I'm giving 2 stars because I'm optimistic at some point in the far future they will be almost mediocre.

Caveat Emptor: Spectrum Internet Service Provider This company has been a disappointment to me since it took over from Brighthouse. With Brighthouse, I always had a download speed of at least 100 mbps. It was still pretty good until one of their customer service representatives convinced me to change from my original grandfathered plan with Brighthouse to the Spectrum plan. I was assured repeatedly during that telephone call that I'd keep my same speed. The immediate result was that my speed dropped drastically. When I contacted them, I was advised that Spectrum did not provide 100 mbps residential service. I talked to supervisors and managers (as they identified themselves) and the attitude was "no one cared." No apologies were offered for the lie I was told to get me to switch to the Spectrum plan. They refused to put me back on the old plan. The end of last year (2017), Spectrum made a big hoopla about changing their speed to 100 mbps; therefore, so I thought perhaps that would resolve the issue. And last week Spectrum was in my neighborhood working on their "box," which happens to be in my back yard. I thought maybe, just maybe, my speed will increase to what was promised, to what I pay for. My download speed is now 55.3 mbps. Granted, the Spectrum's Speed Test website states, "For best results, connect your laptop or computer directly to your home's router via an Ethernet cable, not via WiFi." I admit I did not do that. I never did that with the previous carrier and I doubt many customers use their laptos by connecting it directly to the router. That requirement does not reflect normal use, so it should not be a requirement, anyway But even so, a speed of 55.3 mbps is absurdly below the 100 mbps that I am paying for. If "0" was an option I would have provided it. We moved from Chicago, we were in love with Xfinity. I consider Spectrum to be the absolute worst with service and customer service. I wanted to dump Spectrum TV and keep the internet (have no other decent option, they are the "Best of the Worst") I was kept on the phone for exactly one hour and transferred x3 within the hour. My first wait was 49min, two transfers and finally it is done. Spectrum does not pro-rate, you pay the month no matter what, however, the service must be killed immediately or you can call back on the last day and wait for another hour (No Thank You) Xfinity please hurry up and get to my area!!! read more

I'm 55 years old and this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The incompetency runs from the top (CEO) down to each employee. I was so frustrated with this company that I wrote a letter to the CEO in St. Louis to disconnect my service because I got sick of jumping through their hoops. I mailed it certified and confirmed it was delivered. I thought everything was taken care of. WRONG!!!! Yesterday, a worker put a notice on my door that my service would be shut off if I didn't pay the bill. WHAT!?! Why wasn't it shut off WEEKS ago when the letter was delivered? This means that the CEO or one of his assistants FAILED to carry out my request. If the CEO's office is incompetent and useless, what hope does anyone have in dealing with this HORRIBLE company? Spectrum is horrible. My credit card got compromised and I forgot to change my payment for my spectrum bill. When I finally realized that I needed to change it I called and they would not let me change it. They informed me that I have to get cash or a cashiers check every month for the next six month and personally drop it off to the office which is pretty far from my house. Not only that but with Covid 19 I don't like going to public places if I can help it. I canceled my service with them on the 8th of the month but they told me I will still be charged for the full month and they will not pro rate it. Worst service ever, horribly overpriced I now have the same cable and faster internet for half the price I was paying. read more

Didn't have issues when I had the service, but when I went to cancel, whoo-wee. Borderline criminal activity. Called to cancel and while they acknowledged the request I continued to be billed. Was over summer and I vacationed a lot and when the second erroneous charge showed up I called to get it worked out. Was told I'd get a refund for the two months plus the prorated portion of the month I cancelled but after a month no CC refund and no check. Called again and now the story was that I was getting only $19 back, which is about 9 days of internet service, not the $157 that they owed me for two and half months. Said if I had called sooner about the erroneous charging they could have provided a larger refund. Put this matter in the hands of the CC company via a charge dispute along with lodging a complaint about Spectrum with the Florida Attorney General. read more

