I had a great experience here. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and patient, not rushing me while I selected lenses even though the shop was close to closing time. The medical professionals showed lots of care and were very friendly too.I highly recommend this location. read more

First day I came in to try to get my glasses I was told I couldn't be helped because the lab was about to close .. keep in mind I did call ahead of time to see if they were open. Turns out the store was open but the lab wasn't. Ok let it slide even though I needed them that day and I spent gas already. Whatever. Second day I tried to go, google said this location was closed on Sunday so I had to drive all the way to national city. When I arrived the door was locked and it was 12:30. Apparently the manager forgot to unlock that door ... ok... although she was nice , she did mention that I couldn't get my glasses today because they don't do same day glasses in 15 min even though online it says they do. She told me to go to grossmont which was open Sunday! So I drove to national city for no reason again. Then I arrive to the grossmont location to try to use a $25 coupon that clearly says I can use it if it's my first time signing up with an email and the manger said I couldn't use it because I was being billed through insurance. I get it trust me I work retail too.. but if that was true , why wouldn't the coupon state that ? Also their lab says they do glasses in 15 min also not true. Anyways .. the gentleman who helped me was helpful in helping me find the correct glasses. I liked how my glasses were ready at the time they said they would be which was the very next day at 3pm. When I went to go pick up my glasses they gave me a case but I wish they had more accessories available within the store. Overall with the exception of the unclear communication between corporate coupons and lab time frames for creating the glasses... they were professional at checking me in and out. read more

After 8 months of lenses being made wrong, not putting the transitions on, making of wrong material, breaking the new frames, and even the doctor exam being also wrong I am now having to wear the scratched up glasses I was wearing when I first went to this La Mesa location. (The whole crew has been relocated to the Santee location.) Losing about $500.00 and a lot of wasted time I cannot recommend this company! read more

I used to go to Costco for my eye exam and contacts and glasses but ever since I found Stanton Optical, I don't ever want to go anywhere else! Their customer service is exceptional. Jay was so helpful and made sure I was taken care of. I got a discount on new lenses and on top of a discount for my contacts, I got a $50 mail in rebate! I forgot to bring my second pair of glasses and when I asked if those lenses would be full price, Jay told me they would take care of me. They always have the manager check their work before you leave so you know you are getting the best service. They do everything in shop too which is great. They didn't take my insurance and it was more expensive than Costco, but you get what you pay for. I definitely recommend! They also gave me my next exam for free!! Thanks Stanton Optical! read more

I had ordered 2 pairs of glasses and some sunglasses as well However one pair was not correct and wanted to correct them so they ordered a new prescription however I had went in and the order was sent to a different store so sale associate reordered them again and I got a text saying they were ready however when I went to pick up it was a completely wrong frame however Alex who was helping me said I can keep those frames and he will correct the order for the right order so I hope the next pickup will be correct. But Alex was very helpful!! read more

The customer service is good. Although, they run this scam with a grease marker on a plastic sheet with high prices and the mark the prices down to create the illusion you are getting some kind of great deal. That's all fine. The optometrist was nice and did a good job with my kid's prescription. None of this is where the problem starts. I would have given them 3-4 stars for this point. The problem starts when my kid was wearing his glasses for a week. He's 17 and has owned glasses since the age of 11. He has never broken a pair. A few days ago, he picks his glasses up by the arm and the glasses break in half right where the lens is installed. There was no sign of bending of the arms or frame. We took the glasses back. I meet with the manager and I point out how thin and flimsy the frame is and how it most likely broke during lens installation. The manager nods his head a lot, gets his grease marker out and talks about all these great discounts he's going to give us. I told the guy I didn't plan to spend a penny, these glasses were defective and I want the frames replaced for free. Then he argues with me and asks how we are both supposed to get something out of this exchange. At this point I said " exuse me? I'm your customer, you sold me a defective product and I expect you to replace the frame, you already got $300 out of me. That's what you got when we agreed to but the glasses are defective and for this to be a mutually benefitting situation, you need to give us nondefective glasses." The manager runs off and claims he's trying to contact his manager, but can't get a hold of him, now please pay for the frames. I reiterate I am not paying for a defective product. Finally he relents and agrees replace the frames for free. But, he kind of has an attitude and tells me he will be sure to put this exchange into his notes and that if I ever come back for replacement, I will pay full price. I told him he's lucky if I ever come back. Bottom line is the glasses are cheap and tend to break. They want you to pay to fix their cheap defective product even when you've been wearing them for less than a week. Avoid the trouble of dealing with this unreputable company, this is a scam and the product is unreliable. I regret getting my kid glasses from Stanton Optical and so will you if you chooses to do business with them. read more

