    Bohemian Absinthe Mule

It's been 2 years since I was last here. Their cozy tasting room and distillery are located in a business park south of 6th Ave and off Colfax Ave in Golden. They have a broad range of distilled spirits. They are open from 4pm-7pm Fri-Sat & 4pm-6pm Tues-Thur. I just happened to visit 2 years ago on their 10th anniversary. I learned they now offer twice monthly cocktail classes where you mix 2 cocktails for $50. The only food to accompany any drinks are pretzels, goldfish crackers and Denver Chips. My first drink was a Manhattan with their Bourbon Whiskey. My 2nd drink was a Bohemian Absinthe Mule in the classic copper mug. The absinthe had a wonderful black licorice taste. My 3rd drink was a Raspberry Lime Ricky with their Damn Smooth Vodka. I was served by Tiffany at the bar. She is relatively new and did check an cheatsheet to make the drinks correctly. Nice conversation with fellow customers. I saw a promotion for Gal's Night Out on April 17 at Echter's Garden Center.

My husband and I went to check out @state38distilling right here in Golden Colorado! It was such a treat! Meghan (bartender) and Don (owner) took excellent care of us the whole time answering lots of questions from us with a big smile and taking great care of everyone in the room even as it became incredibly busy! We both enjoyed the blood orange margarita along with the sample of peach vodka, tequila, and absinthe! The place was packed on this Friday evening with lots of people around our age (30's) - laughing and enjoying their time there. Lots of regulars and also new people like us! It's such a cute place that is also in the process of expanding the building and it will become twice the size it is now. We definitely plan on going back and bringing some friends with us for sure. I highly recommend this wonderful place !

Stopped by State 38 the other night for a pre-dinner drink. Though I've been here a few times, it was only after checking in on Yelp that I realized I had not yet written a review. Shame on me, because of all the local-ish distilleries, this is hands-down our favorite. Tucked into a corner of industrial buildings, it might not look like much from the outside, but inside liquid pleasures await. Numerous seating options (bar, high top table, and comfy couches) are available, and a big indoor window allows you to see where the magic actually happens. So take your pick, along with a free taster of any one of their spirits. Speaking of spirits, you honestly cannot go wrong with any selection. I am not a huge tequila fan, but even I can appreciate their Hacedor Agave line.. the Blanco is super smooth and their Anejo does indeed drink like a whiskey, though there's still a little more bite than my tastes prefer. Their Whiskey line (my favorite) covers the gamut, with my personal preferences being the Bourbon and Rye. Finally, their Damn Smooth line rounds out the options with the Gin being one of the best gins around. Do yourself a favor and get a sampler so you can try a variety. Most are so good, the best way is to drink them neat, but there is also a great variety of cocktails to choose from, with house and seasonal menus available. On our most recent trip, the Winter options were out. We had only intended on getting one drink, but they were so tasty that we got two and extended our happy hour. I had the Remember the Sage (very unique and my favorite of the night) and the Bourbon Apple, which thankfully wasn't as sweet as I feared. My partner had the Winter's Kiss (xmas in your mouth) and a classic G&T. Owner Don was manning the bar and is always super friendly. I've also had the opportunity to meet the other owners and head distiller, and it's clear that they love what they do and are happy to share their passion. Go now and support this fine local business. You won't be disappointed.

What a delightful distillery! I have been to several in Colorado and these guys are AMAZING! We really enjoyed tasting all of their different spirits. I think the general consensus is smoooooooth. We tried quite a few and everything was yummy' what I loved is that unlike any like many other sprits, whatever flavor profile is described, you can't taste it. Here, you taste it! The vanilla, butterscotch, peach... its there! There is so much craft that goes into every drink and spirit. We took home a couple bottles! I can't wait to try some drinks at home and then come back and try some of their cocktails. Also, as a side note, GREAT, fun and friendly staff!

Don and Meghan were an absolute treasure! Don is the owner and Meghan was bar tending. We came in to visit and do some sampling after seeing some of their work fro Morris and Mae! The place has a warm and welcoming feeling to it. We found out they are expanding the place into the building next door as well and will allow for even more customers to come and enjoy. A huge crowd of people came in on this lovely Friday evening and it was filled with a lot of regulars but also some people trying stuff out for the first time. We tried some delicious samples and washed it all down with a yummy margarita! I highly recommend this place to everyone and I look forward to coming back real soon right here in Golden, Colorado ! Ps there was plenty of places to park and it's near lots of eateries and work places near by and we noticed many people walked here !

Fun Fact: State 38 Distilling in Golden also offers a Damn Smooth line of spirits. When I won a bottle of Damn Smooth Spirits, I couldn't wait to pick it up. With summer coming, I felt I needed a fruity option for mixing and sipping, so I chose the peach vodka. And while I was there, I enjoyed a mule made with that very same peach vodka. It definitely tastes of summer! With a relaxed tasting room, variety of seating options, and warm, friendly service, State 38 remains one of my favorite Colorado distilleries.

