Wow such an amazing place. Now pardon my bias because my good friend from college is the owner of the restaurant but that aside the food is still delicious. My wife and I split the street car döner with loaded fries, we also had hummus dip and falafel as well. Everything was bursting with flavor. So much food and we ate all of it. Accompanied by their signature róse sangria also we were in food heaven. If you love Mediterranean food or sandwiches this place is a must stop. 5 stars all the way. Stopped by for an early dinner at 4pm on a Sunday, I was the only person in the place for the first 10 minutes or so. The two awesome folks behind the bar greeted me and offered a menu. I ordered the zesty Feta doner wrap with a side of fries, and a Fort George Hazy Pale Ale. Lots to look at on the walls and ceilings etc, fun upbeat music playing. Beer came out right away, super delicious and refreshing on another hit Portland day . Food came out a few minutes later, fries were piping hot, wrap was sliced in half so I could see all the goodies inside. Tried some fries first with a red creamy dipping sauce (I should have asked what it was called). Crispy and delicious, had some seasoning applied, probably garlic and herb of some sort. Flavorful, but not heavy handed. On to the wrap!!! Awesome, fresh vibrant veggies throughout, thin sliced lamb and beef a delicious grilled wrapper. Delicious can only BEGIN to describe it. While veggies probably make over 75% of the filling, the meat still manages to make its presence known in each bite. Well seasoned, tender, incredible. The veg adds lightness, crispness and fresh flavors throughout. Sauce was zesty, but I wouldn't go so far as to say spicy. 10 out of 10. Brought back nostalgia from when I lived in Australia and would get shawarmas every weekend from a local vendor, random I know, but if you know, you know. The street cart and Mediterranean doner likewise are great. I've only gotten to go, once through Postmates (they arrived in perfect condition, btw), but the counter staff have been great every time I've stopped by so I have no doubt the dining in experience would match the doner. I really want to give SPITZ a higher rating, but the disappointments piled on one after the other. I ordered a beef and lamb street cart doner ($10.75) with mixed fries (thin cut fries with sweet potato waffle fries) combo without drink ($4.50). The combo actually isn't any sort of discount at all - it's the standard cost for their side of fries. My order was placed at 6:35 PM on a Friday evening, and it was stated it would take no longer than 20 minutes. I got there around 6:50 and was okay waiting. I walked inside and there were 4 other people waiting. Unfortunately, it was apparent the kitchen was backed up with orders, and I didn't get my food until 7:22 PM. Okay, well, there's an ongoing pandemic, it's all take out orders, and there's probably staff reductions, where they probably expected much less demand. Fine, I think I can be a little understanding of that. The guy who brought out my order seemed like a nice guy and I'm sure he was trying his hardest to multitask and get out the orders while maintaining quality. Now onto the food... I was a little skeptical to pay $10.75 for a doner, but it was getting some raving reviews and decided to go for it. You can add one "add on" INSIDE the wrap, with a choice of fries, sweet fries, onions/carrots, roasted corn or spicy style. I didn't think I'd like more starch inside my wrap, nor did I want to make it bulkier (plus, I love spicy food), so I decided to go with the spicy style, which was a good choice. It wasn't too spicy that it overwhelms the flavors and dominates the doner. You still get the fresh vegetable texture and the flavors of the beef and lamb seasonings. The sauce from the spicy style also seemed to mend well with all the other textures and flavors of the doner. I was content with the doner. Now for my fries. I was debating if I even wanted to add on fries for $4.50. This is where I missed - they were a huge disappointment. You can see from the posted picture the portion size. For $4.50, I guess that might be reasonable. The major disappointment, however, was the quality of it. I'm guessing the (presumably) short staff may have made fries in large batches while multitasking the numerous other entree orders. The downside was the fries were a little soggy/not as crispy, and the sweet potato waffle fries were horrible. They were lukewarm, yet overcooked. I actually threw some of it out because it was just crunchiness of nearly burnt starches saturated with oil that actually hurt trying to chew. Now, not all the waffle fries were like that; you could taste some of the sweet potato with some of them or parts of some of them. Again, perhaps it was the shortage of staff, that unfortunately lessened the quality while they may have been multitasking. So all in all, I was pretty content with the doner, but severely disappointed with the fries. I want to like this place more, but I'm not sure if I'm just making excuses for what may have been just their usual. I'm not even sure if there was more than one staff working there on a Friday night of a pandemic. I'm not sure if I'd be back or not. For $15, I expected a little bit more quality in what I experienced. read more

Yelp claims it's economical, but $30 for a two items with no drinks is only economical by Los Angeles standards --- that makes sense, since this is ultimately a Los Angeles chain started by a couple white dudes who once visited the middle east. In my experience, Doner meat should be crisp, carved off the spit to order and served with just a hint of sizzle on the edges, but all the meat here is soggy, like it's been soaking in fluid for hours. This was not ideal. The decor is trying hard to be hip, but the result is pretty unwelcoming. Uncomfortable furniture, jumbles of lights clumped together hanging from an exposed surge protector and a rat's nest of cables, and artwork with theme or style. Pretty underwhelming. Tastier, and more economic, options are available food carts all over town. Don't bother giving these Californians your money. I don't think they deserve it. read more

