I forget which fried rice (there's shrimp in it), Manchurian veggies, crispy beef with sauce
Wynne L.

My review is based off ordering take-out. We phoned in the order and by the time we got to the location it was ready for us. When we were paying the lady behind the counter let us know that there's 10% off if we pay with cash, thanks for the heads up. For 2 people we ordered a fried rice, veggie and beef. We had no idea that the veggies and beef each came with rice so we had a packed container of just rice. Face palm. The crispy beef would probably be best eaten at the restaurant since it wasn't so crispy by the time we got home. In my opinion, there was too much batter on the beef and not enough beef. I liked that there were some green beans thrown in there. The rice had a hint of spice but wasn't overwhelming. That was probably the case since we asked them to make it mild. The veggies were a tad bit spicier but still manageable. I think it'd be better to order and eat there for a fresher experience.

This location has the absolute WORST Manager named David. I ordered one garlic chicken dish for takeout and discovered it to be very sweet. When we called the location to let them know, the manager was extremely rude. We explained to him that the dish was sweet despite it have a chilli symbol next to it indicating spice. And all he said was "So? That doesn't mean anything" We were also pretty disappointed to see that they did not provide any red chili sauce or chillies and vinegar. When we mentioned this to the manager he said: " You have to ask for, just like you have to ask for napkins and forks". To which we replied, "we actually did get both the napkins and forks without asking" Ultimately we did NOT appreciate the rude attitude of the staff or the quality of the food we received. This is actually a surprisingly different experience than the last time this location made a mistake with our order back in the summer of 2017, where they offered to give us a replacement dish the next time we came in. I don't know if the management or policy has changed her since then, but we most certainly will NOT be returning to this location.

Stopped by for lunch one Wednesday afternoon as my buddy recommended this place. He highly recommended the chilli chicken with gravy but I typically order the dry for a more flavourful experience. So he ordered the one with gravy and I ordered the dry. The lunch special comes with your choice of meat served with steamed white rice and a bottle of water. For an extra $1.50, you can upgrade to egg fried rice, and an extra $0.50 for a can of pop. We also ordered shrimp pakora for our appetizer. The shrimp pakora came out freshly fried, piping hot, served with a lemon wedge. For 12 pieces at $10.75, I can't say that I've seen a better pricing for a pakora dish. All the other pakora dishes can be found for under $10 for 12 pieces. What a steal! The shrimp pakora was delicious! Spicy! The only thing I'd like more of is actual shrimp. The amount of batter seemed to outshine the amount of shrimp but the flavour makes up for it. Both the gravy and dry chilli chicken lunch specials were served in a generously large portion. As expected, the dry chilli chicken was more flavourful than the gravy chilli chicken but if you're one for saucy dishes to mix with rice, go for it. The dry chilli chicken paired nicely with the egg fried rice. I was surprised at how moist the fried rice was! I didn't need to drench the rice in sauce for it to be palatable as I usually do.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: chicken pakora

I really liked that as soon as I entered the restaurant 3 servers from behind the counter were ready serve us. All of them greeted us in unison. The restaurant is laid out to be very long from the entrance to the counter, great thing the staff have laser vision and are attentive and fast. Dined-in for 2. Ordered chili chicken and chicken pakora. Yes I like my chicken served Hakka-style. The chili chicken comes with a small bowl of steamed rice, drenched in gravy and onion. I had super high expectations as I don't play games when it comes to chili chicken, and unfortunately they were not met. Not spicy at all. Gravy was unlike other Hakka restaurants... less authentic to the original dish. Gets a 2/5. The chicken pakora on the other hand was delightful - I look for spice, colour, and cut of chicken they use when ordering pakora at restaurants as it will always be different. The colour was beautiful dark mustard yellow, jalapeños showing in the deep-fried breading. The chicken inside the pakora was juicy and neither too lean or fatty. Gets a 4.5/5. An alright experience overall but in Pickering, beggars can't be choosers! Will eat here again and will re-order pakora.

