Used Stanton for several pairs of glasses over the past several months and we had a mixed bag of issues. Over the course of this time I got a pair of regular bifocal glasses, a pair of bifocal sunglasses and a pair of basic single lens computer glasses. Initially went in with an ad/special, but by the time everything was added on it ended up being around $700.00 for everything. The prescriptions didn't work on the first go around and I had to be rechecked, and then there was a fee to redo the 3 lenses, and that came out to an additional $300+. I feel like I was taken advantage of, and upsold on a lot of things that in hind sight were not needed. I'm a senior citizen and feel like I didn't understand everything that I was being up-sold on and charged for until later, and now have regrets. My son thinks I was taken advantage of, and some things were added on that I didn't need or want, such as extra fees. I understand that the sale price we came in for was for basic glasses, and mine were beyond that, but there comes a point when the added fees and the upselling is far too much to keep track of and know if you really need. Once you're midway through a process like I was you do feel a bit trapped in finishing the everything if things need to be redone, and to keep adding things as they are recommended....what the heck is an "impact package" for $228.00 for 1 pair of glasses? I should have looked closer at my receipt before paying and leaving, but was so tired of the process I just wanted to get out of there. We also noticed on the receipt that frames were paid for more than once. We trusted the person entering all the info, and now that we're looking at the receipt and doing some bookkeeping/budget work we're seeing all these charges and fees that we now don't understand or feel are extraneous. The final time when going in to pick up the bifocals that had been redone, both of them were clear, so then we had to wait for the sunglasses to be made again. What they also do is charge for additional things, give discounts so you feel like you're getting a deal, but in the end the fees are higher than expected even with the discounts that are there to butter you up. In the end the entire experience started out good, and I was recommending to my son to use Stanton, but now with everything finished it was an overall negative experience. We didn't feel like spending any more time dealing with things or arguing about the fees, so in the end we just paid and moved on with our life. read more

I found the experience very impersonal and almost an assembly line process. The technicians who did the eye exam were assistants and gave very little information. The optometrist only came on via TV monitor at the end, and he gave even less information than the assistants did. I have to say it was a night and day experience when compared to past eye exams with other optometrists. Then my prescription glasses came in and they are a mess, with focal lengths being inaccurate and unusable. Looks like I'm wearing my old glasses till I can find a new Optometrist. read more

The worst service I have ever experienced. Technician was rude and ignored us for over 30 minutes.

I loved the service here. I was able to walk in and get an eye exam and walk out with my glasses. The man who did my eye exam was the most helpful then where I have gone to before with Kaiser. The staff was very helpful and kind. They have a huge selection of glasses to fit anyone. read more

I wanted to thank Alyse at La Mesa Stanton optical for taking the time to help and educate me on glasses/ frames (based on my high prescription). I've been wearing glasses all my life and had a recent bad experience with some frames I chose wich I ended up returning. I came to La Mesa and Alyse was kind enough to help me until we got it right. I'm excited to get my eyeglass in the next couple of weeks. I even ordered sun glasses and would come again to La Mesa to have Alyse help. Hands down best customer service. My friend introduced me to this place & I couldn't be more grateful...Sincerely! Even from the very start. My walk-in appt turned out to be 2 1/2 hrs after my friend's (sched appt)... While I browsed Daisy asked if I needed anything-then squeezed me in asap without me even asking(!) In the meantime Hillary was extremely helpful to both me & my friend & helped us out in every way, including clueing us in all current promotions-as if their incredible deals weren't already enough! Both of them went above & beyond for us. This review truly pales in comparison to all of the positive things I could go on and on about. I'm aware that it's not uncommon for places to offer buy 1/get 1 glasses deals, etc but this place goes above & beyond that. Eye exam, glasses selection, customer service... you won't be disappointed read more

Went in for an eye exam 10/2020. There was no doctor on site. Exam was done via tech at facility and webcam(?) with provider. I have worn the same script in both eyes for no less than 10 years. At this visit I was told my vision had changed for the better. Turns out the new script was inaccurate and when completed elsewhere, showed it did not change after all. Exam was a waste of time/money. The staff that was on site was kind, curtious, and as helpful as could be. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but I will not be coming back or refering any one. read more

Today my glasses frame broke at the arm. I was near Stanton Optical across from Grossmont center so I went in to see if they could be fixed. Unfortunately the arm was broken at the frame and couldn't be fixed. The manager Alex looked up when I purched them and the model number then walked over and found a replacement frame. He swapped out the frame under warranty in about 5 minutes and I was on my way. What a great experience. Thanks Alex and Stanton. read more

Difficult finding a place for and eye exam on a Sunday. Dropped in and was able to get a through eye exam and fitted for a couple of pairs of glasses. All within just over an hour. Reasonable pricing, decent selection of frames and best part was the staff. Jay and Nina made a typically tedious process enjoyable and convenient. Best part was that I picked up the first (single vision) of two pairs the next day. The progressive pairs gonna take just a few more days to complete. read more