The food is on point and so are the sangria pitchers. Great interior and patio space. The apps are good and the fried pita bread is especially good. There's not really a wait staff, if there is there's an issue, so order at the bar and don't expect anyone to check on you for refills or what have you. I randomly found this place on DoorDash, while staying at a hotel downtown and needing dinner. Everything on the menu looked incredible but I ended up with the Doner wrap and sweet potato fries. Omg. The food was perfectly intact when it arrived. A work of art! The sweet potato fries were covered in toppings, which I wasn't expecting. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area;even if you are not. Found this looking for places to eat while in Portland and came across this gem. It was easy to find via gps though it does not have the name Spitz on the side of the building (or at least I didn't see it); you will see a picture of a spitz and it will say Mediterranean Food on the sign. Went on the recommendation to try the Street Car Doner with the beer battered thin cut fries. While it wasn't the most flavorful beef and lamb I have had, the rest of sandwich made up for it with a medley of lettuce, tomatoes, onion, green peppers, cucumber and tzatziki sauce. I personally should have gotten the spicy doner instead, which probably would have enhanced the meal for another kick. Service was great and helpful. Just go up to bar to order and pay. They also serve alcohol which is nice to be able to have a drink while eating. Seems like a fairly chill place to have a few drinks outside in their patio area which seats about 30 with indoor seating hold on around the same. Have been wanting to go here for a while and finally made it on a weekday for lunch. First, I was disappointed. You walk-in and are confused. Didn't know if it was self-seating or not so we just took a seat at the bar. Second, for lunch on a weekday the food came out pretty slow. Lastly, I think it is a bit overpriced. Came here with some friends after church service and it was DELICIOUS. They've been here before but it was my first time and I am willing to drive 25+ minutes to come here just for the food. It's in downtown so it's a hit or miss with parking but we were lucky to be just a few feet away. I got the Mediterranean wrap with chicken for protein and we all got sweet potatoes fries to share. The wraps came out very quickly as well as the fries. Everything was so so good! Perfectly salted and not over-stuffed with a bunch of ingredients. When we first heard Mediterranean food was coming to Killingsworth, we were thrilled! This cuisine is sorely absent from Overlook and environs, and would make a welcome change from the recently-deceased predecessor New American (RIP). We made a point to visit Spitz on opening weekend, and our findings were mixed at best. The overall feel of the place is very un-Portland, more like fish-out-of-water Cali, with a clubby vibe, loud music, slick decor, etc (no surprise, given this is an outpost of a chain based in LA). It's quite the contrast to the Old Gold next door, a beloved watering hole very much in its element. Happily, the service was very friendly and solicitous, even if they made several errors on our order, kinks we would expect to be ironed out as time goes on. Three kinds of sangria were a pleasure to behold, apparently a staple with this chain. Alas, the red sangria boasted little to write home about, and tasted more like watered-down red wine. We ordered two iterations of the Berliner Fries with The Works ($11.50 a pop) as well as a side Greek salad and another portion of meat -- for the meat portions were still lacking in the above. Perhaps this was the wrong choice, because it felt like were eating a pile of fat and salt with little flavor or nuance to it. Pretty disappointing, given that we love all manner of Mediterranean food. Other döner kebab offerings may be a better bet. The best part about the experience at Spitz? The many games on hand, including Jenga, backgammon, Cards Against Humanity, etc. But we don't need to spend upwards of $40 to pretend we're in LA -- we'd rather go next door to Old Gold or down the street to Backyard Social and enjoy better food, music, and community. read more

They have just one main item on the menu that is lavash wraps. For filling you've the choice of beef & lamb (which is the traditional döner filling), chicken, falafel or just veggies. Tried the spicy döner, which had a little bit of heat that complemented the meats and veggies well. But the star of the meal was definitely the fries. Street cart fries were better than the Berlin döner fries. Also we got the mix of sweet potato and regular fries. Would definitely recommend the combo. read more

Really great mediterranian sandwiches/wraps. I've had the spicy doner and the zesty feta. Both were made with fresh ingredients and had really good flavor. Full bar with three different types of sangria. The red was my favorite. My only suggestion is that they add another register or maybe a dedicated register for take out to speed up the ordering process. Other then that, the service was good. read more

Terrible catering experience through Spitz. I have had some previous decent experiences so I am giving 2 stars vs 1. They gave my food to a third party delivery service without any of the sauces or toppings. Mind you, I ordered a make your own buffet so there was meat, falafel, lettuce, wraps and quinoa. No toppings or sauces or plates or utensils. The driver went back to the establishment to pick up items and was turned away by them. They claimed I wanted a refund so they were not giving me the items. I had talked to the third party vendor about some sort of compensation because by this point lunch was almost over and many people couldn't eat. There was however, a handful that we're still waiting for the toppings and sauces to come back. I kept telling them that they were coming back for over an hour and 45 minutes. The establishment Finally agree to give toppings after the company called them again to demand they send the missing items with the driver upon their return. The driver was awesome and he said when he initially Picked up the order had questioned if he was missing any items and they said no he also said that the restaurant was not busy so they can't blame it on that. 3 hours after my initial lunch was delivered the toppings finally made it. I cater about 5-6 lunches/month for work I won't ever use this place again! read more

My boyfriend constantly talked about döners that he had in Berlin and how much he'd want to have more of those here. So when I was looking at places to eat in Portland area I figured to give this place a try, after all they have a döner on the menu called 'Berliner Döner'. The restaurant itself is a cute little place with cool graphics spray painted on the concrete walls. When ordering we quickly realized that maybe the people who work there don't know much about döner since they were pronouncing it wrong. When the food arrived though looked appetizing it wasn't the best döner that I've had. I could however see that for those who haven't experienced what a real döner tastes like that this place would be a hit. Unfortunately it was disappointing to us. read more
