I've been here a few times and have really loved it, usually I like to sit a little bit if I have time, it's usually very quiet and nice inside. I had a few errands so I was satisfied to grab a few things to start my day! I usually get the hot mocha, it was out very fast! Service is always amazing, they bring your drink right out to you & never get your order mixed up. Less than 5 minutes I got my drink, super delicious if you ever get the chance to try I also got a new food items, the pecan sticky bun & raspberry muffin looked too good to resist! I'm also a big fan of the 'day old pastries box' because I do try to cut costs when I can it's only $7 & I love the idea of getting a surprise! They're always delicious and taste like they were made that morning. I can tell they use real, quality ingredients for their food. I have issues sometimes with gluten and certain processed breads, but I really enjoy being able to have something sweet without all the extra junk! I got out with spending about $25, pretty good deal and better quality than most places! I like to support small/individual businesses when I can, I really believe you do get a better experience and product. You can tell they make their products with lots of love! - The Staff were super nice: I got a limited experience talking to them but they weren't rude to me or anyone else i saw order. Good smiles and nice words! they also brought my drink out to me where i was sitting! - The Drink was great: i got the Iced Butter Pecan Latte with dairy milk and Vanilla Cold Foam. Within the last month, Sacred Grounds has had a change in ownership. For some that is sad news, but the good news is that the new owners so far have been keeping the same high quality service and products. My recent visit was to take part of Javapalooza being sponsored by Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau. When it's warm outside, I enjoy my coffee iced. My go to is, Vanilla Honey Latte with whole milk. If you're having a latte, why not go whole hog and enjoy that whole milk. The rich fullness of whole milk, adds to the flavor. Looking at their pastry case, it was hard for me to choose. However, once my eyes saw the Pizza Scone, I wanted a savory treat over a sweet. The scone was full of flavor, but a little on the dry side. After a couple bites, the dryness did not bother me, because the flavor was so good. Cute and cozy coffee spot in downtown Edwardsville. Our meals were delicious although the kid at the counter had a little trouble working out what I needed to stay on plan. I ended up paying for food I could not eat. All I wanted was a gluten-free bagel as the bread for my avocado toast ($9), but they up-charged me to the bagel sandwich ($17) which had bacon and cheese that I cannot eat (despite telling him no meat!). My dirty chai was suspiciously sweet even tho I asked about sugar and was told there wasn't any. The food was good but if you have food sensitivities just know it may take a little patience and double checking to make sure they get your order correct. We also found it to be a bit pricey. We were driving back from St.Louis and wanted a quick coffee and muffin. We stopped in downtown Edwardsville to Sacred Grounds as it stated online they offer gluten free items. This is a cute coffee house filled with local art serving breakfast and lunch items. Unfortunately it was a Monday and they did not have any gluten free items. My wife just had a coffee which she said was very good and I had an Orange Creme muffin. Very fresh with pieces of fresh orange. Every time I visit Edwardsville, I stop by here and I try to come on a weekend to try their quiche of the day and I am not disappointed!!! So yummy in my tummy! When I first tried their quiche and it came with a yogurt I was like WHY?!?? But then I tried it and was like --YES, YES, YES!! Our first time here and it was an absolute triumph. Our group had three people with one vegetarian. We ordered omelets and a "short" stack of pancakes. Beware, a single pancake is more than an inch thick and the size of a dinner plate! My husband and I shared them and barely got to the halfway mark! The omelette was incredible, also. I got the vegetarian one and my MIL got one with prosciutto, spinach and mushrooms. The eggs were fluffy and perfectly cooked - not a brown spot or burned edge anywhere. The cappuccino was great, too! This is a cafe where you order at the counter and they'll bring out the food to you. It worked just fine for us. My MIL was able to get a cup of coffee and put exactly the amount of creamer she wanted into the mug she selected. We went about 12:30 on a Sunday and it wasn't packed, just a nice amount of customers. The ambiance is really peaceful and calm, especially if you like brick walls, music, and local art on display. Sacred is an Edwardsville institution. I popped in this morning on my way to work. I was in and out in just a few minutes, and it may be one of the best drinks I've ever had. I ordered the Dirty Nana iced, dirty chai that tastes like banana bread and a piece of the blackberry cinnamon cake. 20/10, no notes. The cake was perfect - not overly sweet and very moist (ugh, I know, but there's no better adjective). Their pastry case was filled with goodies and if I'd paid more attention, I would've picked up a box of day-old stuff too. The service was fast and friendly. The space is clean and cozy - perfect for a coffee date, studying, or meeting up with friends. Their selection of tea is also incredible and I'm anxious to try some on my next trip. A neighborhood favorite! I have been coming here since their first opening and it has gone through many owners since then. The place traditionally house local grounds such as Mississippi Mud and Goshen, and each owner always has something new to add to the pot. Mark and Christie are no different, bringing with them the modern vibes, bright decor, and chef-inspired pastries and snacks. On top of that, the interior has a noticeable touch-up with padded cushioning for the seats, extra plugs for students and busy professionals, and warm heaters. I believe this place will continue to flourish for years to come and if nothing else, the old crowd still comes in once in awhile to settle, play chess, strum on the guitar and enjoy a good banter, and occasionally indulge in some good-old nostalgia over brunch, which btw, is still there, thanks to Katie's efforts. :) read more

