Ordered parts for a customers boat repair. Supposed to be next day delivery on their van, but I guess they didn't feel like delivering today. So they just blew it off, now my customer is all pissed off at me. Had to explain how it was just a crappy supplier issue. I wont every count on any delivery from them. This is horrible! My husband had a bad experience twice today. The only reason why went back the second is because the West Marine in Lake Havasu said they had the part. I called and Adam said he would hold it for my husband. My husband words. I've been standing here for about 7 min the olde dude just keeps walking past me not even asking me if I need help. I'm standing right at the parts counter desk! A older white woman walks in and old man goes right up to her. My experience here was great. After enjoying my kayak purchased at Sport Chalet in 2001 for more than 20 years... it was time to upgrade. I found the kayak I wanted on WestMarine.com, and purchased two of them for delivery to the store. My boats arrived early, and the associate called to let me know they were in. When I arrived at the store, the clerk directed me to the back counter to gather the order paperwork, and the fellow back there walked me to the front where I paid. The staff at the Long Beach West Marine are incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. Colleen, Grace, Bodie, and J.C. have been particularly helpful to me in the past 3 years that I have been shopping there to maintain my Catalina 36. In addition to having a comprehensive selection of boating merchandise, West Marine provides an invaluable service to the boating community, acting as a sort of American Express office/refuge for traveling boaters. If the prices on some items are a little higher than on Amazon, it is worth it to me to pay a little more for the additional peace of mind that they provide. I have traveled to many of the California West Marine locations since becoming a boat owner, and they all have their own personalities (all positive), but the Long Beach store strikes a perfect balance of store size, merchandise selection, and customer service. As extra bonuses for me, they are right down the dock from my boat, a short walk to a terrific breakfast/lunch place (Schooner or Later), and right next door to my yacht club, the Seal Beach Yacht Club. I'd make it 5 stars, but they aren't always able to keep all of my electrical connectors, wire sizes/colors, or plumbing connections in stock. The rest are absolute crap, I called 20 min before arriving and was placed on hold during that time I was driving there. No one answered but yet there were a lot of workers on staff. Over priced under stocked has always been a problem here. And I accept it till today!! I ordered a part online, they sent me a different part, same thing but the generic version. Not what I ordered not what I payed for. Came back in to ask about it obviously not happy about it especially after it taking 5 days to get it. Ask what the deal this is not what I ordered I ordered a IMTRA windless control box, ordered online part number matched the picture matched but what was sent was a different manufacturer different wiring layout. Just not what I ordered. So I'm told that what you get when I enter that part number. I say to the lady I'm dealing with, that all fine and dandy but it's still not what I ordered it's not what west marine represents on the website, this lovely woman saint to me "what do you want me to put a IMTRA sticker on it would that make you happy" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! No I just want what I ordered if you don't have it or can't get it done but don't waste a week of my summer vacation and make an ASSHOLE COMMENT like that to me. Complete garbage of a store. I only keept going back because it's 10 minutes from my area and i kept thinking they would change my mind. When you buy items online they never check them in, so you end up having to rebuying them later at full price if you caught them on sale. When items do arrive they inform you that they are ready for pick up, but once you show up there's nothing there. I went inside the store with my dad. Due to current events, they have a 10 person limit in the store, which is understandable. So I waited at the sign. The older lady employee advised me to go wait outside. I thought that was because they were at their 10 person limit. I saw 2 people leave the store. So I asked a different employee if I can come in and was okayed. The same lady then kicked me out of the store like I didn't follow the rules. She should have clearly and stated that it was one person per party. I'm not a mind reader. I work in corporate retail and understand our practices of safety and social distancing. Came in to exchange a radar that was bought in their other store in marina del Rey less threat inside came loose so we called to check if they had it in stock and they did so we drove down to get it exchange part of their still on-going return no hassle guarantee than two weeks ago. Had receipt with me and everything. But once it came time they didn't want to exchange it because they wanted to check Garmin warranty for once thread that wasn't there. Absolutely no customer service. "Sales" guys walked past me 3-4 times as I was looking for the caulking section. NO ONE asked if they could help. Yes, I could have asked for assistance, but in most stores folks are going out of their way to be helpful. This was my second visit to this location, and it brought back bad memories of the first. Found what I needed, and had to interrupt the cashier to get my order taken care of. The moment the charge went through, she disappeared. Tracked her down to ask about the location of a nearby restaurant. She responded with "Don't know it." And that was the end of the conversation. Today I got a pole