Squid Lips is more of a one-and-done vs tourist trap. The food was pricey, yet forgettable. The sunset river views are spectacular, and the service is abysmal. Buz, you have a fabulous location, but your molasses paced service is your downfall, and you're well aware of it, given a handful of recent reviews complaining about it. Maybe you're content with the first time crowd. The good: great photo ops for sunsets by the river. The ambiance of the patio is welcoming with a ParrotHead vibe. The coconut shrimp and island dipping sauce are a hit. The Citrus Salmon was the winning entree, along with its blackened flavors. The bad: for $28.99, the Keys Combo should not come with a fish fillet so dry that it chokes the customer... and yes, we did complain, and it was removed from the bill. The ugly: how in the world does it take over an hour to bring appetizers, when one of them is a cold smoked fish dip with packaged crackers? Our server, Emma, was also a treat to interact with, as she announced, before our apps had even arrived, that the kitchen would be closing in 8 minutes, so if we wanted entrees, she'd have to put them in ASAP. And yes, Emma, I know there's a place on your POS device for tipping, just like there is in 99.9% of restaurants in America. So Buz, this is the review that your staff wrote... I just typed it in PS, so Buz replied to my review with this comment: "Your comments directed at both our team and ownership do not accurately reflect how our restaurant operates." My retort to him, is that we will have to agree to disagree. My comments were 100% representative of how your restaurant and staff operated the evening we came for dinner. I came here to celebrate my friends birthday and I was excited because I have never been here. This was one of the worst service experiences I have ever had. The views of the place were really nice on the deck. Although, we went around 6ish so the sun was setting so the sun was shining right in our eyes. We tried to find our waitress to see if she could help lower it but of course, we didn't. We ended up having to figure out how to lower it ourself. The server finally comes to greet us and get our drink orders. We ordered alcoholic drink and a few of us ordered waters and someone else ordered a coke. The person who ordered the coke had to remind her twice for coke. I had to ask three times for my water. The other person with us gave up because once she walked away from the table she probably wouldn't be back for a while! My food came out before my water did, 7 minutes into eating my food actually. I even had to ask the guy who dropped our food off if I could have silverware. We watched her check on other tables and not even make an attempt to come to ours. Had we not have been celebrating a birthday, I would have left because it was absolutely ridiculous! She was the friendliest to our group when she brought the check to our table. 18% gratuity was added to our table because we had a total of 9 people but she DID NOT deserve 18% tip at all. Who doesn't love dinner with a beautiful view? At Squid Lips, you can often catch a glimpse of dolphins, manatees, and plenty of catfish while you eat, which makes the experience extra special. We enjoyed a lovely sunset dinner here and it did not disappoint. There is even a dock for strolling after you eat. I ordered the fried shrimp, my husband had the fried fish, and our Aunt chose the fish tacos. Everyone loved their meals, and the prices are very reasonable considering the waterfront location. The kids' menu is a nice touch for families. Our little ones stuck with the classic chicken nuggets. The service was friendly, and since we usually visit on slower nights, the atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. The outdoor bar is huge, and we happened to catch happy hour. I grabbed a $5 margarita while my husband and aunt had beers. The margarita wasn't the best I've ever had, but for $5 it hit the spot! All in all, Squid Lips is a great spot to bring out-of-town visitors or simply enjoy a meal with water views. We'll definitely be back. read more

Super chill, islandy vibe--we sat outside, caught the breeze like a sailboat, and felt ourselves instantly enter vacation mode. Service? ON it. Friendly, fast, and they didn't even blink when our kids started feeding the fish off the pier like it was their part-time job. Honestly, that pier fish-feeding gig might be their new career path. Probably traditional. Maybe sacred? But I'm a rebel and lowkey wondering if tortilla chips would be better or if that's considered a felony in Florida. I don't know--I'm not from here. As first time patrons, 4 of us, we would have quickly decided one and done if the hostess, Emily, was our only staff contact. Being seated as far away from the water, after arriving by boat, we asked to sit in another area. She said, "I can't sit you at a big table ". Very rude and told me not to yell at her when I asked her, in a normal tone of voice, if we could sit at a particular 4 chair table near the water. We were standing within 4 feet of each other. I asked her if she really thought I was yelling at her and she said, "don't talk to me across the room. It's a bad experience for the other guests. Absolutely ridiculous. We were not made to feel welcome at all. We went to the bar and had a great experience with Kamy. Great friendly personality and service. We loved every minute. Thank you, Kamy. The food was unremarkable at best for the money ($50 a head or so including the tip). The best thing was the giant pretzel appetizer. Baked oysters were so drowned in parmesan, you could barely taste them. Unfortunately, what made this a worse than average experience was the "ambiance" if you can call it that. The entry smelled like an old basement -- damp and musty. The inside seating area was really chilly, so we opted to sit on the covered porch, and immediately got rain-soaked through a giant hole in the roof. Our server looked up and said, insincerely: "oh, wow, there's a hole there!" (As if it was the first time she ever saw that hole. Right.) Our options at point were to go inside into the chilly interior (while wet) or just kind of ...sit there, which we chose. This was followed closely by the server bringing me my drink with a dead bug of some kind. When I pointed it out, she informed me that it must have been stuck in the soda gun (gross?). (She did replace my drink.) In general, this was kind of an unpleasant experience, so that will be a miss for us in the future. read more

