One of my favourite go-to Hakka places in Scarborough! The restaurant is relatively small but I usually get a takeout of their lunch menu's Shanghai noodles and Manchurian Chicken. The lunch menu is all I go for because the price is so reasonable! Also, they are super fast and making your order (less than 15 minutes if you order right when they open---they get busy fast!!!) I can't rate this 5 stars because the food quality could be slightly better. Sometimes the Shanghai noodles turn out a little too greasy and the Manchurian chicken tastes bland. I'm really very torn about this place so I have broken it down into sections, this review is based on over a dozen expereinces with eat in and take out Food: I would give the food 5.5 stars. It is always fresh and the multiple items I have tried on the menu have been fantastic including the lemon chicken, hakka noodles and spicy beef. Price/Value: We eat like kings for 28 dollars for dinner (three of us with drinks!). How can you beat that!!! Service: I would give the service 1 star. The waitresses are really grumpy and curt. I have always had to approach the counter to order food then sit back down at my table. You need to ask for everything, sometimes multiple times. They simply ignore you...however not a big deal when the prices are so cheap! Cleanliness: I would give this a negative 5!! This is where I really have an issue. I understand that it is a typical hole in the wall kinda place, however there is just no excuse to have large cobwebs on the wall in the back corner table! Flithy windows and walls and the corners of the floor are just gross. In short I don't think the dinning room is ever cleaned at all....makes me wonder about the condition of the kitchen, hence my issue with this place...really great food at a great price vs. really dirty kitchen?????? In short, this is a great place to come and get take out...then leave. Or if you decide to dine in please dont look at the walls, tables, floors, windows etc as it will really start to gross you out and you wont enjoy your food. read more

I come here sometimes with my girlfriend. The serving quantities are very generous for the price, so much so that I normally save enough to have lunch the next day. The food tastes alright. The seating is pretty limited but there's normally a free space. The staff are helpful and the food comes out very quickly. read more

This place is very small but has a well thought out layout. The food is decent and reasonably priced (*see note on beef). Take-away wasn't nearly as hot as expected upon opening. The chilli chicken was much better than the chilli beef. These dishes were very different in terms of ingredients and portions. The *beef had way too much green pepper and huge pieces of onion. Between this and the pan not being filled it was really not worth the cost. Chicken was much better. As it should be, there were no peppers, onions were sliced thinly and the pan was filled properly. The overall flavour was good but not very spicy. We'll be back to try other dishes. First impression is 3/5. read more

Ok so I ate here more than a couple of times and it was delicious! I loved the food so much even if I'm not a huge fan of spicy dishes. I had ordered here before to pick up and the sweet and sour chicken had this amazing texture, and the taste was perfect. One evening, I decided to pick up my favorite chicken dish. It was the only time that I was not pleased with the quality because it looked like it was cooked (or heated) 3 hours before. I had called and mentioned what happened and the lady apologized, so I said it was ok. I did not finish the food, but I appreciated the humility of the lady. I had decided to order a week after (for pick up), and kindly asked the lady (a differentt lady) who answered, to please make sure that the dish won't be as dry. She rudely told me that if I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, it always has sauce so she added, "I don't know what you're talking about". I tried to be patient and asked her again, if she could just make sure that it will not be as dry as the last time. I was explaining to her in a very calm tone but she did not let me finish. She kept yelling and said, "So do you want it or not?". Then she hung up on me. I called her three times but they did not pick up anymore. What kind of arrogance is this? Was it because their restaurant was always packed hence her very rude attitude? But I kept reminding myself to be kind, yet she was still furious. I don't think I deserved that. I did not even return the bad chicken I had the last time because I thought it was just a mistake. Your food is good, but I dislike going there because it reminds me of your miserable waitress! The attitude of your employee is worse than your stale food (at least for that one instance). I commend the younger guy who works there who was always accommodating during my visit. Worst customer service on the phone! We had about 8 items from the menu we wanted to order and we had a few kids that don't eat Hakka food so we just asked if they could take the chow mien noodles and do it with beef and broccoli and that's it. The lady kept going on about not wanting to make it special and she kept saying other dishes and we just asked for one of the beef chow mien and add broccoli instead so we don't have to go order from another Canadian style Chinese place. It's such a lovely experience to dine out here with my family. I keep it in my memories, always fun. Its such a delightful experience full of intense, spicy flavourful and savoury meats, from chicken to pork to metal wires lol, this establishment has been here from time and time again, their loyal clientele with a full range of options varying from egg dishes, turtle and from veggie to meat dishes. Extra succulent and scrumptious, however our last experience we ate here we encountered a few things that we didn't find in any other spot we've been in, I found it extra spicy when I didn't order the food to be so hot, but I still ate it, also I noticed the cost is extremely pricey other than the fact that they sure deliver to their loyal fan base of customers, I only had a little bit of fried rice, and it was so deep fried and oily that the grease came off if you placed a serviette or napkin on top off it. Next time I think McDonalds will be happy to oblige to my late night greasy food cravings, now I only eat here once in a blue moon in like the next ten years. read more

Spicy Dragon has been our go-to for years now to get our Hakka fix. The reason for the 3-star rating is that in the past few months, I have noticed that the food has gone a bit downhill in the flavour department. I am not sure if the chef has changed but lately whomever has cooked our meals lately, has failed to add the flavourful seasoning that kept us as loyal customers for years. We ordered a large amount of food this past weekend for some out-of-town friends whom had never had Hakka food before. Our order included Manchurian noodles, Hakka noodles, chili chicken, chili beef, chicken pakoras, crispy chicken, chili paneer, green beans, chicken corn soup, house special chicken and spicy dragon chicken. All of these dishes are what we normally order so I was very surprised that most dishes were lacking in the spice and flavour department. If it weren't for the chili sauce that needed to be added to everything, it would almost not be worth the calories. Overall, I was disappointed because we had raved about this place to our friends and were left unimpressed by our last order. I noticed that a few other yelp reviews also commented on the lack of flavour/ blandness of the food so I am hoping that this restaurant will take these comments into consideration and pass them along to their chefs. Been a loyal client since they opened over two years ago. However, the 2 visits have been very disappointing. I normally order Chilli Chicken from the lunch special menu. The restaurant must have changed their supplier because 70 percent of the meat is now tough,dry and/or over cooked. You literally have to force it down. When I called to make a complaint they said no one has complained and wanted me to bring back the food then they would decide if i could get my money back or not. I was working and could not go back right away as it was during business hours. They have now lost a local client and I will tell everyone I know. read more

The food here was excellent. I repeatedly order from this place. Their meats are yummy and they give generous proportions for take out. Specifically these dishes are really good: Spicy Dragon Shrimp (best breaded shrimp I have ever eaten, the size and quantity is generous), Cantonese Chow Mein (plenty of seafood and vegetables and even more noodles, excellent), and Szechuan Fried Rice (really nice authentic taste, not too many sauces, which is a good thing and also not super oily). Good food, good taste....until they started serving take-out in the black container with the clear lid. I don't know if it's me or not, but I get some sort of awful aftertaste when they started serving chilli chicken etc in those new containers. Could it be the heat of the food is "cooking" certain chemicals in the container to be released back into the food...I do definitely get an aftertaste with that new container being used. That's why I don't buy food from them anymore. Don't go during lunch hour (12-2pm) because you've got high school kids going through puberty coming their to eat...and they come in bunches. Each dish was worse the previous and service was even lousier... took 50 minutes for our food to come and that after many reminders.
