Espresso Patronus and Deathly Hallows cocktails

Had a fantastic time at Spirits Wine Provisions' speakeasy - The Stockroom. For December, they had a special Hogwart's Holiday pop-up. Having read all the Harry Potter books, the fine details put into this event were greatly appreciated. You are given an envelope with a letter from Headmistress McGonagall outlining the rules. The sorting hat hangs to sort you into each of the houses as Dobby peeks out at you from around the corner. Be sure to take it all in as there is a time limit of an hour so they can get through their wait list. There is a long list of creative wizarding world cocktails. The Espresso Patronum was rich and coffee forward and The Goblet of Fire (an Absinthe drip for up to 6 people) was quality. I am looking forward to going back when it's their regular speakeasy and for another pop-up.

I went to SWP to check out the Harry Potter pop up bar. It was such a fabulous time! We had a pretty large group of nine people so we did have to split up our party between a six person table and a four person table. Our wait time was about 3 hours, which I expected, so I made a reservation to go to Teocalli for our group until we were ready to check into the bar. I would recommend wearing a warm coat because sometimes it takes a while for the person to come get you from outside. The drink menu was very on theme and had a lot of fun options it was very clear that there was a lot of attention to detail when it came to the menu. I tried the spicy cider and really loved it but loved all the cute details put into every drink. I even loved that the rules are written on a letter in a sealed envelope. The service was also really good.

Well stocked wine and liquor store. But we went for a cocktail in the "speakeasy" in back and let me tell you it was something else. The guys know spirits and what tastes good. They have a menu of cocktails with traditional drinks and then another with their take on what might be even better. If you are feeling frisky or experimental and trusting -- just tell them what you like, and be prepared for several questions and then the creative Genuses start to collaborate and voila a delicious concoction appears before you. The ambience is great. The noise level is low so it is easy to talk to your companions. It is in old town so parking is always challenging. Worth it.

A warm welcome from the owner. A very well curated selection of wines. Tracie bought a cool 1000-piece puzzle: wines of Italy.

They also have a well thought out speakeasy in the back with great cocktails.

Their expansive patio has great views of North Table Mountain to the west and a sports complex to the south. Their large interior was packed on a late Wednesday afternoon. The bartenders were very pleasant, and they came out to the patio to give our 15 week old husky mix puppy pets and treats. The house made beers were top notch. There was a food truck serving Turkish doner kebabs that were really delicious. We'll happily return to this excellent establishment the next time the winds blow us to Golden.

We ended up finding two seats adjacent to a larger group. Aside from a lack of seating, the other drawback is no TVs in the main room, so if you're wanting to watch anything (such as the NFL playoffs on this day) you're out of luck. On the bright side, they had a great beer selection...five different malts, so we started with a flight. In order of preference: * Maple bourbon pecan brown * Tmave pivo dark Czech lager * Up and about mocha stout * Black planet imperial porter * Rambler American amber One note, if what we got was actually the Rambler, it's the worst amber we've ever had. It tasted more like an IPA, which we both hate, than an Amber. Didn't care for this one at all. After finishing the flight, we each had a Czech lager followed by the pecan brown. The more of the lager I drank, the less I liked it. It was fine, but not sure I'd get it again. All in all, cool place with good beer. Especially on a nice day where you can sit outside.

So, some friends and I headed over to Primo Vino on a Saturday thinking it was a wine bar. It sounds like it, right? Whoops. We found ourselves in a very cute, botique wine shop. But, they had a Free Wine Tasting that day, so cheers! We got to try some great wines from a winery in California, and our wine steward answered all our silly questions without making us feel silly. He even filled us in on how one would go about pouring/serving from one of those gigantic wine bottles that you see on display. You can actually buy those giant wine bottles here! After our tasting and a few suggestions from the staff, we picked some fantastic wines to take home. I didn't realize there was a bargain bin of wine until I had already paid, so I will definitiely have to come back and check that out. Primo Vino sends info to their mailing list about what wines they will pour for the wine tastings Friday & Saturday (3:30 to 6:30pm), so definitely sign up for that.

Prices are fair but don't go here expecting to find a better deal than the big distributors. They do wine tastings most weekends, which is a great way to get familiar with different types of wines from different regions. I have yet to get a bad recommendation here, hope they stay around awhile.
