This was the second stop on my husband's Christmas gift day - after an am playing pickleball. He's a whiskey guy so seemed a good way to top things off. Overall, thumbs up. The spot is small but has a cozy vibe. There were only 3 other patrons within (all were watching football) so my husband, infant and I snagged the couch in the corner which was perfect for us. We started with sampling their whiskey/rye flight. We enjoyed the rye and wound up buying a bottle. At about $65 it wasn't cheap but not super outrageous compared to other local distilleries. In addition we each had a cocktail - I honestly can't recall what I had but it had a fun hibiscus rum float and was yummy. My husband had the old fashioned and it was a solid one. I don't normally leave 1 stars however I went out of my way to check this place out. I walked in and felt I was interrupting the employees time watching football. We sat at the bar and the first thing he said was I can't a few cocktails. I asked if he had gin, he said yes but can't do any of the gin drinks. I asked if he could do any gin drinks and he said "I have club soda" we needed up leaving without anything. Poor service, pretty bland environment and ambiance. If a place like this wants to succeed there needs to be an experience, no details about anything they do there, tastings etc. won't be back. read more

We just stopped by at 3:00pm on a Sunday. Hours posted are open from 12-6pm. They were not ! There was a purse and keys on the counter, I called them asking why they weren't open... next thing we see is that the purse and keys were gone. Obviously an employee didn't want to open. Wr usually love this place, but tonight we came in with 40 minutes until close and were turned away. Very confused, why can you not make 2 drinks in the 40 minutes you were open? Seems lazy. We came here after buying a groupon deal for flights and a cocktail for four people and I was SO impressed! All of the liquor tasted amazing on their own and didn't need a chaser. Went down so smoothly. Such a unique taste and the bar manager came to talk to us to share more details on the drinks we were tasting. Low key distillery but such a great time! Highly recommend to stop by this place and recommend sitting on their couches that look out to scenery. Im now a fan of their liquor and would definitely buy it for shooters or even for mixed drinks. My husband and I have been regulars at whistling hare for years. We would come in once or twice a week. We would meet up with all the other regulars. At any given time there would be at least one regular there. It was basically like Cheers. This place was special. This place was special, not because of the drinks or alcohol, but because of the people. And in particular, Makeda the bartender made this place what it was. She made it a fun, happy, amazing environment to meet up with friends and unwind for the week. We didn't go there for the drinks, we went there to see her. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Makeda's talent was appreciated and she decided to move on. Saturday was her last day. Which means Saturday was our last day as well. Most of the regulars feel this way. It's a sad day. This place changed our lives. We met some of the most amazing people there. My husband proposed to me there. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart. The people will remain my friends, but whistling hare is now just a memory. I do not believe this business has really ever treated its employees with the respect they deserve. The bartender before Makeda was also forced out after being treated unfairly. It's very clear the owner doesn't really know how to run a business like this. The only times we ever saw him there he never made any effort to be friendly. He was there, at the table next to us, the night my husband proposed and he didn't even bother to acknowledge our presence. Not that we needed the acknowledgment, but if someone proposed at a business I owned, I'd buy them a drink or at least offer congratulations. While we will no longer be going to whistling hare, we will follow Makeda wherever she decides to go. And wherever that is, that place has no idea what a special person they've added to their family. This was such a great experience. I came here with my boyfriend and his sister off of both yelp reviews and a groupon and I can say if you go you won't be disappointed. There are people who call themselves mixologist this guy was a mixologist. Probably the best drink I've ever had. We each had a flight of the different liquors and then each had a drink plus one extra to share. Honestly we sat there for two hours drinking and talking to the bartender. He knew so much about the liquors and drinks it made for an enjoyable tasting experience. The only two bad parts were that I couldn't take home any of the infused liquors which is sad because their infused liquors are amazing and also that they don't ship out of state. Which honestly isn't even a negative. Came here last night for some drinks. We got to bring our doggy (yes, inside) and they had a water bowl for him and they gave him some peanut butter treats. Smaller place and was super cozy. My wife bought a Groupon for this place because she had driven past it and thought it would be fun to check out. We were both extremely disappointed. The 'flight' of liquor was a stingy pour by Scrooge. It tasted awful to boot. The "appetizers" were a meager joke. I invited two other couples and was embarrassed to have had them along. Everyone left hungry even though we doubled 3 appetizer plates! The service was agonizingly slow. The so-called bartender/waiter was proud that they allow dogs to hang around but I am allergic to them and I didn't appreciate having to step over Fido to ask for the check. We paid $95.00 for the visit. That was after deducting the Groupon and we only tried a couple of their skimpy mixed drinks plus a couple of sodas! I would rather have pitched my money out the window. The wife and I found this place for an early happy hour and it did not disappoint. This little hidden gem was tucked away off of Wadsworth. I appreciated the fact that they aren't just a whisky bar and offered clear rum which is my go to cocktail. They offer free samples without hesitation and the staff was friendly, talkative, and educated in the fine art of hand crafted cocktails which made for a pleasant experience. They know their product and are eager to share their thoughts. The booze has a unique flavor. I collect so I purchased a bottle to add to my collection. Not overpriced. My only suggestion is to hire a girl to host and chat up the customers. As my wife would say, "I love this place, but it could use a bit of a woman's touch". Lol.. She was right. The bathrooms need some help. A small bottle of Dawn for hand soap? Really guys? But overall a great little visit, not big or commercial but quiet and worth your time to check it out. I am updating my review because my grievance is more with Groupon than Whistling Hare (although wish they could've notified us before our scheduled time). I do give Sandy, the manager, props for promptly returning my phone call and clearing up that Groupon had NOT tried to contact him about my reservation/refund. Still have to give 3 stars due to being unable to use my Groupon and try the distillery. I am unable to review this place on Groupon so I'm doing it here. I had a reservation on Friday 2/18 at 3pm for myself and some out of town family members on their last day here. We planned out our day accordingly and showed up at 3pm to redeem the voucher. We were told by the staff member they were unable to serve us at this time due to an unexpected/late order that was taking up their lobby (see picture). They did offer us to come back later in the day if we wanted, but we already had other plans right after so we were unable to come back. Not sure if with the Groupon reservation they receive my contact information, but if they did there was no attempt to contact me before my scheduled time to reschedule or alert of us the unexpected order. I reached out to Groupon expecting a simple refund for my unused voucher but they are now telling me they are unable to reach Whistling Hare to discuss the manner therefore they can't refund me. So, if you purchase a Groupon from this place you may want to call ahead to confirm your reservation is still good if you can't easily reschedule. read more

