Our first and possibly last time here. Fish was cut very thin and the crust was burnt black. We have never seen or tasted anything like it. Not only did the burnt crust eliminate any fish flavor, that's all we could taste for the rest of the day. Both of us started getting stomach pains on our long drive home and were ill for the rest of the night, unable to eat dinner. We don't know if it was caused by the burnt fish or the coleslaw we only took a few bites of. We are new to the area and drove 45 minutes just to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, the positive reviews and photos on Yelp were only of breakfast, not lunch. The breakfasts that were still being ordered at noon did look good. And staff was friendly and attentive. We considered sending the burnt food back but didn't want to wait another 40 minutes to have it replaced. And the "no whining" sign was not encouraging. So we risked a bad experience and paid a terrible price by eating slivers of a meal that should never have been allowed to leave the restaurant kitchen. We had another incredible breakfast at Chute's yesterday! The server was super friendly & prompt. While some folks don't like the quaint atmosphere, we both love its old, kitschy, roadside feel. That stated, the roadside it sits on makes it a challenge to pull into, & park with little room to comfortably move about in the lot. As well, the bathroom could really do with a complete renovation, bringing it closer to the 21st century. read more

$-$$ Chute's is located in Windham, Maine, where I lived for many years, and now visit. The food is delicious and the staff is fabulous! This restaurant is quaint and clean and totally worth a visit. We arrived at Chute's about 9:30 in the morning and were seated almost immediately. Our server, Karsha, was amazing! She was very attentive, extremely kind, and our food came out piping hot and perfectly ordered. My girlfriend, Kathy, and I sat there for almost 2 hours, and no one seemed to care about the timeframe that we were occupying the table. I would certainly recommend this great breakfast/lunch place to anyone traveling through or staying in Windham. Safe travels!! read more

This was such a cute little family place! Definitely gave old school diner/cafe vibes. The waitlist is a good old fashioned hand written list and you need to stay nearby to get a table. We went on a Saturday morning and only had to wait about 20 mins for a party of three. The servers were super friendly although our server did not come over often enough. I would have wanted my coffee and water filled more than once. The food itself was tasty and delicious. The pancakes here are huge and so fluffy. I got an Irish Benedict which came with a side of home fries. It definitely hit the spot. Creamy hollandaise, perfectly poached eggs, and crispy home fries. I will say you get your bang for your buck here. The prices are unbeatable. It's a perfect spot for a cozy family breakfast or intimate breakfast date. The place is handicap accessible. There is one small bathroom but still handicap accessible. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking. I would definitely come back! read more

They make a wonderful "hobo hash,"and I knew that's just what would hit the spot. Potato, broccoli, cheddar cheese and bacon - a great combo! Chute's is a classic, old-school American breakfast experience. Extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and competent waitstaff, cozy, family atmosphere, and clean restaurant. The food is standard 90s diner fare: omelets, pancakes, eggs with sausages, bacon, toast, etc. and a few fresh baked pastries. This is not the place for fresh fruit, and the cheaper price reflects - generally - cheaper but perfectly good ingredients. I particularly recommend the hashes. read more

It doesn't seem like it would be too much, it's located in a tiny strip mall and isn't too big. Let me tell you what, that makes no difference what so ever. We arrived and were told to take any clean table. We were just two so we choose a small two top along the back wall on the right side. Our waitress had a blue shirt and apron, and was rocking "love" leggings written in many different colors. I wish we'd gotten her name because she was fantastic. Not only was she seating, cleaning tables and taking orders but she was also handling the to go orders on the phone. She was polite, delightful and very busy. The service was spot on, the food was absolutely unexpected. I was not expecting to have one of the best breakfasts I've had in some time. The pancakes were delicious, the bacon perfectly crispy and tasty, and the homes-fries were some of the best yet. They had homemade bread and the biscuits with butter and jelly!! OMG!!! We had a day of shopping planned in Windham and wanted to start with a great breakfast. Chutes Family Restaurant didn't disappoint... fantabulous all the way around!!! Family is right, it feels like you are sitting amongst family and friends. The employees here are very warm, friendly and funny. They are fantastic and fast! We finally "discovered" this place after almost 3 years of being in the area, not sure why it took me so long, especially since many of my Yelp-Elite friends had raved about this location. The food and service did not disappoint and continue to not disappoint. There can be a wait, because this place is popular amongst locals and seasonal visitors. It's a local staple for sure. If there is a wait, be sure to go up to the register and put your name on the clip board - self service hostess stand :) The food is freshly prepared to order and the quantity is pretty impressive. The food, almost flowing off the large plates. No matter what you are in the mood for for breakfast, they have it. Except if you want lunch, that starts at 11am. :) My go to dishes here entail corned beef hash. I always start out reviewing the menu as if I am going actually order something else, but when the server comes to take my order...I get something with hash :) We have tried the HUGE cinnamon rolls as an appetizer and only regretted it, because we were almost full by the time our breakfast came, which doesn't take long. Sausage is delicious - they are sausage patties....YUMMM Eggs - no matter how you like them prepared, they do a great job. Over easy, sunny side up, or scrambled. Never over or underdone. Bacon - delicious from chewy to chewy and crispy. Hash is always moist and delicious with big tender chunks of potatoes. The toast options are pretty great too. They have home made english muffins, toast (wheat, white, raisin, Texas - those are the ones we have tried). All delicious. We make it a point to stop here for breakfast whenever we can. Amazing food and great service. We always get extra so we can take some home. Can I say horrible experience and food? We went to Chute's on a Sunday morning for breakfast before going to the wildlife center in Gray. Just trying to get someone's attention to get on the seating list took forever. They're more interested in answering the phone instead of addressing the long line at the counter. And forget getting any attention if a local came in because that would spark a long conversation. A 15 minute wait in line to get our names on the list, told it would be a 20 minute wait for our table, was actually 45 minutes. If you're lucky, you get an uncomfortable seat and get to watch everyone eat at their tables. The atmosphere is pure chaos. The waitresses are running and sweaty and look completely harassed. Finally got our breakfast order in and was looking forward to a nice meal. My cheese and mushroom omelette was a dried out mess, my toast was burned, just horrible. They boast that they serve Maine's best breakfast. That's the biggest lie!! read more

Once inside a typical humble diner with reasonably good food and service, although our waitress had a very sour look on her face as if she was having a tough day, or indigestion. This place is hash brown heaven! It's seriously delicious so don't let the modest exterior and interior take away from the fact it's really delicious food and super friendly staff! We had a super fluffy Omlette with to die for hash browns and the breakfast platter. One kid had chocolate chip pancakes, other one had eggs and cowboy toast.
