The only thing that saved this visit is our server. She was amazing. The food was bland and overpriced. My over medium eggs were both over and underdone- told was kind of hard and the whites were runny. The hash was canned and definitely not cooked enough. It was just all very mediocre.

We had breakfast here because we were staying at the Ramada next door. There is really nothing much to say about this place. The food and service were alright. The place look spacious and clean. Plenty of parking space.

Stacks Pancake Co. is a true gem that has stolen my heart and delighted my taste buds. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was in for something special. This cozy pancake haven exceeded all of my expectations, leaving me with an delightful brunching experience. First and foremost, the pancakes at Stacks are nothing short of wonderful. They offer an extensive selection of flavors and toppings, each more tempting than the last. Whether you're a classic pancake enthusiast or an adventurous flavor seeker, Stacks has something for everyone. The pancakes are light, fluffy, and cooked to perfection, making each bite a heavenly delight. The portions are more than generous, ensuring that you leave fully satisfied and content. The creativity and attention to detail in their menu is truly commendable. I highly recommend trying their signature Mini Waffle Benny- a combination of sweet and savory. However, I did have food envy of my gal pals' dishes- the Carnitas Benny looked incredible and the GF pancakes were almost too good to be true! And I can't forget to mention their espresso drinks, the whipped cream was what really made them so delicious. The service at Stacks Pancake Co. is fantastic. The staff members are friendly, attentive, and responsive. Our server offered recommendations and honest answers, she was also very helpful accommodating special dietary needs. We had a very nice brunch at Stacks and the prices are quite reasonable, considering the quality and quantity of the food. You get exceptional value for your money, and the experience is worth every penny. This is a place where you can treat yourself without breaking the bank. Stacks Pancake Co. is a pancake lover's paradise. Their delectable pancakes, friendly service, inviting ambiance, and excellent value make it a must-visit destination in Portland, Maine. If you're in search of a memorable breakfast or brunch experience, look no further than Stacks. Prepare to indulge in pancake perfection that will leave you wanting to return again and again.

Just average pancakes and breakfast. Nothing special but service is always pleasant and you don't feel rushed.

    Country breakfast wrap! It's huge

I have a hunch that things have improved here since the first reviews. Because my experience was nothing like any of the one stars I'm reading. Right now when so many restaurants are focusing on tiny menus with very limited options, it's nice to see a full menu. First thing to point out is this is one of the last places you can get a full meal for two under $40. We each got a beverage and a full breakfast including a side and the total was $39 and some change. I got one of the pancake wraps, I believe country breakfast wrap. It was huge. The picture does not do it justice. Flavors were well balanced and the sausage they used was high quality. I do recommend getting syrup for it though, the pancake is very good but just a touch dry. My husband got a Benedict that was equally as huge. The hollandaise was very nice. He also got a side of grits which came in a full meal sized bowl. I took one bite and told my husband that I wanted to come back again! Highly recommend for a less expensive diner breakfast.

Well priced breakfast place, slightly better then an IHOP. Quick and big portions. Lots of different options to choose from.

The SO loves pancakes. I mean, loves pancakes. I'm the "I'll eat palace diner pancakes but no other pancakes" type of person. SOMEONE saw some edgy marketing on Instagram for this new place called stacks. "Where is it?" "On riverside st?" "Is that where the Egg and I was?" "I think so?" So someone had his mind set on trying this new place that was advertising amazing buttermilk pancakes. Confirmed, it is definitely the old Egg and I, but a little edgier. The moment you walk in you know it's a diner. They've got the cake showcase up front, mixed with updated modern cups and pipe shelving. The turquoise and black color combo brings both a retro but up to date feel. There's still booths and the crowd is the same as the old Egg and I, and I'm not sure the menu in reality is that much different. The emphasis on pancakes is heavier, with slightly more unique twists. We ordered a hot chocolate, a peanut butter chocolate stack, and a homemade challah French toast (with blueberry compote and vanilla 'sauce'). Here's the reality: 1. Hot chocolate. It's Swiss miss hot chocolate that came unmixed with a load of whipped cream. 2. Pb and Choco stack. Three giant pancakes with chocolate chips and peanut butter whipped into the batter. Dry, overpowering chocolate, and bland syrup. It was a passionless, lacking of fluff and too little pb pancake. The SO can eat a million pancakes and he could not finish it. 3. The challah French toast: probably was challah? But when it came out it was essentially slathered in icing and blueberry compote/ sauce. It was wayyyyy too much and wayyyyy too sweet. The French toast itself was not bad but I feel cheated that the extra stuff cost an extra 6$ (??) and I couldn't even eat it. The server was super friendly. All the staff were so nice and I definitely felt bad for saying that everything was good. It probably is if you come here with the right expectations. It certainly is diner food and it's great that someone has come in to bring this place back on line. I'm not a breakfast snob but the food just didn't sit well with me. Know that this is a new interpretation of what it was and you will enjoy it as such.

