Really cool spot - stopped here for the first time on our way to an engagement party. The guy recommended a good wine in our budget (seemed to know what he was talking about and appreciated his passion). I also asked if they sold cards and he had a blank card behind the counter for us - 5/5 service. Before writing any review of a company, I do my best to go in many times as my perception of one experience may not truly encompass the true business demeanor. Needless to say, I was utterly shocked when I came to write a 5-star review of this place and noticed the only review was for one-star. When I clicked on the person's profile, and saw all the poor reviews given and he only came to Denver Wine Merchant once, I was in less dismay. I had been coming here since before the new owners took over as I started dropping my dog off at U Lucky Dog Daycare (right across the street). The knowledge of the new owners - Steven and Sally - is amazing as I can ask any certain price and type of wine and he will give a great suggestion. Which later I learned Steven is a sommelier, meaning he definitely has more in-depth knowledge than I could even understand as I am someone whom just enjoys a glass of wine every now and then. Not only has the knowledge of the owners improved, but the décor has become more inviting - less of warehouse feel - and the beer selection has greatly improved. I have a friend who is a beer snob and I would not know the first thing of selecting a beer for him; however, I was able to create a 4-pack for my friend's birthday that he said he was "blown away" by the choices. My friend usually drives all over the state for different beers and to trade with people, but said that would check this place out because not only was he impressed by the beers I selected for him, but what I chose for myself as well. I used to live downtown and it was less than a 5-minute drive to get to Denver Wine Merchant. Even though, I moved to Lakewood and there are many liquor stores nearby, I still make the drive to here as I know I will get a plethora of suggestions for wine and a selection of great beers that is tough to find anywhere else. I'd definitely give this place a chance if you are a beer or wine fan of any kind. read more

This store has seen renewed vitality, having been recently purchased and renovated. From Bogey's to the Wine Merchant, this store is a cool spot outside of downtown Denver. It is compact enough for perusing without overwhelming you with the volume of their stock, but large enough to feel comfortable taking your time choosing what you'll pick up. They have a wonderful selection of drinks to choose from, with a focus on wines as the name implies; having a dedicated wall for the variety they carry. The place is a pleasant and clean destination and a little outside the norm of other (liquor) stores in the area. I've appreciated the friendly staff, the environment, and the new owners and how they are transforming the store! Great location. read more

If you're looking for a friendly greeting and an offer of assistance, go somewhere else. The surly guy behind the counter could barely muster a "hi," and didn't say a word the whole time I was in the shop. I guess he wanted to be somewhere else. Denver Wine Merchant sets the standard for the wine shopping experience. They have an amazing selection of everything you hoped to find and so many you didn't even know about. The owners are always there and they're experienced sommeliers, which is nice to know you'll get an expert's opinion. It's a cool, comfy, and beautiful display. As a recent Denver transplant who has been searching for a good spot, I could not be happier with this store. Steven and Sally are both exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. They have an incredible selection of wines from all over the world. I see the review below mine says Steven is a Som, which makes perfect sense given how much he knew about every wine on the wall.