We went to Squid Lips while on vacation in Cocoa Beach. Like others have mentioned, the parking lot and front of the business doesn't do this justice. The outdoor eating area is awesome, with some great sights. Service was a tad slow - our server mentioned they were short staffed that day - however as we were on vacation, this didn't really affect our experience. We ordered the Conch Fritters as an appetizer, and they were alright. Random bits of Conch were pretty hard but overall they tasted fine - you also got a bunch of them. I've had Conch Fritters numerous places and haven't really gotten the hard pieces, but such is life. The tuna poke bowl was phenomenal, and my wife had a shrimp poke bowl which she loved. Overall this place is great - don't skip it when looking for places to eat down here! read more

Once again my group went to Squid Lips Cocoa Beach. There is a really strong odor of mold and mildew when you walk in the door. This time the stairs near the restrooms were blocked off with cones and a bucket to catch a leak ? There were only 3 other tables besides ours at 6: pm. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't at its best on this visit. We ordered the shrimp special. The fries had a very unpleasant texture. The coleslaw had a very sour taste? The server wasn't very attentive and seemed overwhelmed with her tables. The server shared they would be closing Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays. starting Sept. 1st. I am disappointed at this turn of events. Hopefully this was only an off night. Looking forward to seeing them do a turnaround and resume the quality of food and service they exhibited in the past. read more

My husband and I have always enjoyed our food from here and I recently had out of town visitors who wanted seafood delivered. I couldn't find exactly what they wanted so I called the restaurant and the manager was so incredibly helpful and got everybody's order perfect. My visitors were thrilled with their food. The food was okay and the view was GREAT but had a not great experience beyond that. The stuffed shrimp was amazing and our coconut shrimp was good too. While eating outside we saw a rat running around touching dirty dishes. When we brought it up, the waiter acted like it was no big deal. Our waiter casually told us the only cook was "high off his mind"--completely unprofessional and seriously concerning. There was no manager around when we left--just the same waiter who followed us out. We decided to deal with it the next morning because we already late to an event. We called the next day to report everything and were told they couldn't refund our $84 bill because it was "hearsay" and we didn't ask for a manager at the time. Between the rodents, unsafe kitchen behavior, cold food, and service, this place was a total disaster. The food was alright though along with the view. As someone that has worked in the food industry, was very disappointed in the lack of professionalism in the hostesses. I want to preface this as this was a Friday night around 6:30pm which is peak dinner rush and I understand they were very busy. We called early and they said they could not take reservations under 10, so we arrived at the restaurant and were added to a list and were told 10-15 minutes. We sat down and waited for them to text us that our table was ready as we proceeded to see several groups of people walking in being seated right away. After 20 minutes, we went up to the host stand and they said they did not know how long the wait was and proceeded to ignore us and let other people through to be seated. We felt we were being discriminated against and we felt as if the hostesses were playing favorites. As this is typically a family favorite restaurant of 50+ of my family members, we will be going elsewhere where we are not ignored. read more

Great location. Solid service. Quiet Thursday night before Christmas week. Conch fritters: good flavorful batter. Cooked to a nice crisp. Served hot with a tasty sauce. A little light in conch, but overall went well with our adult beverages. Mahi Reuben: okay amount of well cooked fish, utterly lacking in seasoning. Very skimpy amount of saurkraut and thousand islands dressing(?!). Why? These ingredients aren't the expensive part of the meal. Great fries - crispy and nicely seasoned. Good beans (veggies of the day). Summary: Unexciting but edible fish sandwich. Very much a pretend Reuben. Stuffed flounder: fish was mushy and bland. Crab stuffing didn't taste good. Fish left under the warming light too long. Needed some TLC for taste. Pretty blah meal for what we were charged for the meal. Comment: waitress was attentive and deserved a good tip. The restaurant adds another 3.8% service charge for the folks in the back. Meal wasn't a good value for the amount of tip we ended up paying.
