I had a under ground propane tank installed by Star Gas. They recommended RF-Scapes to do the excavating. Ryan did a great job digging the hole. No damage to the area around where he dug. Also the area was cleaned up. Leaving only some light raking and putting down grass seeds. Star Gas had two man on the job as soon as the tank was in the ground it was hooked up and tested. they had the tank filled and back in service with in a half hour. We were down total of 4 hours great job guys thank you. read more

I am writing to share a discouraging experience I had with Star Gas. I discovered that two propane tanks I purchased were filled with air instead of propane. This caused an unexpected disruption in my business and required additional time and expense to resolve. I received two propane tanks that appeared to be empty or under-filled. When I tested them, they did not perform as expected. I attempted to contact Star Gas to discuss the issue and request a resolution. Despite providing my receipt, I did not receive a satisfactory response or a clear course of action to address the problem. The incorrect filling disrupted my operations and led to downtime and additional work to verify and correct the issue. The lack of timely, satisfactory follow-up from staff left me feeling unsupported as a customer. I retained my receipts and documented the issue.I plan to file formal complaints with the Attorney General's office and other relevant agencies to request an internal investigation and ensure proper resolution. A formal review of the incident and confirmation of the actual contents of the tanks. A prompt corrective action from Star Gas, including a refund or replacement tanks that are properly filled and certified. Improved customer service and verification procedures to prevent recurrence. I have documentation (receipts, dates, and the issue description) and am pursuing official channels to address this matter. read more

The ladies are very disrespectful right now My gas is out. I have $150 credit with them and they refused to deliver propane because they want me to pay over $400 to fill the tank. The one lady was rude and very disrespectful by telling me to put water in the microwave to heat it up For my shower. (I told her I don't have a microwave and that wouldn't help anyway) I guess when you have a non-commercial business, you can say disrespectful and incompetent things like that this has been going on for over a year. read more

So Star Gas has put me on a crazy payment program (from a year and a half ago) and Lisa admitted to changing the rules ( lying )every time I call I call to make a payment. I have the payment ready and by the end of the conversation she says she's gonna be pulling the tank and just discontinuing my service out of nowhere with all the rules they've constantly bended and I've had to squirm around again their private company. I guess they can do what they want. Don't get on there Bad side. But I was ready to pay my bill and I had credit with their company. read more

I had a Generac 24KW Generator installed in 2021. They did an outstanding job of installing at 500 Gallon buried propane tank then hooking it up to my generator. I just recently converted my boiler to propane and used the existing buried tank to feed in the boiler. Although another plumber hooked up the furnace, Star Gas came out to my house to ensure the gas line was hooked up correctly (it was), and I am now on automatic delivery with them. OUTSTANDING customer service! I'm glad I went with them. read more

I installed a Generac 22KW from Essential Power Systems (great and knowledgeable) in November 2022 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Before I did, I was looking for a propane company and called several. I wanted to install the tanks about 135 back from the road and all three companies would not go beyond 125 feet. Two of the companies wanted to install the tanks on the other side of the house and then dig a trench around to where the generator was to be installed. Both of these two companies did not know the cost of the trench excavations and were 'guessing' how much extra it would cost but they thought that it would cost around $500.00 extra. I called a friend of mine and asked who he used for his propane fueled generator. He suggested Start Gas. I talked to Robin Moore from Star and he suggested that I put 2-3 100 gallon tanks next to the house which would meet building code and still give me the need side setback clearance of 10 feet. Robin knew area building code and was not just a salesman but but he knew what could/could not be done. The actual cost was less than the estimate because I prepped the ground area before the tanks were installed so I saved 2 man hours of labor. Lisa from the office, followed up to make sure I was happy. Robin Moore deserves a rating of 11 out of 10. I was going to go with 2 tanks and he suggested 3. He gave me a link to research and I went with 3 tanks. I am VERRY HAPPY. They are great and knowledgeable people to deal with. read more

