Vino è Bueno! Wine IS good and Spero has some really tasty varietals! Spero is a family owned winery in Denver just off 64th. #SupportLocal! Spero purchases grapes from vineyards in Palisade (home of the best grape and peach), Pueblo and Lodi, CA but regardless, the blends are super. I tend to favor fruit wines and the Pomegranate and the Raspberry Red were my favorite. Their specialty wine, the Vino Ghiacciato, is also fabulously smooth. I tasted a hint of chocolate so could be why? Either way, it is well worth the $30/bottle price tag. Whites run $16 and reds $17. Very good price points for award winning wines! The tasting room is open to walk-ins on Saturdays only from 1-5p. The pours are generous (and complimentary) and what is even more wonderful, limitless. The only wine not on the tasting menu was a/the Pinot Grigio but Spero has plenty to choose from. Grab a list and a glass and let the sampling begin. Traveling from Texas, this is one of the last wineries my family stopped at. As the saying goes, save the best for last. My parents are avid wine tasters, while I myself only dabble in the occasional taste. For all of us, this was by far our favorite place. They had the best wine of our entire trip. More than that though, my two year old daughter was with us when we visited Spero's. The staff was so kind and catered to her, especially the live musician. He sang for her to dance and got us all to join in. I have not had a better experience at a winery than this. If I had more stars, I'd give them. Thank y'all so much! read more

Wine is terrible! All whites are off color, very sweet even if described as dry. Reds are also sweet and taste like kids cough syrup. I travel a lot and grew up in Napa. This is the worst wine I have ever had. read more

What a fantastic winery, located fairly close to me! The location outside isn't the prettiest, but considering it's in Denver, I have no complaints. We came in for the free tasting from 1-5. We ran a little lasts and arrived about 415, but the servers were really sweet about everyone staying a little past closing. In fact, everyone was super friendly and informative! I enjoyed the fruit based wines the most- the pomegranate was my favorite. And apparently if you buy a case you automatically get invited to a big party right before Mother's Day- so if you have the opportunity it sounded really fun. So, I had to trek all the way down to the Manitou Springs Wine Festival to find out about this fantastic winery just up the street from my house? While not a fan of their whites, personally, I am in LOVE with their reds. They are tasty and fantastic with dinner or when just having a glass of wine on the patio with friends. I have friends that don't even like wine that love the reds here! And, you have got to love the bottles! They are so unique, ordered from Italy. The bottles are actually so cool that they will give you a discount on your next purchase if you bring them back to be reused. The only reason they lose one star is because we dropped in on a particularly disgustingly hot day and they don't have air conditioning here, and they really couldn't keep the whites cold (maybe their whites are better than I think they are, I've only had them semi-warm). Otherwise, it was a five star experience, free wine tasting, friendly service and great wines! read more

I'm kind of crushing on the winemaker at Spero. Not romantically, but more like in an I-wish-he-was-my-grandfather kind of way because he is so awesome. Although Spero is only open on Saturdays for tastings traditionally they let a group of us come by on a Thursday to do wine tastings, and as it turned out wine buyings. They make a lot of varietals and some really interesting flavors of wine. And you can taste them all in this cute little building that has several round tables and an old jukebox. I'd actually recommend considering this place if you're looking for an event space, for example a wedding reception area. It's adorable and I bet it would be tons of fun for a party like that. The other pretty cool thing here is the pricing. It's all standard - reds are one price and whites are another, no matter what the varietal is. I've not seen pricing like that before, but I think it's a pretty sweet deal! read more

I finally returned to Spero a couple weeks ago, when my friend was visiting from out of town, and it was just as fabulous as the first time! A bit more crowded, but they always made sure that nobody had an empty glass. It's still free to taste... whatever you want, however much you want. The platter of meats and cheeses still sits on the bar, and is constantly being refilled. They even had plenty bottles of our favorite, the Sangiovese, that was so hard to find a couple years ago! They still take $1 off when you bring in one of their empty bottles. We actually received a free bottle of Colorado Cabernet because our old bottle broke before we had a chance to open it. (Imagine picking up a bottle of wine, and the bottom stays put....such a sad sight of wine gushing everywhere but in my mouth). I brought the bottle with us, and they were happy to replace it (after several jokes at my expensive, of course). So wine-lovers, please do yourself a favor and check out Spero. Tasting all of their wine again helped me to remember just how amazing this winery is. Plus, they are so hospitable and make you feel like part of their family. read more

