Hot mint tea, with a teapot for an additional serving
Emma S.

When a place is recommended to me twice in the space of an hour, I know I have to try it. When my friend heard I was going to Sonoma, her first thought was that I should go to Spread Kitchen and my friend in Sonoma also referred to it as a favorite in his group. For those looking for flavorful vegan options, this is one of the best vegan/vegetarian-friendly menus I've seen in a long time. While halal meat and protein can be added to most dishes, they're easily avoided and nothing seems to lacking as a result. While I was tempted by the dips, veggie maze options and wraps, I ended up opting for their roasted beet fattoush and my son ordered their dirty fries. The turmeric chicken with toum (a Lebanese condiment made with fresh garlic and magic fairy dust I presume, was incredibly tender. Toum isn't like anything I've had before. It was obviously fresh and has a delicate, mild flavor. I had to reread the menu to remember that it has a garlic base. The pita chips were housemade and dusted with seasonings. My son's dirty fries were a generous serving and we both had tea to accompany our meals: a caffeinated mint for me and organic chai for him. Our server, Nicole, kindly brought my son more hot water too when he finished his initial cup. We indulged in their rice pudding as well, which has cardamom and nuts, almonds I think. It's beautifully garnished and served cold. The service is casual, but we didn't have to wait to be greeted or served. The food came quickly and it seems like most of the items on the menu are also well suited to take out. A number of their dips are available in carry out containers. They have a small dining room with a half dozen small tables, plus an outdoor patio, which we didn't explore since it was a rather cold February evening, but plenty of people seemed to have accepted seating outside. I'll definitely be back! I want to explore many of the other items on the menu! Thanks to my friends for the recommendation. This was my first foray into Lebanese food, but I'm looking forward to the next!

Loved the variety of the dip plate! Got four dips: muhammara, labneh, hummus, and ganoush! The olives and pickled veggies with pita stay true to the simple and flavorful Lebanese dish. We also got the beef sirloin wrap, which the large is enough to split for two especially when you get the dip plate. It's seems to be a casual dining experience with indoor and outdoor eating.

A group of us had a late lunch at Spread Kitchen to celebrate a friend's birthday after a morning of wine tasting. For most of us it was our first time visiting, and the servers were friendly and patient, answering questions and offering suggestions. We had a reservation and were seated in the back garden patio, which was such a pleasant spot on a sunny day. The trees provided natural shade and there were cute decorative items hanging along the walls and branches (for sale, I think). We ordered a couple of dip plates and apps to share across the tables. My husband and I split a grain bowl with chicken plus a side of lamb kofta, and the portions ended up being just right for the two of us. And of course we had to finish with dessert - their homemade baklava was the perfect sweet ending. Would happily return.

Spread is a cozy Mediterranean restaurant in Sonoma. I stopped by on a weeknight evening, and even though it's not a big place, it has a warm, welcoming vibe -- and the service was very fast. I ordered the grain bowl with chicken, and the portion was huge. The chicken was juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the hummus was tasty. One of the highlights for me: plenty of gluten-free options, including pita bread and even dessert! A big plus for anyone with dietary restrictions. There's a small parking lot right next to the restaurant, which makes things convenient.

Last day in town and our brothers-in-law treated us to lunch at this establishment. We selected an outside table and it was nicely shaded. We selected wraps (three different options) and I added the Vegan Dirty Fries. The service was perfect and our selections arrived quickly. My wife ordered the Kolsch to try and I had an iced tea variation with peaches. All in $125

Very refreshing dips with the most amazing falafel! I'm so glad Spread Kitchen offers smaller sized dips with all the different flavor profiles. They go through each spread by detail. All of them were super refreshing. I would highly recommend to order a side dish of the falafel. I already can't wait to be back for another visit and try more items from the menu!

What a gem - I ended up visiting this place twice on my trip to Sonoma. The backyard patio is cute and shaded enough for a hot day. There is also limited seating inside the restaurant. The food itself came quick after we ordered at the counter. Fresh, flavorful, and colorful. Every bite was a delight - the vegetarian falafel bowl was a great portion, almost enough for 2 people. The 3 dip mezze was also a great choice. My favorite was the muhammara and the feta beet dip my last. Every vegetable in the bowl felt as if it was sourced from a Farmers Market - from light green snappy bell peppers to sweet tomatoes that just popped in your mouth. I recommend this as a staple on everyones list.