This place is right up the street and I love whiskey so my wife and I drive over on Friday night. Here were the issues I had: 1. Asked for a glass of bourbon and was told they had no bourbon for drinks but I was welcome to buy a bottle. Still scratching my head over that. Stopped in Whistling Hare Distillery because I was in the area for a haunted attraction - frightmare compound. Attraction was really great, and then you can either walk or drive directly across the street to the Distillery. Inside of Distillery is very different than most other Distillery's I've been to in the past, and I mean that in a good way. The bar area is on the smaller side but warm and inviting. In addition to bar stools, they have some couches and a few tables scattered around. The decor is simple and cool, love that they have all the bottles out on display. Now for the drinks... the blue corn vodka is out of this world. If you enjoy vodka, this will blow your mind. Try a sample straight and then order a cocktail. I tried the vodka cocktail (can't recall name) with jalapeños, ginger beer, and honey. One if the best craft cocktails I've had in awhile. The honey balances out the spicy kick of the jalapeño so well and it's just delicious. The bartenders are super friendly and informative if you have any questions about the various spirits. Bought a deal online for a tasting and a cocktail. It was kinda disappointing because there was not any education about the liquors. I know Mad Rabbit distillery really educates people on their liquors and are quite passionate. So by the time you leave that distillery you buy from them because of the quality and the experience. Not so much here. This place had only one guy at the bar, I felt bad for him. He was a bit overwhelmed and seemed disgruntled. I don't blame him, the orders just kept growing for him. I almost wanted to leave cause I felt bad for the guy. But we took an Uber here so we just decided to stay. I seen some people leave cause there was no room to sit down. Keep in mind, it's a smaller business that can accommodate maybe 12-15 people. It's super small so maybe go on a weekday. And it sounds like they have only one person here everyday. Not too sure I would be back. My drink was not that good either, I guess I wanted a quality drink. It just tasted really tart, I was not even buzzed. Hope they give this guy some help at the bar, he seemed so overwhelmed. So I hope they read this and change a few things so their business can grow successfully. read more

I came here for a class held by Inks & Drinks. We came an hour early to have a drink and catch up with each other. I was a little early and I was the only one there. The owner is super friendly and told me all about the liquor and drinks and made friendly conversation until my ladies arrived. I'm typically a beer or wine kinda girl, but these cocktails are INCREDIBLE!!! I completely forgot to buy a bottle of vodka but it might actually be the best Vodka that I've ever had, no kidding. The drinks were made with mostly organic I ingredients and were so refreshing and delicious! Currently they are bottling vodka and rum, but he said they are aging some whiskey right now. I'm excited to see what delicious whiskey concoctions he comes up with. Hopefully makes some type of take on an old fashioned. This spot is in a strip mall setting, next to Westminster Brewing. Even though the outside isn't outstanding, they inside is beautiful. Cool barn vibe with a beautiful barn door, saddle-esque bar stools and beautiful murals painted by the Inks & Drinks ladies! Our class was held up in a loft that was also cool. It would be a sweet spot to rent out for an event, but I'm not sure if they do that.
