My usual favourite dish, basil chicken is tasty but you really don't get much chicken, they have made it with 80% rice, way too much rice. Last time I had it the rice was also very dry. I came here with my family after visiting the Christmas Market at the Distillery District. This restaurant was only a short walk away, and provided an additional option for those who prefer not to eat overpriced mediocre food at the Christmas market. Sukhothai offers authentic Thai cuisine in a modern relaxed setting. The service was top notch, but the food was absolutely amazing!!! We ordered the Khao Soi with chicken and the Thai Yellow Curry with chicken. The golden curry base in both dishes was thick and creamy and PACKED with flavour! The main difference was that their Thai yellow curry was served with jasmine rice, and the Khao Soi was served with with egg noodles and a crispy noodle garnish. So it really comes down to your personal preference. For me, I personally like that mixture of the crunchy and soft egg noodles, so I would rate the Khao Soi a solid 5/5! and the Thai yellow curry a 4.5/5. We also tried the Sukhothai Pad Thai. There's a reason why they named this dish after themselves! This is probably as close as you can get to authentic Pad Thai without buying a plane ticket to Thailand! You taste all the individual ingredients, the fish sauce and tamarind sauce, cilantro, tofu, egg, cabbage, pickled radish, and beansprouts, mixed in with rice noodles. If you're only going to try one dish, make this the one! I would rate it a 10/5 if I could. Definitely a must try!!! read more

This Thai restaurant has been a Toronto mainstay for more than 15 years. Opened by the same couple who operate Pai, this restaurant serves delicious food with rich flavours. Today we got the cashew chicken. Its sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and salty. We also tried their Pad Kee Mao, which is the spicier and more savoury cousin of the pad Thai. It was my first time trying that dish and suffice to say I was a big fan. The deep salty flavours were well balanced by the stir fried veggies mixed. A decent Thai chain with several locations across downtown Toronto. I tried the Panang Braised Beef Curry based on a recommendation from a friend and it blew me away. It was creamy with all the right flavours, and paired with the jasmine rice... literal perfection. I still dream about it. The fresh rolls are also quite nice, and I have their Limeade a try - nothing special there. I'd definitely recommend this spot for the panang curry alone. read more

I go to sukho when I can't get a reservation at pai since they're both under the same owner. Their fish green curry is a favorite of mine, but it's gotten quite spicy even mild spiciness is requested. I feel this place has also bumped up their prices recently. My wife and I went to Sukho Thai during Ramadhan to break our fast as we were craving some halal Thai food. I had been to Sukho Thai a few years ago, but this was my first time going in a while. As we entered, we were greeted by a nice waiter who showed us to an empty desk, reassuring that the food was indeed still halal. My wife and I ended up getting two dishes. A stir fried beef and a chicken khao soi. Both dishes were nothing less than amazing. They were a perfect blend of spicy and tasty. The price was also very reasonable. I'm surprised the rating is so low for this hidden gem. We truly enjoyed ourselves. We started with the shirmp chips. They are crunchy, light, and not at all greasy. They are sooooo good that we ended up taking the rest back to the hotel for an afternoon snack. The dipping sauce was an absolute delight too!!! Our second appetizer was the lecture cups, which were very well executed. Lemongrass beef is tender and tasty. The fish sauce on the side is well made (not an easy task!). The pad thai is a little on the sweet side for me, and I would have enjoyed a bit more veggies (bell peppers or even carrots would be welcome). Set in the idyllic Canary district, Sukho Thai is a cozy little restaurant with patio dining. The employees are friendly, and the decor is nice. My friend and I ordered calamari to share, which was quite good. The batter was light and not oily. We also got the khao soi with chicken. The sauce was sweet and enough to cover the noodles. The other dish we tried was Nua Gra Teaum (Garlic Beef) which comes with a fried egg on top of the jasmine rice. The beef was tough and I gave up on it. Overall, I would rate my experience a 3.5/5. The food is pretty good, would definitely recommend any of the curries or soups because the flavour is fantastic! The other items are a bit lackluster in comparison. The crunchy springs rolls are fantastic and flavourful, while the fresh rolls are a tad bit on the plain side. I like the inclusion of mango to the fresh rolls though! However, I think there's like 1 shrimp in the roll, which you may not taste depending on what half you eat. The khao soi soup base is amazing and flavourful. I got the mild and thought it would be great for people who may not have very good spice tolerance but want a little kick. You can ask for some of the spicy oil on the side though! The crunchy noodle is great for the texture, but there is this strange aftertaste that I can't quite put my finger on. It may be the type of oil they used to fry it, but it tastes...burnt or vaguely like plastic? But it's not actually burnt. The pla taud fish was HUGE, surprisingly large compared to what we imagined. It was nice and crispy, but felt like it should be accompanied by some other sauce or a small curry because it felt like it was missing something. The fish also did have a semblance of the strange aftertaste on the crunchy noodles, which I think is indeed from the oil used. The Thai milk tea was a bit disappointing to me. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious and very creamy sweet, but I wanted a bit more of that tea flavour. The tea didn't feel very prominent, which could be a good thing for those who don't like the bitterness. However, I love super strong and bitter tea paired with sweetness and cream. read more

