Since we were running the checkout we had to help ourselves to drink cups too. Not specific to this restaurant, but typical for the Panera Bread restaurants: soup in a bread bowl doesn't have much soup in it. Almost $4.00 drinks is a bit much too. Our take out order was a disaster. First, when we went in to pick up our order we were ignored by 2 employees who were too busy talking about their previous night. When we asked about our order and the fact it was not ready we were snapped at that it wasn't ready and would have to wait, they had several large orders.. Second, when we got home we were missing two of our egg soufflés. When we called back we were told the oven to bake the soufflés had been broken for weeks. What! You charge us for a product you can't produce and then don't say anything. The employee said they would credit our Visa. What a joke and waste of time. Oh how the mighty have fallen. My last review was 14 years ago and I wish it was the same food quality and service. Sadly, it is not. We went around 8:30 AM. Bagel flavor selection seemed slim; turns out they dropped 3 popular flavors (sesame was mine). Two small coffees please - NOPE - "we don't have small coffees anymore". So we ordered 2 mediums and 2 bagels and cream cheese. Bagels were incredibly dry - when were they made, yesterday? 2 Coffee carafes were empty and they brought out "new" ones - Luke warm. I always get the same order at Panera and I was SO excited for my half Napa almond chicken salad and half Fuji apple chicken salad. My husband and I had a 56.00 order this morning. We were paying with a 100.00 bill. They have a policy of having the manager review any 50.00 or 100.00 bills before taking them. The manager comes looks at it and tells us it's counterfeit. We got the 100 bill from the bank yesterday! He said the numbers, lettering, and picture was not normal. He also said we needed to get the bill verified at the bank! My husband said we got the bill from the bank yesterday! Again the manager said we should take it back to the bank and have it verified! Since the bank issued it I doubt it would be counterfeit. A good amount of businesses usually use a special marker to authenticate bills. Why was this not done here? We gather every Monday to play cards and eat. The older staff is very rude and have no social manners. You would think if you ate breakfast and lunch there every week there would be some type of acknowledgment and appreciation to see us! There was one staff member who always took the time to make sure we didn't need anything. She is no longer at this location. The place is always extremely cold. You would think when we're wearing gloves and heavy winter clothes they'd want to make sure we were comfortable. My grandparents eat here every morning for breakfast, and I usually tagalong with them once a month. There are bagels and breakfast sandwiches are always consistently good. Occasionally my husband and I I will stop by here in the evening for a sandwich. My only knock is that overall it's not worth the price for sandwiches. The app lets me order quickly and easily. My gripe is the cost and satisfaction. For lunch for me, sandwich, small tea, cookies I can't get out for less than $14-15 bux. I'm always surprised by the expensiveness for the food. It's really really good food and pretty healthy too. It's worth it but still high imho. I ordered a Baja Bowl with chicken which is a cold bowl of chicken some vegetables and frozen avocado quarters and rice with quinoa (small rice with black spots). I ate half of the bowl when I was just mixing things up when one of the black spots started moving. Looking closer it was a very small bug crawling around the bowl. I took the bowl to the cashier and showed her the bug when she asked if it was a gnat. I said I don't think so, it was smaller and no wings. She told me to throw it away which I did. I would have made a bigger deal out of it but I didn't feel like if I ordered anything from here it would be any better and have more bugs. It was on Wednesday (05/04/23) I ordered a chicken noddle soup ( a bowl size- around 8 dollars ) and got served with a whole bowl just broth with 2 pieces of chicken, 2 pieces of carrot and 4 pieces of mini noodles. I stand by the main points of my earlier review: I still cannot find a better value in bread or coffee in the Edwardsville area. I think the salads, soups, and sandwiches are tasty and nutritious. Seasonal changes are made to keep the menu from getting too boring. I've registered for the "my panera" rewards program, and occasionally get a free item. Wireless Internet is easy to access. The customer service here is always friendly, and efficient most times of the week, except perhaps late on Sundays. My only significant complaint and caution is about the parking. The already undersized lot was made even more difficult to negotiate with the recent addition of a drive-through window. At particularly busy hours, consider parking at the nearby Dierbergs. read more

I think Panera's is a great place to find foods you like, but I was in the store this morning when it opened at 7am to be horrified by something I saw. I have seen how the pastries and other items to purchase are behind an open display. What I have never noticed is how flies sit and crawl on the food. I was looking forward to having one of my favorite pastries this morning with coffee. I was disgusted at the idea that I could've eaten one in the past that flies were crawling all over. It would be an easy fix if they would just put a cake dome over the items to protect customers from contracting an illness and/or germs from a fly or another insect from crawling all over them! I had to run some errands today, so I decided to treat myself to lunch at the St. Louis Bread Co. I always enjoy going there and I love the chicken noodle soup and Caesar Salad and of course the bread! Today I got the Bravo Bacon Turkey sandwich with Caesar salad. To my surprise when I checked out today, they now ask if you want to leave a tip. What's up with that? I mean, come on. I have to find myself a table. Then I have to go get my own drink, then go to the counter to get my food. When I'm done eating, I have to clean up after myself. What exactly am I tipping for? lol That kind of irked me a little, but whatever. Now about the drink station. While I was there, everyone kept reaching over me to get a straw or napkin, like I wasn't even standing there. Come on people, have some manners. Wait your turn please! Sheesh. The GM is a monster. I've heard so many awful things about this place and people in edwardsville are now starting to boycott it. Panera needs to get their values straight because the way they lead is obviously not working for them. Recently saw that the GM wouldn't let a worker take the day off to go to his fiancé's oncology appointment (they just recently found out she had cancer). What kind of human being does that? I don't support management like that and will also be boycotting this place. I hope HR sees this and does something about the dynamic in that store. If tons of workers over the years have voiced that they were treated poorly, then y'all really dropped the ball. I feel bad for people who work at this location. read more

Also, a minor complaint, they will not put cream cheese on your bagel for you, so if you are looking for a fast breakfast to eat in the car, get something else. Might be a health code thing, not sure. Do not recommend the tours at all. Took my girl scout troop to the Collinsville, Il location and the safety measures were horrible resulting in one girl being burned(not terribly, but still painful). Our 1 hour tour ended up being 3 hours because they did not have all the ovens on and the 19 girls made bread and had to wait for them to cook 4 at a time while they cooked for the restaurant. I went to pick it up and there were handwritten signs on the windows saying "Drive-Thru Only". The drive-thru has been closed for 2 years. I got dumped in this Panera. Girl broke my heart after I payed for her scone (she said it was good). Their coffee was good, I think. Very friendly atmosphere. I was talking to one of my co-workers about where he should get dinner and I mentioned Bread Co. and he said one of the best things I've heard someone say about bread co. "Well, I don't feel like spending a whole bunch of money for a little amount of food" Yes, their food is great, the bread is wonderful, the free Wi-fi is fast, it's pretty healthy (except for being a carb overload most of the time), but from the perspective of the poor college student, I just do not go to bread co that often because it's so dang expensive. Ok, now that I've stepped off my soap box, bread co is wonderful, but they still get 3 stars from me. They do a lot of great things, like making their bread fresh, in house, donating old bread to food pantries at the end of the day. I just don't like their prices.
