Great store with decent prices. For some reason I always find new shoes here. They have most sporting goods that you would need and they have a great selection of shoes and caps. The service is decent and I can definitely see that they try to give you a good experience. The shop is a bit worn down and crowded but I would take that any day compared to paying premium prices somewhere else for the same thing. I went to get racquetball Racquets. There was only two out and one was very expensive. I got a child's tennis raquet for the second because I'm just a beginner. I asked the girl cashier and she said,"we have whatever's out there.". I asked if the child's tennis raquet would work and she just shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't see why not. I asked if she had any in inventory and she said," we have a lot of things in inventory," but did not offer to check. read more

We came here to get some supplies for our kayaking trip. I came to buy some water shoes, trunks, and a towel. I found exactly what I was looking for, and them some. The aqua shoes were Speedo, and were actually quite comfortable the entire time I wore them. The trunk fit well, and did their job in the water. The towel design was not to my liking, but it did it's job anyway. I also got a cap, which I do not normally wear. But it did a good job of keeping the sun out of my eyes, while wicking away the sweat on this hot summer day. The prices here are above average of what you would find elsewhere, but the quality is decent. I was comfortable throughout my time kayaking, and my gear withstood my intense workout that day. The next time that I'm in need of outdoor or workout equipment, I will give this Big 5 a chance. read more

I know is being here for maybe a little bit over 2 decades (that is how long I been coming to this location). The customer service has always been good, and HONEST which is the part I appreciate the most. I don't like being rushed, or pushed into a sale, I stopped going to places like that. The good: I got knee, elbow and wrist pads here for roller blading but one of the pads were a different design and color than the rest of them (1 piece out of the 6). This was from a different location but this store accepted the return (I got store credit not a refund). The bad: We were able to return our mixed up pads without a receipt (because we lost it) but we lost $7 somehow even though we just bought the pads a few days prior. Perhaps the price dropped recently. They didn't have any pads available here in the size we wanted. They had few options for this. I found comfy Adidas slides I wanted here but they didn't have my size. They only had 1 weighted vest here and the box was busted. The interesting: They sell kites, slides, snorkel gear, camping gear, hiking shoes, sports balls and much more. The interior of every Big 5 store I've seen in the last 2 years is pretty outdated. It looks like an old sports store you'd see in the late 1980s or early 1990s. I always imagine being a kid and coming here with my dad in the early 90s when I enter one of these stores. read more

The great thing about Big 5 is there is a great selection of all sorts of sporting goods. From running to camping to baseball and football. Plus many other sports. They have a lot of cool little things you cannot find anywhere else. They cover all bases when it comes to selection. They have a great selection of pocket knives and air guns too. I have found this to be the best store to buy shoes. There is always a clearance on many types of shoes. The people who work here are very helpful with any and all questions you may have. Went in Sept 25th to buy some 9mm. Young, dumb, (latina?) manager couldn't have been more unhelpful, unfriendly, racist (I'm older white male), hostile, with a "take it or leave it attitude". I told her I didn't like her attitude and left....went to Turner's where I bought $400 worth. Won't be going back to this store, and judging by the lack of (paying) customers when I was there, I'm not the only one. Big 5 is a sporting goods store offering equipment from air soft guns to pickle ball paddles. If you are an amateur in a sport, this is a good place to go. If you are looking for a specific tennis racket or specific softball cleat, Big 5 may or may not carry it. Basically, they offer a small selection of items for any given sport, but have equipment for a lot of sports. They also have home workout equipment and workout clothes. Big 5 has a moderately sized shoe section with pretty good prices. Again, they don't have every shoe or brand, so as long as you aren't hoping for a very specific shoe, Big 5 should serve your needs. Was sold the wrong .22 ammo , ammo sales rep wasn't available for 3 days , came in today for them to tell me its final sale. And I would have to call customer service . Wish they would've told me that over the phone. I wouldn't recommend going here for any ammo very unprofessional , and not knowledgeable.The Latina girl who helped me asked me for my debit card and ID, which there was no need for that when you denied return without looking in the computer makes no sense . Small store but it has tons of good stuff. This store carry lots of products for your outdoor, sport, and other activities. Although they carry small items and not a lot of choices to choose from but for those who only want temporary or items to use for short term, this store will have something for you. The location is inside a small shopping plaza with a few restaurants to choose from. There's also a car wash area where you can have your car washed and shop while waiting. Parking is free and lots of spaces so you won't have to wait or circle around to find parking. read more