Definitely a diamond in the rough. Near Lowell and 64th, this largish metal shed houses a fun tasting room that is better than some of the ones I have visited in Napa. I went here with a friend. We were in this part of town, and we had some time to kill. I sampled all the white wines and most of the dessert wines. The whites ranged from "very tasty" to "not my cup of tea". The owners were generous with their pours, and the crowd seemed to really be enjoying themselves. The white wines are $15 a bottle, the reds are $16. The ice wine (merlot-based i believe) is a pricey $30 for a split (375ml). But, when you taste it, you will know why. It was amazing. It was quite sweet (as expected) with notes of raspberry, blackberry, cherry, etc. If you could make this in to a jam, it would be my toast topping of choice. They gourmet salami, cheese, and crackers on the side table were a welcome addition. read more

I so love this special winery! Clyde and June are so friendly and welcoming every time we come to visit. They make you feel at home. The wine tasting is free, but their wines are so good, you will want to take a couple of bottles (or more) home. Found this winery on a whim in Denver during our visit. It is a small winery but the people working there were very friendly! They are only open on Saturdays. Good wine. I'm leaving this review purely based off the customer experience I received from the "owner/wine maker" as she called herself. I asked her "what was her favorite?" Unknowing this woman is the owner. Her response lacked in customer care. She chose to respond by saying "you should never ask a wine owner or maker what their favorite wine is, you just don't do it" Pardon me for first and foremost not knowing you are the owner as you did not introduce yourself or carrying yourself as a professional owner. Secondly, I don't appreciate you speaking down to me as if I was supposed to know that. It is my first and my last time coming to this winery. They have free wine tasting every Saturday from 1pm-5pm along with cheese and crackers! They give you a list of all the wines they offer and you can just make your way down the list during the tasting. They offer 15+ wines ranging from white wine, red wine, and dessert wine. While I wasn't a fan of all of their wines it was FREE. How can I say anything negative about that? When you first approach the winery you're greeted by a gravel parking lot and a large white building. There's not much to indicate that it's a winery aside from the small sign up front with balloons tied to it. Inside you'll find a large and dimly lit space that's filled with round tables and decorated with charming photographs. Booth June and Clyde, thé owners, were most gracious as we visitéd their winery operation. It is a great place to park an RV for a night through the Harvest Host program. We purchased 10 bottes of wine following a wine tasting. It wasn't until two days later that a bottle of Gewurztraminer exploaded all over our RV. Looking at the remaining contents in that bottle, jthé wine was cloudy and had residue at thé bottom of thé bottle. Two days later, a second bottle of Gewurztraminer exploded. Lesson to be learned is to check all bottles before they are placed in bags. The remainder of our wine purchase seems to be fine. read more

I have been to Spero on two different occasions and extremely enjoyed it both times. They are extremely friendly and passionate about their wines. They always have cheese, crackers, meat, etc. They are only open on Saturdays or by appointment. I'm a big fan of the Merlot as well as the Cab/Merlot blend. You can't go wrong with any of their wines. They offer case discounts of 1 = 10%, 2 = 15%, and 3 = 20% . They also offer a dollar discount on each bottle you return. A few friends and I recently went to Spero Winery and we all had a blast. I'll say upfront that the wine selection wasn't necessarily the type I usually go for (I'm a fan of Pinot Noir, personally), but the atmosphere and staff were fantastic. And though most of the wines weren't what I would choose, they have an impressive wall of medals and trophies for several of their wines. There's no actual vineyard here, as the grapes are brought in from California and Colorado, but the winery itself is quaint and the owner and staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. There are 19 wines on the tasting list and we went through each one, starting with the whites. I will say the Cab Sav is actually really good and I managed to find a white that wasn't too sweet or too dry - the Cayuga White. There was ample seating and complimentary snacks (dee-lish!). There's no reservation system or anything so it made for a very fun and informal afternoon. The wine tasting was free, though I did purchase a couple bottles on the way out (about $15 per bottle.) Funny side note: their electricity happened to go out that afternoon and the entire tasting area was illuminated by candle light - while I'm sure it was an inconvenience for them, it REALLY added to the ambience. For a fun, free and relaxing afternoon, I would absolutely recommend checking out Spero. read more

