Never rushed me, always gave honest advice. Ended up buying my racket there and they hooked me up with free strings + super good recommendations on tension and strings for my game. Staff was incredibly nice, especially the manager Alex - that guy knows his tennis and genuinely wants to help. You can tell he loves what he does. If you play tennis, go here. Love Sport's Basement! I used to go to Rei all the time in Huntington Beach but ever since this one opened in Long Beach, it's all I go to! Like Rei, they have a one time membership as well and a great return policy. The staff is also really knowledgeable and helpful..the store is also huge! It took over the sears so there's 2 floors. My husband comes here to buy all of his gear. He buys shoes, runner wear, bike wear and more. They have bike rides often and if you participate you get a discount for purchases. Employees are nice and very helpful. I've noticed that prices are higher than other locations. Overall great place for your next hiking or athletic needs. read more

I'm not an outdoor person but I am a runner and they have a great assortment of running shoes. They have other items such as shorts, socks and tops to go along. From what I can see they have a large bicycle section with bikes for kids and bikes for the hardcore riders. A lot of camping equipment as well. This was the old Sears building so it's huge and you could easily spend a couple of hours just walking around and seeing all the items they have to offer. First visit to Sports Basement in Long Beach and I'm impressed with the selection. It's in a big shopping plaza with easy parking, and the store is spacious, well-organized, and easy to navigate. The first floor is all camping, bikes, and travel gear, and the second floor had exactly what I needed: kids' soccer socks for $4.99, which felt like a steal. I also noticed they have a third floor for public events that you can reserve for free, which is a really cool community touch. I'm giving it 4 stars because the customer service was the weak spot. I went on a Friday midday, and every time I looked up for help at a counter or register, employees seemed distracted and on their phones, so the vibe wasn't very welcoming. I've been frequenting Sports Basement Long Beach for about a year now and at this point, I'm there about once a month. Before they reached out about hosting backpacking clinics and workshops, I wasn't familiar with the brand. And now? I'm a Basementeer! This store is massive and includes three full floors of outdoor joy. The first floor is all retail and they truly have everything: Dodgers gear, running shoes, skis, backpacking tents, stoves, sleeping bags, nutrition, apparel... you name it. The second floor is a mix of retail and dedicated community space which is where we've held our backpacking workshops. And then there's the top floor, which is a huge open space used for pickleball and other fun activities. This place is an outdoorsy dream come true. The prices are great, the service is consistently fantastic, and their Basementeer membership program is one of the best deals out there. Plus they offer rentals, which makes gear so much more accessible. I've loved teaching here, shopping here, and just being part of the community they've cultivated. And now that there's a new South Bay location even closer to home? I'm ecstatic. Sports Basement took the place of a former Sears. I've been in a couple of times to take a look around and check it out. The entire 3rd floor is all pickle ball courts which is pretty cool! I went again today (11/29/25) to check out the "holiday fair" that was hosted by The 908 Magazine. They had small businesses and a couple of beverage options. The fair was a bit underwhelming which was a bummer because it's conveniently located right by my house and I was hoping to do a little shopping for Christmas. Perhaps next year will be better (if they decided to do it again). If you're looking for water bottles, apparel and such it's worth a stop to see what they have. read more

Great selection and plenty of choices. They offer a wide variety of snow gear, bikes, clothing, outdoor activity equipment. The Service was excellent. Staff was very helpful and ready to answer any questions. Price wise it's a bit on the expensive side but the quality of the products makes it worth it. You definitely get good value for your money. They also have open play pickleball courts available on the 3rd floor. It can be reserved free of charge but requires you to sign up for a Basementeer membership (currently free in store) and sign an activity waiver. read more

I didn't come to shop. I came through to support my community's pickleball tournament. And to be honest, I thought it was a gym of some sort, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out it's a whole store with all kinds of workout and sports gear as well as a play area. And that play are is no joke. It was big enough to accommodate my community team's need for 5 pickleball courts. There was also space for snacks and drinks But there was still plenty of room for more courts. I noticed a table with a chess board set up for those who might wanna play. There was also a piano, which I thought was a bit out of place, but... why not, right?! I was already here so I did a quick run-through for their products, and the ultimate verdict is: IT'S VAST. They have anything and everything you need sports-related. I was on a strict schedule so I didn't really have time to shop, but when I return, I don't plan on leaving empty handed. My eyes caught a few things to buy for moi as well as give as gifts. FYI: There is a fee to rent the spaces for play. No reservations - first come first serve only. It's hard to say that about every (or any for that matter) commercial retail business. I've also brought my bike in for a couple of tune-ups and have had nothing but great experiences each time. I really enjoy the investment in the community that SB does. They have everything you could think of. Well payout and spacious and height . Friendly & helpful customer services. They have all 4 seasons gears and sports equipments. It's a mini mall size from my POV. Cause it keeps going and going. Definitely will comeback to get more equipments since it's nearby and my kid needs some basketball & baseball gears for sure. So glad this place opened up! It's HUGE with so much space. And like the other SoCal location, it has a great, knowledgeable staff. I came in looking for a snowboard and helmet and everyone I talked to had so much knowledge on the sport, just from personal experience and others. I bought my board and am excited to try it out. Their selections seem to be better as well. I'm a short size, so I actually saw more short bib selections than the other places. The value is about the same. Very reasonable with all things considered. It's not a discount shop, but their last-season items are decently priced as well. I love coming here and so does my dog! read more

