This review is specifically for this location only. I'll probably start going to the Pine Street location from now on. I ordered the hot pastrami, and the sandwich size looked nothing like what's advertised. I've been to Lou's several times before, but the meat-to-bread ratio at this location was terrible. Usually I can only eat half and save the rest for later because it's so filling, but this one definitely didn't hit the same. Even worse, there was actually less meat than it looked like in the picture, practically empty toward the bottom.

I tried the Tuna Sandwich, which was tasty but the biggest flaw was that it completely fell apart after just a few bites. They should work on sandwich construction and structural integrity

Best sandwiches we've ever had, service was really quick and great. Also their bottled drink selection and coffee are great. Would come again 10/10.

It's Friday morning. I'm back to try Open-Face Breakfast Sandwich with Bacon. The egg is so soft & fluffy and the special sauce on the bread...just delicious! Wonderful staffs are waiting & ready to take your order. There are more people dinning. This place is clean with lots comfortable seatings. Check it out folks!

This is a good lunch spot for FiDi. Sandwiches are $12.50-$14. Salads are $10-$11. Prices on their website are outdated. My sandwich , the LLB special $12.50 was roast beef, turkey, ham, swiss, provolone on dutch crunch, was alright. The New England Clam Chowder $8.50 was chunky and not filled all the way up. That tasted OK as well. Friendly service for a counter style restaurant. Kitchen was fast taking account they were busy. I was pretty full afterwards.

This is a cafe that I've been to a few times for lunch, and it's a great place to get a quick sandwich in the heart of FiDi! While it is in the lobby of an office building, it does have its own area with seating in case you want to eat there. The service is friendly, and typically it only takes five minutes or so for your order. I usually get the Roma's Club with Dutch Crunch, and for the size of the sandwich that you get for the price (which is fairly affordable by SF standards) I think it's a pretty good value. The ingredients taste fresh, and I am usually pretty full afterwards. Nice spot to check out!

Lou's is my favorite spot to grab a bite to eat at lunch. Most of their sandwiches are under $10 and could easily be 2 meals. They use very high quality boars head meat, their bread is always fresh (sourdough and Dutch Crunch are my favs), and their special sauce and jalapeño spread are delicious! Everyone I've interacted with there has been super nice and welcoming, and the food takes about 10 minutes to come out, so if you're on a time crunch make sure you order ahead. This time, I got a turkey cranberry on Dutch Crunch and it was amazing as always. Their menu is very diverse and has a ton of specialty sandwiches and salads with the option to BYO as well. 10/10, definitely recommend!!

Time & Date: Wednesday, Sep 15th @ 12:30pm Crowd: pretty empty Ordered: Roma's Club ($10.42) Ike's but make it gourmet?? This sandwich tasted exactly like the BLT one from Ike's, and it looks the same too LOL. It's basically a BLT with avocado, and all your typical sandwich fillings (pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion) and there was a special spread too. This sandwich comes on dutch crunch too. Tasty, cheap, & filling!

    Chicken Pesto Sandwich

This is one of the most affordable places for a good quality sandwich or salad in downtown SF. I've gotten the chicken pesto, amicado, and build your own sandwich with pastrami and roast beef, as well as the Chinese chicken salad. All have been tasty, and the sandwiches and salads are good size so you don't leave hungry. They have a variety of interesting combinations that I'm eager to try. As of June 2023, the sandwiches start at $9.85 for a build-your-own without cheese and $10.90 for their specialty sandwiches, which is much cheaper than other sandwich spots in SF. They also have a rewards program where you get a free sandwich after a certain number of purchases (you'll need to enter your phone number for this). Tip: to avoid waiting, try calling ahead your order, and they usually have it ready within 10-20 minutes. At their Pine Street location, I've called ahead and been quoted 15 minutes until the sandwich is ready, but when arriving 15 minutes later, I've had to wait an additional 15 minutes for my sandwich to be ready. I haven't had that issue at this location on Battery Street - their estimated prep times for sandwiches have been accurate. Keep up the great work!

Generous filling on the sandwich and fresh middle ingredients but the Dutch crunch was so stale!! I have not had bread this old and chewy in a long time....

I walked past it and got like a block away and was like maaaaaan shiiiiiittt Im turning around lol. I went back and came to get a sanny and Im happy I did, I was planning on eating it on the walk. The place has a lot of choices like a regular deli youd find in the northeast. San Francisco has definitely the best Little Italy as far as choices to pick from and its really big and spread out. I had the Goodfella. Roast beef, prosciutto, salami, provolone and basil. I added the pesto and olive oil and replaced the provolone with fresh mozzarella. Best part was there was an old ass lady who made the sanny and she loaded it lol. The bread makes the sandwich and it was really soft and crunchy. Soo good. I 1000% recommend this place and I am sure she makes all the sandwiches the same!

Wowowow …read more... Visited Alimento twice, my most recent being today -- 6/27. It's a small deli shop that offers gelato, sandwiches, and pastries. They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. But I feel comfortable coming here in shorts and a t-shirt. The staff is always welcoming. I also go to the Los Altos Grill which is the same restaurant as Hillstone. Today me and my wife stopped in for lunch as we have a few times before. It was a warm day in the Bay Area today and we were out walking so I wore a nice sleeveless shirt. It was nice, new and clean. Mind you this is lunch. Not dinner. This is not a super fancy place. Me and my wife were both properly and nicely dressed. I politely told her that I identify as a woman. She said it didn't matter. I said so you misspoke a moment ago and male or female cannot wear sleeveless shirts? She said correct. I looked around and there was a woman behind us wearing a sleeveless shirt. Not nearly as nice as mine or dressed as nice as me. I said ok I will wait here while you turn her away too. The manager then became very rude and said she isn't going to serve me no matter what. I told her are you sure about this and she said yes and asked me to leave. How embarrassing. I have never been turned away from any establishment in my life. The appetizers were fine too, but nothing really stood out. It's also not a cheap meal, so I walked away expecting a bit more for the price. I will say this location was definitely better than my experience in the Mission, so I'm glad I gave it another chance. That said, if I'm in North Beach and craving pizza, I'm still heading to Tony's Pizza Napoletana. If I'm looking for something a little more casual, Golden Boy Pizza is another favorite. Both have more personality and, in my opinion, are worth choosing over Flour + Water. The best part of the night actually came afterward. We walked over to Original Joe's for a couple of after-dinner cocktails, and that completely made the evening. It's hard to beat the old-school San Francisco atmosphere, and it ended up being my favorite part of the night.
