Wine tasting
Gina K.

I can't believe this winery is so close to Denver. Driving into the property you feel like you may be in the wrong place with all the industrial building around but keep following the GPS. Park in the back and you will get a first hand view of charming patio where they host weddings and special events. We had a reservation for the tasting which is a steal! You get to taste all of their wines for $20. Having done plenty of wine tasting in the Midwest I was fully expecting a similar experience of white being better than the reds but that was not the case at Balisteri. The grandson of the original owner was our host for the tasting. He clearly knew his wines, flavor profiles, was friendly and conversational - giving us a ton of information about the history of the place and some of the wines. Their grapes come from Palisade and California. After the tasting we took a tour of the facility and learned about the process they still conduct - very hands on by the whole family including the grandkids that stomp the grapes. We ordered a few bottles and didn't walk away with a headache because they don't use sulfites.

It's a great choice to celebrate a special birthday for a friend! However, the location is a bit unusual since it's in an industrial area. They do have a nice garden in both the front and back, but the downside is that the parking area and entrance are gravel. If you're seated nearby, the gravel can get kicked up every time a car pulls in. The waitress was friendly and provided good service; however, she was extremely slow in attending to our table and taking our order. We had a reservation at 1 p.m. on a Saturday, but she didn't take our order until 2 p.m., and our food was delivered around 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. We needed to leave early because they were hosting a big event for a radio station, and everyone started to move the tables around us to set up. We had to leave before 4:30 p.m. The wine tasting costs $20 per person, and you get to sample over 20 types of wine. Each sample is supposed to be an ounce, though a few unfortunately had smaller portions. I loved their rosé! The fruit burrata is delicious! The mushroom risotto, however, was undercooked, so we had to send it back. The second attempt had softer rice, but there were still some hard bits. I also ordered the Calabrian mussels, but they were out of mussels, so I ended up getting the cherry salad and wild mushroom bisque. Both were good but not very filling. I tried a bite of the braised short rib, and the meat was very tender and tasty; I'll get that next time. We didn't have dessert since we brought our cake. The French press coffee was amazing and a perfect end to our lunch! Despite some downsides, I will come back every time I can! Wines are very good!

What a perfect Sunday afternoon treat! The location is tucked in the industrial area but a great place to enjoy inside or outside if the weather is good. You can either enjoy the tasting bar and try several wine selections they offer, or you can sit at a table enjoy wine and some delicious food. The service is just as knowledgeable on the wine and food and very helpful. Can't wait to come back.

Aesthetically lovely with good service, but lacking some inclusivity and accessibility elements. Had a glass of wine here on an early afternoon on a Friday. No trouble finding parking or a place to sit. The outdoor seating area is nice, with both shady and sunny spots. The little water feature is cute. Our server was very friendly, and let us know a bit about the winery, and that there are wine tours if we were interested. We ordered and received wine and food in a reasonable amount of time. And the frequency in which the server checked in on us was just the right amount. The reasons I gave three stars instead of five is because of the opportunity to be more inclusive. There are no gender neutral restrooms, and there are a lack of smooth entrances for certain mobility aids. The parking lots are all gravel, and the ramp that leads up to the winery building is also gravel. There are also no automatic doors or door buttons. If I overlooked a gender neutral bathroom, or a more accessible entrance, I am happy to change my review and increase my rating.