I grabbed a girlfriend and we went to a Yelp elite event that was being hosted there. Met Don and his wife Linda who are partners in the ownership of this place. They were very nice and friendly. They had a decent spread of food, a tasting room and they also offered a little tour of the distillery. They do make their own agave tequila, vodka, gin, absinthe and whiskey. I had some taste, and I thought some things of course were better than others. I do have to let you know that I had my first tequila old-fashion ever, I was pleasantly surprised. I WOULD go back. Yelp Elite Event was another success. Thank you Linda and Don for making the night so much fun.

My fiancé and I enjoyed some Old fashions, rye on the rocks, and the peat smoked whiskey. We've been a couple of times and the staff is always wonderful. Today we got hang with Noel as our bartender. Very kind and made conversation feel like your hanging out with someone you have known for a bit. We are using the damn good vodka and gin for our wedding exclusively and Sean the founder, took great care of us in that respect! Overall a fabulous little local to Golden distillery! Check it out!

Wonderful visit! Great education. Great service. Great drinks. This will be a great venue to bring friends. Not to sure what else to add but I will return.

This place is special! Top of my Denver list and I'll be taking visitors there from now on. Not only is the staff super cool, but the spirits are all amazing. They've got tequila, vodka, gin, whiskeys, and even absinthe. Naturally the tequilas were my favorite but even the vodka could be sipped. The passion that goes into each batch is very obvious. The tasting room is intimate and just the right size... love the western saloon theme. For me personally, it was nice to be able to partake in all the tastings. Normally when I go to breweries with friends I can't partake because it's not gluten free. I felt very safe at State 38 and everyone was very well educated on being GF. Their location is a bit off the beaten path (ie not downtown golden) but so worth it!

I went searching for a non chain bar or restaurant to support and was shocked to see that Lakewood CO of all places had a local distillery and just had to try it. It honestly exceeded my expectations as I originally planned on coming in for one drink but left after trying 3 because it was so good. My first drink was the Coffee, God and Cigarettes. This drink offered a well-balanced blend of bitter and sweet notes, both light and flavorful. The tobacco finish is present but not overpowering, making for a very enjoyable overall experience. The 2nd drink I got was the old fashioned.... Which was made with both whiskey and rum in it which left me a bit nervous to actually order it. But don't let the rum fool you, this is a classic-tasting delicious Old Fashioned. Ironically, the rum has more traditional whiskey character than their white whiskey (which tastes like scotch). If you like Old Fashioneds, you'll find this version delicious. I finished with the Serrano Cucumber Gimlet. It features a fresh cucumber essence and a well-balanced, subtle heat. A unique and excellent twist on the classic. All the in house spirits were great, Cameron the bartender on shift was able to answer any and all questions I had, the drinks were great and the atmosphere was wonderful. I'd definitely recommend giving this Lakewood distillery a shot

This space creates a magical moment for a couple's date night, girls' gathering, happy hour with your coworkers and so on. It was an occasion for me and my adult daughter just yesterday. She and I get together as a family which we traditionally do almost monthly to celebrate "us" and we were glad that we chose the Family Jones Spirit House for the very occasion as there was no element that disappointed us. Ambiance: The sleekness that is common when described as "chic", the high-end design is well-incorporated into the space throughout. Despite its way of being high-end contemporary however, the place emits a very inviting cozy feel. The whole place is enhanced by the soft lighting. Overall, the whole place has an elegant image of "cocktail lounge". Drinks and bites (on the menu): They have great ideas to concoct unique cocktails using their current lineup of whiskey/bourbon/gin/vodka. We could easily go for something typical such as wine but we were like "Why would we want to do that at a place like Family Jones?" We started out with one of the Espresso Martinis (Cinnamon Bun) and Early Grey Negroni. After a good few to several bites (House Salad which was a good portion; simple and yet refreshing, Spicy Herb & Cheese; its spiciness was well-manageable, Antipasto Plate was also generously portioned with healthy choices), we concluded our night by another drink, which was Lohi Rising (absolutely an excellently made cocktail out of the whole menu). Most of the items we ordered were discounted by $1 or $2 due to the fact that we were able to order in before the Happy Hour end time of 6pm. Even with the regular pricings, however, the menu items are reasonably priced. I forgot our waitstaff's name but she was able to assist us with great suggestions when we asked her which ones to order especially the drinks. She was the only person who was mostly walking around the whole dining area (the other staff was mainly in charge of the bar but he once came out and asked me if I needed anything before my daughter's arrival.) Not to mention: the hardworking kitchen staff who prepared our dishes should not be forgotten for all the amazing chef skills. Denver's LoHi neighborhood hosts a good number of contemporary restaurants. Other big names might overshadow this cocktail lounge/restaurant but despite the overwhelming elements, Family Jones Spirits House's position to quietly serve as a humble restaurant is worth a mention. So if you are looking for a special place for a special occasion, go here. You will be pleasantly surprised with what they offer you.

The Salt & Vinegar Martini was also memorable and came with a pickled potato that made it even more fun. The Alpine Glow was lighter and refreshing with hibiscus and citrus. We also ordered some food to go with the drinks. The grilled cheese with soup and the pretzel bites were perfect for a cold winter day and paired nicely with the cocktails.
