I came in to buy a new shirt to replace my old one that was stained. I've been a customer for some time, as I grew up in Seal Beach. After this experience, I won't be returning. The boy at the front (the receipt listed his name as Nate), and the girl standing with him were more interested in chatting with each other than actually guest servicing. The boy called me, to his friend, "f*cking disgusting" for wearing a mask and was determined to cut me off the entire time I was checking out. At this point I didn't even want the shirt because I was so disgusted by this boy's behavior, but I felt too threatened by this boy to walk out on the transaction or to ask for a return on the spot. I went back to my car and had a panic attack, it took me two weeks before I was able to go drive all the way back to Seal Beach to make the return because I was so scared that this boy was going to be the one working again. Fortunately, when I did make my return, the young man at the front (the receipt listed his name as Cole) and his associate were both super friendly and polite, and they are the only reason this review did not get the bare minimum rating of one star. read more

Beautiful store and friendly service. The women's clothing selection is a little small but they have a great selection on men's clothes, hats, etc. We were visiting from Santa Cruz after Christmas and my son and husband who are avid surfers asked their thoughts in heading to Church in San O to surf. They warned us to get there at 5:00am to avoid the car line. To our delight there was no line all day! My boys were also pleasantly surprised the walk was only 10 mins instead of a mile and a half they mentioned. Thank you so much for giving us great advice! read more

I was living in Seal Beach on Mar Vista in 1962 when Rich Harbour first opened. I was 14 years old and Rich was 16 or 17. What a time to surf at the Seal Beach Pier and the Power Plant! Ole had just moved to Hawaii and Jack Haley hadn't opened his shop. Harbour was getting blanks from Clark Foam and I don't know when Walker Foam opened. He shaped his own boards and we watched him do it and even add stringers to the blanks. History in the making! read more

Harbour surfboards is a southern California institution. Just look up the history on their website and any surf museum. Located in the central part of Seal Beach just a few minutes off the 405, you can easily find metered parking and check out the shop during their business hours. Entering the shop, you'll find is all kinds of Harbour branded clothing, as they pushing the brand quite a bit. A lot of is actually quite nice, and features some awesome caps and tees. A lot of surf shops do this, but their designs stick out. They've got all kinds of flips flops, and trendy Southern California beach clothing. Plenty to keep you looking good. However, this shop isn't a clothing shop. It's a surf shop. They have wetsuits of all kinds, roof rack items, leashes, and a sample of the several surfboards from their entire line. If you're here to shop for surfboard, note that they have some wonderful longboards. They also have a small selection of used surfboards. I personally have wanted the banana or San-O for a long time. However, the prices are what hold me back. They make me cringe, and I wish they were much, much lower. Despite the wonderful craftsmanship, I can't shell out $1200 for a board. It's too painful, but perhaps I can in the future. They can, however, get you started on a board with installments. The shop sales folks were more than helpful in explaining that, and also explained to me that the boards were top notch. I saw this after exploring several other shops, and realizing that their polyurethane boards with thick cloth made for a board that was less resistant to scratches and dings. I understand now that's how some folks make for cheaper, lighter boards. Overall, I had a good experience here despite board cost. I would come back here, and even check out their Board Swap. It's basically a swap meet for surfboards. Come early if you do, otherwise you may be left eating it. read more

I have been here a few times and they have always been very friendly. Decent selection of quality goods... I went here to buy a tailgate pad for my surfboard but I wasn't sure if it would work (I have a short bed and a longboard...). Can't agree more that aloha abounds here....these guys rock the lineup! If you want to know anything about surfing...product, weather, boards...anything, this is the place to come to. I've bought 3 sticks from Harbour, all of which were beautifully crafted and highly cherished in the water. And they were sold to me by guys who are super passionate about surfing and DON'T sound like Spicoli when they're talking to you. These boards aren't cheap, though, so if you are looking for a bargain, do your research on craigslist. When you get a board from Harbour it is worth every cross step and tip ride in the sun! I just bought a wetsuit here the other day and they had to order it for me from O'Neill. The initial transaction started over the phone, but my wetsuit was at Harbour in 2 days and I was the happiest girl in the world the day I picked it up. I love these guys!!! read more