We made reservations for this winery months in advance, as we were a large party celebrating a special occasion. Upon arriving on time, we were asked to stand behind the bar in a separate room with a table of wine bottles while others were seated, as they were preparing for a wedding. As we waited for the rest of our group, no one came to introduce themselves or offer us chairs, leaving us standing in heels, confused and uncomfortable. Finally, Kiana, our wine server, introduced herself. She was kind, but it didn't resolve the confusion over why we were left standing while everyone else was seated. To make matters worse, the person who initially led us to the table informed us that we couldn't order food because they were short-staffed and hadn't agreed on food in advance. This was extremely frustrating, given that we had planned this months ago. One of the bridesmaids and I decided to speak to the manager privately about our concerns. To our surprise, the person who had first greeted us was actually the "manager for the weekend," Curtis. His customer service was appalling--rude, dismissive, and unprofessional, with constant eye-rolling. When we explained our frustration, instead of addressing our concerns, he became defensive and made no effort to listen. His response to our seating issue was to sarcastically offer us four chairs for a party of ten. Eventually, we managed to get more chairs ourselves. Back at our table, Kiana returned and asked why we seemed upset. We explained our disappointment: we had expected to be seated at a proper table, order some snacks, enjoy the wine tasting, and receive a tour. She was understanding and mentioned that busy days like this, with events and tours happening simultaneously, were common. She offered to check on food availability and came back to let us know we could order small bites and salads, but by that point, the bride and the rest of us had already lost interest. The whole experience was a letdown--poor service, terrible wine, and Curtis's awful attitude completely ruined what was supposed to be a special day. We later found out that no senior management or ownership was on-site, leaving the team severely understaffed. The lack of leadership and customer care was apparent. Towards the end, we did receive a tour from Johnny, who was friendly and knowledgeable, but by then, the damage was done. It's also worth noting that there should be different tasting packages offered--perhaps 8, 12, or 18 wines. We endured 18 terrible wines over the course of three hours, and it felt like getting food was discouraged. To make things worse, we were told that the lack of chairs was deliberate, as they didn't want guests to "overstay." If that's the case, they should improve the wine selection and set time limits for each reservation instead of making their guests feel unwelcome. Overall, the experience was a complete disaster, and the bride was deeply disappointed.

Amazing service! If you like dry wines this place is for you! Blair did our tasting and it was super informative. This tasting was unlike any I've ever done. We got to try 12-15 wines total. They won't service white wines. Only orange and red! We met the owner John who was wonderful to take to and explained how he makes his wines. We took a short tour to the wine cellar with the owners grandson. Overall, wonderful experience and highly recommend! Only critique would be I wished we could have sat instead of stood by the bar for the entire tasting.

Highlights 1. Conveniently located about 15 minutes outside of Denver 2. Lots of wine to try 3. Friendly service Came here for lunch and a tasting with a large group (10!) and loved it! The winery is located about 15 minutes outside of Denver and our group found to really easy to snag an Uber from downtown. We ate lunch outside in the beautiful garden. You have the option to do glasses of wine, wine flights or wine cocktails either lunch. The menu has a great selection of fresh options. We did a few appetizers to share (tartare, bruschetta, and burrata) and they were all super flavorful. I had the risotto with grilled chicken for lunch and thought it was awesome. The wine tasting was amazing fun experience as you get to try ALL of the wines! We also did a quick tour of the wine cellar with Birdie (one of the owners). She was so sweet! Highly recommend. Can't wait to be back!

I didn't know what to expect with a winery in the metro area, however, we were pleasantly surprised. The wine tasting was so fun and reasonably priced, we got a table outside afterwards and ordered more food and drinks. The ambience is incredible, highly recommend!

This place is so cute and well established. Right outside of Denver just 10 minutes away, we didn't know it was here until recently. Such a cute place for a date or celebration! We reserved for lunch and the food was decent. I really enjoyed the summer burrata w the fruits and the peach tiramisu! We also did the wine tour and tasting sample. We tried 18 different wines and received a tour of the place. Highly recommend for a nice afternooon date!

If I could gate keep this place I absolutely would. This is the most ideally located winery near Denver with the only real wine tasting that I have found, an amazing food selection, and great prices. It also has a beautiful event space in the back! Not to mention the service is impeccable. A wine tasting is $20 for around 20 rotating wines that comes with your own sommelier to run you through the flavors and educate you on the types. This was so much fun for my in laws and us to do; and afterwards we grabbed a table for a late lunch. They do close very early on week days and I would recommend making a reservation for tasting plus a reservation for dining online beforehand. My only suggestion would be to add allergen information to the menus please!

