My favorite item to buy is sweatshirts. The brands are the best and good quality. If you're a fan of surf or skate brands (you know them) and that casual, beachy, SoCal vibe, stop in. Their sales are great. I try to hit them, but I'll shop here anytime I'm in the area. I always end up buying something when I walk in--whether it's for me or someone else. Everyone loves their stuff. Their products make a great present too. Large, clean, nicely organized store with a women's section and a men's section. Helpful staff. Located in the corner between Philz Coffee and J.Crew Factory. Plenty of free parking.

You won't get much customer service here and it may take you time to find your sizes or something you like...but his place is like hitting pay dirt. They also have tents outside in the parking lot. We have gotten so many great things for $10, $5, and even $1!! We usually spend at least an hour when we come looking for things. It is not very well organized inside but you will figure it out. We have purchased everything including fins, dresses, shirts, rash guards, sunglasses, blankets, hats, sunscreen, shorts and bathing suits. They have a few dressing rooms so you can try stuff on. Overall, this is the best place to come to get gear and very decent prices. Just bring plenty of time and patience and you should be able to find stuff you like.

I explained what kind of surfer I was and what kind of board I had in mind, and he suggested the shape that would be best for what I was looking for. He was out of town on vacation for a couple weeks just before I initially came to see him, so he explained that, due to the fact that he just got back into town after being gone for so long, he was really backed up with orders and that my board would take a while to finish (about 10 weeks or so). But the final product came out great. He promised a really nice board, and he delivered. Great shape, no complaints.

Honestly, I couldn't be more happy with my Paragon boards. The prices, customer service, and quality design of different styles really has me stoked on these boards. I started off with a mini Simmons and fell in love with the glide and feel of the board- it really has a fast and loose fun feel that no other board has. The prices are so reasonable that I had to try three more boards- the Retro fish, Retro nose-rider, and Hobgoblin. The retro fish has the outline that I have always loved and has worked so well in Santa Barbara and Huntington surf. I had to get the retro nose-rider because I have always wanted to learn how to nose ride a long board. On small days its really fun to take out to Bolsa or Devereux in SB and catch a million waves. The hobgoblin is a super fun board that feels just like my rusty Dwart but costs half the price. I took the Hobgoblin to El Salvador and the board really opened up in fast open faced waves with a quad fin setup. El Sal has a lot of breaks that resemble trestles with a fun face wave and cobblestone reef in which the Hobgoblin could really open up on. Overall my experience with Paragon Surfboards has been amazing because I now have a quiver of quality boards at half the price. I noticed that Ding Dr. on 5th street in HB now carries Paragon boards and you can try them out before you buy, I might have to try the different mini simms styles available :) read more