Sports Basement is a great addition to Long Beach. It's a huge store with both sports and outdoor equipment. They seem to mostly stock higher end brands, and the prices reflect that. However they do price match and if you're a Basementeer they offer you the 10% discount off of the price matched price! In addition to sports and camping gear, clothing, bikes, and more they have a third floor mixed use space. It is available for free for community events and I've been to a few events there and I've seen plenty more. Everything from small gatherings of girl scouts putting together care packages to huge events which take up the entire floor. When not in use for an event, there are five pickleball courts, a number of pool tables, ping pong tables, and other assorted sports equipment available to use for free. My friends and I were there a couple of times a week during the summer to play pickleball when it was too hot outside. It does get warm on the third floor, but it's definitely better than being out in the hot sun getting sunburned. The floors are concrete, so they can be a little tough on your joints, but the fact that the courts are free is a HUGE bonus to the community. They have an equipment rental program if you just need someonething for a short time or want to try it out before you buy it. For pickleball paddles they also offer a try before you buy program where you can rent a paddle and then apply your rental fee toward a paddle purchase once you find the one you like. They also have an excellent return policy if something doesn't end up working out. read more

Nearly everyone at this store is awesome! However, there was a girl at the cash register who just looked bothered to be helping me. I purchased a pair of cycling shoes and decided the next day that I wanted to exchange them for a different color. I went to the store the following day, and she was at the counter and the person who helped me. I informed her that I wanted to exchange the shoes for the same brand but in a different color. She said okay, and when I asked if I could leave the pair I had already purchased with her while I looked for the new pair, she reluctantly accepted the shoes. When I came back, I realized they didn't have the color I wanted in the size I needed. I asked her if she could check whether another location had the pair, and she got on the phone and said that no one had them in Southern California it was only Northern California. She then told me she could email me an invoice and have them shipped to me within 1-3 days. At this point, I was a little frustrated because I already knew that a local Sports Basement had a pair in stock, but I thought there might be another location closer to me. When I took a second to confirm that she had sent me the invoice, she told me I could complete the purchase without being at the store. I left, checked online, confirmed that the Sports Basement I already knew about still had them in stock, and went there and picked them up. read more

This is beyond the nicest store I've been into! I had three employees ask me how I was doing, and if I needed help during my time, browsing the downstairs area. Restrooms are very clean on the second floor as well! When leaving, the employee who helped me check out wish me a good day. The inside is very neat and organized. Sales are clearly listed on all items. Good selection between male and female clothes as well as name brands and more unknown brands. Some clothing items are pricey, but they have a good sale selection. Looking forward to coming back. read more

I had the best shoe-shopping experience ever with Pat this morning. My wife and I both needed new running shoes, and we have been running for decades. We know what we wanted, and Pat was knowledgeable and helpful. He used to work at Runner's High before joining Sports Basement. Most of the shoes seem significantly less expensive than Big 5 or Runner's High. I used to get my shoes from Road Runner on 2nd Street, but I've found my new favorite shoe place. I can't believe some of the reviewers complained about the music. The playlist has some of the best 80's hits. We felt like we've been transported back in time to our high school years. The store is also very dog-friendly. You can bring your leashed dog everywhere inside. My dog even got a treat from the staff. read more