I am disappointed with the product you sell. I came to your company for the special offer you were advertising, but after my exam I was told there were only limited frames that qualified. I needed bifocals and they told me that the bifocals would not qualify. Unfortunately for me I needed the glasses so I could do computer work for my business. The frame broke within a week after my exam The replacement frame broke in the same area as the first frame, but since we were in the middle of the pandemic, I have been unable to return to the La Mesa location. I also wish to complain that your company did not accept the AARP discount because they stated the offer was better than the discount. Since I could not qualify for the offer they should have given me my AARP discount. I contacted AARP and asked if your company accepted the discount and was told they should have given me the discount with the offer. I am a retired senior and need every money savings I can get and use. I will not only tell all my senior friends, but all of my friends who need glasses not to use your services or your company. Went in for new glasses on January 23rd, was told they would be ready in 7-10 days. On February 4th went into see if they were ready. Glasses just came in tried them on and they were blurry. Told I had ordered the standard bifocals, didn't understand what she meant. The bifocals that we're ordered only covered about 1/4 of the lenses. Then find out they were measured wrong, they took new measurements and upgraded my lenses. Was told they would put a rush on them. Called today a they were still not ready and was told they would be tomorrow, I am not holding my breath. read more

Very bad experience. Decided to go there as they advertise buy one get one free NOT! Was quoted for one pair reading and one pair distance with transgression 533.00 no insurance and 412.00 with insurance! Felt like I was at a car dealership as the guy kept going to talk to the manager and coming back with lower prices ! Came down to 170.00 but wait no second pair free if you use insurance that was it! Really ???? We said no way, false advertising etc. Poor guy was so petrified. Went to Costco and bought one pair progressive and transition with insurance for 25.00 !!!!! Shady operation Stanton is. I visited the La Mesa,Ca location on May 5th for a contact lens exam. I paid out of my pocket. I requested a prescription be given to me BEFORE I even had the exam. After the exam, I was informed by the staff they do not give prescriptions on the initial visit. I was told to call back in couple of days to request one. I have NEVER in my years of coming there had this experience . I called and spoke with someone to get a copy of the prescription and was told to wait 48 hours . I did wait and waited and waited. Eventually , I called again and finally received a "consent" form to get a copy of the prescription. I could have filled this out in store as part of their"paperwork" if I wanted the run around. Still almost 5 days later NO PRESCRIPTION. I am extremely upset it has even come to this. All I want is a copy of my prescription so I can order my contacts online.I have a job so I cannot keep coming into the store just to get a piece of paper . I hope you understand my frustration as we are all very busy in life and you should make sure your customers leave with what they came in and paid for. I will not be returning and I will also be filing a complaint with the better business bureau. However, Thank you to Martin who was the only associate that was able to actually assist me. read more

Absolutely horrible. I knew they were a ghetto eye glass company but this visit was embarrassing today. My sim went in got his eye exam and when I was trying to get his lens made, suddenly the guy working there decided to tell my tire company does not accept my insurance any longer and wanted to charge me full price. The reviews that talk about Alex adjusting frames, and frames NOT bought here, are 100% true!!! This dude is truly amazing. My frames were warped and twisted from an unsuccessful adjustment at a place I won't name. He fully realigned both the front and sides so that they fit ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Again, I'm not even a customer, and they didn't charge me anything, crazy. I am totally blown and away and will be a customer for life. An experience that not only gives me my favorite glasses back but restores my faith in humanity. THANK YOU ALEX and Stanton Optical! read more