Met and greeted by not one but two friendly welcoming young woman at the entry and we were immediately seated at a very clean table in a nice fresh setting. We ordered for the family and the food arrived quickly and hot and was delicious. Out server was warm and pleasant and provided us with great service. We will definitely return. Thank you Stacks for a great breakfast.

California Omelet - This was a 2 out of 5. The omelet was dry and the chunks of tomato and avocado seemed like it was cooked in a rush. I was pretty disappointed with the "home fries" - which were more like potato slices. It was ok but not was I was expecting. I ordered toasted raisin bread and it was so burnt, it was black. I got a new side of toast but it was somehow still burnt. Overall, the waitress was very nice and the environment was cute. However, the food was lacking which made the experience subpar.

We have been wanting to try Stacks since it opened and I must say for a restaurant attached to a Ramada Inn I was pleasantly surprised at how cute it is and how GOOD the food is! I have not had pancakes this delicious and fluffy in a long time. I ordered the blueberry pancake short stack combo (came with 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon) and my husband got the rodeo chicken wrap which came with SEASONED CURLY FRIES. Sold. There's at least 3 other things on the menu I am looking forward to trying, so we will for sure be making a return trip soon. They also have a wide variety of espresso drinks, smoothies and fresh juice for those wanting to keep things on the lighter side. If you're looking to dig into a hearty breakfast, you may have a hard time deciding because the menu is extensive and there are so many yummy sounding options. I plan on trying the chicken scramble- eggs over diced chicken tenders over home fries with demi glaze and Jack cheese. If you want a reasonably priced breakfast in Portland where you can avoid downtown and lines without sacrificing quality, this is the spot!

Not a bad stop for breakfast. Very big variety on the menu. I had the pulled pork and Mac n cheese in the pancakes. It was good.

It is just literally cut in half and put on top of a grill for maybe a few minutes for the char lines and that's it. Nothing else done to it - they made it sound like it had something else so I'm pretty disappointed in that one. - BUT the chocolate pancake was DELICIOUS. It's like Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix on a pan, in the shape of a pancake, and chocolate frosting/fudge/ganache? On top, with white icing to make the squiggle. Would buy over the muffin tbh. - the chili was swimming with cheese, so if you like that it's for you. My bf couldn't eat his because it was a thick glob of melted cheese every time he lifted his fork. BUT I myself adore cheese so I would've been happy with that. Maybe they can ask customers how much cheese they want? That'd solve that problem. Low/Medium/High levels of cheese?

To start off I enjoyed a Morning Bun Latte while my wife got the Honey & Juniper Latte. Both came out perfect temperature with well done latte art and delicious taste. My wife was obsessed with their pottery mugs that the lattes came served in. Food wise we were looking to split everything and it worked perfectly. We ended up choosing French Toast, Soft Scrambled Eggs, and the Fried Potatoes side. Every dish would be an absolute no brainer for us to order again. Every bite of food kept us wanting even more. Lastly we grabbed a chocolate croissant to go and that was just as tasty and enjoyed it after our visit. After this visit it is certainly a new favorite spot of ours, and look forward to coming back!