This business has a unique approach to customer service....they really care about their customers. I have used them for propane for 9 years and they are a pleasure to work with. I installed a 500 gallon tank and had them hook up my pool heater, took out my electric stove and hook up my propane stove and then they hooked up my weber grill, so I never needed to purchase those little tanks from the hardware store. I'm on automatic delivery, which they are always on time with there delivery's. This month they attempted delivery but could not get pass the cars to get the hose around, so no delivery. I ran out on a Saturday night called, they were at my house Early Sunday morning. The Gentleman that delivered was very nice, didn't want to leave until he knew if my gas stove would light. Last year we had a whole house generator installed and obviously needed to get a power supply. Star Gas was extremely helpful in advising us as to size of propane tank. They pointed out the pros and cons of above and below ground tanks. After many questions, we decided to go with their recommendation. We have been with Star Gas for over twelve years. It was first for a fireplace insert. We were impressed with the installation. More recently they have installed a buried storage tank and a new stove for us. Again, both projects were completed seamlessly. We have since moved from oil to LP and utilize propane for heat, hot water, dryer, fireplace, grill (no more little tanks!), fireplace and generator. I'm very disappointed. I have been a Star Gas customer for 15 years. I have had issues with them in the past.. double deliveries..where I had to pay for their mistakes. Ok..so I did. I always pay COD. I'm low right now on propane. Asked for a delivery and because they don't come in into my neighborhood except Mon or Tuesday..they want to charge me $90... I'm 10 minutes away!!! Star Gas Products in Poughkeepsie is a very unscrupulous Company that failed to honor a credit due to me once I alerted them I had sold my bungalow & requested my credit in the amount of 39.37 be mailed to me. I have since contacted the Better Business Bureau in order to resolve my issue as well as make them aware that this is hardly normal business practice. Hopefully they will think twice prior to pulling this on future clients. read more

Jerry, the lead technician, diagnosed the problem through a series of tests which he willingly explained to me. Their work was professional and focused. I have been a customer of P****o many years, approximately 12. During part of the time period, I had automatic delivery of propane, they helped me adjust a kitchen stove that was set up for natural gas, so it operates on propane. They delivered gas automatically until I started to burn wood. Then I ordered intermittently. Before penny-pinching I wanted to support local companies and didn't pay much attention to the charges. Over the past two years I have been on a fixed income and need to penny-pinch, so I have been ordering propane intermittently using it only when I could not burn firewood. Even when I was on automatic fill up, the price they charged was approximately three times the average price of propane as I have found out, from other suppliers. I requested a price adjustment from the company by phone, I was told brusquely, that since I was an intermittent user, the price had to be higher by company policy and it is in line with the public service commission. A few years ago, I began receiving bills for Tank Rental. The tanks have been completely full for years, and I have rarely used the propane. I wanted the propane as a backup in case something happened to me that prevented me from gathering firewood. Although I was charged a large rental fee, no one ever came here to check the tank leakage, nor to do any service at all on the tanks. So, I also called P****o and asked that the fees be dropped because there was no real reason for the fees. The woman who answered in a similar brusque manner said that the charges could not be dropped because it is company policy and approved by the public service commission. So, for the past years I have been severely overcharged for propane, approximately three times the normal price from other suppliers. In addition, I have been paying a rental fee for which no service was provided over many years. When I asked for disconnected tank removal the P****o company came and removed the tanks. I had previously used up all of the propane so that the tanks were completely empty. I made sure that the tanks were empty and disconnected before calling Pa***o. I had heard through friends that companies come and fill up the tanks before they remove them! They then charge for emptying the tanks at a high price, plus the removal fee. They sent me a bill for the removal of the disconnected tanks. The removal which took approximately 10 minutes cost $145.80. The tanks were disconnected by my new supplier, Star Gas who charges 1/3 the price of Paraco, and with no service or tank rental charges. Before disconnecting the Paraco tanks the installers of the new tanks smelled gas, so the long rented tanks have been leaking. I do not have confidence in the business practices of P****o and wanted to warn others of their crushing fees for propane and difficult business practices. I changed my supplier to Star Gas. Am I happy I have done so! The installers came when they said they would, they removed the empty tanks, and when they looked over the place where these tanks had been installed noticed some problems and the tanks needed moving. There were electrical outlets and a clothes dryer vent too close to the location. We conversed, and found another spot for them. The workers then connected them, included some missing parts that were needed to provide sufficient flow to the furnace. The other company neglected either knowingly or from lack of expertise and care; the poor flow had not been sufficient for proper furnace efficiency during the entire time. Now the furnace is functioning properly, and it seems like the gas usage is much less than previously. The furnace runs less and heats better! I recommend the Star Gas Company for other reasons too. Their office manager staff, and schedulers are in control, as evidenced by the efficiency, timeliness, and expertise of their trained personnel. Besides that the company charges the going rate and does not price gouge people on fixed income, because some "authority" says they can. read more

