It always bums me when I have to remove a star from a local business. My last three visits to Teaspoon Cafe have not been what it use to be. However, the people of Edwardsville still love Teaspoons, because it was packed. Things that disappointed me on my last visit that made me decide to take a star away: They are now serving Kaldi's Coffee a STL roaster. I think it is a shame that they are not supporting one of the many local roasters on the Illinois side of the river. Was disappointed that their iced coffee lids were not sip lids. I prefer them, because I am not a fan of straws. I know some people need or prefer straws, but I like the option of not using one. Save the Turtles. Biggest disappointment was my food. I ordered the Breakfast Platter. My scrambled eggs were fluffy and hot and made fresh. They were very good. The English Muffin was also good. It was obvious it was freshly toasted, because the whipped butter spread and melted easily. The disappointments were the bacon and potatoes. Both were cold and tough. It was obvious that both sides were prepared ahead of time. The bacon did have good flavor, but it was chewy and rubbery. My potatoes were on the burnt side of preparation and cold and chewy like the bacon. Damn, when I've ordered this before it was good, not this time. I will at least say, the service and customer service is still good and consistent with what I've had before. Which actually saved them from getting two stars. read more

LOVE teaspoons. It's such an underrated tea room in the area. Way better prices than the local tea rooms in stl, but not the traditional experience. Every tea I've ever had here has been off the charts. They have caffeine free options, too! The teapot for two is excellent. I am a sucker for a pick two because I like a lil diversity. The ceasar salad is great. Big fan of the teaspoon pesto sandwich. My partner raves about the chicken croissant and always gets a side salad with olive oil. The workers are nice. Its seat yourself with a number and they clear the table when you're finished. Easy place to bring kids. Plenty of options for seating! Personally love the booth option. read more

Nice little spot off 157. Near SIUE campus. I've had their breakfast burrito few months back and it was very good. This time I came back for hot coffee and a bagel. Bagel was really good. I didn't realize it was more of a restaurant vibe than a coffee shop vibe so it did get a little loud but that's okay! My gooey pecan roll and chai latte were really good. You can order online or in the store. They had a pretty large menu but breakfast food is only served until 11am. This is a cute little spot to grab a lite bite to eat and a coffee or tea. They are a little pricey for what you get, but it's a nice splurge sometimes. Really wanted to like this place. Shows it because it was one of the only places that had the fresh cut home fries versus the shredded hash browns. Cute decor we placed our order and got the worst looking clearly old shriveled up potatoes. Looked nothing like the previous pictures of other diners. We told the young lady to give the opportunity to fix it and told her that we picked this place because of the Yelp reviews and the pictures and fresh potatoes and these seemed old. Her only response is that's odd we use fresh potatoes everyday. Never offered to switch it out fix it anything so left with no other option but to leave this review. It's too bad that they don't understand freshness and if a customer has a problem remake it. I've been going to Teaspoons Cafe for many years now, and I was shocked to realize I had not posted a review of it yet. This is going to be a lengthy review, so the short of it is: If you've never been before, go for lunch, try the half soup & half sandwich (see below for recommendations) with an iced tea. You will have a delicious lunch with friendly service, and my bet is that you will also have a new place to frequent. But if you want more detail, read on. I don't believe you can go wrong here. I have enjoyed everything I've tried, so I will focus on some of my favorites. First off, the soups. Each day is a different soup, which you can find on their website. Their vegetable soup and their chicken noodle soup taste so flavorful and fresh; I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but they have a clean, almost refreshing, taste that you don't get at chain cafes. My favorite soup, however, is the creamy potato. Bright, delicious, and not too heavy. Let's backtrack to breakfast. In all honesty, I have not tried a ton of the breakfast options, because I cannot stop ordering the Breakfast Burrito. I am not typically a disciple of breakfast burritos, but the green chili stuff that comes on the side makes this burrito one of my favorite breakfasts. As far as their pastries and baked goods go, the cinnamon roll (you can have them heat it up or take it unheated for later) and the white chocolate cranberry scone are delectable. For lunch, my top picks are the Chicken BLT, which I argue needs no T, and the Chicken Salad sandwich (this is a little creamy and messy, but ultimately delicious). If you're feeling a salad, it's got to be the Seasonal with the house poppy seed dressing (my mother is hooked on this dressing). The other salads are good, but that dressing is hard to pass up. Finally we get to tea. I am a tea lover. When I'm eating a meal I prefer my tea iced, so that's how I typically go here. They have a good selection of teas, along with some rotating seasonal teas. I enjoy trying new teas; if you're uncertain tell them what you typically like and ask for a recommendation. I have mostly done to-go orders over the past two years, so I'm not super familiar with the current staff. In pre-pandemic times, however, I was always so impressed with their employees (some are still there). They're friendly, efficient, conversational, and it was always a delight to chat with them when they weren't busy. My experience with the current staff, while minimal, has always been pleasant. The only downside to this place, and it feels like such a small thing compared to how great the food and service are, is that the aesthetic isn't particularly inviting. The inside is fairly bland, the chairs and tables are pretty basic; I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable, but I also wouldn't say it's comfortable. Although once you taste your food you probably won't really be thinking about your surroundings. Logistics: There's a parking lot in front; it can get crowded, but I've never had to wait more than a minute or so for a spot. When you get there, head up to the counter to order. If you're ordering for dine-in, they'll give you a number to put on your table. You can order to-go ahead of time by either calling or using their online ordering; I've done both with no issue. read more

