All of the staff were friendly and helped us get settled in, even offering a dog water bowl and little dog yoga mats so they would be comfy on the gravel. We ordered a flight - 6 tastes for $15, highly recommend and we treated ourselves to a post-hike baked brie that was perfect. We found out that if you order three bottles of wine to take home your tasting is free, so naturally... :) I will call ahead and make a reservation next time so we can be seated right by the river. We weren't quite sure where to enter from the back parking lot, but we saw a "Wine Tasting This Way" sign that led us through an area being set up for a wedding...whoops! Not sure if the sign had been moved or simply hadn't been moved for the wedding. Once we made our way to the tasting area, it was extremely busy and we had no idea where or how to check in. We eventually asked someone who came up to the register to check out another guest, and they promptly got us checked in. The tasting itself was nice, we tasted about 20 diff wines, and we had a lovely girl serving us. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was as first time visitors, we weren't given any info about how the tasting experience worked. It took about an hour and a half, and we didn't receive the advertised tour that was included. After the tasting, we were ready to purchase some wine and waited behind another couple who was checking out. However, no one ever acknowledged us or came over to help us check out. I think this place is probably great, but the disorganized check-in, lack of clear signage, and inattentive staff made the experience more difficult. Blanchard Family Wines is located in the Dairy Block off of Wazee near Union Station. We went in around the holidays in December and were met with prompt service and very kind servers. By joining the club, it was a monthly excuse to plan a special night out to what became one of our favorite places for date night. It's been a couple of years now, but we had occassion to meet the owners, when we mistook their closing time for an hour later. The lights were still on, so we didn't realize our mistake, until they'd already invited us in to exchange our monthly growler with such warmth. Super nice people, reflecting the vibe we always felt on our other visits. The staff echoes that disposition, always friendly and knowledgeable. Though the winery isn't on-site, I've always been impressed with their tasting experience. I've now been a member for over 5 years, going in at least once a month, and they still suggest trying seasonal options and have broadened my palette... Though my ex and I have parted ways for a long while now and he moved away, he's kept our membership current, calling it my "alimony," and a nod to remembering the good times we had together.
