This place is great because dogs are welcome in the store and get treats, you can build your own six pack, and they have this beer from Estonia for only $7 that I have never seen anywhere except at the brewery in Estonia where it's brewed (and costs about the same amount). No need to be rude They definitely put a damper on my birthday. Just wanted to purchase a bottle as a b-day present to myself since it was a limited bottle and they only had one left I message them to see if they were open with no response after 24hours I called several times before a rude woman answered and said she would not hold it for me even tho I was on my way. When I got there the woman who claimed to be the manager would accept my temp ID since I was waiting on a new one. I had three different forms of identification. I just don't understand why they were so rude about it. read more

I love taking visitors and locals to all my favorite spots that make Berkeley not only a charming neighborhood but one with great taste, unique and delicious finds, and friendly staff that provide a personal and neighborly feel. Small Batch Liquor has always been one of these spots. From the handpicked craft beer selection, to the large and unique varietals of wines, to the easy to navigate $10 wine section, to the regular and diverse free tastings. It's even dog and stroller friendly with a ramp and dog employees to boot. The staff has always been gracious and happy to help with suggestions. Until recently, when a girlfriend was visiting from LA. LA, being in a wine state with a slew of boutique wine shops sprinkled in every neighborhood, makes the competition stiff for my local shop. However, I knew Small Batch would be a great store to meet this challenge. As I usually do, we went to Small Batch on Friday afternoon to get some nice wines for the weekend. The employee that helped us has longer dark hair, rosy cheeks, and wore his baseball cap backwards. I was immediately embarrassed by his attitude. He acted as if he was doing us a favor when we asked him for a recommendation. He barely looked away from the computer before getting up from behind the counter to show us a wine similar to my friend's favorite Pinot Noir. He said the wine wasn't exactly the same but close to it. We took the wine home and opened it the next day. The wine was carbonated and tasted extremely sour. We were certain it was bad. We called the store and told them. On the phone they were nice and told us to bring the bottle in and they'd replace it. When we went back to the store the same employee was there in his same stance staring at the computer and another employee was there as well. We explained what happened and they told us the wine was fermented and supposed to taste like a sour beer. Firstly, all wine is fermented and secondly, why would you recommend such a unique taste when we asked for something specific. I was dismayed when the employee who had helped us on Friday emotionally threw his hands in the air and said "I'm not dealing with this" as he stomped to the back of the store, out of sight. The other employee continued to talk to us about palates and how everyone's is different and there was nothing he could do besides give us the same bottle of wine but just a closed bottle since he was sure the wine wasn't bad. He eventually realized how unacceptable we believed this was and left the store unattended to go to the back and call his manager. He reappeared shortly (good thing there were several other customers in the store) and was able to let us get different wines. The original person who helped us surfaced and said angrily "never again" from the back before we left the shop. I don't usually write reviews but I was horrified by the employee's lack of professionalism and don't know how I can continue recommending the business and frequenting it with my loyalty and patronage. I wouldn't want anyone in the neighborhood or who I know to be treated this way. Shame on him! read more

As Yelp puts it: Meh. I've experienced better. The girlfriend and I were biking around the neighborhood and saw a "wine and beer sampling" sign. As a fan of all things beer and all things free, I figured we should stop in and check it out. Furthermore, I had a good buddy from out of town that I was hoping to share some local suds with. The space is beautiful, and I like how they've laid the store out given the limited amount of riin available. I loved the floor-to-ceiling wine racks and the curated selection of liquors in the back of the store. The beer selection looked great - about a 30/70 split between six-packs and bombers, respectively. They've definitely done fantastic job seeking out hard-to-find beers! The couple that I looked at were Prairie's Bomb! and some of Epic Brewing's limited release series. Unfortunately, my poor experience was due, as it so often is, to poor service. Many other reviewers mentioned how friendly the shop staffers were, and I hope that my encounter was in the minority. It seemed there were two guys staffing the shop, but there was no one behind the register and I did not see either interacting with any customers. They spent most of the time I was in the shop talking to one another. While they did provide the promised samples, they seemed annoyed by my inquiries on the beer they were serving. I love the local Tennyson businesses and will likely stop by to try Small Batch Liquors again - I will update my review when I do. However, with more expansive and customer-oriented options less than a mile away, I certainly won't be hurrying. read more

Small Batch Liquors is a unique mix of wide selection within a small environment. I stopped in to check out the beer selection as was pleasantly surprised with the array of beers they had. The bomber section included a large Colorado section but had a good selection from Utah and California as well. I know it's hard to fathom, but there is good beer in other states too. I was happy to see a good selection from TRiNiTY and The Bruery. This is a good spot to grab craft beer at a reasonable price. Worth checking out if you're in the area. This is a great place to buy hard to find wines, liquors, and beers. Saturday, I walked in looking for good imported and elusive sweet vermouth, but I walked out this weekend with another small batch bourbon for my collection. Apparently, good vermouth is hard to find these days, but they promised to bring some in for me (hopefully Dolin). Obviously, small batch spirits, wines, and beers are not inexpensive, but they have a great wall of wines for $9.99 or less. So I walked out with a bottle of wine too. This place is one-of-a-kind. Not only is the shop cute and well stocked, but the staff is impressively passionate about their craft beer, wine and liquor. We went in looking for a specific brand in mind and the staff knew right away what it was and when it was coming in. I loved that they not only carried local brands but also some small batches we had never heard of. You can buy amounts from single cans all the way to 6-packs. Found this store by chance while wondering the area during the Viva Streets festival (which I also happened upon by chance). While it seems to be mostly wines at first, I advise you to turn left upon entering and wander into their craft liquor selection. Lots of local offerings! After that, head to the back of the store for shelves of sour ales. This is my favorite beer variety so I was even more excited to hear there was another case in the back room. It was my last night it town so I didn't end up purchasing anything, but this will be a good resource on my next visit. read more

