A very popular, long-established Greek restaurant in Boston. Last time I walked in and was told…read morethere would be a two-hour wait, but this time I made a reservation and finally got to enjoy a delicious meal! Tiropita Rolls: Very straightforwardly delicious. The bread was warm, soft, and airy, with a rich aroma of butter and cheese; the spread was a rich blend of honey butter, and olives, sweet and delicious, perfect as an appetizer. Tzatziki: A slight disappointment. The cucumber and Greek yogurt spread was surprisingly heavy, a bit cloying, and the pickled kumquats weren't as sweet as I expected, but rather had a slightly bitter taste. The pita bread was thick and soft, probably better suited for dipping in soup--like Bourdeto--than for the spread. Bourdeto: The tomato fish soup was a pleasant surprise. The freshly caught grouper of the day was thick and tender, lightly seared to create a crispy crust. The broth was a vibrant, tangy tomato base, with onions, fennels, and red peppers contributing a sweet, layered flavor. Trahanas, fermented wheat and dairy, added richness and a smooth texture to the soup. The broth also had a slight spiciness, making it incredibly comforting on a chilly autumn day. Portokalopita: The dessert that elevated the entire meal. A traditional Greek orange phyllo, the cake, made from crumbs of phyllo pastry, becomes incredibly soft and moist after being soaked in orange syrup. Every bite was bursting with rich orange sweetness and fragrance, followed by a slightly bitter orange zest--perfectly balanced. Paired with Manouri cheese ice cream, the creamy flavor was incredibly rich and creamy, creating a harmonious and layered flavor profile.

A Disappointing End to What Should Have Been a Lovely Evening…read more Three of us visited Haley Henry Wine Bar in Boston this evening, looking forward to a relaxing night of wonderful wine, delicious small plates, and good company. We arrived promptly at 7:00 PM for our reservation and thoroughly enjoyed ordering several expensive bottles of wine and a generous selection of appetizers. We certainly weren't holding back on our spending and were happy to indulge in what we expected to be a memorable evening. Unfortunately, the evening ended on a very disappointing note. At 9:00 PM, while we were still enjoying our wine, we were informed that we needed to leave because another reservation was scheduled for our seats. I completely understand that restaurants need to manage reservations and accommodate other guests. However, when three patrons are spending hundreds of dollars on wine and food, being asked to leave before they've even finished their drinks feels incredibly unwelcoming. If there was a strict two-hour seating limit, that expectation should have been clearly communicated when we made our reservation or when we arrived. What started as a lovely evening ended with us feeling rushed, unappreciated, and frankly, disappointed. Fine wine deserves to be savored, not hurried. Unfortunately, the hospitality did not live up to the experience or the price tag.

I also ordered the Costillas de Cerdo. The sauce was excellent, and a few bites were oh so good. Wow! Yesterday two of my friends and I went to SRV without a reservation but were able to sit by the bar. Everything we ordered (meatballs, stuffed peppers, rye bread, crab risotto, chocolate cannoli) were excellent but we all agreed that the bread and risotto were absolute standouts! So in the end, I'm paying an arm and a leg for food that I'm not blown away by. The only place I've been consistently wowed by here is an omakase joint (I won't say which). Sorellina, right in the center of Back Bay, just didn't justify the price for me. Everything, from the gray/navy-based atmosphere to the food, felt very corporate, as in this is a great spot to treat co-workers or a corporate client, but, I don't know, lacked soul or heart. The best part of the meal for me was the bread they serve at the start, which, as I found out later when I called to ask if I could just buy the bread as a takeout option, isn't baked in-house - they get it from Gary's Pizza in the South End. It was perfectly toasted and crispy and I could've just eaten that for my meal. We tried some of the pastas: 1) the gnocchi with lobster - not bad and actually a decent amount of lobster in the dish but extremely heavy and not something I could eat a whole portion of; 2) the tagliatelle - very hearty, yet nothing I could say that elevates it from other plates of tagliatelle; and 3) the polpo - which was the most disappointing, the octopus was overcooked and the bottom cous cous had no taste. For well over $100 for three pasta dishes, nothing was spectacular. What was spectacular was the massive basket of fries they give as a side. They do give your money's worth with the fries. We ordered some drinks and a salad appetizer, as well as a limone dessert (that was actually worth it, just get that and the bread), and for two people, the total was around $350. We sat at the bar and it was a busy weekday night so the service was a little spotty.

The service became the best part of my lunch, aside from the ambience. The soup came out rather quickly. Not the best French Onion Soup, but not the worst. Flavor was underwhelming and there was too much cheese and croutons for my liking. It wasn't much of a soup, since there was more filling than liquid. The Steak Frites (upgraded to truffle fries) was a disappointment. For $30, you get about 6 bite size pieces of steak, some greens and a handful of fries. The steak was hard to chew and bland, just wasn't great overall. The fries were on the soggier side and lacked the truffle flavor as well. In conclusion, the food was lacking and not good. The service was amazing from the kitchen. We had a food party and shared all items. Pizza, fritto misto, braised beef on cauliflower puree ( no picture it was so good I forgot) Caesar salad and meatballs (also forgot to shoot a picture). Food was absolutely amazing. One note that I would normally score down on service when I order a drink before dinner I should at least get the drink and be able to consume it before all the food comes! Mida missed an opportunity here in timing the food and lost some liquor sales as a result. We gave this feedback to our server. Food was totally worth it and the vibe of the space was nice. Thanks Mida for a greata meala!

Delicious Italian that doubles as a delicious brunch spot. When we came for brunch before our…read moreflight, there weren't many folks dining in. Seating was easy and service was friendly. The interior is like many Italian spots, somewhat above average and slightly fancy, but nothing overwhelming. The spot definitely supports a casual dining approach even though it may look higher end. All the food we snagged was tasty. Arancini - a recommendation from our server which I believe isn't worth (at the price point) but is tasty. Soft and crispy rice balls enveloped with sauce, a fairly light appetizer to start the meal. Wish these were hotter, as they were served warm. Burrata - another recommendation from our server and a good one! Crispy ciabatta bread ready to scoop up the raisin pesto sauce and burrata cheese. Sweeter flavors from the sauce mixed with cheesy goodness and a great bread base to absorb it all. Rock Shrimp Carbonara - greasy bacon fat carbonara, as it should be. Amazing pasta, al dente, and abundant. Shrimp on the other hand, was not very abundant. Paccheri Bolognese - rich bolognese meat sauce. I think the choice of paccheri is a great pick while many other places use other pastas. Paccheri scooped up the sauce so well and was al dente. Plus very filling as a dish, I'd recommend this. Mida Slam - this is the epitome of brunch. Fluffy french toast with a delicious syrup. Bacon strips, eggs, some ciabatta bread, and potatoes. Yes it's a bunch of carbs but they're all delicious and flavorful. Each one has a different texture and flavor. This is the best choice for variety, especially those indecisive.
