I have lived next to Star Pizza for many years now (literally less than a half mile), and somehow I had never been up until this past month. I will chalk that up to being stuck in my old ways, and driving cities away to get to places I went to growing up... but I digress. I have to say, this place is way better than I expected. Most pizza joints offer nearly the exact same menu, and you will not find an exception here-- except for that fact that their menu, in addition to the usual pizza place chow, is actually very extensive. There are endless offerings on the paper menu, and it would take me probably a year to sample everything they offer. My go to? A cheeseburg grinder. For me, that alone can make or break a place, and it is the starting point for any review I make. That being said, Star Pizza nailed it. The bread was fresh and toasted perfectly. The pickles the best I have ever had on a grinder (might have to do with the shape of them-- order, and you will see what I mean), and the mayo, lettuce, tomato, and even mayo, tasted as if it came from my own kitchen. Absolutely blown away, and to say that they went above and beyond my expectations would be an understatement beyond measure. As far as delivery, I cannot review that aspect, since I walk to this place and it only takes me five minutes to do so. No place in the world is perfect, so are there cons? Sure. Just a couple, and nothing that changes my mind about coming back again and again. Sometimes they have an extensive wait-- over a half hour or more, and that is for pickup, not delivery. I think that says a lot about their business, though-- there is a reason they are busy as can be. Lastly, they came off as very impatient the first time we ordered. They said our order (two grinders + fries) would be ready in 20 minutes. Since we were grocery shopping, it took us about 30 to get there. Within 2-3 minutes of it being 20 minutes, I got a call asking if I was coming (not in a rude way, at all.) Again, absolutely nothing that would stop me from coming back. All in all, if you want a great local pizza joint, with the usual fare, with quality food, and with prices approaching the best you can find, look no further. read more

Went in to pick up a take out order about 2-3 weeks ago and I was the only person in there wearing a mask. I was very uncomfortable with them handling my food after seeing that. I know masks are uncomfortable and I'm sure it's very hot in there. However, it's not like they were wearing masks and just had them pulled down, not one person working there was wearing one. Star probably has the best pizza, next to Bella Napoli, in W.Springfield. The large cheese is huge and loaded with cheese. Even with 2 people, you'll have leftovers for sure. Be sure to ask for the take-out pizza special if you pick it up. Only drawback is the staff is a little rough and the area itself around the shop is sketchy. read more

I ordered right when the delivery thing was I gear (11A) a medium pizza, 16 in. grinder w/sausage, peppers, onions, cheese & sauce & curly fries. The only reason this spot didn't get a five was due to the guys being little over-occupied with the phone instead of letting me ask on the time it'd take from the order to the spot I live & the guy was late so why one less star than what it got. First time stopping here. Was craving a meatball grinder and a Greek salad, they had both, and were on my way to work. Called ahead and they had my order ready to go when I got there 20 mins later, as promised. Very pleasant woman at the front gave me a much bigger bag than I was expecting, and I paid the $15 or so, and headed out. So, the food! The grinder was pretty good...a little overloaded with cheese in the middle, and a little light on the sauce, but very tasty, and nicely toasted. The Greek salad could have been a meal all its own, with big chunks of feta, a couple nice grape leaves, and good fresh ingredients. I was a little disappointed to see canned cardboard-ish olives instead of real kalamatas , though. Otherwise it was what you'd expect. What I didn't expect was for it to come with an entire loaf of garlic bread, though! Not that I'm complaining, but it was a bit much, and I would've preferred plain bread or a pita if I was going to be getting bread. Overall, though, the food was good, and while the price seemed high....It was fair considering I got enough for two people. I'd stop by again, but next time maybe ask for a side salad(?) or something. read more

I was disappointed with my experience. The delivery took twenty minutes longer than they said. The chicken Alfredo could have fed four people, so charge $8 instead of $16 and don't give as much. The food was good, but it was WAY too much. The spaghetti could have fed three people. The food is good, but if you're gonna get it...share it. The Caesar salad wasn't a Caesar salad. It was lettuce and tomatoes with Caesar dressing. I also asked for five or six salt packets and got two and the forks sucked for pasta. Absolutely disgusting meal. We ordered from hotel room and we ordered boneless wings that were very soggy and rubbery. We ordered subs that were nasty. Nasty meat on both. Ordered a Gyro and half of the pita bread was just mush bu the lamb meat was well seasoned. The sauce that came on it looked more like feta cheese. Also the buffalo tenders were okay just a bit on the sweet side my wife said. The garlic knots were okay but very soft and mushy as well and took about an hour to get to us when the lady said about 30 minutes. I had to update my review because I am eating the Star Salad with grilled chicken and it's one of the best salads I've eaten in my life. Their grilled chicken is really flavorful and you get a ton of it. The salad itself is loaded with bacon, hard boiled eggs, feta, mozzarella, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, spinach, red onions and green peppers. The small salad is huge and is more than enough for one very person. I've been ordering from them consistently for the past few months whenever I'm at work and they have no disappointed. My co-workers and I ordered wings, steak and cheese grinders, jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks and fries one night and everyone was very happy with their food. I tried the pizza once and it was great- cheesy, a little greasy, and the sauce had a hint of sweetness. Very good. We are from out of town and staying in the comfort inn where star Pizza was recommended. We ordered the pizza via online and it told us that that it would be here in an hour which is longer than you would expect but we got over it and decided to wait it out . After an hour and a half we called them and they said it would be another 15 minutes. After 45 more minutes the pizza ,wrap and grinder finally arrived. At this point we are 2 hours after our order time and I am loosing my patience. We open up the pizza which was supposed to be all pepperoni and sausage with hot peppers added to one half. The pizza they brought was half pepperoni sausage and half peppers . We finally opened it and we're beside our self in the fact that they only have us half pepperoni and sausage and the other was covered with so many jalapeños that you could not see the cheese. On top of the messed up Pizza the chicken wrap we got looked to be a salad wrap as there was what seemed to be 1 chicken finger sliced up into 5 pieces and had so much lettuce in it that it was falling out. The chicken grinder was the worst of the story. While the they gave a solid quantity of meat the flavor was absolutely atrocious. It seemed as if they ran it up the side of the Grease trap and coated it on the cheapest hot teriyaki-sauce they could get there hands on . When we called about the pizza they told us they could not do anything about it other than offer us a free small pizza which is the poorest compensation I've ever been offered . I am not one to complain much but this was an absolute disaster and while the pizza was good it was nothing to write home about . Seriously, I've been ordering Star Pizza for the past 4 months or so, I work at a Hotel and have sampled many of the local Pizza Shops around town and Star Pizza is the best, by far. The delivery is always fast, and the pizza is great. If you like Greek pizza try the Star Special!! Their wraps are also great as well. read more

I just ordered a pizza from here online to be delivered to downtown Springfield. The reviews I read in advance didn't talk too much about the pizza so I thought I'd leave one myself. Place was completely unprofessional. Waited an hour for our delivery of two subs and an appetizer. And when called back, they had taken down the wrong phone number and address, even when we spelt out the street name. They also asked if we were sure the delivery guy didnt call. We waited another half hour and asked for a refund. Took 3 days for the money to get back. read more

I will begin by saying I have no problem with the food. Amazing Salads and omelettes are great too. The problem I have is when you add bacon and they charged $0 the first time, $2 the second and today $3. The omelette comes with toast and fries - which we declined.