I went again for breakfast this time. (7/9/2025) I got avocado egg toast. It was amazing. The serving was enough for two! The egg toast included arugula, eggs made your way, avocado, garlic aioli, some sesame seeds, and optional meat protein (I opted out of the protein). It came with a side of yogurt and berry compote. Oh wow! This is an amazing find. We are in town for the weekend and are hearty breakfast eaters. We got the eggs Benedict, breakfast burrito, pork belly and grits and eggs with greens. Amazing muffins. Fresh blueberry yogurt. We got this as carryout and it took a bit for it to be prepared, so a call-in order would be the good way to go. That being said, Alec was pleasant. I went here with my "coffee group" girls (4 of us) on a Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago. First glance, it was a cool spot with a good vibe and some local art (which I'm a sucker for). We went up to order at the counter. I got an everything bagel sandwich and a latte. The latte was pretty average- not crazy good or bad. The sandwich was excellent. I didn't think it was too crowded, we went in and got a table right away. But our service was exceptionally slow. I was trying to remain positive because this wasn't my choice, but all of us were looking around waiting for our food and trying to decide if we should go up and look for it or not. We all got different things, and they all came out at different times, so we didn't really eat together. Even our drinks took a while to come out which is odd for a coffee spot. Overall, the food was enjoyed by all and the coffee was good, but I would probably not return on my own due to the service experience. read more

I wanted to like my experience more than I did. We went in for some breakfast on a Saturday morning. There were definitely people, but there were also a lot of empty tables and not a super long line. What we ordered: we ordered a half hour before we needed to leave. All we got was a wrap and avocado toast (and both come w a side of fruit). I get that maybe they had a lot of take out orders, but they were so horribly slow getting our food out. I ended up having to tell them to put it in a to go bag because we ran out of time. Also- I get that if you are sitting down to eat, sometimes it takes longer. But that's the whole point of going to a cafe- order at the counter+no table service= generally the food is faster. I left with a stomach ache and disappointment. I am not from Edwardsville but I was going to be near Edwardsville for a work meeting. Of course, I yelped a good coffee shop to do some work from before my meeting. I got there a little after it opened at 7:00a. They apparently don't start serving breakfast until "8:30 or so". There were 3 crummy looking scones in the display counter. I bargained on a cheese and herb scone. I ordered a latte with Oatmilk, but they were out of Oatmilk, so I went with almond milk. The scone tasted like it had been made more than a week ago. It was hard and just not good. I choked it down knowing a I had a full day, boy did I regret that. Luckily, they do have public bathrooms. The latte was one of the worse I have ever had. In fact, I left it sitting outside the bathroom as a sacrifice to the coffee gods. As far as a work environment, there was no one else in there - so quiet. But no wi-fi password posted, so I used my hotspot. Overall, my experience was terrible. I do not recommend. Would rather have had McDonald's. This place has some work to do. read more