This 5-star review is for Daniel! We drove 13 miles from the Huntington Beach store to purchase binoculars. The HB store had the binoculars that we ended up purchasing but the staff wouldn't even acknowledge us. So we hopped on the 405 and headed to Long Beach. Daniel was very solicitous from the moment we walked in the door. He greeted us with a smile. Told us he'd be right with us, as he needed to retrieve the keys for the display cabinet. We were able to examine and compare binoculars, then make our purchase. In less than 7 minutes, we were out the door ready to enjoy our binoculars. I do hope management acknowledges Daniel after we post this review. Daniel gets it. You are selling more than sporting goods. You are selling a customer experience. Unlike the HB store, Daniel made us feel welcomed and delivered service with a smile from start to finish. We walked out of the store with ear-to-ear smiles and ready to enjoy our binoculars. The store is packed with not the right stuff. Go for Lizardskin for my sons bat and they have a couple packs of some Rawlings tape. Don't have the bats my kid uses (or any of the local kids), etc. It's packed with stuff, just not the right stuff. The hunting and camping section is good. So would recommend that. For all other major sports equipment, save a trip, and go to Dicks in Cerritos. read more

The worst customer service! After we had both picked out 3 pair of sneakers, the sales guy Jacob tells us that we better resume tomorrow b/c they are now closed! The manager had told him to help us because they were going to close and then he suddenly disappeared for the next 15 while we sat there waiting for him. I sadly had to return some swim goggles from another store, as water kept coming in from my temples no matter what I did. Mike the manager offered to help me and noticed I needed a child's size goggle and found a pair that he thought was the correct fit! Low and behold they were, as no water came in as I swam laps for an hour! I am ecstatic and very grateful to Mike. Even with other goggles, if I kept the water out, my face became bruised as they were so tight. While this might seem trivial to some, to me it cinched my ability to swim without having to stop and readjust goggles or find a high end pair...somewhere over the rainbow... I have been to this Big 5 when I lived closer but will go out of my way now to go here first. I believe customer service comes from the top and Mike is an exemplary manager, which was also reflected in other staff who were also very helpful and engaging! read more

She seemed to handle the situation well and was polite to customers afterwards. I was ready to kick the guy out myself along with some other customers I talked to when asking what was happening. I always come to Big 5 promise Sporting Good means they always have what I need and it's always at a reasonable price also get all my shoes here. Today I came in for a bit of snow gear cuz for the first time in about 5 years I decided it was time to go skiing and I found that they don't carry anything about an XXL guy being a big guy it kind of was disappointing like I was a second class citizen like they don't think that big people do anything in the snow or want to carry anything for the larger people. Disappointed it seems like with the overweight epidemic America is facing that larger size clothing would be more common but it seems that some people still don't want to carry for us. The bald man behind the counter of the guns decided to give me pricing for different kinds of fishing licenses. Next, he had the audacity to tell my parents that they could fish for free, but pay $1500 if they get caught fishing illegally. What a joke! Their excuse for this was they got shoplifted and had a bad day. I will admit it: I don't know anything about sporting goods stores...however, even I knew this one sucked. Very small, couldn't find any employees, small selection. I was looking for a mouthguard so my teeth don't become teef, and I found exactly one kind, in adult and kids' sizes. One kind. Nike. Not even boil and bite. And it looked shitty. They did have a couple kinds of quad skates, albeit shitty ones; ladies, if you're looking for a cheap pair of high-top skates you don't care if you trash, they have a pair for $25. There were also quad skates labeled "roller derby skates," which they most definitely were NOT: skates attached to hard plastic ankle bindings? This is the antithesis of what derby skates should be. Lying liars. However, they do carry Fox 40 whistles, a favorite of refs. And the parking lot sucks. read more

Trainer: Well, go get some. We have this conversation at least once a week for....I don't know almost 6 months. So finally I walk into this Big 5 location, only because I was at nearby Charo Chicken. Now, for being a small location they really stock up with a lot of sporting goods and apparel. I prefer to buy workout clothes for much less, and honestly if you want to pick up some name brand stuff like Adidas or Reebok you can go to Nordstrom's Rack and pay a lot less. But let's get back to Big 5..... The sales guy was helpful, but not a nuisance. I got exactly what I asked for....to be shown where the weight-lifting gloves are. I didn't want a sales talk, I didn't need a hard sell and I didn't need him to point out that my gloves were on sale. Why can't more sales people be like this? Even though it was near closing time, they were very courteous and let me wrap up my shopping without being rushed. I wish they were more affordable because I'd love to come back more often. I'm just too much of a bargain shopper. Trainer will be so impressed with my new gloves. read more