I'm a new surfer and had a lot of questions and he was patient and gave me a lot of tips to properly use the product. He even brought out 2 boards from the back to show me an example of how to safely transport them and told me to call for help any time. 5-star service for just buying a $50 rack. I usually come to Seal Beach to either eat or surf the Pier. I have passed Harbour Surfboards for years but never stopped, well that whole not stopping thing ended yesterday. It is not very often that you can walk into a surf shop that has been located in the same spot for 55 years. It is amazing to think that Rich Harbour started shaping boards in his parent's garage and continues his works of art now out of this shop on Main Street. Harbour boards are without question known for their style, shape & performance. I walked in and was immediately taken back by the amounts of surfboards (works of art) on display. For a surfer it is like walking into an art exhibit. I got to walk around the shop and see so many boards that are truly masterpieces. I walked around the shop some more and checked out the large selection of t-shirts, hoodies & everything surfing. I ended up purchasing a few stickers for a little art project I am working on. When it came time to pay for my items I talked a little bit with the staff working about surfing. We shared surf stories and as I was walking out the door the cashier handed me a Harbour Surfboards shop sticker which I stoked and honored to have. There are many boards that I want in my quiver and having a Harbour Board is definitely one of them. Rich Harbour has been designing and shaping surfboards for 50 years. His showroom displays an endless supply of Harbour Surfboards on the floor with a massive back stock on premises. This place reeks of nostalgia as Vintage Harbours hang from the ceiling. You can still find Rich in the back of the shop shaping as well as tinkering with new ideas. His bay is actually the oldest running shaping room at a single location in the world! The Harbour Surfboards shop employees all surf and are very helpful. A scribbled surf report on a dry erase board greets you just inside the doorway. Since the shop sits just up the street from Seal Beach's Main Street Pier, local surfers are always stopping by to pick up accessories, wax, or simply shoot the breeze with the guys behind the counter. Taking a trip to Seal Beach became extra special because of the great folks and cool rental options at Harbor surf. My 12 year old daughter really wanted to try her hand at surfing and for a $20 board rental, it could not be passed up. We got to the beach late in the day and the shop is going to be closing in 2 hours. So I wasn't sure whether or not we should do the rental but Jeff made it easy. He gladly let me bring the surfboard back the next day so we could surf past the 7 p.m. closing time. They were super friendly and super helpful to us Desert Rats on the beach. However, his t-shirt was damaged. He was looking for a replacement but he never made it back here. I was back in the area for Thanksgiving weekend and found the same one! This store has quality (not quantity) men's clothing - nicer surf brand clothing. It is a small store and I always find a few things here for my guys & my young lady. Women's clothing is limited to Seal Beach hoodies, flip flops & some accessories (but there are quite a few women's clothing stores on Main street). I just started taking surf lessons and got a board but needed a leash. I saw the the price of the leashes here (about $28) and told the guy I would have to check a few other stores, 'cause that was more that I was willing to pay. I told him I was just starting and I had just got a board and was on a budget. He was so cool, he gave me %10 off, that lowered it to where I was comfortable buying the leash. He also threw in a wax. We were just recently in the area and couldn't pass up the great surf at the pier. But we had decided not to lug E's long board down from the bay area this time, so what to do? Enter Harbour Surfboards shop. They are everything you'd expect from a surf shop and then some. From hard to come by surf mags, clothing, wax, rentals and other gear to full on custom made boards, they got you covered. The guys behind the counter were super friendly and seemed happy to be there, even though you knew they'd rather be down at the pier catching some waves. They helped us with everything we needed and we even swapped favorite places to eat in the area. E wasn't thrilled they only rented foam tops, but you'd be hard pressed to find something else as a rental. The boards they had were in great shape and looked barely used. We got out to enjoy the surf and fun was had by all thanks to Harbour! read more

I am not a customer only because they have a good reputation in the local community, but because I actually enjoy being a customer. Staffers are friendly, KNOWLEDGABLE, and professional, even on their worst of days. These guys actually know their stuff because they use their stuff. Every line represented in their store is there for a reason, whether it be value, quality, or simply the best on the market. I wish more small businesses took after the ethic Rich Harbour has implemented... if they did, there would be a lot more successful businesses for people to patronize. If you are in the market for anything surf related, do yourself a favor and drop in and just check them out. They don't mind if you browse, lol! I have been coming to this shop to get gear since you had to call 411 to get their phone number. You had to shop in their store cause Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet so they had no website. This is one of my favorite shops. The staff is really cool and laid back but not with attitude that you find in some surf shops. I had a Harbour board in high school. I definitely am not surfing a 5'5" board anymore but I still love this shop. Has a great selection of long boards and great selection of apparel and gear. I poke my nose in almost every time I'm on Main. If your thinking of getting a board, you can hit the water with much pride with a Harbour board. read more