What a scam. Seriously a huge rip off. Should have went to Walmart or Costco. This place uses every sales tactic in the book to rip you off. Literally had to raise my voice at the guy to get him to stop trying to rip me off and give me what is offered on the signs all over the building. read more

GREAT service from start to finish! Daisy is awesome! It all begins with the first person you deal with when you first walk through the doors. Every optical business has walls covered with "cool" frames. Yet if you are not made to feel welcome or your being there is an incovenience then out the door you will go. I did not purchase glasses there because of the glasses or even the price; I purchased them because of Daisy's excellent customer service! Wonderful first impression. Ditto for the doctor...very patient explaining everything. Jay as well was outstanding and very detailed when reviewing any and all issues. I like people who are "precise" when giving recommendations and suggestions...that is Jay! The common denominator with everyone...extremely patient! I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision. Finally I was told my glasses would be ready in 2-weeks and 1-week later I received a call that I could come pick them up! read more

Been going to Stanton about three years now. I like the virtual eye exam. High tech. Great selection of frames and prices. John P helped me today. He extended the discount on the frames I wanted on their website. No I wait for my new glasses. read more

I saw a 2 for the price of one plastered over their front window. I just wanted to get my eyes checked, I've never worn glasses. I rarely get them checked. But I wanted a pair for driving at night when I'm in a dark drive like mexico or El Centro to San Diego at night. I really hate going to get eyes checked because they always find you're imperfect and prescribe glasses and I just won't wear them non-stop. And same happened here. I was willing to give a try, but first they said they could make one pair right then, but dr had prescribed bifocal (now called progressives, haha I didn't have any idea what I was ordered) so I have one pair without the near sight that I paid for which I've used a few times over the past 2 mos when driving dark. Otherwise I'm fine driving. They want me to bring these back and get progressives, I don't want them. I wish I was educated what they were going to do. Then they sent out to make the driving sunnies. First time they come in 3 weeks later, they used the smaller frame Rx for the sunnies so the progressive line is in the wrong place. So they mail back to FL and wait 3 weeks for it to come back corrected. Is it? I don't know. I had foot surgery and could not go back when they arrived and no problem because for the most part I don't have problems reading close or driving. It feels like a giant waste and was about $350 total cost. The clear frames I am not going to get lenses changed into progressives to drive at night, but I paid for it. I'm going to another ophthalmologist that doesn't sell glasses to get my eyes rechecked. I feel there are a half dozen 20-somethings here that sell glasses. They were great helping me pick a frame, I'll give them that! If it sounds to good to be true, it is! The sales in here was intense... the add-ons to your glasses knock the price up, up, up. since I don't wear glasses, I don't know about the comparative cost but I felt that I got talked into stuff I didn't want or need. UPDATE: ha. I decided to go pick up the glasses before I posted. And here ya go... for the second time my sunnies came in clear lens -= 0 just unbelievable. Ordered 11/8, here it is 12/27 and after 2 tries they still have not got it right. BUT they've had my $$ for 2 months. Never again. read more

I brought my daughter today for her first eye exam and she was a bit worried at first. The doctor made the eye exam fun for her and did a great job explaining everything thoroughly, he was extremely friendly and accommodating as well. After the eye exam PJ and Heather assisted us in finding the perfect frames at a great price. They were patient with us, they provided great customer service, and were overall very friendly. The experience was better than I expected it would be. From the eye exam, to picking out the frames, and getting the lenses made for the frames, it only took 45 minutes. I would definitely recommend Stanton for eye exams and frames. read more

Cool place. Got a great deal on 2 pairs plus the exam. The Dr. Was awesome, everything was fast and under 1hr, got my frames done in 20 min, exam was about 20 min. Close place to my house, and I like their frame collection. 5stars for price, convenience and costumer service. read more

