This used to be one of my favorite chinese restaurants. We were looking forward to our take out as it has been awhile since we last had it. We were extremely disappointed to receive burnt food. The egg food young was so obviously burnt but was still given to us. Of course, we had no idea until we got home. It's extremely inconvenience to drive back from Oxnard to Ventura.. While their cashew chicken was not bad, and their portions are huge, I have two main "beefs" with them. They advertise "No MSG" but I can taste something MSG-like in their food. Lots of times it's in bottled sauces or seasonings under names that only a scientist would recognize. Also, the guy at the front desk laughed in my face when I asked him if they had a Triple AAA discount. He was like, "This is a Chinese restaurant!" in a really derisive and scathing way. That was really offensive. Normally I don't make emotional decisions about restaurants, but I really don't want to patronize a business like that. read more

This Place is SUPER GRUB! The food here is really good. If your in the mood for Chinese food, and love locally in Ventura- this place is whats up. The orange chicken is great, the lo mein, and really Just about everything i have tried, has been very tasty. Its not the cheapest dinner option out there but you really get what you pay for, and I feel personally the quality of food here is awesome! My order was okay. Ordered the shrimp and walnut with brown rice. The mayo/cream seemed lighter. Service not so great today. It took 10 minutes for them to even acknowledge we were there. We ended up seating ourselves at a table nearest the door. Still took another 5 minutes for anyone to greet us at the table we sat us. There was only 1 other party (of three) in the restaurant at the time. The vibe between the only two workers on the floor seemed off. They talked loudly at each other, on the middle of the floor and myself and the lady from the other party looked at each other as we could sense frustration. Other than that, it's a nice restaurant. Since we've been visiting Ventura for years, I decided it was time to try to find a good Chinese restaurant here. There aren't a lot of Chinese in the area, so I didn't expect to find an authentic place with mostly Chinese clientele. But I did like the reviews and pictures here so we gave it a shot. Well, it was pretty good. The food is cooked perfectly (so easy to find overcooked Chinese food). The sauces are a little too strong and heavy for my taste, but I was raised on Cantonese food and we're more biased towards tasting the food itself. The Szechwan eggplant was dead-on delicious. The Honey Walnut Prawns went way too heavy on the mayo, but the flavors were good and the pineapple was a nice touch. The King and the Queen was a little disappointing... at first the beef had a nicely singed taste... but as it cooled it just all kind of got crusty and chewy. The shrimp side was a little too sugary, but on the right track. I think that would be a good dish for a large party where everyone got a taste but not much more. In general, the prices were high ($17+ a chef's special) but portions were huge, so order accordingly. The staff was very friendly. It's great that they serve brown rice, but a little weird that they only bring it out by the single bowl. Four stars for context (Chinese food in Ventura). For any of you who remember Chef Chu's in its heyday (Silicon Valley in the '70s), this food reminds me of them. Pretty convenient to have dinner here and shop at Trader Joe's afterwards. read more

Not the best. They require you order a minimum of $25-$30 in food for delivery..which was mentioned after we had already placed our order. It came to $22 and some change so we had to order something else before they would deliver. The chicken Lo Mein was decent, the pork fried rice tasted like it had been sitting on the stove all day and the beef sticks were chewy and undercooked. I love this place, my boyfriend and I come here regularly. The service is always nice and it's usually quiet even when busy. I change up what I order and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the black pepper chicken, though. We have also gotten to-go orders a few times and the quality doesn't deminish much on the drive home (a problem many may be familiar with). Best Chinese food I've had in a long time. I had the sweet and sour soup, then had Eggplant with Bean Curd in Brown Sauce. The soup had color, texture, and best of all, taste. Lots of goodies in it. Could have made a meal of that with a larger serving. The Eggplant dish was beautiful and appetizing, a huge portion that I shared with my husband. Love tofu dishes and this one was great! By the way, the atmosphere was quiet (in a pleasant way)- and very clean. Went for lunch today with my boyfriend and had lunch specials. I had egg flower soup and lemon chicken. The soup was really tasty. Surprisingly had a lot of corn in it. I thought that was different. My boyfriend said the hot and sour was good. The lemon chicken has a crispy bread crumb type batter. Reminded of of Hawaiian chicken Katsu with lemon sauce. Different than was I expected but still good and the portion was huge. The orange chicken my boyfriend got was great. Really hot and fresh, good veggies with it Fried rice was meh. Nothing super great. A little greasy and not much to it. Egg rolls were yummy. Asked my grandmother where she would like to go for her birthday without hesitantion she said this place and at first I thought " really?" But it was her choice and I'm glad we did. It's a restaurant located in a shopping center next to a nail place & trader joes. Walked in and my grandparents being regulars were welcomed with such happiness, we were introduced to the owner and others. Such a nice family and very personable, cracking jokes. My grandpa ordered for the table the items he thought best, for 6 people we had 2 orders of eggrolls and cream cheese wontons to start along with our choice of soup. For dinner we had broccoli beef, imperial shrimp, twice cooked pork, shrimp Lo mein, fried rice, and Orange chicken. We were seated at a traditional table with a lazy Susan to help share items. Service was attentive and fast. The eggrolls were good, in fact everything was tasty! Much better quality than other places and the sauces were perfect. . All meats were tender and flavorful, the shrimp was plump and fresh. Best part was they snuck over to trader joes and brought my grandma a chocolate cake for her birthday, without us even asking for anything. Just such a sweet gesture, and greatly appreciated. Spring Garden is located in the same plaza as Trader Joes on Victoria so its really easy to find. I ordered the Chicken Mu Shu, BBQ Pork Fried Rice and a small Egg Drop soup for a total of ~$28. It's a great deal since the portions are huge! The "small" Egg Drop soup could easily feed 3-4 people. The corn in the soup made it seem really fresh. The BBQ Pork Fried Rice was really tasty but a little on the dry side. The Chicken Mu Shu was good too and I enjoyed the plum sauce on the side. Quick service. Amazing food! My mom and I ordered Moo shoo pork, crispy walnut shrimp, and green beans. Everything came out perfect. The crispy walnut shrimp wasn't overly coated in batter so you could taste the shrimp. It also had the perfect amount of sauce so it wasn't soggy. All the other good was delicious. We also got the Yelp deal for free egg rolls. They were fantastic as well. The customer service was great, they were extremely friendly and helpful. Lunch specials are around $7-$8. This is basically a fancy sit down version of Panda Express. Only, their food tastes way better for almost the same price! Each of their lunch specials comes with a soup, a choice of wontons or egg rolls, a choice of rice and an entree. There isn't really anything that you can go wrong with at Spring Garden. Their orange chicken and Mongolian beef are both excellent. For those looking for somethings that are more traditional they have nuroh mien (beef noodle soup). I would still prefer those at Liang's kitchen as it's sweeter and as you can get fatter noodles, but as Spring Garden saves an hour drive, I won't complain. read more

The food was amazing! We got mongolian beef, chicken lo mein, pork lo mein and potstickers. Potstickers came with an amazing sauce so #1. Pork lo mein was #2 and the beef was third.
