This place is terrible. The owner does not care about his customers. They speed cooked the beef for less than one minute each side so it was cooked rare. The pajeon and japchae were extremely greasy. We had 10 people, I asked for plates and he only gave 6 people plates. They charged 20% gratuity and included the tip within the subtotal so he charged tax on the gratuity amount. He paid us back in cash but he is sneaky and dishonest. The pajeon sauce is just watered down soy sauce. This place is not authentic Korean at all. Owner is also nicer to Korean customers. read more

Once and done. I've been there, tried it, and was not thrilled all around. Not for me. Food: hit or miss. Some good some bad. Nothing screaming, wow, I must come back. Stay away from those bibimbap, tasted weird. That japchae was too mushy for me. Service: When we said we wanted to order an additional dish later, we were told to order now because they will be too busy later. ( The restaurant was empty, and another group came in a while later...the restaurant wasn't full and no lines when we left.) We were also told the amount of food we ordered won't be enough. It was beyond enough. Ambiance: Meh Mandatory 22% tip on meal plus taxed on the tip portion. The problem is the receipt said 20% included for groups 6 or more after 10pm. The receipt also says parties 8 or more will reflect a 22% tip. We were 10 people. It was 7:13pm when the bill was presented. It's not 10pm yet. Confusion here. ssam tong then collect taxes on the TIPS because it's a mandatory tip. I interpret it as before 10pm it's a voluntary tip. Note to self: Never come back. We stopped in based on social media reviews and shall stay away based on personal experiences. You go pay those prices. We went to Ssam Tong during COVID. If you're like me you're probably wondering what it's like to dine outside during covid and let me tell you that Ssam Tong did not disappoint. Let's start with all the COVID technical things - there was a hand sanitizer bottle on each table. No indoor dining. Bathroom was available for use but only 1 person (excluding workers) with a mask on was permitted inside at a time which is smart because of social distancing. So they were definitely taking the precautions. LOVED that they served their side dishes in disposable containers to help keep safety measures. Now on to the service. You would never remember that the waiters were in their 30s or 40s because they were vibing with us, encouraging my friends to continue drinking, and overall were just very chill people. They played a lot of EDM that definitely added to the vibes! They gave us drinks and seafood pancake on the house which was so nice of them (they knew we were celebrating my friend's birthday). They also held our cake for us and played happy birthday for my friend while lighting the candle at the end of the night. 10/10 service. The food - we got the most expensive combo meal shared amongst the 8 of us and we were all incredibly full. The highlights were definitely the marinated galbi (both the spicy and non spicy). The meat was very tender, incredibly juicy, and perfectly marinated. The only qualm I had was that the "spicy" and non-spicy were pretty much the same. The spicy version in my opinion wasn't spicy at all but just more seasoned. As someone who loves spice, this was a bit of a let down. The other part that you should know is that this will not be a cheap meal - granted I believe the quality and service was definitely worth the price but don't be surprised when you get the bill. Still highly recommend you checking this place out! Dining in the time of COVID-19. I was craving for Korean BBQ after watching too many kdramas during quarantine, so when I stumbled upon Ssam Tong, I was super excited to see that they offered outdoor seating. As other reviewers have mentioned: - spaced out table seating - hand sanitizers on every table - every employee wears a mask The restaurant recommends reservations for parties with 4 or more, but because we were only 3, we didn't need reservations. We ate here on a Saturday around 5:30PM, and there were still tables available. As the night went on, though, the tables were all full, so make reservations JIC! Also, this restaurant is surrounded by other Korean restaurants who also provide outdoor seating, so you forget for a split second as you're walking by tables that you're eating during a pandemic because everyone there is just having a good time and enjoying great meals. Speaking of meals, because we craved so much, we ordered so much. We got the thinly sliced combo (prime beef brisket, duck, and pork), which also came with steamed egg and a mini vegetable soon du bu, japchae, and seafood bibimbap. And it was so much fun! All of the typical side dishes came in plastic containers, and they give refills. The dishes were served on a mix of aluminum foil and plastic containers, but we each had our own sturdy plates (see photos). All around amazing! I was served by the owner and he was super nice and casual, cracking jokes while cooking for us. The meats were ultra high quality and my party of 4 were all full from ordering the marinated and marinated prime beef combo. A diverse set of banchan was also provided too. Only downside is that it is quite pricey but that's to be expected from having quality food and also