Anyone that knows me will learn that I am a Starbucks fan. However, this is one Starbucks I refuse to go back to. I am used to waiting in long lines at a Starbucks and fluctuations in drink quality. This is the one Starbucks I have gone to multiple times and I have never received a good drink. "If it was bad, why did I go back again?" one may ask. I am a caffeine and Starbucks addict. Plus, my go-to Starbucks was the Sears location, which closed a few months ago. So, I figured I should give this Starbucks location a few chances. I gave them three. The first two times there was a long wait to place my order and to receive my order. I ordered a caramel macchiato both times. Both times, the taste was different from other locations, but I chalked it up to it being a different location. Both times, I had stomach pains after drinking the coffee. I didn't go back for awhile. Then, one Saturday afternoon, I decided to give them one more try. This time, I ordered just an iced grande coffee. No milk, no sugar; just straight-up coffee. Simple right? Apparently not. My drink order must've have been lost because I waited for at least 15 minutes for my drink. The kicker was my husband got the same drink just a larger size (venti), he ordered AFTER me, and he got his drink before me. I also noticed others that ordered drinks after me were getting their drinks. My husband had to go up to the barista to ask about my drink (I was livid and did not want to talk to them) and I finally got it. After all of that, the iced coffee tasted burnt. If I want Starbucks at Ala Moana, I will be going to the cafe in Barnes and Noble. read more

I usually come here before the Perry and Price Saturday Morning Shows (when I have time). There's hardly anyone there, aside from the workers that is! I'm usually the first or second person in line depending on what time I come in (between 0630 - 0750). My two usual orders iced coffee with milk, sweetened OR cinnamon dolce latte. I prefer my latte. Disappointing service. The associate that served me did not have the usual outstanding Starbucks service we all have come to expect. The way she spoke to me was disrespectful and unwarranted. I asked for a cup of ice with my drink at the cash register, when the ice came in a medium cup, I asked if I could have a large cup of ice. She responded, "Next time tell the cashier about you want a large cup of ice!" Then she gave me a large empty cup and I had to pour the first cup of ice into it. When I asked for more ice, and when she gave me another cup of ice to pour into my cup. Then she said "Throw the cup and extra ice into the trash!". Very disappointing. read more

The customer service at this Starbucks is amazing. Before reading on, I'd just like to say my rating is based solely off of customer service, because I think most Starbucks are basically the same with serviceable, but overpriced drinks. However, I will choose to go to certain Starbucks more frequently if they have good customer service. Before coming here, I had tried to go to the Starbucks in Target, but they had few food options when I went there, and the cashier looked like she was not having a good day. I decided to go to another side of the mall for a Starbucks located in Macy's. The last time I'd gone there, there was a nice cashier named Brett, and he was still super friendly, making sure to wish all the customers a good day. He even gave me a water without me asking, just because he thought it would help with the croissant I ordered! The rest of the staff was also super responsive and helpful to the customers, one member going out of his way to walk up to an elderly woman who hadn't heard her name, and made sure she had her order. I love this Starbucks out of all of Hawaii - includes the neighbor island too. The closers at this Starbucks makes you feel like family (ohana) and they have the true "aloha" (friendly) spirit. The baristas (Jesse) and shift manager (Nate) get to know their customers, their drinks, and make great recommendations all the time. They always have my drinks and sometimes have seasonal drinks with so many different items that are on the secret menu items. At night, the lines are not that long and they make your drinks with precision and with quickness. The store is always clean, organized and they have enough chairs and tables outside. For drinks, for fall season I love the pumpkin chai spice latte with steamed milk. For tea, I love the strawberry acai refresher. For iced coffee I love getting iced coffee with white mocha syrup with no milk and no classic. For food, I love the steak and egg wrap and getting the sriracha sauce is amazing. A popular spot at the Ala Moana shopping center in Honolulu. Like many busy retail locations for this chain this Starbucks can have long lines. It's up on the 2nd floor in a corner of the Macy's department store. I appreciate the wonderful way I've been treated even though I am just a random person in their very busy day. With the nearly constant stream of thirsty humanity that line up all day everyday, it's phenomenal how courteous, efficient and accurate the staff is day after day and visit after visit. Check out the undulating curved floor under your feet, it slopes noticeably downhill away from the counter-yet the doors open & close without scraping. So normally this is one of my favorite Starbucks to go to until today. I did a mobile order for a mocha before I got there and tried to put in an order for a pumpkin bread as well but it kept saying this store was sold out. Upon arrival to the store I saw that they indeed had pumpkin bread so I went ahead and ordered "a warmed pumpkin bread and water." The barista asked me if