I've enjoyed the food overall many times but I keep coming back more because it's a family staple than a personal favorite. We order the fried rice, lo mein, fish pakora, and Bombay chicken, and Bombay paneer. All decent but there's a few issues. The protein breading is overly done. You're biting into way more of the breading then there is actual meat. Don't even attempt to order mild because they'll just throw every green chili they have in there so not a place I'd recommend at all for children. read more

Markham is slowly becoming saturated with Hakka restaurants. The latest I've come across is Hakka Legend. Their menu is extensive with plenty of variety. For the classic and safe bet we tried their hakka chow main and chili chicken. Chili chicken was lovely, slightly Crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Their noodles were flavorful, but the texture/shape resembled somewhat like spaghetti. Do note, I was disappointed that they do not include rice with any entrees, while other Hakka restaurants do offer it free of charge. This can pose as a deterrence as they will need to contend against Frederick's located in the next plaza over that's already got it loyal clientele. read more

Service was great, our order was ready between 15-20 minutes. It was fresh but the quantity of the good was significantly less than Federicks or other nearby Hakka restaurants. As for the dishes, we got Bombay chicken, chili shrimp, noodles, spring rolls and soup. It was okay, nothing to be impressed. Also, when I went to pick my order, I was told that white rice is not included and we needed to pay. They will not provide hot water with lemonade, as it's not a menu limit. Wow. The owner has gotten extreeemely greedy. The last few times I've been there, and I don't like writing negative reviews, but I just can ignore it anymore. We went to this restaurant a few weeks ago, for two people, I ordered a soup, a Singapore noodles and a Thai red curry. Thor wonder brought us the soup, then after 30 minute I called the server and they said it's coming, but we were quite hungry so we ordered some pakoras, which came within minutes, then shorty after only my Singapore noodles came, we waiting for the curry for another 20 minutes, then after adding another item to our order they brought the curry and my shrimp out. I went from having three menu items that I originally ordered to having 5, my bill was almost double than what I had initially planned for, and we had so much take home we ended up throwing most of it out. A few days ago, We dined here again with three people. I asked if any mains come with rice, they said no. Then I asked for hot water, they said they don't have hot water but can bring you tea. I told them regular water is fine. If there is no money to be made it seems the owner is not interested in providing his patrons with any hospitality. I mean to make tea surely you must have hot water.... We then asked for one lemon or lime wedge for my water, they said they don't have any for that. Then I let the waiter know that I ordered pakoras, and he said oh ok, I'll bring it with your pakora, and brought one thin wedge for 8 pieces of pakoras. This restaurant has really gone down hill. The only seasons he seems to use now are soy sauce and salt, that's what my hot and sour soup and house fried rice tasted like. The food quality is quite poor and the prices here are higher now than the other restaurants around this area. The prices range from 11.95 for a fried rice and 16.95 for a chef special I think. Also TIP IS ALREADY ADDED TO EVERY BILL. They do not tel you this, and you probably still add an extra 20% to your meal without knowing. The owner is just super greedy, and sacrificed food quality and gives you poor customer service. No surprise this place is still thriving through pandemic. read more

Picked up some take out for Valentine's Day. I've tried this place before and enjoyed their noodles and fried rice. Got Hakka noodle which was good, not spicy so my kids were able to have some. Got fish pakora, but a little spicy for me. The crispy ginger beef was the best. Wish I can have it in the restaurant so it is actually crispy. When I got home it was not crispy but soggy. Still good though. Got the chili chicken, it was okay. I wasn't too impressed as I've had better. Would try other dishes next time read more