this was one of my favourite Thai food locations in Toronto until today. Toronto is still under a lockdown as I write this review, only 2 people are allowed in Sukhothai due to COVID restrictions. I preordered and arrived in time to pick up my order however there was five people waiting outside of Sukhothai..... I ended up waiting 45min for my order and I was told it would be ready in 20min. The food was ok but the take-out containers have become much smaller than what they previously used last year. It's pricey for the portion size one gets. Three spring rolls are $9 Chicken pad Thai $17.50 Green Curry is $17.50 it adds up fast and there are other local options for Thai food that are give better value and quality..... would not recommend going to this location. read more

One of my fav place for pad Thai in the city! Their pad Thai is authentic and amazing~ not your typical sour ketchup based pad Thai you get at most fast food joints/ lower end Thai restaurants. This is the location that is literally at the bottom of my condo and I barely go anymore. Several reasons: (a) the texture of the Pad Thai is inconsistent from order to order. Sometimes, it's perfect and other times it's almost mushy. (b) the spice level is very inconsistent also- I usually order medium but sometimes it's VERY hot to the point where I can barely eat it. (c) the price of this dish has increased by $3.5 lol it used to be $16.50 and now it's $20, and I just don't see the value anymore. How did this chain get it so wrong at this location. Funny as I type this ... this place ended things poorly with a date I was with. Service is abysmal. Sure the wait staff is polite etc but if you are sitting outside good luck getting anyone to bring you anything without having to wait a while. Just all around bad service. Food was atrocious. Went here based on my recommendation and it was a disaster because date was really upset and it ended up ruining our night and yes it ended between us. Asked for a new one which they staff was really apologetic about and served up a right out the frying pan new batch except this time it was undercooked. At this stage we are losing our patience. So disappointed. I love this restaurant. Was served raw salmon Panang three times!! We sent back the first two dishes and asked to have the salmon cooked longer. They offered a complimentary mango salad as an apology while we waited for another (cooked) salmon. We opted to split another salmon Panang instead of getting two more. We have visited Sukthai many times, but yesterday was the first time we were denied seating at a particular spot. I had requested to be seated on the bench because it's easier for my kids to sit there without needing a booster seat. However, the hostess refused and asked, "Can't you sit there?" pointing at the table of six closest to the door. I would have been more understanding; however, the restaurant was empty! She mentioned that the bench seats were reserved for couples or two-seaters, which confused me as we had sat there before and on more than one occasion. We went back and forth, but I eventually gave up. I didn't want to argue or fight over seats. It's disappointing because we usually go there for a quick meal, and one poor customer service experience can leave a lasting impression. We have decided not to go there again. There's only around 20 seats or so- we got really lucky because we were seated right away and a line formed after us. We got the khao soi, pad Thai, beef satay skewers, Tom Yum soup, and masaman curry. We ordered medium spice for all of them, and was informed that the Tom yum soup is going to be a bit spicier than medium- our server was right. It was super rich and definitely packed best but had a nice smoky flavour. The khao soi was not spicy at all- probably because of the coconut milk base. It was delicious but quite small. The pad Thai is probably one of the best around the GTA. Could be personal preference, but it was just the right amount of tamarind and spices. Also not oily or overlooked. Skewers were pretty small as well- 4 for $12. Very thin but tender. Nothing too special. We had the shrimp masaman curry but I find that the rice that it came with was too small for all the curry they gave. We ordered extra rice just to soak up all the delicious curry. Even though it was medium spice, I'd have to say that it's spicier than the standard "medium" at most places. I eat quite spicy so this is just a warning to those who don't, based on my friends' reaction to the soup, curry, and pad Thai. read more