I was in the area for a wine tasting, and decided to stop here for lunch. I was very pleasantly surprised with what I found. The staff was friendly, and the food was absolutely amazing. Every single dish was tasty and cooked well. The dips were a highlight!

Always my favorite restaurant in Sonoma! As always, the food is fresh and delicious and the portions are huge! Service is always quick and friendly. I love that this is such a quality meal with a casual ambiance. Whenever I have friends and family and town this is one place they have me take them to over and over!

Hands-down the best restaurant I've been to in years. If this place was in San Francisco, it would have lines out the door and around the block. Head chef and founder Cristina Topham has put together a beautiful menu with brilliant flavor combinations. The food is fresh and delicious, and despite being a lover of Mediterranean food, I've never had anything quite like this.

Two dip plate at Spread Sonoma with hummus, baba ganosh, pita, pickled vegetables and olives
Rachel H.

Truly special and Yelp-able, we discovered this unassuming casual cafe, Spread Kitchen, while nibbling on their pita chips at a local winery. The chips were so good, we decided to switch up our dinner plans and see what else Spread Kitchen was cooking up. We felt it was a sign since Spread is a women owned business, and we had just spent an afternoon at two wineries with female winemakers (Imagery and Abbots Passage.) The setting is unassuming, a small cost-effective cafe near to the Sonoma Mission Inn, with a cozy dining area, and larger outdoor garden with tables. It's casual, clean, colorful and comfortable. Even though it's a cafe, the staff came to the table to take our order. They were helpful and polite. We ordered a two dip plate with smoky, smooth baba ganoush and hummus, pickled vegetables, olives and fresh cut pita and a lamb kofta bowl with moist meat, yellow rice, fresh tabouli and more flash pickled veg. Everything was fresh, bright, and delicious. Of coarse we couldn't leave without a bag of their highly addictive pita chips! Definitely a place that hits above its weight. A treat.

Food was very fresh. They packed our order up for a picnic. Service was fast. We ate outside the restaurant so no comment on ambiance.

We must have had 4 or 5 different people serving us, no consistency. We received the burgers on a dessert plate with no room for the extra salad and fries we ordered. So we asked for bigger plates. We had to ask for serving spoons for the salad. Then, I mentioned to one of the servers that it was my friend's birthday- not a word from her. Did we want dessert? I thought at least a scoop of ice cream with a candle but no!! We ordered their deconstructed cheesecake which we would share. Had to ask for 3 plates and we were charged for the dessert which was fair I suppose as it was $13. But nothing whatsoever regarding my friend's birthday. 90% of restaurants will always try to celebrate a birthday if they are advised. All of us are locals and this is bad news for Layla's.

I really appreciate that! Do be patient because it takes time for him to make everything by himself, but it's worth it!!! Falafel Wrap $16.95 (10/5 stars) - swapped out the hummus for baba gannouj which I recommend, there are so many flavors working in harmony and everything tastes fresh, the veggies were so nice and crisp, the falafel was well seasoned Beef Gyro Shawarma Plate $25.95 (10/5) - my partner reported that this was excellent especially the grilled Lavash bread, perfectly crispy, the interior was perfectly balanced and delicious Baklava $6.99 for 2 (10000000/5) - I have eaten so much baklava and this is the best I've ever had, the separate top layer of just the filo pastry without the honey is genius, so you get a perfect crunch ratio to the part soaked in honey, if you have to get 1 thing I recommend this Arabic/Turkish Coffee (5/5 stars) - it was on the house which next time he better let me pay, this is what coffee should taste like, none of that water down American coffee, straight coffee in it's purest densest form, no additives or spices, pure shot of coffee Overall, he got 2 new customers.

The chicken shawarma was the star--super juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. You can really taste how well-seasoned and moist the chicken is. The falafel shawarma was also really good. Falafel can naturally be a bit dry, so maybe a little extra sauce would make it even better, but overall the wrap had great flavor and fresh veggies. The veggie wrap was delicious too. It comes with avocado and a mix of fresh vegetables. Avocado with falafel is actually a great combo. All the sauces were amazing--the tzatziki, the red sauce, and the toum (garlic sauce). They're full of flavor and elevate the wraps so much. Also salad is exceptional, I'm not normally a salad person but I finished this salad in a minute. The customer service was exceptional. Sam was incredibly kind and cooked everything right in front of me. It took a few extra minutes, but you could tell he was putting real care into every order. Since it was my first time, he even gave me a spinach pie for free, which was really sweet of him--and it tasted great. Overall, highly recommend checking out Sam's Mediterranean. Amazing food, great service, and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