Since moving back to Colorado from North Carolina, I've been searching for a liquor store that recaptured the awesomeness of living in a place not yet overrun with so many microbrews that God forbid they carry anything from out of state that might be interesting, lest someone expand their view of other states' and countries' abilities to make some fine goddamn alcoholic beverages. Enter Small Batch Liquors, my savior and bastion of amazing, high quality everything because, well, that's the way it should be. Everything here is top shelf, or that locked cabinet that is beside the top shelf. I haven't gotten into the wine selection yet but am impressed as all hell with the beer and liquor. There are things here I've never seen, or have not seen in years. Small batch Belgian farmhouse ales (get the Fantome before it's gone!), growlers of obscure brews I can only imagine are done once in a blue moon, flavored bitters lined up like an alchemist's collection of remedies, and gorgeous bottles of liquor in all shapes and sizes, with achingly awesome label designs. Your corner liquor store it ain't, and that suits me just fine. read more

Love Small Batch Liquors! This is my neighborhood liquor store, but it's so much more. Where to start? Joe and Tami are great host/hostess/owners and really know their beer, wines and liquor. (They're great neighbors, too!) The quality and quantity of microbrews is awesomely overwhelming. If you know what you like but aren't sure what to buy or try, ask! Joe, Tami or the other staff will make recommendations. I've taken Joe up on several recommendations for Red wines and beer and everything I've tried has been spot-on. The liquor selection is a little small, but the quality is great. No big name brands here folks - so if you're looking for Grey Goose, Ketel One, Chopin, Tito's, Absolut - go elsewhere; this is Small Batch, see? That said, the Breckinridge Vodka is a recent find and is on par with those previously mentioned. Friend "Small Batch Liquors" on Facebook to get updates about sales or tastings. I LOVE Small Batch Liquors! For a small shop they have an amazing selection. I am a bit of a wine snob but their staff go above and beyond to help me find wines that suit my taste (and my budget). They are really interested in helping the customer find something new that they will love! I know nothing about beer and went in there once to try to find a gift for my boyfriend and the staff (as always) was so helpful! Everything about Small Batch Liquors makes me happy. From the wide array of Colorado liquors to the great selection of craft beers from San Diego and everything in between, there's bound to be something new I want to take home. The shop is on the smaller size, but they use their space wisely, and manage to pack pretty much anything you could be looking for. If for some reason the don't have something specific, Joe is really knowledgeable and willing to help, so don't hesitate to ask him questions. He talked to my brother and I about different varieties of whiskey, the aging process, and even suggested some whiskeys he didn't carry. To top it off, he pointed us in the right direction for breweries/beer bars that we had to check out in Boulder on our visit. Really, a pleasure to talk to. I was super excited to check out Small Batch Liquors as it seemed like a cool place that would have great service. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I came on a Monday evening looking to purchase one or two bottles before heading home and was "greeted" by a disrespectful person at the desk near the door. Not only did he not say Hi or welcome me when I walked in, but every question I asked felt like I was pulling teeth and was answered with one word responses. I asked if he had any wine bottles at 15 or under and he pointed to a random wall and said those are under 10. I looked at him and he said with a sarcastic tone, "What do you want a recommendation or something?" I've been to dozens of wineries and liquor stores across the country, without a doubt this was some of the worst service I've ever received. Typically at a place like Small Batch, employees are friendly and knowledgeable and that environment is conducive to making sales. I don't know if it was because it was the end of a slow day and he wanted to go home or I wasn't the "typical" type of customer he's used to, but it just felt like he wanted to do anything but serve me as a customer and that's very disappointing. Unfortunately, I can't see any fathomable reason why I would return or recommend Small Batch. I walked almost a mile to go Highland Wines and Liquors shortly after and was treated with the dignity and welcome that I expected from Small Batch. read more

I have a bottle exchange with a friend on the east coast. We try to send each other bottles that aren't distributed to each others states and a friend recommended small batch to me as a place with lots of local CO stuff. I explained my situation with the guy there and he proceeded to guide me around the store pointing out beers that he knew didn't distribute on the east coast and even went so far as to know some specific bottles from Crooked Stave and Casey that didn't get widely distributed. Last year when I did this I ran around RiNo grabbing bottles at each brewery so this was much, much more efficient. Good supply and knowledgeable employees! read more
