I stayed very close to Spinnakers for a week. Tried to go several times but they're closed Mondays and Tuesdays and then for several other days a week they close at at 7PM. This seems very early to me, and it prevented us from going there and spending money. Not sure if these are post-labor day hours or what. All I know is, in the past Jake's got a lot of my vacation dollars because they were reliably open til 9pm. On the day we managed to go there, we had the lobster poutine which was very good. Excellent fries, lots of lobster meat and cheese curds. The "gravy" seems to be sort of like lobster bisque. Really good! I wish we had been able to go another time to try more of their food. Great lobster roll, overflowing w/ nice cold Maine lobster, served straight up w/ a side of melted butter, or a surprisingly delicious lemon aioli. The whole belly calms were on point too! Nice big dining room w/ outdoor seating as well. Owners are super friendly and welcoming. Really hope they have great success. Came at dinner time on a Sunday. Wanted to try the lobster roll, but the $35 price tag was a bit too steep for my budget. Settled on the crab cake platter. Tried Spinnaker based on recommendation of a lovely lady that recently cared for my aunt. She reported she stayed in Ogunquit and loved the food. Everything was perfect. The place appears to be very popular with the locals so you automatically know the food is good. The place was clean and they had two nice family sized bathrooms with is great when you bring the kiddos. The food is prepared fresh so you may have to wait but it is worth it. This used to be the old Jake's. No idea why they changed the name after all these years. I would not recommend sitting there to eat your food but an absolute must try if you want take out. I have to start off by saying that I miss Jakes, and only stopped by here because I thought they might be similar. What I loved about Jakes was the fried shrimp dinner. I might add that I only like small popcorn like shrimp (that's my personal like) and these new shrimp are HUGE. not a fan. So over priced for small like portions. We dream of eating here all year long! We would eat every meal there if we could. Everything is cooked fresh and their ability to create delicious gluten free fried seafood is off the charts. Best we have had anywhere! Their burgers I feel are their secret sauce. Most lean towards the seafood, and one day we leaned the other way and wooooooweeeee we were in burger heaven. Simple. Straight forward ingredients and a perfect burger. Hand cut fries always a classy touch. Stopped here by chance for lunch. My husband had the haddock basket and I had a burger and onion rings. The haddock was a very large portion (yes, ~$18 but much larger than I've seen at other places). My burger was good, fresh produce and not greasy. I really liked the beer battered onion rings - they had great flavor. The staff were nice and the place was very clean. We sat outside and they even had staff coming by a few times while we were there to clean the tables. read more

Absolutely the best GF Gluten Free Seafood restaurant! We took a chance and stopped there because of the GF sign. We were given the GF menu immediately upon mentioning that I needed it, two others in our party did not. The restaurant is so clean...everywhere! The restroom was spotless! My family has summered in Wells since 2005 and came to know the former restaurant that ruled this corner of town very well. We were saddened to see Jake's closing last year but were hopeful whoever took over the space would be just as reliable, fresh, and convenient. Spinnakers checks all of those boxes! Let me preface it by saying that we were huge Jake's fans for many years so when we went last summer only to see a dumpster in the parking lot and the signage removed, we were saddened and dismayed that Jakes was no longer and one less inviting seafood restaurant was off the boards. Fast forward to 2019...upon reading some of the reviews from this season, we decided to give Spinnakers a try...went for dinner last night after great day at the beach and much to our joy, we give it two thumbs up. Absolutely amazing food! First off, the remodeled interior and exterior were welcoming and well-done...inside, brightly painted walls with nautical pictures, simple spacious tables and benches and bright orange chairs adorned the restaurant (though we miss the archived Wells photos that use to hang on Jakes walls). A/C was cranking and very accommodating and seemed to work better than Jakes. Outside, tables and chairs have been updated and has a spacious area for seating. Inside and out, very clean and well-attended. As for the food...Absolutely great menu items to choose from. All of your seafood favorites, plus others too numerous to list. We had the Lobster Grilled Cheese... wonderfully grilled on big toast with Havarti cheese and huge chunks of lobster and the Clam Strip Platter, sweet clam lightly breaded in an oversized portion and they were equally delicious. Hand cut fries were a tremendous addition and cooked well and preferred to the run of the mill fries you get in the area. But what set our visit apart was the incredible blueberry cornbread that hit a homerun with us (and definitely an upgrade to the token garden salad that Jake's used to include). Cole slaw was crunchy and balanced with not too much liquid (nothing worse than drippy slaw). Even the cold tap water they gave us, with great crushed ice, was delicious and welcoming after a hot day. Unfortunately had no room for desert but the Richardson's ice cream selection looked inviting for another trip just for desert on our next visit. Everything is reasonably priced when comparing other local restaurants. Counter service and other employees greeted us with "service with a smile" and when asked how our meals were, we eagerly gave them two thumbs up. Give Spinnakers a try, you won't regret it...as the New Kids on the Block...welcome to the area and high 5's for a tremendous experience. We'd give 6 stars if it were possible. Look forward to our return visit this summer! P.S. Just a suggestion, might think about offering a customer usage punch card similar to the one that Bob's in Kittery does...where they punch your card for every $8 you spend and after 12 punches or $96, you get a free $8 off. Goes a long way especially for large families or for those that visit Wells/Ogunquit often. You'll find your customer base with take off even more. read more

Was a big fan of Jake's, so I was curious when we rolled up to the new place. At first, I was bummed. At Jake's, if you wanted seafood, it didn't have to be fried, which is huge for some of my fam who love seafood but have food issues. They ended up with plain lobster salads which were pretty good. I got the lobster poutine, and that's what turned me. What an amazing dish! Thick bisque with big lobster chunks and cheese curds on delicious fries. Spinnaker's was overpriced; a haddock sandwich, a burger and fries with two sodas was $35.00 and to add insult to injury I asked for a slice of cheese on my sandwich and was happily told there was a one dollar up-charge for cheese. Portions were small. Food was sub-par. Won't be going back. I've been watching this place all summer since and rarely is it crowded. The only reason it may stay in business is location.