STOP YELLING AT YOUR EMPLOYEES. Every time I come into this business I see an employee getting scolded by a colleague or supervisor. It is extremely unprofessional and has made my experience with Stanton poor and unenjoyable. Not only is it disrespectful to staff, but it represents the company as a whole in a poor manner. To who this may concern, Please have a talk with your team on how to address problems more effectively. read more

I visited Stanton during the week. I was greeted as I walked in the door and after telling the woman I was shopping for glasses, she told me to look around at the frames and when I was ready to have a seat. I waited for about 15 minutes and then met with Alex to get new glasses. He was very friendly and did not try to "up-sell" me anything. He explained each option and then asked me questions about my vision and habits and then made recommendations. I was very pleased with my experience at Stanton and will definitely use them again. The whole process took about 45 minutes. read more

I recently purchased a pair of glasses, using an existing prescription . I did not get the two for special as shown on TV, because I needed the thin polycarb lenses, and knew it would cost more. With my insurance, the final cost was not bad and they were ready in a half an hour. The customer service was good, but feel they should be helping one customer/patient at a time, instead of anyone or everyone that walks in the door. After wearing the glasses awhile, I noticed that they always seemed dirty, and was constantly wiping the lenses. I then put my other pair on, that I'd worn previously and noticed the difference right away. I can't explain what it is, without having them tested, but seems to me the lenses are poor quality or cheaper grade of polycarb. read more

Really helpful in getting myself 3 sets of glasses one to wear regularly, one backup, and sunglasses. By far the best experience I've had obtaining my glasses but when I attempted to get my prescription info I was followed by a bunch of attempts to sell me new frames after I said I don't wish to purchase them. And when I knew my prescription expiration date they tried telling me it was already expired and then they tried to not give me my pupillary distance when I asked for it because it can change over time and is different due to frames. Literally had to have an argument just to get my info that should be provided at no extra expense . read more

My appointment was scheduled for 2:45pm today. I arrived on time and sat around with another patient who was apparently scheduled at the same time, when there was only one staff member to do exams. We were made to wait about 15-20 minutes before being handed the tablet to fill out paperwork. I must have waited at least 40 minutes before actually going in for my first round of exams, and kindly asked the employee if someone was coming to get me started. There was no acknowledgement of the length of time I had just been sitting there. I was then asked to remove my lenses in a room that the other patient had just been in. The table was strewn with paper towels and contact lens solution bottles, and nothing was sanitized between me and the patient using the room. This is completely at odds with what your website states about COVID19 cleaning procedures. I have very high eye pressure (which was documented at the visit today), and nothing was asked of me about this by my doctor. In fact, no one informed me that I would not be able to see a doctor in person, and that the appointment would be by video. The fellow patient informed me on his way out. This is incredibly misleading, and your website should indicate more clearly what the nature of the visit will be. You have this listed under the COVID19 procedures as if this is why you are holding telehealth appointments, but I know now that telehealth appointments have always existed at your branches based on your Yelp reviews pre-COVID. Not having the doctor on site a) did not allow me to ask further questions about my condition, and b) did not allow for immediate follow-up when I was given trial lenses that made me feel quite disoriented. I told the employee in front I felt disoriented after a few minutes, and he said it would be fine and to come back in a week. I have NEVER been told I need to return in a week after a contact lens exam. I have also worn the same brand of contacts everyday my entire adult life and don't even touch glasses, and I have never felt disoriented after an appointment in this way. I should have been able to speak to the doctor right away about what I think was a very faulty prescription. During the test, I kept telling the doctor on video I couldn't see because the lenses kept fogging up due to my mask, but he did not seem to consider how this might impact the test. I got a prescription that was very different than what I currently have, and I am still not feeling quite right. All this being said, the least I wanted was to just get out of there with a prescription. After receiving my trial lenses, I stood around once again waiting for someone to check me out. Again, I had to request that the employee check me out so I could leave because no one was paying attention. I left your center at 4:30pm today, almost two hours later and completely at odds with what your website states, again: "The overall eye exam at Stanton Optical, including your pre-test, takes approximately 25 minutes." On top of that, the employee said I cannot have a prescription because I need to return in 7 days to verify that my trial lenses are okay. Given that there is no doctor on site and no doctor would be conducting this "fitting," this feels like nothing more than an excuse to get the customer back in the door in person to push in-store contact lens purchases. There was no appointment scheduled, nothing was said to me about what this "fitting" would entail, and I was given no paperwork documenting my visit - the goal seems to be just to get me back in, it is not actually about my wellness or my health. My guess is that this "fitting visit" would be one of the employees asking, "Any issues?" and then trying to sell me contacts. This is not a follow-up fitting. This is not okay with me, and again, your website states that the $89 fee includes a prescription. Nowhere does it say a follow-up may be required to receive the prescription. I hope you know that this marketing scheme is common knowledge on the web. From 1-800 Contacts Website: " 'I can't release, the fitting process is not over.' Some eye care providers may tell you they cannot release your prescription to you because you have not completed the fitting process. This is normal for new wearers or when getting fitted with a new type or brand of lens, but it is not normal for consumers who are wearing the same lenses as before and only need a refill. It is also not supposed to be used as a reason for withholding your prescription." I have never had a prescription withheld from me after my contact lens exam, and I believe this is very unethical practice. I am guessing you will recommend I come back in to have another exam, free of charge. I cannot risk sitting around again for 2 hours, receiving an incorrect prescription, and being told yet again I need to come back in for another "fitting" if I want a prescription. I would like to be refunded my $89 and look forward to your response. Thank you. read more