This is one of the relatively rare Indian Chinese places actually run by Indian Chinese (they're from Mumbai). Unfortunately they don't accept credit cards unless the bill is $25 or more, and you don't get free steamed rice with entrées. That said the lunch specials are great. The lunch specials are a large portion for the rice (and the meat too, if you don't choose shrimp). Bombay chicken is Indian-style fried chicken tossed with chili & other spices. It was very tasty. Manchurian shrimp was not crispy but they were big and fresh tasting. The Manchurian sauce was great - robust, with good coriander flavour. The fried rice was pretty good too (vegetable fried rice has no egg, and egg fried rice has no fresh vegetables though it has frozen mixed vegetables [carrot & peas]). Egg fried rice is better. Disclaimer, this review is only based on the chicken pakora. So on some nights my parents will send me out to go pick up an order of chicken pakora to go with our home cooked meal as an extra side dish. Most of the time we order from Golden China which is by far my family's favourite hitting the mark on both value, size, and price. But for some reason that night Golden China was closed and we were craving some chicken pakora! So, we decided to try out Hakka Legend Asian Cuisine. We didn't have to look far as it was just around the corner and in the next plaza over. Ordered via phone and then went there after 10 mins for pick up. The staff were nice, we paid cash and didn't get the usual 10% cash discount like most Hakka places. The chicken pieces were smaller than our usual spot BUTTTTT the game changer was the sauce! This place attaches a sauce with an order of chicken pakora. It's this tangy vinaigrette that made the chicken pakora taste THAT MUCH better earning it a 4/5 star review. We haas dinner here and ordered the chicken pakora and chicken and shrimp hot and sour soup. The pakoras were crunchy on the outside and the chicken was moiSt and tender. The flavourr can through with every bite. This dish comes with its own dipping sauce which is a perfect compliment to these Indian style chicken meat balls. I usually ask for a few lime wedges, a small spritz if lime juice really boots the flavour of chicken dish. The hot and sour soup was served fresh and hot, filled with buried pieces of chicken, shrimp, pickled mushrooms, and some veggies. It was a little saltier than I personally liked, but my family seemed to enjoy it. For our main courses we ordered the Singapore nooodles with chicken and shrimp. This is a pretty standard dish, it was loaded with meat, shrimp, and egg, and had lots of curry flavour and turmeric, and some onions. However, I was not disappointed this time since the food was great. I enjoyed the spicy Bombay chicken and the fried rice was great too with a generous amount of shrimp in it. But as typical for many other Indian/ Hakka restaurants, it starts to pick up around 8:30/9pm The food overall, was really tasty! We ordered: Chicken Pakoras - Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside Bollywood Paneer sizzler - A really good vegetarian option! The Paneer is in cubes and coated in a batter, then fried and toasted in a tandoori-like sauce Chicken in Spicy Garlic Sauce - First time trying this item and it was really good! Veggie Hakka Noodles - AMAZING! They were so thick and flavourful! Plain Rice ( $1 extra ) The service was good, and the food was prepared so quickly! Overall it was pretty good. It's in a quiet plaza just south of Frederick's, which is a more well-known Hakka restaurant - making comparisons between the two natural. Frederick's offers literally more (both in menu options and quantity), but Hakka Legend, in my experience, has a slight edge in flavour and taste in some of its dishes. FOOD Manchurian chicken: this is my go-to Hakka dish. At Hakka Legend, it was good but not incredible. The colour of the sauce was less vivid than others (and that's a good thing - I find I am a bit more cautious eating bright red foods than dull coloured sauces). 3.5/5 Bombay chicken: amazing flavour in this dry rub dish, although it leans to the slightly salty end. This has plenty of kick, and the more you eat it, the more the heat will kick in. 4.5/5 Lunch specials come with your choice of soup or spring roll. Neither were particularly amazing, but the spring roll tasted oily and soggy the first time I had it. The second time around, it was slightly better, but I definitely wouldn't come here for those. SERVICE You get your seats and your order in pretty quickly, and your food comes not too long after that, but that's where it seems to end. It's not too busy, so the slow service is really puzzling. We had our water refilled once (and only after a few minutes of trying to flag someone down), and this has happened almost every time I've been here. To be fair, the owner seems to care when he's not in the kitchen, but the serving staff are definitely not appearing interested in customer service. My thought is that restaurants that want to get away with shoddy service or check-ins should really provide whole pitchers of water/drinks. How can you serve spicy foods and not expect people to get thirsty? The service pulls it down to a 3/5. I've tried so many Hakka places in the GTA and I definitely believe this is one of the best. The portion sizes are a bit smaller than some other Hakka places, but the flavour definitely makes up for it! The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The owner is always present and so nice however the elder man working is the best! He is always happy to help if there is something wrong with the food and he always replaces the item without hesitation! Small restaurant with great spicy, Indian-Chinese food and great service! My family is a HUGE fan of this place. The cook used to cook at Tangerine in Markham (circa when their food used to be good). We order from here for every family get together. We typically order the crab corn soup, chicken pakora, Cantonese chow mein and Guyanese fried rice. The pakoras are a bit batter heavy now, but still ok. Crab corn soup has artificial crab. Other than that, we love it. It's a testament in itself that we order from here regularly and we're West Indian. read more

The server who took our order , she was fine and able to answer our inquiries and suggested the appropriate size for two of us. Food & price value: 5/5 Service was good at the beginning and eating process. The server kept pouring water for us and got us napkins, everything seemed fine. We shared food so we were given two bowls but one has food remains or dirty stains on it so we asked to exchange one... one score lost due to the improper cleaning ..... having said that .. not a big deal . We were still enjoying the taste of the food at a good value. We spent almost two hours chatting while we were the only table in the restaurant. Okay, all of a sudden, the server (~ different one not the one who took the order) gave us a bill and asking us to pay debit or cash ...during our conversation... that means basically our dinner was interrupted inappropriately without asking, and getting us to pay the bill first..... I then asked ok, are you closing up your cash ? She said no but still standing there and waiting to take our payment. .. then we didn't wanna stay anymore and we paid cash and left unpleasantly.... the server could have handled this better. And we haven't ask for the bill yet....... it is understandable to empty the table at the restaurant if we were occupying your table while your restaurant is full or other customers were waiting badly. I would definitely look forward the improvement on the payment process. It was not a good impression at the end of our dining experience at this location of Hakka legend in Markham store. Tip: take out 10% off if order is over $20. This was not my go-to place, but had to settle since Frederick (just across the next block) was closed for take-out that night. I ordered the chilli chicken, garlic eggplants and the pankora chicken. The order itself was extremely fast (10 mins to get prepared) but when I went into the restaurant it surprised me a little that it was empty about 30min before closing on a friday night. It was my first time here so... benefit of the doubt - total $30. While driving past Frederick, which was closing in about 30min as well, I saw many people inside still eating (sadly takeout/last call closed)... hmmmm... I brought the food home, and after tasting it, I could honestly say that it was food court quality at best. Kinda of a rip-off for $30... Please see attached picture of the food taken. Been to this restaurant for quite a few times now. I am a huge fan of Indo-Chinese food and i tell you this place is a gem for someone looking to satisfy their taste palate with spicy indo-chinese cuisine. The person who runs this place is always smiling and a happy go lucky guy. Everything we have tried here so far has met our expectations of Indo-Chinese food in GTA. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegetarians especially bcz the staff said that vegan/vegetarian food is cooked separately from non vegetarian food which is good. The spice level can be adjusted as per your taste bud. So there is something for all.