Spero winery got some pretty good reviews on Yelp and Google so we thought we would check it out. The wine was decent and the tasting room was small. You could only taste really at the bar but if there were already 6 other people you were squished. The man pouring our wine wasn't very talkative and didn't explain anything about the wines we were drinking. Usually they give descriptions about each wine which I always find helpful but this place didn't. My husband really enjoyed what they called a "kool-aid" wine and we will come back to buy that one but that's probably it. Wasn't an awful experience but definitely wasn't the best. One good thing about this place is wow did he poor some big tasting glasses! I was feeling really good about myself when I left :) read more

What a wonderful time our large group had at Spero WInery last night! Clyde & June have a passion for their business and it shows and TASTES in their wines!! For the love of Pete this place is awesome! The hubby and I were invited to meet a couple friends here for a tasting on Saturday afternoon. After Googling the directions we were rather surprised at the location, but as soon as we turned into the gravel parking lot and saw that long warehouse-type building it felt like we were back in Sonoma visiting those wonderful mom & pop wineries off the beaten paths. The tasting room is nicely decorated with some round tables where you can sit and enjoy bites from the complimentary charcuterie platters with a glass of whatever floats your boat. I hear you can rent the place to throw your own party - we're looking into that! The bar is lovely and the owner/winemaker and his family/staff are even lovelier! There must have been at least 15 wines on their (FREE) tasting menu, and I think we got through about 10 of those before we decided we needed to put together a mixed case to take home. The wines are simply priced, I think about $16/bottle, regardless of varietal. AND, if your bring your empties back, you get a discount on your next bottle! Sweet! Not the first time I've been to Spero and definitely not my last. Stop in for a free tasting any Saturday afternoon. You will experience around 16 different wines for free & a friendly, helpful staff. Spero has some cheese, cured meats, and crackers to enjoy with your wine and don't miss the water cooler along the back water. That comes in handy when there are so many wines to try. Does Spero have the best wines I've ever had? Not always - but what they do have are some very solid, well balanced red wines. The other folks in our group really enjoyed the whites while I found them all to be a little too much on the sweet side. The definite stand outs for me are the Sangiovese, Colorado Cabernet Franc, and the Merlot dessert wine. If you order by the case you get a discount and also an invite to their annual party. Typical bottles of wine are around $15. Spero is family run and they've decorated their tasting room with their wines that have won medals and pictures of their family & travels. Spero is located just east of 64th & Lowell on the south side of 64th. Except for the tiny winery sign on the side of the road, you'd never know it even existed. read more

This was second on my list of Denver-area wineries to visit. Their tasting room is the biggest I've seen so far locally, with many tables and chairs to sit at. This made for a relaxed tasting where you could go at your own pace, and stop and chat in the middle if you wanted. There were multiple people pouring wines, including the owner (brother-in-law of John Balistreri) standing behind the bar and chatting with friends. The two other wine pourers, a husband and wife who volunteer, were so knowledgeable about wine! What I like the most about going to Balistreri is how much John knows about each and every wine, and these two were certainly doing their best at Spero! There was a great cheese and salami plate similar to the one at Balisteri, free, as well as the 20+ wines that were free to taste. I liked and purchased a merlot, and I don't normally like merlots! Some of the whites were very green and I could taste them in my mouth days later. Colorado just produces different tasting wines though. Really fun stop if you're making a wine tour. read more

Not only are the wines great, but they also have seating areas with music, as well as salami and cheese plates to keep you from getting too tipsy!