Aloha, As an old timer surfer coming from Honolulu Hawaii. I have surfed many types of surfboards and have met many icons...Buttons Kaluhiokulani...the Kalama family...the late Eddie Aikau's sister Mirah...Buffalo Keaulana..George Downing...Ed Waeale just to name a few. I was a surf intstructor at Waikiki Beach and a beach lifegaurd. These nice gentlemen are offering us the tools to keep fit and to have fun. Water/ocean recreation is one of the best conditioning we can do for ourselves mind, body and spirit. The old school Hawaiians find the ocean sea water very theraputic as part of good health. I've researched mainland surfboards and studied the surf areas. I ended up purchasing the modern 9' Nose Rider epoxy. I am very pleased with how the performance and handling. You cannot beat the price. This board is great for begginers and for an old timer like me with experience. Just get it. You won't be sorry. You'll end up with a big smile on your face. Hey this is a shout out to Alex and the crew at Paragon. The boards they have are very progressive even thought the offer some retro designs which are some of my favorites but who would know unless they hear about the people behind the products they offer.. I was looking to buy a SUP from Paragon but it was suggested that I look else where because they were not going to stay in the SUP market being so saturated at the present time.. but knowing what I wanted I was forwarded to "Alex" I asked why are you quitting the SUP market? Why can't I get a custom SUP? He did one better and sought out similar boards and forwarding me the links to what I was looking for.. Well I found the board right from one of the many links he provided saved enough dough to put towards a Mini Simons Retro and a Retro Nose Rider.. they have other progressive shapes too but I'm kinda a barnacle when it comes to trying something different but they say you can teach and old dog new tricks... Paragon is SO SICK!!, I have ridden many board's from merrick's, to patterson's and everything in between. This company has their boards on point, when I first picked up a board from them was back in 2010 it was their model of what a merrick dumpster diver would be, however, you got the same performance with out paying the "merrick" price. This is what hooked me, the year after I bought a personally shaped board from them same model, but to the specification I wanted and I couldn't beat the price. Not when a surfer can pick up a personally shaped board for 360!!'. I will continue to advocate for this company because not only are they nice group of guys, but they are also willing to accommodate your needs in a board as long as your patient and willing to wait. Thank you everyone in the Paragon Organization I really do appreciate the all the work each and everyone of you do. Surfing for 18+ yrs now. I found these guys online based out of Huntington Beach. My wife and I live and surf throughout the South Bay area so wanted to add a board to the quiver that could handle the small to mid size waves Ended up buying the "Mini Log"... I'm about 5'8 / 140lb... so I went with the 7'8" and can pick off just about every wave I go for. It's basically full size longboard with the middle taken out... so I'm able to pull off nose rides because of the volume, and so much easier to store and travel with - as appose to a full long shape.... This board is just what I was looking for. Josh & Alex were quick to get back to any questions I emailed them. After several sessions i sent over email to josh telling him thanks and how stoked i was about this new stick... beautifully glassed, rides amazing,great price. read more

It's been a year since I decided to challenge myself by literally throwing myself into the Pacific. Well to be honest, I've been stand up paddle boarding in harbors for the most part, but I occasionally go paddling in Hermosa and Bolsa Chica. I figured it was time that I step down from a SUP and try my luck at real surfing, so I went back to the Paragon guys and I bought a 9 foot longboard. The guys told me to go with the epoxy version because it would be lighter and more durable. I have to say that this board is much lighter than I expected. I can actually carry it all the way from the parking lot to the water without my arms getting tired which normally has been a big challenge for me. I've only taken it out a few times, but I'm proud to say that I actually stood up on my third wave. Woohoo! read more

I recently picked up a 5'9" weed whacker model from Paragon Surfboards. On my first session out I noticed that the board holds a line really well in pitchy surf, but the fins still release really well on top turns. I was also surprised about the built in speed and paddle power. I don't know where they have hidden the extra foam, but this thing paddles like a monster and flies down the line. This is truly a gem at this low price point, and the owners are awesome people. I am very very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend giving these guys a call if you are looking for a board in the Orange County or LA area (I hear they distribute out of Carlsbad also). Just picked up a new board for Christmas for my son...he is so stoked!!! (Too bad we hit a flat spell - figures!) I was looking for a board for my 9 yo son who has been surfing more this summer but i didn't want to drop too much just yet. I have been researching for awhile and kept coming across Paragon on CL and decided to give them a shot, mostly because of the many positive Yelp reviews (thanks!) I bought a 5'10 Hobgoblin and it was the easiest process - met the rep Peter who was amazing and answered all my questions, and directed me to the right board for us (I plan on using it too!) I just bought my second board from these guys and I have to say I'm stoked! I've been reading about the Mini Simmons craze for months now (even read Keel Nation) and have been anxious to get my hands on one. The problem is that they generally go for around $600 - $1,000 depending on the shaper. I just can't justify spending that much money for a surfboard. Anyways, I saw a kid shredding on a Paragon Mini Simmons down at Swami's one day and was inspired. When I looked the board up online I couldn't believe that it was going for $375 out the door. Needless to say I'm loving my Mini Simmons and I take it out any time the waves drop below head high. read more