Went here tonight for the first time in awhile. Did this place undergo new management or something? Server staff were so rude and incompetent - I ordered a curry and my sister ordered a chicken and rice dish. Her dish came out 10 minutes earlier than mine and when mine DID come out - it was wrong. 100% due to the fact that she didn't even write down our orders when we told her what we want. ANYWAY I told the server and she didn't apologize or anything... She just looked at me like I inconvenienced her life with the dirtiest look. Lol. My new dish came out like 25 minutes later - my rice was now cold. no apologies, no comments, just the dish placed quickly and her rushing off to God knows where. Honestly... I've worked in the service industry for years and even when I had a bad day or whatever... It was NO excuse to be that rude... People are PAYING you for service lol. But anyway, we still tipped even if she was absolute trash. Not wasting my money in this establishment for AWHILE. Only putting 2 stars because if you do takeout, the foods ok. I've been craving Thai food a lot recently, I think. I came in here on a Saturday afternoon. It must've just open for lunch as I was the only one there. But that meant I got quick and friendly service. I really liked the good here. I thought the flavors we're really good here. I started with the crispy spring rolls which were delicious. Then I had the gaeng masaman. I loved the tamarind sauce it was made with, which have it a tartness that made it taste so good. I had a that ice tea to go along with all of this. The portion was huge, so needless to say, I had plenty of left overs. Which I glad do try to eat and saved for the next day. But the other reason was too make room for dessert. I ordered the cassava cake, which reminded me so much of cassava cake I used to eat growing up. This was very sweet though, and I wish they would cut back on the sweetness by half. But regardless, I still loved it. The meal was great overall. Other than the sweetness level of the cassava cake being too sweet, I thought the rice came served on a weird plate. It was too small to eat directly from. I guess I was supposed to mix it into the curry? But I prefer eating it where the curry is poured over there rice, I guess. They were happy to give me a bigger plate though, so I was able to happily eat it my way! Location wise, it's got maybe 15-20 seats. I suspect they'll have outdoor seating in the summer. I am usually not a huge fan of Sukhothai but we've recently moved to the area so I must say we were pretty desperate to find a spot for regular weeknight takeout. To my surprise, this Sukhothai located in Corktown is actually pretty decent for what it is.. I know it's a very small space to dine-in but I didn't mind it when we first visited the spot. However, I do agree that it's probably best to avoid dining in here and just order take-out. Their padthai is surprisingly delicious if you enjoy the chewy texture of thai rice noodles. Not a lot of places are able to keep the texture so chewy and I just love that about it. The pad thai was not cooked with western ketchup and there's just so much aroma to it. We've also tried Tom Yum in the past, honestly they are pretty generous with the amount of shrimp they put in there. It's jam-packed with flavours and just the right amount of heat! We've also tried a couple of other curry dishes and they are not bad as well :) I am not sure why the other yelpers are giving such poor reviews for this Sukhothai. Perhaps I came during an odd time of the day and they weren't busy busting their a$$ off for Ubereats? 10/10 would come back for basic thai dishes. read more

Stoked that this place is finally open! IMO one of the best thai restaurants in toronto. If you haven't tried, stop by here or one of the other 3 locations. My go to is the khao soi (not sure if I'm spelling that right). Very rich, creamy curry noodles that is perfect for the fall/winter season. All the other food options are amazing. The food is killer but they don't staff the restaurant well enough to handle the business. If they had even one more server then this place would be a 4 or 4.5 star place. It is unquestionably the busiest and best restaurant in this weird little neighborhood and the staff are super sweet. Sadly I think that if I had ordered my food through Uber Eats it would have arrived at my table faster than the in-house service, but again, that isn't the staff's fault.