And whoever answers the phones lies right to your face and tells you there's no usage fee but forgets to inform you that you will get them after a year! Rich and his team have always taken excellent care of us and does care about all his customers . I am friends with many other local business owners who all like Star Gas . They are a local privately owned Poughkeepsie business and I CAN NOT imagine that the large corporate propane suppliers would have and better service than Star Gas . Star Gas is NOT shady or a scam . They are robbers and thieves. I called this morning and told them my tank was empty. The woman Barbara told me there would be a $68.50 charge to pressure test the system. When the delivery arrived the driver told me the charge would be $188.21 before he did anything. My fill ups regularly are approx. $65-$80. So they ripped me off for $40. I'm a customer of Star Gas because I "inherited" them from the previous owners of this house. When I first set up the account by phone, I asked for automatic delivery. They neglected to deliver propane, my tanks ran dry, and then they charged me an outrageous fee to make a delivery to fix their mistake. Since then, I've had one problem after another with billing...they are always sending me late notices for bills I paid long ago, or just received a few days ago. They don't keep accurate records, and the left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing over there. Now they've cut off my propane delivery because of another "unpaid" bill -- that was actually paid months ago. After I straighten this latest mess out, I'm going to do what I should have done long ago -- ditch Star Gas and get another provider. read more

I have been experiencing only pleasantries with the customer service staff since writing my last review, and don't have problems anymore scheduling a delivery or speaking with someone who didn't answer with an attitude. The drivers still leave a lot to be desired (they still shove the receipt in the most odd places that they go out of their way to leave them in, like my garage code keypad), but at least their customers service experience is improving. Called Star and asked them to install two tanks for generator. Lou comes to my house and gives me a price in writing. Lou tells me he would dig a small trench from the tanks to the house then black pipe the rest of the way. The day comes and they did exactly what Lou said. At the end of the job I gave them a check for the remainder of the bill. Two days latter I get another bill. I called the office and spoke to Malissa. She tells me the extra is for digging a small trench and that it should have been noted on the original proposal, it was not on the proposal. I asked to speak to Lou and was told he had an emergency and he would call the next day. I called again the following day. Again Malissa tells me Lou would call me back. No call back. It seams to me they try to scam people. I should have looked at yelp before I chose this company. They are scammers. Stay fare away from this company. read more

They were prompt and professional in installing a gas line at my house, they make deliveries of a regular basis and I never run out of propane, and they were candid in advising me about oil vs propane boiler (even though their advice did not benefit them). This is a very shady company. I received three different bills over a 3 month period for the same amount. IMPOSSIBLE. That would mean I used the exact same amount of propane each month and that does not happen. Never do I see a subtracted meter reading on my bill to figure out my usage. In the summer my bills slow down to one bill every two months. This June I received a bill for $ 30.11 and in July I received a bill for the same amount. I don't even use $60 of propane in two months in the winter. Shady shady shady. Customer service-what a joke. Rude secretary named Cindy needs to learn some etiquette on how to relate to people. Not a friendly person at all. Also, I recently went paperless billing with this company, what a joke. Paperless billing means you receive an email that your bill is due and you have to print it out and supply your own stamp and envelope. The only one paperless billing benefits is them. When I asked them how come they don't do online bill payment they stated its to protect customers, yeah right, its to protect their shady practice. read more
