Honestly, this place is a great Sunday brunch spot as well as a date spot. If you want attentive bartenders who aren't afraid of being themselves, come to Squable. I have absolutely NOTHING bad to say about Squable except that there are too many delicious options on the menu to only choose one. I always leave here stuffed because we want to try something new and reorder all of our favorites. I have not had a single bad meal at Squable and would recommend it to everyone for any casual occasion. There is a parking lot for the restaurant so parking is fast and easy. The decor is nice and earthy. They have indoor seating and a covered patio with heaters. The service is amazing! Everyone is attentive and helpful. I came here once awhile back and was not as impressed with the food as all the other reviewers were so I decided to come back one more time. It's a very cute restaurant located in the Heights, but as with all other places in the area make sure you give yourself some extra time to find parking. We started off with cocktails first which were pretty good. For food we had the roasted sweet potato pork belly, marinated tomatoes with confit tuna, beef short rib, and the french cheeseburger. The menu has basically completely changed from the last time I came here but we also had the pork belly last time, dutch pancake (different flavor), and a pasta dish from what I can recall. I will say I did like the sweet potato pork belly as I wanted to order it again this time and while still good, it tasted better the first time. The confit tuna and short rib were decent but there was nothing special about the dishes that blew me away. For the price of the short rib ($36) I would have liked a bit more than just 5 pieces of short rib and some stewed veggies. Our favorite item of the night honestly was the cheeseburger and the accompanying fries. The meat was juicy and also had a nice char, it paired well with the cheesy raclette. Overall, service was great and everything was decent. But for this price point, I would expect a little more than just decent. There are other restaurants in Houston at this similar price range with just better tasting, more unique dishes that I would prefer to go to. Pleasantly surprised with how good this place was. Restaurant is on the small side but really cute place. We had a reservation for the patio, it was covered and they did have fans to help circulate the air but Houston in the summer is hot. It was bearable but keep this in mind if you opt for the patio. Are waitress, was nice, inviting and very knowledgeable of the menu. There drink selections are top notch. I liked that they had several drink options based on your spirit of choice. We came for brunch and shared several plates. The burger was delicious; a little on the small side. My favorite surprisingly was the mussel bread (not the name of the dish, lol) . I've never had mussels but I'm a seafood gal so I gave it a whirl. The bread was crispy and the mussels/bean topping was delightful. My least favorite was the grapefruit salad. We sat under the covered patio, facing the lights strings in the uncovered area. Very cute! Service and food were so great! Overall Squable is a gem in the Heights. The restaurant is a nice restaurant with a great ambiance even though it's on the smaller side. I ventured out on a late afternoon weekday to avoid the weekend brunch crowds. I ordered a French Cheeseburger and I rarely send items back but my burger was cold! I waited a little bit and received one hot French Cheeseburger that had incredible flavor and taste. The cheese (raclette) on the burger really brings out the flavor. The burger is a little taller than a slider. The fries were decent but nothing amazing. The service was very good also. I would be open to adding raclette fries to the menu Overall I would go back despite a cold burger given the taste of the burger was one of the best I ever had! read more

First of all, some of the best service we've ever had. Ask for Michelle, she was awesome. Very attentive and gave great recommendations. The ambiance was good, if a little cramped. The food was good to amazing. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because of the value. I've had better food at places like Traveler's Table, Be More Pacific, and Money Cat. But all of those places were quite a bit cheaper than Squable. I feel like they could lower their prices across the board by a couple of bucks, and then they'd be a good value. So $13 cocktails instead of $15, for example. Or for another, we got the greens and goat cheese cold plate and it was good, but it was $14. For a salad I could make myself for $5 at HEB (and I would have about 5x as much food), I expect more. But overall, I would recommend. Just not as strongly as some others. read more

We were able to get a reservation (finally) and decided to give this place a shot. The hostess was much nicer than who we were greeted with awhile ago and I can appreciate that. We had two servers essentially and both were very knowledgeable, kind & efficient. Service was very quick as well. The vibe is quiet, intimate & dark. It's a small restaurant, and the bar area seemed a little more lively if you're wanting that vs. intimate date. Now to the food/drinks. My husband got the fortress cab wine & it was good. I got a Moscow mule & it was fine. For small plates, we got the sourdough bread, mussels, roasted sweet potatoes, and gigli pasta. The sourdough bread was good and I liked the spread (butter) they gave with it. I could have done without the sesame seeds though. The mussels small plate was really disappointing. We thought the mussels would be hot, but it was a cold plate. The