It was my first time snowboarding, and I needed all the outerwear: waterproof jacket, pants, base layers, gloves, goggles, etc. After looking around, I found that Sports Basement was the only local place that offered clothing rentals. Most other places only rent boards, but this place has both, which was a huge plus. I headed to the back where the rentals are, and Alex greeted me warmly. I'll admit, I was a little anxious walking in as a complete beginner, but Alex immediately put me at ease. He was incredibly helpful, patient with all my questions, and took the time to walk me through everything I needed. He even shared information about other services they offer. We've visited the Sports Basement in Fountain Valley before, so we were excited to see a location a bit closer to us--now if only they'd open one in the SGV (hint hint)! This spot is huge, taking over what used to be a Sears, and even has a pickleball court on the third floor. Glad they finally populated the old sears space. Since it's the old Sears, it's a huge space. It's so big they even have a pickleball court inside that looks like you can test your gear! Selection looks solid, and seems like it's probably still growing. Winter stuff is coming out, big bike area and a large shoe section on the second floor. -1/2 star for the music being annoyingly loud. Otherwise keep up the good work! read more

Um, hello! Where has Sports Basement been all my life?! My family and I entered Sports Basement on a whim on our way into TJ Maxx (next door) and boy were we blown away. This store has everything you could imagine needing for outdoor adventures: clothing, gear, shoes and even rentals! The staff on the 2nd floor helped us browse the Hoka selection & despite it being our first time there, they treated us as if we were regulars. I'm so glad I discovered this place right around the holidays because now I'm excited to return when I am not in a state of financial ruin (LOL). yall got a hater for a cashier- little girl with the iridescent pointer finger ring has an attitude about selecting from the charity list when you sign up for the membership. Everything was great until I checked out. now I understand why Andrew came down to check me out. I asked the cashier to speak with a manager. instead of a positive reaction from the cashier, I got judgement and indirect responses. I wanted to give a praise report about Andrew in shoes. He helped me so much during my shopping experience and alleviated so much anxiety for me. Such a cool store and only found out about it because of good ole Instagram. For some reason, my IG's algorithm heard me talking about pickle ball because as soon as I was swiping up watching reels, this came up. The store is located in a plaza right next door to Lazy Acres supermarket. It is huge and reminds me of a Dick's sporting goods. As soon as you walk in, there is a donation table for the LA County fires. So if you need to drop any essentials off, this is a place to do so. Throughout the store, there are sale racks of apparel and essentials needed for camp, sports, and recreation. There is a great selection of marked down items for yoga. I had my eye on a few things and hope they are there on my next visit. There is a total of three floors of greatness. On the top floor, there is a HUGE pickle ball court. You can rent the equipment and sign a waiver by scanning a QR code. I am going to continue to watch some YouTube videos before I try this out. So many things to see and so many things to buy. If you are an outdoorsy person, this is the place to be. Selection and service is great here. You will definitely find what you need. read more

Extremely disappointed by the employees at the store. My husband and I noticed this store as we had to go next store to get some items and we both were excited to see what they had. Very REI vibes with things like Patagonia, Hoka's, sporting equipment. The building itself is 3 stories and the sales associates in the shoe area were very pleasant which is why they even get any stars. We decided to buy two pairs of Hoka's and per the signs on the shoes, it looked like they were on sale. Never having been to the store before we didn't know that they have their own rewards card that gives you discounts off on items. So we took our shoes to the front to check out and the price of the shoes were full price. We asked the cashier in the front who said that the items were not on sale and called someone on the phone to ask. She didn't even tell us yes or no and just said " this is ur total ". Then we had to ask again, was it on sale? And she rolled her eyes and just said nope. No explanation no nothing. We went to take a picture of the shoes showing the sale price and went back in line. Another cashier told us that the deal listed was in fact not a sale price but the price they offer if u join their reward program. We understood and thanked her, spent over $300 on the shoes and I asked if I could get the name of the other girl because she was rude. That is when the tone of the other girl changed and she told me that they do not have names. The receipt showed her name as Elliotte. I asked for a manager to just let them know that explaining things to brand new customers would be more beneficial than the attitude the other girl gave. Was told by Elliotte that the store also has no manager and bye! Have a nice day and u can leave. I called the corporate number who advised that they did in fact have a manager and they advised for me to go inside and ask for them per their helphub who is requiring it. We spoke with the manager, John I believe who apologized for the rude service and we calmly just let him know that new customers won't understand their stores lingo and a little kindness would have gone a long way. He thanked us for not being rude, yelling or acting unreasonable and we declined anything further. We weren't looking to get a free deal we were just really bothered by the girls and their attitudes. But we won't be coming back here and will just drive the extra 15 minutes to go to REI where the customer service is great. read more

Came here looking for a gym bag for my gear. I walked in asked the girl at the front desk and she said go upstairs and someone will help you. I walked around the whole floor twice and not one associate on the floor. I'll stick to REI and Amazon to buy my gear. This place is huge and can't imagine they make enough money to break even.
