This location has gotten much better. I'm not sure what happened but it looks like there is new staff and they even remodeled the last few months. There is still the occasional drink mishap that occurs but not like it was before. Breakfast items now last all through out the week. Whoever is the new manager is taking care of it and making sure everything is stocked. This location in result has gotten much much busier which is a awesome thing. Apparently one of the neighboring buildings closed their starbucks which made this one super packed. They have adequate staff to tackle on the orders. I know I look scandalous. You can look, but it's rude to Starebucks. Not to be confused with Storebought, which is what most of the products sold here taste like. Usually with Sbux, I want to swear about how bad they are - but then it'd be Slurbucks. If it was in Iran in the 1970s it'd be the Shahbucks. But then Ayatollah would come in and f*** the whole place up. Khomeinibucks doesn't have the same ring to it. And Bilbo doesn't have the same Lordofthering to it as the word dildo. I have a big sexual attraction to the tunnels beneath the bowels of downtown Houston, and understandably so because they're f***ing awesome, aren't they? There's some great little local restaurants down here, a few local chains, and then a few mega corporations as well, including a bunch of very predictable Starbucks locations in what seems like every major downtown Oil Skyscraper (and Houston has quite a few of those). I wish I could fly. Then I would Soarbucks. And if I could turn back time and not come here, it'd be Cherbucks. I think of all the underground Starbucks in downtown (in fact all the Sbux in general in or near DT HTX), this is probably my fave. It's not that busy because it's kind of hidden on the NW side of DT HTX. It's in the Louisiana (Yellow) tunnel, and it's directly under the Shell building, which is amazing itself as I'll say in a minute. If you're driving here in DT HTX with no hands, then perhaps you should Steer-bucks. As a side word, the enormous building that is built directly on top of this Sbux, which it essentially provides coffee for, is one of those former-WTC-like mega-structures that is so f***ing big and spectacular, and takes up a whole city block. So much concrete, so hard, Barbi naturally loves it. So it gets extra marks for that too. The Russian version of this coffee shop is known as "Tsarbucks", and the rival from Ukraine is "Czarbucks." Not to be confused with VAR-bucks which is the money it costs for the Premier League to institute the video replay system that isn't working very well for the moment. Updated: This location went through a recent remodel, and also appears to have upped their game. I have been back several times, after the renovation, and have had good experiences. The location is under a building in the tunnel system that meanders around downtown Houston. I'm still getting used to that, being new to the Houston area. unlike some other places I've been to in the tunnels, this Starbucks was clean, modern, well kept, and the windows were so clear I felt I could walk through them. I would not suggest walking through plate glass windows, however. The seating and arrangement is typical of a small Starbucks, and they had all the normal drinks (unlike some small Starbucks locations inside buildings where they don't make Frappuccinos, for instance). The staff was friendly, attentive, and took my order right away despite being a little behind on making drinks. I got my order quicker than expected. The free Google Wifi was working great, and I also had 4 bars of AT&T service, which is quite a change from other tunnel locations where I have "No Service". This gives me a spot where I can update Yelp about other places I've tried in underground Houston. In all, I like what they've done to the place, and I hope they keep it up, because this is the closest Starbucks to my office :-) read more

If you are looking for a subtle tea with light aroma, peach tranquility is the best one. Order the 8 ounce version. They usually prepare it while pay. It's a great atmosphere with the morning crew. It's a good place to meet with friends or do light work (emails) on your laptop. read more

This location is no longer on top of its game. They have employees that obviously don't care about their job or how quick they push out drinks. If one section, like cold drinks, is slammed then another employee needs to move to that station and help them out. We waited 25 minutes for one drink while people who ordered their cold drinks after us got their drinks quickly. While most of the employees are super sweet and friendly there are a few that just ruin it because you can tell they hate working there. Management definitely needs to emphasize that team work and communication is key to getting things out in a timely manner. read more

I visited at 8:40 in the morning and waited for 20 minutes. I requested to have my drink made next because I was late for work. Tyrell the barista there said no, I respectfully requested to please make my drink because I had been waiting so long. He then proceeded to say that I was calling him a liar and was yelling at me in the store in front of everyone. He told me to talk to his manager. When he finally let me speak, I said all I wanted was my money back. I will proceed to follow up with management for his aggressive behavior towards me. read more

The line can be quite long at times, but usually moves pretty quickly. The staff are really friendly and even recognize their regulars and know their drinks. Biggest complaint about this location is the lack of chairs--seems like the renovation took away seating area, which made it a nice place to take a break from work or have an informal meeting with a small group. read more

I like this Starbucks, it's convenient and friendly, most of the time clean and stacked up with condiments, however, the line moves very slow. It can take a while if you did not order in advance on the app, even then it can take a while for your drink to be ready. You don't see a sense of urgency and can feel a monotonous mood in everyone's face, no outspoken personality, except for Hunter, which makes it very hard for me to remember their names because they don't make any impression. On the other hand I can see why that would be the case, I used to be the young adult in a part time job and going to school. I would say, give better training to you cash register personnel and pay them better so the good once don't want to become baristas due to a better pay. read more

Fast but impersonal. Besides the fact that they gave my sandwich to someone else and I had to wait a few extra minutes to get my order today, this location is not too terrible. Good: It's clean, fast, and they always have what I want at 7am. Bad: they don't take the time to ask your name. Other locations are very good about this, especially downtown. We visit this Starbucks located in the tunnel of One Shell Plaza (Downtown Houston) quite frequently. They are always extremely busy, with some small windows where you can get in and out quickly. Thankfully, I am a fan of ordering on the app and get an alert before I walk over. The staff is always friendly and tries to remember who orders what drink. I don't mind the lack of seating, because there is a small area outside between this and another tunnel restaurant. This location has been in the tunnel under One Shell Plaza for years. It is often crowded in the morning and around 3:00 pm. They close at 5:00 pm. The staff are all super friendly and the drinks are, for the most part, in line with what you generally find at other Starbucks locations. My issue with them is that they start shutting down the decaf expresso machine between 3:30 and 4:00 now. Many people have to stop caffeine intake in the afternoon so that it doesn't interfere with their sleep so this is right around the time when they should be selling more decaf. Furthermore, the line starts to die down around this time so there's a shorter wait. I used to be able to get decaf beverages after 4:00, but haven't been able to do so for months now. I understand that they close at 5:00 and they all want to rush out of there and go home, but I think that all of their products and services should be available right up until they close the door at 5:00. This is, by and large, one of the absolute worst Starbucks location I've ever patronized. They are in a prime downtown Houston location, situated in the tunnel of One Shell Plaza, and they get a staggeringly large clientele on a daily basis. When this location first opened, they were great. Their staff was helpful, efficient, and very professional. The service has declined steadily and, today, is just plain awful. I realize that any service oriented business can have an off day. But, their off days are now their normal days. I admit that I am particular when it comes to purchasing food and drink, and even more particular when it comes to service. The people working in this location look as though they would rather be anywhere than where they are at that moment. And, quite frankly, the majority of them act as though they have absolutely no clue as to what they are doing. Or, perhaps they don't care. I'm thinking it's the latter. Time after time, they seem to be unable to fill my order in the way that I request it. I do not speak in a rapid fire pace. I certainly do not mumble, I speak clearly, loud enough for them to hear me, and I enunciate very well. Add to that, I am specific in my in ordering so that there is no confusion. It always comes out wrong. I'm done with them. I am all about second, third, fourth chances, but, I don't need to spend the money on their overpriced drinks and snack items. And, I'm sure this location will not be reeling from my not being there, nor do I think they will care. read more