[As of June 26, 2021] Teacups Cafe: another great eatery to visit right here in Edwardsville. Easy to get to. A lot of parking is available but a spot may be hard to come by during busy hours. RESTAURANT: This cafe is quite spacious with a good amount of seating. Be cautious during busy times because seating can get scarce real quick. I feel as though a few more tables could be added. Decor is minimal but in good taste and not distracting. STAFF: From the two baristas to the one bus boy, the workers were very pleasant and hardworking. Despite the constant flow of customers, they were managing the orders and food serving well. I believe a fourth person on the floor could speed up the service. FOOD: If you are in the mood for more than just some orange juice with your breakfast, order yourself a tea, latte, or smoothie. Teaspoons Cafe has their own coffee bar. If you fancy something sweet, they even make fresh, baked goods everyday! The wife decided to sip on a chai latte while I guzzled down some simple orange juice. He munched on a Gooey Pecan Bun while we waited for our breakfast. Very well made. The right amount of sweet with the right amount of caramelized pecans. I've enjoyed breakfast and lunch at Teaspoons, and think most coffee drinkers can't do much better than their Kaldi's brews. However, on a curbside pickup, which is a current focus of my reviews, I was not favorably impressed. I ordered curbside pickup on the "Toast" app, and as instructed by the app, phoned the number when I arrived. Two calls separated by five minutes went unanswered. Patience is not one of my strengths at lunchtime, so I decided to go inside. Unfortunately, I was directly behind four other customers in a what appeared to be a single party, no masks, who conversed with one another while figuring out their order. I understand you can't wear a mask while eating, but most places I visit these days expect me to wear a mask while standing in line to order. To their credit, the staff was masked. When I finally had my turn at the counter, I explained my situation, and was told to pick up my order over on the carryout counter. As I exited, I looked around - no sign or posting about safety procedures. While my meal was fine, I drove away rather frustrated by my unsuccessful attempt to use curbside pickup. Perhaps "Toast" does not allow business users to distinguish between "curbside pickup" and "carryout." Perhaps there's been too much pushback by customers about safety procedures, and the staff is tired of trying. Perhaps this is a situation in which I should follow the sympathetic template, "... but I understand this is a new operation for them." I'll probably go back someday for breakfast or lunch. But, based on my recent experience, I doubt I'll make a second attempt at Covid-19-safe curbside pickup. read more

We were looking for a non-chain place in the area for lunch before our long day ahead. This place got good reviews so we figured why not? We were not disappointed. They do need to change thier logo for those us us older folks who have a hard time reading store front names while driving. We ordered and sat. It was a cold, blustery day and unfortunately the only table left was near the door. THAT is why I can't give it 5 stars. The inclement weather influenced how fast we ate and how comfortable were were while there. Maybe look into putting in a doorway or something? I ordered a Teaspoon Sandwich, my daugter and her friends ordered The Club and a kids Grilled Cheese. We all really enjoyed the food. I though the taste combinations on my Teaspoon were wonderful. The kid who ordered the Grilled Cheese thought it was "really, really good and could eat another." The club was also a hit.
