Split Cobb (modified with crispy chicken plus buffalo sauce on the chicken)
    Richard G.

This is a great spot for when the work lunch crew can't decide on where to go. Split offers both burgers and salads and both options are equally good. There is usually a long line around lunch time but it moves fast. The food comes out fresh and hot and you can tell they use quality ingredients. It's a little bit on the pricey side but that's just par for the course for a quality lunch spot in San Francisco.

I love Split!!! Their food is made with love! My faves are the Alamo salad The smokehouse burger in a lettuce wrap And their Brussels sprouts!!! I frequently pick up lunch from there and their food is always packaged beautifully and is always super tasty!

This place can be inconsistent--it's either a hit or a miss. Depending on who's preparing your salad, you might get less protein or fewer greens. Sometimes, ingredients are missing altogether. Split needs to improve their consistency. Considering the $18 price for this salad, we should reasonably expect it to be nearly perfect.

Manager welcomed us quickly Food came out quick They had some different veggie options on menu which i found exciting because its rare to have cool menu options for vegetarians ; i got the avocado/goat/crispy cauliflower sandwich Its clean and spaciouS If this establishment wants to improve on customer satisfaction i think the manager needs to be less impatient about taking client orders especially when there are only 4 people in line that came in together.. it comes across as rude and cold. Also, his staff is cold and dry. No hello.. its just food guys, and its a lunch...

For starters, I would never order a salad for lunch, but OMG I'm so glad I did. The Split cobb salad was hella good! I opted for no bleu cheese. Their sirracha ranch dressing is amazing too. I asked for extra since it needed more dressing. The salad is also massive and u can totally eat the rest of it for dinner lol. I would definitely come back again and get my salads here! Also, I really liked their lemonade.

Great find for breakfast in SFO downtown. Great easy to customizable options of scrambled eggs and delicious slides. Quick and convenient ample seating with majority of things self-service. Food is freshly prepared and delicious. Must visit if in the area. One star taken for little room of improvement in scrambled egg but again surely above par so no complaints.

Sahara dessert, coal in your stocking, cinnamon sticks, brick wall, croutons, shredded wheat. What do all these things have in common? They are as dry as the chicken on my Sonoma Sandwich! We had Split cater our Monday business lunch recently in downtown SF. Everything seemed to be using top notch ingredients on my Sammy, side and Iced-T. But for some reason they decided to use Chicken cooked the prior week. It was just silly dry and terrible. Disappointing to be sure and I didn't have time to go out to find something else.

Thin, limp avocado toast - look how thin the bread is!

I know this is a hard neighborhood to run a restaurant right now with so much continued WFH, but I still don't think the quality of the food lives up to the prices. With tax and employee mandate charges, I paid nearly $11 for terrible avocado toast. The bread was thinner than any pre-packaged sliced bread I buy at home and completely soggy, even though I began to eat my toast within literally 2 minutes of them handing it to me (and I had not preordered, either). The avocado is just a schmear of what is basically grocery store guacamole - no whole pieces of avocado, let alone nice looking slices. And then they smother it in arugula, which makes no sense to me - I basically have to eat a cheap side salad before I get to what I actually ordered? This wasn't worth more than $5, realistically.

The way I absolutely inhaled this burger! It was absolutely delicious! Caramelized onions and the blue cheese were a unexpectedly wonderful combo! The patty was cooked perfect!

In fact, I was quite forlorn having presumed this location of Limon was permanently closed. I liked the way they prepared their pollo à la brasa because the Peruvian-style chicken was consistently succulent. I'm guessing maintaining the quality and profitability of a sit-down restaurant has been economically challenging since this was not the only Limon that has closed. I was encouraged that they kept the space and reinvented it into more of a fast food/takeout operation replete with a cartoon chicken mascot and an animated mural along the northern side of the building. I came by in the middle of a weekday afternoon, so I wasn't ready to eat on the spot. I decided on a takeout order of the $21.95 Half Chicken Pollo à la Brasa with two sides. I think I overdid the starches and went with the Plantains and Yuca Fries. I only noticed afterward that I could've gotten salad or cole slaw instead. When I got home and started to eat, I was immediately disappointed that the chicken tasted overcooked with the breast piece particularly dry. That was too bad because the skin from the rotisserie had the familiar flavorful seasonings. The plantains were tasty albeit a bit oily, while I had to nuke the lukewarm yuca fries to bring them back to life (Photo 9). Next time, I'll time my arrival closer to lunch or dinner, so I can dine in-house. My hope is that the chicken will be closer to the quality level I recall from Limon. I couldn't even wrap my head around it before I ate it and while I was eating it. I have to confess that I don't even like buffalo, the tang and that feeling in the back of your mouth that makes you want to drink a full glass of water after? I ordered "The Original" with jasmine chicken rice, extra cilantro, cucumber, chicken skin (love that those are free add-ons), and an egg, and while the bowl was fine, all of the flavors felt like they could've been amped up several notches as everything leaned pretty bland and one note. I even swapped in the ginger scallion sauce, usually my favorite with Hainanese chicken, but it still fell flat and didn't bring the dish together the way I'd hoped. The dark meat was okay, if under-seasoned, but the breast meat was honestly pretty rough as it was extremely dry to the point where I was chasing each bite with water just to get it down. I added the chicken spring rolls as well, which were poorly wrapped and fell apart after a single bite, and they used the same overcooked white meat, making them basically inedible. If this is the standard for their white meat, I really think they should either stick to dark meat or make it clear that dark meat is an option without an upcharge. That said, my order was ready right when I expected it to be, pickup was smooth, and the staff were very nice and friendly, which keeps this from dropping lower in rating as I'm likewise hoping this was just an off night.

Service is somewhat non-existent as you can only order from a kiosk, which I find a bit odd i.e. to not offer counter ordering whatsoever and ambience is very much fast casual. The main get here is the spicy fried chicken sandwich, which delivers a nice mild-to-medium heat balanced against tasty slaw and pickles. The bun strikes just the right thickness (I hate when the bread to filling ratio is way off in either direction) as it is sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart mid-bite. I'd love if they cranked up the spice a notch, but that's obviously specific to the individual. On my latest visit, I also tried the lemon pepper chicken tenders, which were a letdown and would not recommend. They had basically no seasoning (zero lemon pepper flavor but also barely any salt or pepper) and were also a bit over fried. The curly fries and tots are standard issue, nothing fancy but the mango habanero sauce was just weird as it was oddly not sweet or spicy, with an unpleasant vinegar-like consistency that I tried once and never went back for. Overall, it's a reliable stop if you're in the mood for some no frills spicy chicken sando and side spuds.