staff that's servicing your food. The owner was also kind enough to hand me a free birthday/Ssam tong shirt that his wife made so that was pretty cool! We have been here for years. Their bbq is a lot cheaper than K-town and quality is great. The beef, pork, duck combo came with a bowl of bean paste soup for like $60. The appetizer small plates were all really good, and they were tradition enough to keep on supplying them, without asking!! Compares to some famous k-town Korean bbq restaurants where are not as good in this, this is one of the top reasons we keep coming back for more. We just came in for drinks but due to the new law we had to order an appetizer and decided to get wings which were really good and they came with a sauce on the side that was a bit on the spicy side but really enhanced the flavor of the wings. The social distancing will only allow four people to a table with a plastic divider in between each table which divided the group a bit but socializing was still doable. We ordered their soju. We got one type that was a ginseng flavor and another that was raspberry flavored. Really can't complain about my experience here the staff was very hospitable one thing to keep in mind is that there is a limit to how many people cards they can divide the bill amongst which I am almost certain is two. I was here last week and let me tell you. Their meat is too good! They don't use frozen meat and you can read this on their website. Their meat is NEVER frozen and it comes out FRESH. Trust me and order 2 orders of each meat. I went with a group of 6 people and it melted in my mouth. Exceptional Korean BBQ. My husband and I really loved our experience here. It's a small place, which is why they have a time limit (and they do not accept reservations for parties under four). The time limit did concern us, but the servers and runners are SO efficient and manage to keep things moving without making you feel rushed or stressed. We had three different people attending to us and they were all so nice and accommodating. The place definitely has a mom and pop type of feel (yet they were playing Eminem and 50 Cent all night, which was pretty fun, although my parents may not think so if I take them here). The meat combos automatically come with egg jjim and daenjang jigae, both of which were delicious. The daenjang jigae has more of kick than others, which I loved. They also offer a solid banchan spread, with seasoned seaweed, spicy bean sprouts, various pickled radishes, kimchi, fish cake, etc. The meats were all perfectly cooked and the marinated ones were really well balanced. Having eaten close by a number of times before I always walk past and see a decent crowd. I finally made the decision to drag T.H. out for a meal here just this past Sunday for Korean Thanksgiving (Chuseok). While the restaurant itself didn't have any particular specials for this holiday, the restaurant was still full and smelled great. We ended up as a party of 5 as a few of T.H.'s friends decided to tag along. We ordered the unmarinated beef combo, the pork combo, seafood soondubu, and a nengmyun (cold noodles). The unmarinated beef came with brisket, tongue, flank steak, short rib, and ribeye. Meanwhile the pork combo came with pork belly, pork jowl, and a pork chop served with grilled onions. I can definitely report that the meats were not only delicious but also were well cooked by the staff. They did a good job cracking jokes with us and making sure all our side dishes stayed replenished. Hilariously, our waiter kept on referring to the soju and beer as waters. Before each meat combo is cooked, they also bring it out and you can view the entire platter. The soondubu was flavorful and not too spicy. It also didn't give too much of the msg aftertaste and phlegm that I often get after eating at BCD. The seafood itself was fresh and the tofu was perfect. The nengmyun was made with arrowroot noodles instead of buckwheat which made them easier to eat though I missed the chewy texture. The broth for the nengmyun was a little sweet for my taste but like normal, the addition of mustard and vinegar went a long way to correct the flavor. So why only 4 stars? The food was delicious, the service was great. I like going a second time to confirm greatness! But also, I need to go and order some of the other dishes. Their website advertises that they make all their own broth and while I had a taste with the soondubu, I'd love to confirm its deliciousness with yukhwejang, seollongtang, etc. Until next time! read more

Worst kbbq experience in my life. As soon as we get there, the customers next to us ordered a more expensive item on the menu and as if to scoff at us, they didn't serve us for the first 10 minutes and only paid attention to the people next to us. We order the pork set, and the worker decides to throw everything in there at once, not separating it by meat but for his convenience as if they want us out of there. The owner proceeds to cut the meat after it's cooked and mixes all the meat together-wtf! As unappetizing as it looked- the taste was mediocre. Pork belly was mid, jowl was okay, pork shoulder was disgusting- seemed like they brought it out mid thaw. After asking for more banchan, the staff decided to throw the remaining banchan on our plate, I have never felt so disrespected in my life.