I just bought my second board from these guys and I'm pretty stoked. I've been working on my fitness for the past few months in hopes of riding a shortboard again. After doing a little research online, I learned about the current Mini Simmons craze. The whole idea of going shorter but still maintaining floatation and paddling speed really appeals to me. I decided to go with the 5'4 because the next size up was a little big. I also love the blue and gold (Go Bruins!!). I recently purchased the Paragon 9' 0" Modern Noserider and I have to say I am loving it! I have paddled out at Cayucos the Central Coast and also Huntington Beach the home town of Paragon. My wave count has gone way up as a result of this smooth paddling board. Thanks Alex for all the help in choosing a board and arranging for pick up of the board! I've been seeing their boards on the wall at Wahoo's Taco's for a few months now and they looked pretty clean. After looking at their website, I was stoked to find that they had the perfect in between size board that I've been looking for. I went with a 6'11 Lil Dipper because I've been trying to transition down from my longboard. I've been riding it almost everyday for the past 2 weeks and have had some great sessions at Malib and Seal Beach jetty. I got a board for my two boys and they love it! Cameron was a great help in picking the right board. The prices was very fair and I totally understand their business motto. Normally surf shops significantly increase the price of boards -- these guys skip the shop and sell the boards at a much lower price. I found them on Craigslist but once I looked at their website I really liked their selection. We picked the "Lil dipper" and the board has been very sturdy. The epoxy material is light but tough, easy to transport, and has lasted several years without damage. read more

I became interested in these boards after seeing them all over Santa Cruz. I normally surf on the east side, but lately I've even seen a few at Steamers. My friend has one of their shortboards, but I wanted something that was a little more stable. The rep (I think Tim or Todd) was really helpful and he showed me all of the designs. I was tempted to get a longboard, but he turned me onto the mini log. It's so light and feels really strong, plus its pretty! I was looking around to get a 9' longboard for my girlfriend when I came across Paragon while searching for a "buying guide". These guys are so friendly and very helpful. They promptly answered all of my questions (which there were many) since I mainly ride thrusters and quadfish'. We got her into a 9' that she now has a blast on. Further more, I decided to pick up a 7'8" mini-log for those micro-days because I had such an awesome buying experience. These boards are clean, straight, and priced amazingly well. I first came across their SUP's at a Play It Again Sports store near my house. Then I kept seeing them in the water, so I contacted the company and tried out some of their SUP's at one of their demo days at Bolsa Chica beach. I was stoked on how light/strong their boards were, so I bit the bullet and bought one for myself and one for my wife. Each board was around $200 less than everything else I found online, and the color options were pretty good. We take them out every weekend (as long as its sunny) and we've been having a blast. read more

I've been wanting to get a retro fish for a long time now and I almost went ahead and bought one until I came across the Paragon website. I read about their Mini Simmons design which sounded like a fish but with more maneuverability (plus I loved the colors). I can't believe how much smaller this board is than my longboard, but it still floats really well. It was a weird adjustment at first, but I love how smooth this board rides. I'm really happy with Paragon. I bought a retro noserider roughly two years ago and have been thrilled with the results. I can get into waves very early and love how well this big board turns on the bottom. I always have people ask about it the beach and I tell them that the board ever broke I would buy another! Bought the 6'11" Little Dipper from Todd in Santa Cruz. Super knowledgeable guy. The board cuts sharp enough for dropping in on the waves down here in Monterey, but still enough of a long board feel to easily catch the side rails of even smaller waves. Definitely takes some adjusting as it requires a bit more of weight in the back but once you adjust your pop up to land further back you have full control all over the wave. Overall great board and seller service, 5 stars! read more

They really do have a great selection of apparel and gear, and it's quite large on the inside. The staff was also friendly during my visit. There is a small free parking lot on site, but it can be a bit challenging to exit at times when it's especially busy and people are driving fast on the freeway, since there is not a stop sign. I picked up some great limited edition Halloween themed merchandise and love it. It's basically the shop logo but done in Halloween style. We agreed upon 2 weeks being done but at the end of 2 weeks, I started texting, calling and voice-mailing. The only thing that made them respond was the call of cash burning a whole in my pocket. When I went to pick up my board, it was significantly more than what we agreed upon and already a week late. IT ALSO HAD A CLEAR WATER GLASSING LOGO GLASSED INTO THE BOARD. We never discussed them putting a logo onto a custom board. THat is ridiculous, but what do you do when they hold your board for ransom? Pay and be done. BE WARY!!! DO NOT LEAVE A BOARD WITHOUT A SIGNED AGREEMENT!! Learn from our mistakes!!
