Egg drop soup was good! I was alone and mmmm'ing to myself!

I'm giving this place 3 stars because I am judging it solely on the fact that I have only had two things off of their menu. If and when I eat a larger variety of food, I will update. I went in here to grab a quick snack while waiting for my kids to finish dance class. I decided on the spring rolls and some egg drop soup. The food was fresh, hot and the rolls crispy. I really enjoyed their egg drop soup and have gotten it several more times following my first encounter. I even got my daughters hooked on it and for just $1.98, it's very satisfying along with the side of the crispy noodles. I add a little pepper, some noodles, spoon and then eat. While in here I grabbed on the Belly reward cards and entered my info into the tablet they have on the counter and every time you go in there you just scan and can earn rewards. I already got a free drink! The place is clean, there's ample seating and a nice window seating area to watch the world go by as you eat. There's free wifi access and it's quiet. It seems to be more of a place that people take out their food but I still enjoy sitting in there with my hot soup occasionally. I don't really see any other Chinese take-out places in this area so I guess they have that advantage. I'm just pleased that they don't water down the soup like some places. That is all.

Awful greasy food and high prices. I will never go back. Rude employees too. Never again.

Can't believe it took us so long to try it. We tried the intestine & duck blood stew, cucumber salad, cumin lamb, soup dumplings, and had rice on the side. I loved all of them. They serve authentic Szechuan style Chinese cuisine. I've never been to China but our Chinese neighbor vouched for it. If you love Szechuan cuisine, def try this spot. The staff working was super attentive and nice and portions were huge. Parking could be challenging but we went early dinner so we were able to find a spot at the parking lot. They were pretty busy with take out orders because they also have regular Chinese-American dishes so you can order that menu if that's your preference. It would be awesome too if they expanded their dim sum menu, I'd come every weekend ha. I will definitely come back again and will also try take out. Hidden gem in the Del Ray area!

Little did I know that I would pass by it on my bike route and stopped in spontaneously for dinner. We were nervous about leaving our bike unsecured against the wall and debated going elsewhere. Luckily, there was a booth available next to the window to keep a watch out. Worth it!!! So glad we made it work. In fact, even if our bikes did get stolen, I would say the meal would have still been worth it. Very attractive menu and was impressed with how many gluten free options there were. There was steady flow of diners coming and going for takeout as well as dine in. The service was exceptional and personable. The one thing that I appreciate about Chinese food is the preparation involved in its cuisine. Many of these Chinese seem too time consuming or complicated to recreate at home. I always enjoy trying new dishes given the variety of regions. While the last two dishes we ordered had two to three chili pepper indicators, they weren't spicy to me. My cycling companion, on the other hand, got to experience the mouth numbing flavors of Schezuan food for the first time and said his mouth was on fire. Meanwhile, I loved the texture and flavors of the duck blood dish. The dish's name probably doesn't sound the most appetizing to the general public but I wanted to try something unique and was impressed. I had no idea Chinese cuisine had duck blood in their dish! My friend opted for a "safer" dish, we both enjoyed that the lazi was perfectly crispy and were entertained by the amount of chili peppers on the plate. +Shrimp Fried Rice 经典炒饭 +Lazi 辣子系列-Crispy chicken tossed in dry peppers and spicy seasoning +Intestine with Duck Blood 五更肠旺-Pickled cabbage, duck blood, intestine, tofu, and garlic sprouts

Multiple spaces were adjacent, including two other storefronts in the same building as this Chinese restaurant, which has been here for a while through the troubles. Despite the fact that this area is home for me, I never visited this restaurant, mainly because the Vietnamese standby across the street drew my business. But with them gone, I found excuse to try this dumpling spot. I have to say, I didn't expect anything great and it exceeded my expectations. Pickup was not the smoothest; I discovered that ordering through one of the apps does not give them your name so I sat for a bit before it was finally determined what order was mine. I sampled a fried tofu dish, and while I have eaten quite a lot of fried tofu at Chinese restaurants over my years, this preparation was different from anything I've had. It was breaded and cooked with what seemed like a dry fry technique, and had ample dried chilis and peanuts. The salty flavor in addition to the dryness was a lot to take and I mixed it with other things, but it was interesting. A black mushroom salad was saucy and not spicy. I wasn't sure what their generically named vegetable dumplings might yield, but it was an aromatic and texturally interesting mix of greens and mushrooms, and came with both a vinegar-based sauce and some chili crisp, and the portion was big enough to be worth the price. There were other vegetarian options to try, and my first visit convinced me that they might be worth trying.

