Our local newspaper wrote about this sandwich place making a name for himself in making a popular East coast favorite (evidently Philly). The description was something that I'd never tried even during my work travels to Philadelphia. Hoagies are a staple there and, of course, who hasn't heard of Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. It's been over 30 years since my last visit to Philadelphia so pardon my memory lapse on the experience. I actually tried the cheesesteak sandwich at a fast-food pizza place next to our downtown hotel but I really enjoyed it. My only memory is that it was about the bread. Fast forward to now and there has been buzz about this sandwich spot in Embarcadero 2, an unlikely spot, known for their roast pork sandwiches. I made my way here on a Wednesday afternoon. It is just past the elevators from the Clay St. side on the left. As usual, I wanted to try a few things to get a better idea of what they make. Not knowing the setup, I intended to get everything to go, but noticed there was counter seating inside and several tables and benches outside, so I decided to dine in. I ordered their signature garlic roast pork (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=flkH6irxcDZRUJT7RMRAMQ), a sandwich comprised of Rosalind Bakery Hoagie roll, aged provolone cheese, three-day pork, braised brocc. rabe, freshly shaved pecorino Toscano cheese; in addition there is confit garlic, HMB wasabi, and red chile flake. The pork is moist and tender and the bread is very nice and chewy with a seeded top that makes this interesting. The sandwich is large so I was only able to eat half of it for lunch. For me, the brocc. rabe overwhelmed the other elements of the sandwich and the bread was on the moist side, something that won't travel well. I was glad that I ate it fresh instead of bringing it back. I ate the other half a few days later. I algo grabbed a can of carbonated agua fresca, mango flavored (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=dgeQkGWDfiffLbE1gsGaAw) from their refrigerator; I liked that the calorie count wasn't too high and that the mango flavor is there without being too sweet. I was amazed that they had three flavors that I'd never seen besides their popular Voodoo one. Needless to say, I bought a bag of each for munching at home. I appreciate the patience and helpfulness of the cashier who initially helped me. There were a couple customers waiting for their orders as I placed mine and a steady flow of people came and left as I waited for my sandwich. After finishing my meal, I met Matthew, the friendly and welcoming owner who clarified that the business is named after his grandfather. Extremely friendly service and incredibly tasty food. I had a roast pork salad and a roast pork sandwich on different days and both were absolutely excellent. The salad was a good mix of different textures with a balanced dressing, and very fresh veggies. The sandwich was on fresh bread, was packed full of meat and was very hard to stop eating - I had intended not to eat the whole thing and found myself plowing all the way through it. The broccoli rabe was slightly overpowering and I took a little bit of it off but ended up eating it anyway. Jerry's Roast Pork has been on my places to try list for a while, but I purposely waited for the initial hype wave to pass so I wouldn't contend with lines or sold‑out sandwiches. My strategy paid off as I finally made the trip and swung by around 11:30 a.m. on a weekday and walked right in with zero wait. I went straight for the classic, garlic roast pork with braised broccoli rabe on a seeded hoagie roll, and I am glad to report that it's everything I hoped it would be. The roast pork is incredibly juicy and seasoned to garlicky and herbaceous perfection. The braised broccoli rabe adds a lovely textural contrast and a touch of pleasant bitterness that cuts through the richness, while the seeded hoagie roll has a satisfying chew and just enough structure to hold it all together. That said, this is very much an "eat it here or a very short walk away" sandwich; the bread slowly soaks up the juices and will start to break down if you take too long before digging in. I went in expecting something heavy, but I was pleasantly surprised by how light it felt given the ingredients and found the portion to be just right. I'm not sure if I would choose it over the version at Palm City Wines, but it's firmly in the same tier as a top‑notch, crave‑worthy roast pork hoagie that's well worth an early‑lunch pilgrimage in FiDi. Also, bonus points for the super friendly staff and the generous amount of outdoor seating nearby (in case one is unaware if you go to the 2nd level of Embarcadero Center there is a walkway/promenade that connects all of the plazas with loads of outdoor tables and seating throughout). read more