Went for Mothers Day lunch here I made my reservation over a month in advance and glad we did it was really busy. When I booked I called and asked if kids were allowed because I had a toddler on oxygen and wanted to make sure space could accommodate him, they said yes. Two days before a gal called and confirmed res and how many children I told her 1 and age. When we get there they tell us they have no high chairs or boosters on their premises which I found off why you wouldn't tell us that both times I mentioned I had a child age 3. Luckily and I mean make a break I brought his stroller and it fit under table. He wasn't exactly able to enjoy meal upright like us being in stroller but we had to make do. Now they were definitely trying to be prepared you could tell they had whole table of drinks labeled ready to go and a lot of plates pre made. Unfortunately you also felt like the food had been sitting on the plate for awhile. I'm shocked they didn't had a cheese plate being a winery that they could have made ahead and I bet every table would have ordered. I will say their soft shell crab in a green curry was amazing and could tell was fresh and they just fried it. The entrees like the short rib felt a little to overprepared. Loved their white sangria and Rose they had. It's definitely a cute hidden place for a party although kind of sketch looking on the way

Had a great afternoon at the winery today celebrating a friends birthday and promotion. We made reservations ahead of time but you can definitely walk in and enjoy wine tasting and lunch here. We did the wine tasting and it was 20+ wines and a tour for $20 a person. You can also reserve a spot for lunch, which you can eat before or after your tasting (or if you need to pause the tasting to eat you can do that as well). We really enjoyed tasting all the different types of wine available! The staff and owners are super friendly and loved to educate patrons on all things wine. The food was just as good as the wine! We didn't cheese and fruit plate and potatoes for apps, and each of us got the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo for entrees. All were so so good. They also let the birthday gal order a dessert on the house and we shared the dark chocolate mousse. It was so yummy! We can't wait to come back this summer!

We made a last minute decision to do a wine tasting and searched for a place near Denver and we were surprise to find one in Denver (it's close to commerce city but the vineyard was beautiful). The family and staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the wine. You can tell they do genuinely like what they do. When we came for the wine tasting, we tasted 19 different wines that was more than what we paid for. There were breadsticks available to clear your palette or help sober up. At the end of the event, I was pretty tipsy but a good tipsy. After the wine tasting, they offered a tour of the vineyard and underground where the barrels are being held. There's a place for lunch and an outdoor area. Overall, very beautiful vineyard.

Is this a family friendly venue or more of an adults only vibe? We have a well behaved 6yo and 8yo.

It has a nice tasting room area with seating, a patio area out front, and a garden area in the back. The kids should be fine for an hour or two tasting or even lunch. It's a great place.

The first thing that grabs you as you're driving through the back, roads of Weld County among farms and ranches is the warmth of this location with trees, a long drive and a small pond. It truly is a picturesque setting and some families were already walking around the pond and nearby grounds taking family photos. We had a small wait for our table, which was not unexpected since had a large group. The drink options were amazing and the bartenders on duty did not disappoint with their preparations. The menu however, was great for those who were seeking carbs, but left something to be desired if you were seeking any protein options. We started with the Charcuterie and Bruschetta Barrata boards along with the Warm Spinach and Artichoke dip. A couple of flatbread pizzas wrapped up the dinner options for us. We were celebrating a birthday and brought a cake in the staff was kind enough to let us keep it in the cooler until it was time to be served. With almost every table filled outdoors and indoors, the staff did a good job of keeping up with our tables needs and balancing the other tables in their respective stations. We did have to seek out our waiter a couple of times to order additional items but they were quite busy. This place is ideal for a light, relaxing meal with drinks and the company of friends. It is not the place to go for those with a hearty appetite as you may be disappointed with the scarcity of options on the menu, but for events in a beautiful setting, you can't go wrong here!