Went for 1 pair of glasses and like others got up-sold for another. Then I had a pair in the car that could use a new pair of lenses. It came time (they told me a week) to pick them up, it was now 3weeks later when they were ready. I couldn't believe, I couldn't use any of them. I was getting migraines and dizziness from all of them. I took them back and was told it was probably the pupillary distance that was off. SO they took them all back and tried to correct it. 4 weeks later, Bc their in house Machine went down, they told me and the glasses still are not right. I called the 1800 customer support and was told that now because my prescription is expired at this date in time they can't help me anymore Bc of it. Yet if they would have gotten the glasses correct the first time 9 weeks ago my prescription would not have been expired. They allowed me to fill and buy glasses w a prescription w 2 months left til expiration. It is not my fault they couldn't cut the lenses correctly two times!! The local store supervisor on my last trip to try to rectify this also states that If I want to buy a new prescription they can recut new lenses. Yeah okay.. they couldn't do it correctly the first 2 t times. Why should I buy a new prescription when I purchase these w my precious? I am stuck w 3 glasses useless. Waste of time and money. save your time and frustration read more

This place is a scam. From the moment you walk in, you read signs that say, "two pair of glasses for the price of one."What they don't tell you, is that if you have insurance, that you only get one pair of glasses and they charge you an exorbitant amount. For one pair of glasses, I ended up paying $421.00. They charge my insurance $211 and I had to the pay $210. They do not tell you this, until after everything is already done. So, out of pocket I would've paid $69 for two pair of glasses. With insurance, I paid $421 for one pair of glasses. read more

Okay, I guess. I never really enjoyed the customer service here because it was always awkward. There was a tension in the air between the employees and I. I went in to adjust my glasses as they were crooked on my face and when set down it was not leveled. I requested for an adjustment and they proceeded to say," I don't know what's wrong with it. It looks fine. Your ears might be weirdly shaped." Now, don't get me wrong not many things on your body is symmetrical. They must've mistaken me for a novice glasses wearer. But even a novice would know glasses aren't asked at an approximately a 25 degree angle. They made me feel unwanted and terrible. The employee working with me was stubborn, stuck-up, and arrogant. However, they got the job done after some rigorous debating. I will not be coming back anytime soon. read more

I'm giving all five stars because the slight problem which occurred was a result of my own failure to negotiate. I was otherwise satisfied, and I was in and out in under an hour. Mind you, I was a brand new customer having recently moved here from San Francisco. I came in in response to Stanton's promo which advertised glasses - two for the price of one pair- including free exam, lenses and frames. I'd lost my glasses the day before at the Padres game. I wear glasses only for distance as in the case of watching a movie, driving or attending a sporting event. I didn't want or need anything "fashionable". I chose an ordinary frame that was priced at $119. That should have meant that I'd get the two for that price. Such a deal! Haley cheerfully greeted me and took my ocular history and gave me a "pre- exam" much like the nurse takes your vitals before the physician sees you. And instantly upon completion of this, Dr. John (his first name- but he IS a doctor of optometry) gave me a complete exam. No waiting. I was impressed with his professional demeanor and his confidence. He also put me at ease with his easy, friendly manner. Once he wrote the prescription, he turned me over to Christopher whose name badge indicated that he is the store manager. So Christopher keyed in some data to his computer terminal while I fished out my credit card. When he said that the total came to more than $350, I was stunned. I reiterated that I had wanted only the basic package. He went back to the keyboard and made a few more taps. Then he presented me a bill of $167.50, still significantly more than $119. He said that he'd removed the other upgrades but kept the one for anti-reflection, insisting that I really did need that for driving. I'm a sap; I didn't challenge it. I was just happy that they were able to fill my prescription right then and there and I'd be on my merry way with my new glasses within twenty minutes. If you're OK with the up-selling strategy, you'll do fine here. I could have tried harder to resist, but what amounted to $80/pair wasn't bad. So the slight problem I referred to above was my lack of gumption to stand up for myself. read more