kidney beans added the strangest taste and it is something I would NOT recommend. The roasted sweet potatoes (not pictured, sorry) with pork belly was actually okay. I wasn't impressed but it wasn't disgusting. The potatoes were cooked well & the pork belly added a nice touch. I liked the sauce they topped it with. The pasta (gigli) was our favorite dish for the night. Creamy, rich & full of flavor. The short ribs were actually cooked really well & was good, but the vegetables aka potatoes were not fully cooked and hard as hell. They seriously looked like apples and were not. I wouldn't get that dish. As for dessert, we got the dessert bread & it was very good! Enough for 2 to share because it was very sweet. Came to this restaurant on a recommendation. And, glad we came. Am sure on a normal day in our non Covid days. This place would be packed inside and out. However, there were a few people there. We made our reservations for four kids and husband. We were nicely greeted by a young lady. We sat at a booth and immediately given glasses of water. Our waiter was great so was our hostess. Let's talk about food We ordered to start off the Focaccia bread with carrot spread. Heaven! Kids liked it too so hint hint it's delish. I'm so happy I finally tried Squable! My husband and I sat at the bar-- we loved that the bartender and servers were interactive and it didn't feel like it was intrusive of our date night. We started off with some drinks- hubs got the Negroni and I got a Manhattan. The drinks are strong! And delicious. It may take a lil bit for you to get your drink but it's worth it, they take their time to make it well and your Manhattan comes out with a frozen glass filled with a S imprinted ice cube. For the food items Sourdough- 3/5 This is probably the only item that I didn't love. I normally love sourdough bread but I wasn't a big fan of the sesame. The butter however was phenomenal. Sweet potatoes w/ pork belly - 5/5 SO GOOD! Perfectly roasted potatoes. And the pork belly was melt in your mouth. Lasagna- 5/5 I am so glad we decided to order lasagna. You definitely won't regret ordering this dish because it's legit the best lasagna Ive ever had. Roast chicken - 4/5 the chicken itself is really flavorful and the dish is super filling. It was too salty though! Chocolate fondant - 5/5 loved the candied almonds and the chocolate wasn't overly sweetened. It was just right. Yuck. This place is NOT good. Food is GREASY and very salty! The waitstaff are rude; our table was right in the sun and we asked to move it so a minute later this dude comes by and extremely aggressively pulls the table and jams the chairs on my knee. The quality of the meat they use is bad; the fried chicken is mostly breading with a very dark bone no meat chicken in the center. Do not go there, we certainly won't be going back.  They advertise that their patio has fans....they have four fans mounted very high up and all pointing the same freaking direction, so if you end up on the wrong side of the fans you get no air at all!!!! read more

Had amazing time went for early dinner and the ambiance is beautiful and the staff and service was perfect. Definitely food to share so that your whole party get to experience more of the menu. The drinks are so amazing and the can make whatever you're in the mood for, as well as mock tails. We had the grapefruit salad it was so fresh and a definite zing to it as well as sweet, definitely love the radishes. The raw bluefin tuna was so tasty and the pairing with citrus elevated the taste. The beef tartare was a fave paired with the sourdough. The buttered golden rice was outstanding and it was topped with an oxtail sugo, a must have. Such a great new place to eat in Houston. I've been here twice and was amazed at how accommodating they can be for other diets (i.e. can make some of their dishes vegan vs vegetarian) and just the overall ambiance. Squable is an up and coming little place with a great retro decor. Really aesthetically pleasing inside and waiters who know how to explain the menu in depth. In regards to the food would highly recommend the Dutch Baby and the pork and sweet potatoes. Those have been my favorite dishes thus far. The fried hen sounded amazing in theory but I felt like it wasn't as good as general other fried chicken I've had. The roast chicken though was very good. Loved topping it with the the young kraut - Dutch baby: a sweet yet savory delight. Citrus notes with salted undertones make for a balanced pancake dish. Came highly recommended and will order it again. - Donuts: the same magical donuts from BLT. If you haven't tried them yet you're missing out! Extra credit: after stuffing my fave with the above, I brought home the French Cheeseburger for my fiancé to try. I'm proud to report I may or may not have eaten half because it was one of the greatest burgers I've ever had. The meat was juicy, bread was perfect kind of fluffy, and the sauce was some mixture of crack and heaven that made it easy to forget I was already suffering from major heartburn before even biting into this dish. I ordered the avocado toast that came with scrambled eggs. The eggs looked watery and as if it had more yolk that egg white. I didn't eat them because I don't eat egg, but I did taste them. They were ok. Husband ordered the burger which was good. I believe my mimosa was $12. I don't believe in $12 mimosas. Hubs ordered a $14 margaritas that came in a baby glass. But it was good. Tables were wobbly and made our experience uncomfortable as water kept a spilling. Our server was the best, though. The location was difficult to find due to lack of signage. Thank goodness for gps. I only knew I was in