I wanted it warmed up and I answered yes (being that's literally what I just said). I got my mobile order then my water which had literally no ice in it even though I did NOT order it that way. I usually order extra whipped cream in my drink because I love the taste and will usually eat it after I drink my drink. Well today... upon finishing my drink, I opened the cover to discover a disgusting hair inside my whipped cream! Had I not left, I would have gone back to complain but I was already long gone! It's always nice to grab a drink from Starbucks anywhere you go these days, since there are so many locations out there worldwide. It's definitely a delicious treat you go. Enter Starbucks at the Ala Moana shopping center - 2nd floor next to Macy's. I've had my share of visits here through the years here, since I know it's been a few years since this Starbucks launched here at the Ala Moana shopping center. This Starbucks location always seems to be crowded and is often the joy of tourists and local shoppers alike when they want their Starbucks fix in the middle of a shopping trip at any time of the year. There are 2 Starbucks locations at this mall and the other one is located at the street ground level, next to the Sears. It's always the usual Starbucks experience here, although the cafe itself is relatively small and all the seating for customers is located outside, adjacent to the store. There are plenty of tables and seats, but sometimes, all of them are taken up, so you would have to stand and wait for a seat. There is free wifi, as all Starbucks locations do, but at this location, there are no visible outlet plug ins for customer use, so you would need to bring your own external battery to power up your portable devices. For what it's worth though, Starbucks does a great service for those who need wifi and it is free 24/7. Wish they could have the outlets too, like other stand alone Starbucks coffee shops. The overall experience here at this Starbucks - Ala Moana shopping center (2nd floor) is your typical Starbucks vibe. There are changes that is currently being addressed along the walk corridor, so there is a nice metal roof that covers your experience here at Starbucks. The main store itself has plenty of merchandise to clutter up the floor space, so on any given day there is a line of customers waiting to get your Starbucks fix. Any day that I am here shopping at Ala Moana and need a fix myself, i would have to go through this process called a line and it can be very congested. The wedding doesn't really bother me as much, at the end of the day you do get your order and can finally satisfied that so I was craving that we all know and love. This StarBucks location, like most of them out there, accepts major credit cards, which is a great thing. Cashless is awesome! Since this location is tucked away in the mall, best bet is to park on the mall level parking and walk in my Macy's. If you are like me, TheBus routes 3, 9, and "C" country express are some of the routes that come through ala Moana shopping center. Just need to walk in and get to the 2nd floor and the main elevators are located at the center stage area. All services that Starbucks has done has been serviced with a smile. Fast and friendly service is the key to awesome customer satisfaction, which is what I got. I love the fact tat Starbucks gets product out within 5 - 8 minutes of the order, which is pretty amazing. My go to drink of choice is currently a trenta iced green tea or a black tea. Regular or lemonade form. Sometimes I would buy a pastry from them too as a quick meal or a snack on the go. For the most part though, Starbucks is those quintessential American institutions that brings America to what it is. Capitalism at its finest and it's definitely a good thing. Although Starbucks can be pricey for what it serves, millions of people continue to come through its doors and spend $. - as I still do, maybe once a week instead of daily in a previous life. Overall, I can't complain. Starbucks is everywhere and can be your stop for coffee, drinks, and food for your daily life. It's a small Starbucks, but they serve everything most Starbucks serve. It's super clean and the barista's are very sweet. L O C A T I O N Inside the Ala Moana Mall next to Macy's. The mall has paid parking so I would avoid this Starbucks if it's just to get coffee, besides that there are plenty of stores to peruse around. D R I N K I redeemed my free drink and wanted to try something new, so I pick their latest creation the //Protein Blended Cold Brew//. This drink in theory sounds awesome because 1) It's a cold brew = more caffeine to get me through the day 2) PROTEIN! In reality this drink is a hard pass. The protein and cold brew slush tasted so chalky and gritty. It's like drinking a bean smoothie. S E R V I C E I came at an ok time so my drink came out in a timely manner. The baristas were alright. O V E R A L L I'd probably come back if I needed a drink and that's it. There were no tables or chairs because this location is pretty small compared to others. I did notice that there were a lot of mobile orders so I'd probably come back if I wasn't in a rush to get places. I love this Starbucks location! I've made more than a couple of visits to this location and the regular morning baristas know my drink and name. That's a good thing in the morning because if you know me, the less words I need to say before my coffee, the better! Starbucks in general always makes me a little happy because I love coffee and I hate making it myself! It's also close enough to work to take a short break and walk over, and far enough that it feels like we've spent a good amount