TL;DR: Poor customer service & issues with overcharging, will never be coming back. My husband and I chose to come to Stanton because we wanted more affordable frame options than our previous eye doctor offered. I saw the signs for two pairs for $59 and thought we'd give it a try, so I booked us appointments. My husband showed up for his appointment and was not seen until 30 minutes after his appointment time. He said that when he came in the office was not busy. Because of this, he was crunched for time and decided to come back and shop for frames another day. I came in later the same day and was seen a bit late for my appointment as well. No big deal, they seemed very busy. After my exam, I was able to look at frames with some assistance. I narrowed it down to two frames and thought I was good to go. Here is where it got bad..... The person helping me started using this dry-erase marker on a chart to write up the costs.... turns out that if you come in with insurance, you cannot do the two for $59 deal, but to make up for it, they can discount the second part of frames. Worked for me, so he kept working through the fees. He gives me the total and for ONE pair of frames covered under insurance, the total was over $200. I didn't pick designer frames or anything, so there was no reason for them to be this expensive especially with my insurance coverage. The second, discounted, pair of frames were going to be less expensive than the pair that should have been covered. I ended up passing on buying the second pair because I knew my husband needed to get a pair as well. So much for being less expensive.... I paid and left. Reviewing my receipt the next morning (Friday), I realized that I had been charged for each lens, but my insurance covers 100% of my lenses. I had opted for an anti-glare coating on each lenses and I expected this charge, but they charged me for each physical lens. I called the store told them that I wanted to talk to someone about it, so they passed me to a manager that took down my number and said that he would pull up my receipt and call me back that day. I never heard back from them that day. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I waited. They're open on Saturday, but I never received a call back on Saturday either. I called back Monday morning and asked to speak to the manager I had previously spoken to on Thursday, that he was supposed to call me back the week before, and said that it was regarding an issue of being overcharged. The person I spoke to said that the manager was busy, but he would take down my number and have them call me back. I heard nothing from them. I called back an hour before they closed and spoke to the same person I had spoken to in the morning. This time I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to. The person on the phone told me that he was also a manager and that he could help me. I was incredibly annoyed at this point. When I called earlier and told you the issue, why wouldn't you offer to help me?? Again, he asked for my call back number and said he would call me back..... he actually got back to me right before they closed. He explained that my lenses had been upgraded and that's why I was charged for them because polycarbonate lenses are not covered by insurance. I told him that this was not explained to me and asked if they carried lenses that were covered by my insurance. He said yes, but continued to try and sell me the polycarbonate lenses. I politely told him no, and that I waned a refund for the charge. He agreed and told me to come in the following day. I came in the following day for my refund. The manager that ultimately spoke to me over the phone passed me off to the original manager I talked to. Seriously. I got my refund and left. Never coming back after this infuriating mess. ***UPDATE*** Just got a letter from my insurance stating that they didn't submit my prescription to insurance, which they need to process the claim. Something more to add to the "bad" pile. Hopefully this will get resolved sooner than later.... read more

They are the worst at what they do. It took 1 month to get my original 2 pair deal. Even though they have a 10 day guarantee it means nothing they don't horror it and don't do anything when they don't. Once I got my 2 pairs 1 needed to get sent back. I was moving out of Portland (where I organically started this 2 month process)this is why the guarantee was important to me. I moved out of town with only one pair and had them mail the second. That second was broken I needed to get sent back I was working in EL Paso Texas and went to a Stanton there. Once I got them to order me a new pair, I let them know I'm from out of town and need to get these mailed to me. Fast forward my new pair sat in El Paso for 2 weeks until I have them a call on a Wednesday after checking my order online and finding out they have been ready. Asked them to mail them on Wednesday, shocker they didn't it is now Monday & I had to call back and make sure they mailed them out. Not worth the hassle go anywhere else pay extra across the board they are bad at what the do. read more