the right place once I spotted the name on the valet podium. Valet is free. The restaurant is small but cute. The food is okay. I couldn't tell what cuisine or blend of cuisines they're going for. There was no unifying theme. We started off with warm focaccia bread that comes with this amazing gingery carrot spread that's slightly sweetened with some sort of honey drizzle and it was better than butta! Next we tried the sweet potatoes with pork topping and I found it amazing that it was the crispy pork that brought out the sweetness of the soft sweet potato. Also, we tried the Fried Hen that was crispy on the outside and very tender/juicy on the inside. That was paired with this sort of tzatziki sauce, which made for a fascinating taste! I'm not a huge fan of fish, however Carlos highly recommended the Snapper and said it was very light, clean and full of flavor. So we shared the entree and I have to agree, it was pretty good. It was topped with spinach, dill, pesto and pumpkin seeds and wow, what amazing flavors and texture! The cocktails were all amazing and the wine pairing with our fish was even better! I give this place sex in your mouth good! And let's not forget the ambiance, its romantic, sexy, and cute in so many ways...and there's even a romantic seating area outside with globe lights that makeshift as a romantic ceiling. I love squable. Most of their dishes have a nice balance of acidity. The plates are small enough where you can have a smattering of everything without too much leftovers. My friends and I enjoyed everything we ordered but the honorable mentions are: - marinated mussels on grilled bread - seared summer squash - radiatore with crawfish - bucatini The size of the plates are terrible vessels for the pasta. I've been eyeing this spot for a while, and my husband and I finally came for a Sunday brunch. As everyone else has said, be sure to make reservations- it was packed at 12:30 on a Sunday. We started with a Bloody Mary and mimosa... I'd skip these next time, there was nothing particularly special about them so they felt very overpriced. I'd probably just get a beer or cider next time. Our first food item was the Dutch Baby Pancake, as it seems to be the signature dish for Squable. This item was good, but again the value really wasn't there. I'd skip this next time and get something a little more unusual. For our mains, we had the Oyster Mushroom Hash and Carbonara pasta. These 2 dishes, and particularly the hash, completely blew us away. The oyster mushroom hash was very complex- lots of flavors and textures going on. The potatoes were perfectly crisp and the poached eggs were wonderful on top. Be warned- this dish was spicy, so if you don't like heat then I'd skip this one. The carbonara was a little less exciting and unique, but I can't complain about a perfectly executed pasta. We'd definitely get these again. And even though the plates look small, we were STUFFED afterward. Before the check, our server brought out donuts for my birthday. The donuts are a huge portion and taste perfectly homemade, if you're a donut fan then I'd definitely recommend sharing these as dessert. We'll be back! read more

I went here for brunch this past Sunday and it was not busy at all. We ordered the fried chicken, French toast, and oyster mushrooms hash. The fried chicken took 30mins to come out and it was not hot at all and was very bland. We had to send it back. Our waitress told us that there had been an influx of order for the French toast. After 15 minutes later, we got our French toast and one toast was burnt. The oyster mushroom hash was super salty and we were super hungry at this point after waiting 50 minutes for our food. The table next to us who had sat at the same time as us had already finished eating and left. I was super frustrated and not happy with the food. Okay, where do I start with Squable? This place is I N C R E D I B L E. Like so so so amazingly good. We came here for a date night with a couple of friends and went all out on our dinner. Our waitress was very friendly and super knowledgeable. She suggested the *perfect* cocktails and wine pairings. Everything I ate was delicious. The brioche dessert bread is probably one of the top ten best things I've ever eaten in my life. It tasted like a cross between bread pudding (which I usually hate) and crème brûlée. The texture was incredible- crispy and crunchy and yet also luscious and creamy. I wanted to lick the plate, it was THAT good. Got to finally try our Squabble for a girl's night and we loved it! The food was so fun and such a great experience with everything being shared because that's how I like to eat lol I can't ever decide on one thing We had the mussels which were zesty and delicious. Never had mussels like that before. We also had the Gougeres which reminded me of those Brazillian steak house puffs? The pork and beef meatballs tasted like pho which was so unexpected lol The papperdelle was so fresh and yummy. They don't make their pasta fresh in house but they do get it locally delivered (all of their ingredients are locally sourced) daily. The radiatore was delicious also. I was hesitant about this one because I heard negative reviews but we thought it was great! Next up was the chicken which omg? How? How was chicken that good? It was buried under an herb garden with a fresh zesty vinaigrette We tried the beef short ribs which literally was Vietnamese Bo kho with a little pizzaz but so tender and delicious. For dessert we had the brioche dessert bread my bestie says she'll go anywhere if there's bread pudding lol And my absolute favorite the Budino which was like a giant liquid Ferraro rocher what's not to love?