I have driven by this place many times and had always thought to myself that I need to check it out. Durham region has quite a few Indian Chinese (Hakka) restaurants now and the bar has been raised. After not getting into a restaurant I wanted since I didn't have a reservation, decided to come here instead. Promptly greeted by servers. This was was quite busy on a Friday night. To be honest the food was okay, I had the chilli chicken (3/5), Hakka Noodle (3/5), and the Spicy Dragon Beef (4/5). I have had better in Ajax and Whitby. It's good value for the money large portions as well. But had I been able to get into the first restaurant I wanted, probably wouldn't have come here.

Horrible. We went to this restaurant as it mentioned Indian Hakka Chinese but the reality of the food was totally different. We ordered vegetable manchurian which came out to be a tasteless medley of veggies. The chilli chicken with egg fried rice that my husband ordered was also tasteless. Only the vegetable noodles and the Singapore rice noodles were tolerable (cus we were exceptionally hungry). The best tasting thing was the coke can. Come here if you want to waste ur money and get a pathetic service as the hostesses are really rude. NOT RECOMMENDED EVER.

Had a little date night tonight with a cute girl, went back for more Hakka Chinese tonight, but wanted to try some new items. - Manchurian shrimp and chicken rice (white meat) - Chilli Chicken (dry, no sauce) - Hot and Sour soup My goodness the chilli chicken blew me away, phenomenal. Crispy, not greasy and very flavourful. Manchurian rice was excellent and the soup was also good. $21.75 with tax for two patrons and we had leftovers. Fantastic!

Pricing is excellent and portions are big. Very satisfying and good service. The lunch specials can't be beat.

Vegetable pakora appetizer

My husband and I came here for lunch. We got vegetable pakora for an appetizer then pineapple chicken and Manchurian chicken. The food was quick, hot and cheap. Our server was friendly and came to our table quickly. There were 12 pieces of pakora in our appetizer and the lunch special portions were huge too. Great value for money here.

Tom T.

Great value here. 5.95 lunch special has a decent menu selection and includes green tea or soft drink. Chilli chicken, Hakka noodles and vegetable chicken with steamed rice are all good bets!

Walking in, the space is mostly kitchen, with no seating (under COVID conditions). The previous (burger) restaurant that occupied this space before had only two tables of two and a counter in the window. There are currently two tables of four set up under a tent in the parking spaces directly in front of the restaurant. These tables could have been cleaner. In addition to TV screens hanging from the ceiling, there is a large menu on the wall with (I'm guessing) their six most popular items. I ordered the Tandoori(?) chicken from this menu. It included two leg quarters, salad, rice, naan, and a drink for only $9.99. Not a bad deal. It took about fifteen minutes for my order to be completed. A few other customers were ahead of me, also waiting, some impatiently. Once ready, I sat at one of the tables out front. Hmmm, no napkins? Only a spoon to eat with? Where's my drink? Once I got that sorted, it was time to eat. The chicken was a tad on the dry side and the flavours a bit understated. The salad consisted of lettuce, cucumbers, and red onions. The naan was large and fresh. The rice was plentiful, nice and fluffy. I'm used to bolder flavours in Indian cuisine. Overall, it was just okay. I'm used to bold flavours but I found the chicken a bit underseasoned. While the food wasn't bad, it wasn't as good as I was anticipating. Hopefully, these issues will be sorted out in time. PS - The fly strips hanging in the restaurant were a bit of a turn off.

Their staff took our reservations right away over the phone, they were very polite. We arrived and for our first visit in 2023, it was nothing but nostalgic. The decor and overall ambience is very relaxing and beautiful, the golden adornments and cultural feel is amazing. Our seats were already reserved for us when we arrived, and we were seated right away. Our server Lila, was very polite and loved making jokes with us about making dishes less spicy. After ordering, our appetizer and meals came swiftly out and were divine, though some had spicy spices, it was a pleasant spiciness and went away quickly. Each meal and side was filling and pleasant for the tastebuds and authentic. Sadly we got full too fast, and boxed the rest of our meals, but it was 100% worth the trip and price. A nice side note is that there is no TV and only radio, so it's a more intimate setting and is way more peaceful. Overall one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, and my greatest weakness when it comes to food, I'd recommend this restaurant for anyone, coming alone, coming for a date or coming with their family.