of time away from staring at our computers. This location has all of the regular food and drinks, and usually has all of the retail items (mugs, tumblers, teas and coffees etc) for sale too. They don't have a clover machine, but I think that's lucky for me since I'd probably order that to try all the reserve coffees. And let's be honest, I don't need to spend any more money here than I already do! They do mobile orders and thankfully you can also use your rewards now!) The other thing this location doesn't have is indoor seating. All of the tables are right outside the actual store under the Macy's building roof or umbrellas. My biggest thing if I'm going to be hanging out is a/c and obviously outdoor seating doesn't provide that. I love this Starbucks! Because of its convenient location next to Macy's, there tends to always be a line and the tables are almost always taken. However, the workers here are the best in the business. I have frequented this location many, many times (way more than my check-ins attest to) and have never met with sub-par service or drinks. I am always greeted with a smile and my drink is consistently excellent. Besides the fact that this Starbucks is one of the busiest establishments, they get their orders out very quickly. The workers are very friendly and very attentive to their customers. Nothing much to say since there are different franchises but I like going here because its near my second working place and their merchandise is always stocked and clean. What I find amusing in this Starbucks is the high number of male workers and the height of their baked good case. Day 041/365 Yelp Challenge 2011 I usually go to Shirokiya or the Pineapple Room for a cup of decaf., or sometimes even Foodland downstairs, mainly because the line here is so long. It sometimes winds all the way into the Origins' department area in Macy's and I don't always have that much time to be waiting. They do have the Honolulu Weekly to take for free, in the bottom shelf of their newspapers. I also like the small discount if you bring your own re-useable coffee cup. read more

Of the 3 Starbucks in the mall, this is the bottom-ranked. Why? Well, for one, the service is inconsistent. After today's order, it gave me cause to write a review because enough is enough. I got an-almost $7 frapp that was not filled to the top all the way. I figured that since I didn't want whipped cream, the barista made some allowances but that is shorting the customer. I make a big deal out of it because the damn drink cost almost $7. I've seen some baristas at the mall kiosk location, go over the top and putting a dome top instead of the flat one, but this location cheats customers and cuts corners. Didn't think I'd notice? I don't know what this place is like during the year, but at holiday time it's a madhouse. You can guarantee that the line will stretch to the Macy's border with orders taking 20 minutes on average to complete. However, each time I stop in, the baristas maintain their cool which helps to diffuse a lot of the frustration the wait creates. Like I said in my check-in: BEST. STARBUCKS. AT. HNL. I think it was because when I started going to school in town, I would always go to this particular Starbucks. Most of the staff is from the former Sears Starbucks, so you could say I grew up along with the store and the baristas. The baristas are always so helpful. No matter how busy it is or how early it is, they'll always greet you with a warm smile. You can tell that they love working with each other and do their best to make the customer happy because they always present themselves in a positive way. Even when the customer treats them negatively, their service is still top-notch. The drinks are QUALITY here, even during rush hour. People come out walking and smiling knowing that their drink has been made to perfection (well, at least I do ;D) I love this Starbucks location - and it's way less crowded than the Centerstage one. I like both locations, but if you want to get your drink in a shorter line, then I'd highly recommend this one. read more

It is always crowded because it's small and is located in a high volume transit area. This results in a line that usually stretches into Macy's. It does move relatively quickly though. Once they go out of business, I stop functioning. Haha. Okay, so I know that the Starbucks franchise as a whole does not offer the best brewed coffee in the world. They just market well and pop up in nearly every major city around the U.S., though I do know that San Francisco has a tougher time allowing big corporations into its limits just because of all the individually owned entrepreneurs. Anyways, I digress. This particular Starbucks location I go to because it is close to where I work. The main reason I go: THE SERVICE. Not saying that the Sear's one is bad, but I mainly go to this one because I have befriended most of the staff and they know me already. They have always been friendly and very spirited whenever I go, which says a lot about their character since it is by far no easy job to work in such a fast-paced environment. My only one ding would be that they need to learn how to multi-task drinks because some of them can, but a lot of times they do end up taking a bit over 5 minutes to make a drink. This also might be due to the cramped space they are required to work in. I mean, there really is barely enough room to move around back there and I have seen seven of them working all at once with two or three blenders and two espresso machines. However, I have seen similar work done at a faster pace while in California so I do have higher standards when it comes to organization. The