New ownership for a few years; new attitude about service. We came in a few months back and wanted something that would need to be cooked in the kitchen (wasn't under the display case). Place was half full but were told it would be 45 minutes. We passed. Today I came in and ordered a scone (tasty) and a young lady came in at 8:20 and wanted something from the kitchen. The owner, who had been visiting with somebody, told the barista "the kitchen wouldn't open until 8:30." She finally sauntered back to the stove and started prepping whatever the young lady ordered. But she still had time to walk outside and visit with other acquaintances. The poor girl was very patient and finally walked up to the counter and told the barista to make the order "to go" because she had to leave by 9:00. Her food finally came out a few minutes after 9:00. I'd be surprised if she ever comes back. There were no other orders ahead of hers. Final verdict: decent coffee, nice selection of scones and muffins, but if you want something from the kitchen and are in a hurry - fugidaboutit! read more

My partner and I visited Sacred Grounds for the first time yesterday, Saturday. We got there about 12.30PM planning to have lunch. The menu is small and they were just serving their breakfast items. I asked a member of staff what was on the bagel sandwich and was told to read the menu. I had to borrow my partner's reading glasses, which was no big deal, but the staff member could just have been more friendly and told me. We were told they did not have any avocado left for the bagel sandwich and also they were out of the biscuits and gravy. So you need to get there early if you want the full choice of food. I decided on the vegetable quiche which came with greek yoghurt and fruit compote. They were both good. I got a medium Lattee and that was close to $5. Coffee is expensive these days! There was food on the floor around some of the tables. Also, my partner said the men's bathroom was dirty. Then you worry about the state of the kitchen. The staff need to be more proactive about cleaning the bathrooms and seating area. Sacred Grounds was okay. I probably would not go back. read more

Nutshell: Cool, calm, collected cafe; good coffee; good prices and staff. I'd recommend a stop in if your running around the area. I don't make it over to Edwardsville very often, but I biked up on a Sunday morning to meet a friend for brunch. I was super early, so I jumped across the street to grab a pre-game cup of coffee. I hooked up my bike and walked in (fyi, there is a very convenient bike loop outside the cafe). This is covid times, so there were no tables inside, and the space looked huge. I loved the decor and all the art. It's a very chill and welcoming space. The fellas behind the counter were really nice and answered my questions about some of their roasts. I went with their middle size seasonal maple roast drip coffee, mingled with some milk. The total was less than $3. I grabbed a table outside and soaked in the sun on a beautiful fall morning. The coffee was splendid. It was mapley without being overpowering or artificial tasting. This is my kinda cafe, so I'll be back. read more

Very good coffee is the rule here, rivaled in E'ville only by Artisan 222's Goshen Coffee. At Sacred Grounds, they serve "Mississippi Mud" brand, like you find at The Mud House, STL. Across the street at Artisan 222, they serve "Goshen Coffee," also found at Pi, STL. Hmmm, I smell a bout brewing between "champion" and "challenger," a java-tasting "Thrillah-in-E'villah." But before I schedule that, more on today's sandwich, the Sicilian Panini: portabella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil pesto. I opened it up to see it was made with care. The veggies were clean, carefully sliced, included beautiful ripe tomato, with a modest amount of pesto (if I ordered it again, I think I'd ask for more). The sourdough was a little soft for me, but grilled up with beautiful griddle marks, which may be the reason they use it. There's a pleasant quirky quality to Sacred Grounds that contributes to its appeal. For instance, today's order was identified not by a number or my name, but instead by a pair of green binoculars that I was given to place on my table.
