went for the Hawaiian Bread. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It has pineapple, toasted coconut and tiny soft raisins. The bread is moist from the pineapple juice and the loaves are small. I could finish one off in a setting but I resisted the urge. I also bought extras for sharing and had to pass them out quickly before temptation called. I'll return soon.

Basically they cut the croissant in half, filled in the cream and put the top back. Odd. Better between the two. Might be too sweet for some. Prices are higher than other places. After looking over the menu I decided on a Haleakalatte and chose to get it hot. The menu described it as a deep rich caramel latte. As I watched the barista make my drink, I noticed it was going into a plastic cup, which meant iced. It ended up coming out as a large iced coffee. Since it wasn't a big deal, I took it and went on my way. The coffee itself ended up being pretty good. The caramel flavor was on the lighter side, adding some sweetness without overpowering the coffee. The coffee itself was rich and came through nicely. I also liked that they used coffee ice cubes, which helped prevent the drink from getting watered down as the ice melted. If anything, it added a slight bitterness, which I didn't mind. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I would have preferred the hot latte I ordered, the iced version worked out just fine and was still enjoyable.