food is mediocre but will satisfy you when you need a bite. I don't go there for the food though. I go there because the coffee has the rite amount of bite that kicks in really quick for me; bitter. My favorite and regular drink is a Venti Iced Soy Caramel Macchiato, Sub Caramel and Stirred. Normally the macchiato is layered with the espresso on top but I ask them to stir it for me. The sub caramel is to replace the vanilla syrup with caramel syrup for a sweeter kick. I love CARAMEL!!! It hides the bitterness of the espresso. Haha. If you do go for the food, the yogurt is pretty good. Personally I enjoy the Chicken Santa Fe Panini. There's chicken breast with a sour cream green chili spread that adds a kick to the palate and topped off with bell peppers and melted pepper jack cheese. Usually runs for about $5.95. I also enjoy the Spinach Feta Wrap that has egg white, spinach, feta cheese, and tomatoes all within a wheat wrap that makes for an amazing breakfast ($3.95) or the Bacon, Egg, & Gouda Artisan Roll ($3.95) that has bacon, Parmesan frittata and Gouda cheese all nice and cozy in an artisan roll. The bun is pretty crispy though if it were freshly baked rather than freeze dried and then heated in the oven, there would be an even better taste. The pricing could be lowered a bit or, instead, they could just not charge for different syrups or to add soy milk. I honestly don't think that it should cost so much for a cup of coffee but it isn't expensive if you treat yourself once in a while. Or better yet, register a gift card and earn points that way you become a Gold Member and can get certain items for free. The layout is a bit small with limited outside seating but I normally just have great conversations with the staff while waiting for my macchiato and then walk straight over to work. I mean, Ala Moana is one of the biggest open air malls in the U.S. so it means that wherever you decide to park yourself to enjoy your coffee it's going to be a pleasant time. Atmosphere wise, the music is your generic jazz music. Normally I'm listening to my iPod so I can't really hear it. Haha. Still, nothing too bad to add to your experience. Overall, it is definitely my favorite place because of the people who work there. I will give it a three star rating mainly based on the pace/organization because I have seen faster. However, I definitely love this location because of the people who work there and start my day off great. If it were just based on that alone, I would definitely give them five stars. read more

I'm surprised this location (Macy's Ala Moana) has only a 3-star rating because they have awesome service! I come here almost daily because I work nearby. They make it a point to remember their regular's names and drink orders, and they have a LOT of regulars! It is not uncommon to hear them addressing person after person by name and asking if they will be having their usual. There are a bunch of tables & chairs outside but be prepared to come early as they are usually filled before 9am. This particular location does get very busy, especially around 9 am when employees in the area are trying to get their caffeine fix in and also considering that they are located in the mall. One issue, that has been addressed in previous reviews is that while most of the workers try to be quick in getting the orders processed, there are some that really seem to take their time. In their defense though, this location seems to get a lot of new workers who aren't there in the long-run so I'm thinking maybe this is a store that they use to train baristas? Either way, I keep coming back not just because this location is super convenient for me but because I always receive great service! read more

This location tends to get busy so if you have to get somewhere or just don't want to wait in line and you have the Starbucks app then I suggest using it at this location because it's fast and you get to skip the line. I usually never give any Starbucks a low rating but this location just really sucked. My mom and sister and I decided to go shopping one night and I guess they were having an off day? Like always, this location usually has a long line that goes along with a long wait for the drinks. Of course, there was only one barista making the drinks, one person taking orders and two other people just walking around looking like they were doing something. Usually I don't mind if they have just one person taking orders. but this time I just couldnt stand how terrible their service is. The flow of their store is just terrible..stands in the middle of the already tiny floor. What really annoyed me that lead me to giving a one star rating is the person actually making the drinks. The guy making my drinks was not very kind. When my drinks were ready he just throws the straws at me. Strike one. He doesn't call out the drinks or the name. Strike two. And the drinks sucks!!! Strike Three!!... My white mocha was so hot that the heat went straight through the cup and he doesn't even have the courtesy to put those card board wraps around it.. so that was annoying. My mom ordered a raspberry passion tea.. tasted like water. I can understand that when locations are busy, some people cant handle being under stress.. but this location was just terrible. Also!!! my sister decided to get a caramel frap later on that night so we go back. I'm thinking oh maybe itll be different.. nope!!! wait was still long.. i went browsing in shirokiya and my sister still didnt get her drink.. and when she did... all she got was ice.. she couldnt even suck it through the straw.. she asked for caramel walls.. didn;t get it. terrible terrible terrible. read more