I haven't had a chance to get to Zeera during the pandemic and I have missed it terribly so tonight I hopped onto Uber Eats and placed an order! I opted for some oldies but goodies and a couple of dishes I hadn't tried before. The bread basket is definitely a must have. All of their naan is delicious and I can never choose just one kind. Why not get an assortment? The other staple I ordered was Aloo Gobi. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked, as always. The dishes I hadn't tried before at Zeera were their chicken biryani and paneer korma. Both dishes were incredible and I will definitely order them again. I've had saag paneer countless times but I've never heard of paneer korma. I love korma so how could I go wrong? A definite winner! (I made my own Raita though.) When you compare price to serving sizes, it's one of the more expensive restaurants I go to but when I'm in the mood for Indian cuisine, Zeera is my go-to!

Since this was our first time here, we opted for dishes we were familiar with so we could benchmark them against our favourite Indian restaurant. Our selection consisted of Aloo Gobi Masala, Tandoori Butter Chicken, Malai Lamb Curry, Super Naan, Masala Raita and Basmati Rice. Everything looked and smelled amazing so we were excited to tuck in. First, I have to say, this Aloo Gobi has set the bar higher and is now the benchmark by which all future Aloo Gobi dishes will be compared against. The curry dishes were also amazing. In fairness, ordering butter chicken was safe, but we also wanted to have something we hadn't tried before. You can never go wrong with lamb and the description of the Malai Lamb Curry sounded irresistible... it left me gobsmacked. Are you kidding me? This dish is packed with flavour and the lamb was cooked to perfection. We actually considered packing up the rest of the sauce to bring home. Honestly, it's that good. Definitely a MUST! Absolutely everything from start to finish was delicious. The owner/chef (?) came out for a chat and to regale us with descriptions of other dishes to try next time... and believe me, there will definitely be a next time! Have I just found my new favourite Indian restaurant? I think I might have.

We also had their Chicken Choyela (served with crispy broken rice), an excellent Chicken Chow Mein, and Paratha flatbread. Additionally, we had a Mutton Thakali Set which is a combo meal with several components, all delicious. We were impressed. The flavor profile was perfection. ( My friend LOVED this dish as well. ) Next up were the Momo's. They're known for their Momo's. I do prefer a steamed Momo, so we went with steamed chicken. The portion size was quite large and the dipping sauce paired well; they had so much flavor. The next appetizer dish was one I have never had before; Chicken Choyela. I generally don't enjoy crunchy / textured foods but my friend quite enjoyed the puffed rice addition of this dish. The chicken had a unique flavor, unlike anything I've had before. It was solid. Their Chow Mein is another dish that they're known for. I seem to prefer noodles over rice these days. (But, I'm generally disappointed with most places noodles.) These were SUPERB! They had a smoky flavor to them and were a 10/10. I've had Thali but never a Thakali. While similar, they are different; We chose the mutton option. This dish was incredibly tender and bursting with flavors. Dish after dish impressed us. This spot hits all the right notes and is a definite must visit if you're in the area. There's not a lot of seating so I would imagine this place is bustling on the weekends with their buffet. The restaurant is tidy and the gentleman who served us was really nice and very helpful. After looking at the menu and having a chat with the waiter, I opted for the non-veg Thali. Apparently, it's normally a takeaway dish but for an additional $2, you can have it in the restaurant. So, we had assumed the reason for the extra couple of quid was because they would be using proper dishes and the extra labour for cleaning that, etc. etc.. Apparently not. We were both taken aback when our lunch was served to us in a plastic takeaway container. I'm not going to lie, it was a little disappointing. Part of dining out at a restaurant is the experience and plastic just doesn't cut it. The food was really good and there certainly was plenty of it. We were both satisfied with our lunch and I would definitely come back again to try other dishes. I'm not sure I would order this dish again though, given the presentation. Because of that, I can only give this restaurant a 3-star at this time.