with a wash mitt at the end. It's great for washing my SUV. The other day, I got some marine epoxy to make repairs to areas of my shower that get wet often. I asked if I had called the LB store and was told "if that's the number you called" I then asked if they carried a line of heaters at that particular store that I had seen on their website. " I need a part number" I asked if this was the store and not a parts warehouse " no this is the store and I've worked here for 20 years so I should know". You're coming here to buy wax cleaner's clothing fishing equipment I'd give this a five star for the customer service. If you're coming here for technical advice and some serious repair items this is one of the worst places I've ever been with very little technical knowledge. I've got some simple questions and they are trying to look it up and I could find it faster and more knowledgeable on my iPhone and what they have to say. Their expert is a one trick pony he could be only one thing at a time and gets confused if you ask him more than one question at a time. I was in need of a part for a mercury outboard motor. I had the mercury part number which is not how they reference parts. The woman said that I needed a Sierra part number, for a mercury part. How the heck am I supposed to know that. I then said that I did not know that and she hung up on me. I called back to complain about her lack of professionalism when someone transferred me to her. She then denied hanging up on me and minimized her behavior. Because she refused to at least admit that she was wrong I will now unsubscribe to their emails and I will never again buy anything from them. Was in a pinch , my new boats gas plug ( into the tank) was malfunctioning. We could not even take our new boat out. Went to west marine service dept and all 3 counter men helped with installing the hard to get off fuel tank control valve. They were busy on a Sunday and helped us with a smile! Was impressed. Customer service is terrible! The guy didn't offer help to my husband. My husband had the model number of what he was looking for but told, "oh yah, but it won't help!" What? Don't waste you're time line was over extended just to ask for assistance. My husband had to say, "hey some help needed there's a line out here." Someone popped there head out went back in then came out. Weird and sad. Only come here as a last resort. I myself heard a woman checker at the front tell a man who had a question, "Go ahead with your question if it's short and to the point." Even the person being checked out looked at the man and the checker in shock. I've only been here one other time not realizing I wasn't wearing a mask. "Hello" shouted the cashier. I looked around and said hello. They cashier looked around giggling like he did something grandiose. They said do you have a mask, to which I gladly went to my car to get one. Very convenient if you have a boat in Alamitos Bay as it's right on the perimeter. The staff is always helpful and considerate of your needs, they won't try to up sell you. I have been a loyal customer and purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise ( fish finders, gps 's, radar, clothes, tackle, etc) from this place over the past 25 years but i will no longer be shopping there as a result of my last experience . This past Friday, Oct 13, 2017, around 12:45 i was purchasing a replacement light bulb for my boats bow running lights. I was in line at the check out and one person was ahead of me. The cashier - which BTW was the general store manager Kathy- finished with him and i was next. Instead of helping me, she picked up the phone and went on into a lengthy conversation on the phone while i stood there with one item to be rung up. i waited for a couple minutes and then realizes she wasn't going to help me and continued talking on the phone. i then put the item down and said if you're going to be rude like that and give me no service, i will take my business elsewhere. i got no response from her. she just looked at me and ignored me. i then was walking out the door when a customer in the other checker line observed what happened and said " they have done that to me before." i then left and proceeded to call the district manager Mr Richards. i addressed with him what happened and he said he will call me back after he called the store. Richards shortly call me back and confirmed that it was the actual "top general store manager" Kathy who rendered the rude and horrible "non service." Basically what i got from the district manager was "sorry;" after wasting my time and money that day and all the money i have spent at that store over the past 25 years - "sorry." that's it. well i guess i can only reciprocate that "sorry" and say sorry, i will no longer be doing business with you. there is plenty of competition out there that has even better and more reasonable prices and the service is much better and respectful. sorry, you just lost a good customer Kathy / Richards / West Marine. read more

My bad experience with west marine is not the retail customer service but the products build under the "west marine" brand such as their inflatable boats. I bought the model SB 275 with the plus product protection plan, right after the protection plan expired my inflatable started to come unglued. their explanation; "exposure to the sun deteriorates de material" after I told them that I store this boat in a closet and gets sun light few hours a week on the summer. now, the whole bottom need to be re-glue and the quote that I got was $750.!! with $50 more I`ll buy it new again!! so my boat is worthless! who in their right mind would spend that money to fix it?!! I hope this review discourage future boaters from buying inflatables with their brand as they're not build to last. Any body wants a free inflatable unglue boat? read more