Went to school in Philly and have sorely missed a good roast pork with broccoli rabe. Was so excited to hear Rosalind is making them here, on their bread! Their crusty sturdy hoagie roll stands up to the hefty juicy filling. It's so porky and a little bitter from the broccoli rabe, the slight funk of the cheese. Super satisfying. Ate it out on the terrace, which was absolutely lovely. Took half home for the boo, and it traveled well. I could definitely finish the whole sandwich but then I would be absolutely stuffed. The shop is super cute, lots of Knick knacks to shop and poke around while you wait. The staff was extremely nice and friendly. I was nervous they'd be sold out at 2pm on a Friday but seemed they had everything still! Much bigger menu than I thought, their other sandwiches look really good too but I don't see myself straying much from the roast pork because I'm obsessed. My coworkers and I are on a mission to find good pork sandwiches in the city. We heard about Jerry's, and took a stroll to Embarcadero 2. It's a pop up with limited signage, and I was initially was confused with the SF Fitness sign right above the door. Make no mistake, it is not a gym. Their menu includes pizza squares (gives Golden Boy energy), and cold cuts options. We all ordered the roasted pork hoagie. You can order at the counter and they call your name when it's done. The staff were really nice and brought our hoagies out to us on the patio. Note there is limited seating inside and it's good if you're eating solo. The sandwich was fresh and hot with some really garlicky broccoli rabe which paired nicely with the tender pork. It had a good meat-to-bread ratio. The consensus is that 4 out 4 people on my party enjoyed it. It was so tasty and big enough portion for me to take half of it home. Though others scarfed it all down. I love when a place has a very narrow specialty, so it can focus and do it well. Not huge portions, but quite delicious. Also very random assortment of pizza and apparently an obligatory salad. Though only the items with roast pork were notable to me. Garlic Roast Pork Sandwich: I've read their pork take 3 days to make and I can totally tell a lot of care went into it. It's so much better than typical pulled pork since it's got almost roast beef like texture, but the taste is all pork goodness and nice marinade. I was skeptical about the broccolini, but it actually worked very well against the intense pork and crispy sesame bread. Great texture with everything together. Also nice cheese. EMP Special Slice: It was like the roast pork sandwich, but on pizza. Nice slices of roast pork. Gooey sliced provolone cheese. Some high personality greens to counter the richness. Plus a layer of tomato sauce, not found on the sandwich. Definitely a fan. Tomato Slice: Kinda basic. Borderline feels like focaccia. It's alright, but do yourself a favor and spend a few bucks more on topping. Grandma Slice: After having the EMP Special, this also felt kinda basic. Even though finding Jerry's is like a corn maze, it's well worth the journey once you try one of their hoagies. It's a true Philly hoagie thru and through. I got the meatball sub that came with free broccoli rabe. Definitely one of the best subs I've had in the city. The toppings along with the sesame seed roll took my tastebuds back to the east coast. I arrived at 1:25pm, and just in time, it turns out: most of their items weren't available due to running out of ingredients for the day, and shortly after I got my order, I saw the staff place a "sold out" sign on the door. Staff looked minimal (two employees) but were friendly and really pleasant. The pork here was great! I got the salad, and it was a good portion with plenty of pork (maybe top 40% of the bowl was just pork!) and not an excessive amount of dressing (the bottom of the bowl only had a small amount of liquid at the bottom when I finished). The pork was impressive, with a good mix of sweet and savory and good texture. The salad veggies were fresh and crisp. Mixed greens, sliced bell peppers, all made for a great salad. The store itself is pretty large and a lot of standing area with a few chairs/tables. There's plenty more chairs and tables to eat at littered around Embarcadero Center if the shop is filled. There are disposable fork/knives and napkins available at the counter. I'm excited to try their sandwiches (what I originally wanted to get). They also have pizza options too. So glad to see a new lunch option open in the area. Jerry's Roast Pork is located at the former Andersen Bakery on the Lobby Level (technically the second floor) of Two Embarcadero Center, at the top of the escalator. Today, 11/04/2025, is opening day. I get there at 12:40pm and as a I'm approaching the place, I can see it's empty except for two employees behind the counter. I reach the door and greeted with the sign: "Sold out. We will be back tomorrow." They just opened at 11am,Perhaps they underestimated how well business would be on Day 1. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to try something of theirs. Currently, their operating hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. read more

Happy there's a new fast casual sandwich spot! My sister and I shared the Garlic Roast Pork Hoagie and the seasonal Roast Beef Hoagie. Garlic roast pork hoagie was a unique combo of ingredients that I didn't expect & was delicious. The broccoli rabe and wasabi flavors were interesting but I wished the pork flavor stood out more. The crusty sesame bread was great! Roast beef hoagie is marked seasonal but I hope they keep it longer! I liked the favor of this one more. Only wished they toasted the bread before adding the beef / salad because the bread was harder cold vs the toasted pork hoagie which was nice and soft. I'm gonna give five stars for my first but not last visit to Jerry's. First of all, you will not find a better deal than $13 dollars for about 2 lbs of roasted pork and broccoli rabe on a hoagie roll. I was starving but could barely finish half the sandwich. The problem is this is a very messy sando. The bread is soaked through with juices from the pork but the sesame hoagie roll holds up well and, although soggy it did not fall apart. Tip- ask for extra napkins and ask them to cut the sando in half. I wish they sold half sandwiches as there's no way I can eat a whole one. The flavor of the pork and broccoli rabe is excellent. My friends from a Philly say this is a way better sando than the Philly Cheesesteak that everyone knows about. Service is friendly and quick. I was surprised that at noon there was only one other person sitting at a table. Give this place a try if you've never had a Philly roast pork w broccoli rabe sandwich. And don't forget to ask for extra napkins. They give you a little box of Tic Tacs with your meal. They should also provide wet wipes read more

My favorite new office lunch spot! Been here twice and although it's a sparse space, service is pretty efficient. Growing up a San Franciscan, I don't know anything about Roast Pork sandwiches but man have I been missing out! You've got the bitterness of the broccoli rabe balanced with the unctuous, natural sweetness of tender sliced pork and salinity of provolone cheese with punchy horseradish/garlic spicy accents - all wrapped in a freshly baked sesame seed roll. Pros: pork is very good, service is solid, price reasonable Cons: not a great selection (two types of sandwich, a few pizza options, and a salad are all that's on the menu), but most of all, the sandwich wasn't that great (bread was just ok, not enough pork, and did not like the toppings of broccolini and garlic, and didn't even really like the cheese much) Maybe that's how traditional roast pork sandwiches are made, but I'd love an option to put toppings like lettuce, tomato, etc. on it, or at least be told what's on it and be able to opt out of that. I don't mind broccoli or huge chunks of garlic -- just not on my sandwich. Like others here, I'm laser-focusing on the Garlic Roast Pork sandwich. Being a huge fan of rapini (broccoli rabe as most folks know it), I was pleasantly shocked to have it be such a prominent element in the GRP. And it's not just sitting there being its usual bitter (which I love) self - I picked up a lot of creative seasoning elements (garlic, and was that wasabi?) intermingling with the pork, cheese and other ingredients. Absolutely stellar sandwich, served on a warm french roll that cradled the ingredients, was yielding yet held up to the generous ingredient portions. The value - I've eaten sandwiches that I tossed after a few bites in FiDi that cost a lot more, even from reputable places (generally chains). Also, extracting slices of near-melting pork from the sandwich reflected a truth about great food and ingredients - the collective whole should be unique and flavorful, but the individual elements need to shine.