Tucked into the heart of Dupont Circle with its unmistakable bright blue awning, the restaurant is intimate, moody, and always buzzing. Inside, you'll find dim lighting, a handful of cozy wooden bar booths, seats along the bar, and a few outdoor tables. It's not a huge space, which only adds to its charm and makes every reservation feel like a win. The atmosphere is perfect for sharing dishes and lingering over dinner with friends. The food was incredible...I genuinely loved every single bite. Just be prepared: the Sichuan spice is no joke! If you aren't expecting it, it'll definitely sneak up on you (in the best way). My must-orders? The chili wontons, Dan Dan noodles, and beef noodles. Every dish was packed with bold flavor and left me wanting to come back for more. If you've been trying to score a reservation, keep at it. Astoria is one of those places that's absolutely deserving of its reputation, and I'll be thinking about those noodles until my next visit.

Inside had small tables and a kinda casual cocktail bar vibe Beef Noodles - the highlight and actually very good! The noodles are long and handmade and chewy. They hold onto the sauce very well! The sauce has a slight kick and is very savory. The beef is soft and also flavorful! I feel the price for the portion is kinda expensive though 8/10 Chili wontons - skin is silky and soft, sauce is savory with a small kick as well! Even though the sauces look similar to beef noodle they taste very different. The fillings had good flavor and overall were good but were a bit tougher and dryer than I would prefer. 6/10 Crab fried rice - crab is slightly overcooked but naturally sweet. It has a light curry taste throughout and was pretty good but didn't really stand out 5.5/10 Mapo tofu - slight kick and nice savory taste in the sauce! However I think they cut the tofu pieces way too large or the tofu they chose had way too much tofu flavor that overpowers the sauce. I'd prefer a very light silky tofu but this was a soft tofu. 6/10 Vpod - at first it just tasted like orange juice but then the other flavors peek through on the after taste and when I mixed it more. Even though it was good, it still felt very basic 5/10 Philadelphia Scotsman - it's pretty ginger forward. Technically the level of ginger spice is fine but strong but then the rest of the drink got completely overpowered and so this just wasn't that great 2.5/10

We'll have to look for an opportunity when we are around the dog all day, so she can be on her own for a couple of hours, likely sleeping. Birdsong already is acclaimed. This is much more Thai and Thai American. Like Chinese or Italian cuisine before it, Thai flavors have assimilated to a palate not accustomed to the true strength of the spices. Birdsong is a remedy. They do not offer the pad thai that has become a staple, no longer exotic but to its detriment. (A digression. The history of pad thai, with contested origins, is fascinating. As you delve into these matters, you see how syncretic culture is. You also are exposed to the efforts to fashion a unifying mythology.) We ordered the chicken, the shrimp, the crab fried rice, the papaya salad, and the enhancement. The chicken and the shrimp were quality ingredients, prepared well. Although both proteins were fried, they felt clean. The crab fried rice was one option of many with the rice base. The papaya salad was fresh. The enhancement was radish with "fermented daikon, garlic, red onion, cilantro, palm sugar, and fish sauce scrambled with eggs for a balanced savory and sweet flavor," and the portion was generous: we put it on the rice, then I finished it off in an omelet the next morning. We have traveled to Bangkok. Thai spiciness exceeds what I would endorse, and I love hot dishes. Birdsong was much milder, though with sufficient pepperiness my wife, who does not share my preferences, remarked it was closer to her limit. They will work with you in this respect, and I'm confident I could request something that would test my capabilities. That is, in my book, all positive. The dishes that were mild according to the menu, were mild, but they were flavorful. If you do not like fish sauce, for example, you may not appreciate the offerings, which if they don't have fish sauce have something along those lines. I hope Birdsong fares well.

The employee working the front, Leah, repeatedly helped customers who came in after me while I stood there waiting to place my order and later to pick it up. A simple acknowledgment, like "I'll be right with you," would have made all the difference. I've never been treated this way at Songbird before. Every other employee I've encountered has always been friendly and professional, which is why this stood out so much. I hope management takes the time to speak with this employee so that no other customer has the same experience.