Absolutely horrible. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Router stopped working all the sudden, face me the run around and told me they cud have a tech out in 2 days... I can literally have a new service tomorrow. So I just pd my bill 3 days ago, nope ! Can't get any of my money back. The representative was more intent on selling me more services than one I'm already unsatisfied with. worst service ever. feel like I have been scammed. called to change my service on next billing cycle to seasonal. they put a date 4 days after and said they don't prorate and that I told them that date. Talked to 4 different people and got 4 different stories. Just cancelled service as they refuse to adjust. Could have kept a seasonal and longer term customer but they decided losing a customer was what they wanted. We DO have many choices for internet-don't use Spectrum. Service never works after 2 years, have switched and upgraded to 200 Gbps yet the 40 Gbps service work better and stood connected. I also found out I was not bought out from my old contract a year later. since no one was available during covid! Now I owe for 2 separate cable companies and found out over a year later. I NEED A LAWYER! SPECTRUM I pay for internet and instead spend my time on hold trying to get a tech to fix what I've paid for yet not receive. Save your time and Money find another provider. You can even stream off your phone faster than this internet. And do not jump to their phone plan. Our internet connection has been horrible for several years and naturally we have had so many different technicians out to try and resolve the problem. What happens when you have a different tech come every time is that they undo what the previous tech did and that is so frustrating and nothing ever helps. So my husband escalated the issue through the ranks which was not an easy process. We were finally able to get a Senior Tech along with a Supervisor to come to the house. The Tech was awesome and identified the issue and fixed it within two hour. Others techs we have had spent up to 5 hours doing who knows what with no results. My suggestion to Spectrum is do a 'root cause analysis' with all techs to teach them what actually corrected issues that they didn't fix so they can be held accountable instead of them coming in and doing whatever is the easiest path and then leaving with no results. On a bright note, I want to thank Richard the awesome tech in Orlando. I wish I knew his last name because he is what Spectrum techs should aspire to. Not sure why Yelp says we are in CA. We set up an appt to get a look at why the sound was kicking in and out. This is the 2nd TV it has happened to. The technicians were very nice and helpful gave us a new cable box, they leave, my husband goes to change the channel and the box dies and no signal. Call customer service and waited 20 minutes on hold went on the website to the chat and it is an automated chat. Finally get through to someone he tells us he'll have to have service department call us back in one hour. An hour an half later still waiting no cable no TV on a Friday night. If i could leave 0 stars, I would. Spectrum, as a whole, is a very unprofessional company. Worst service I've ever received. After being set up on autopay for almost two years, I realized that they DOUBLED the price for my internet service 6 months ago and never even contacted me. No calls, emails, letters, etc., whatsoever. Nonetheless, they were quick to send a letter when my cc was stolen/updated because that months' payment could not be collected. Apparently, their policy is to inform you when you OWE them money not when they're taking it from you. Upon calling customer service, I was told that there was nothing that they could do because they do raise pricing as they like which is why you are not locked into any pricing with a contract. At that point, I chose to disconnect my service altogether. I was given my final balance and told to come into any location to drop off equipment at my earliest convenience. First thing in the morning, I return the equipment and I was charged $40+ more than I originally verified over the phone. The representative in the store told me it was because I returned equipment today and not yesterday. To avoid issues in store, I contacted customer service only to be told that their representatives made a mistake, but there was nothing they could do bc the account was closed. I went through THREE different representative and each one of them told me something different. Nothing was resolved. I will NEVER do business with Charter/Spectrum again. I saw reviews before signing up stating that this company is known to screw people over and I regret not listening. read more

Beware!!! My internet started throwing devices off the Wifi. I tried rebooting over and over again but the problem continued. I called Spectrum. The customer service rep checked my signal quality and said it was good. She then said that the internet package I had was 60 and if I upgraded to 100 that problem would stop. I asked how much that would be since we already pay almost $200 a month for cable and internet. She told me $9 more a month. I was hesitant because it's so expensive already but with my wife having to work from home we didnt have a choice. Before I agreed I stated multiple times I want to keep everything the same just the internet change. She stated yes everything stays the same. She said you have to change your boxes out at the Sectrum store so I did. I get home and activated my services to find out they had taken some of the main channels I watch. I called back to be told by a very nice, professional, apologetic customer service rep that I would now have to pay for those channels because I had an old Bright House package that they got rid of. They got me!!! I fell for it and I've talked to 2 other very nice reps to be told there is nothing they can do. I dont blame them, but I do blame Spectrum for doing shady stuff to get me out of my old package. They now want $25 for the channels I had before this. DONT FALL FOR IT!!!! read more

The following is to warn you about doing business with Spectrum. This company will lure you with a teasing rate; however, be aware that every 12 months, they will increase your rate an average of 33% after the first 12 months. Also, they will continue raising the prices every 12 months after. Their customer service is subpar, and they don't even try to work with you at all. I talked to a customer service manager today, and her attitude was condescending and unprofessional. I recommend that you shop around and think more than twice before deciding to do business with this company. The market is offering competitive internet service packages from other companies that strive for customer satisfaction and service. I work for a business located in Kissimmee, Florida. We have been working with Spectrum for a while now regarding the internet. The internet RF signal is not working properly and it keeps disconnecting calls randomly. I guess we are not high priority because they see that the signal needs to be fixed and they "might" get to it in 2 weeks. I was told I will not know because I will NOT receive a phone call from anyone. I will just know that it is fixed. I was told that if I call in that my ticket will be closed and new one will be issued that pushes me further back. I have never had such bad customer service. We are a non profit that depends on our members. Every time someone cannot get through or a phone disconnects that hurts the business. It is VERY clear that it doesn't matter. I am in the process of looking for another internet provider. If this is what professionalism is called I am out! read more

The most unreliable, unprofessional company I've ever dealt with. The customer service is a joke. They are rude, unprofessional and Spectrum will hire anyone. Most are seemingly uneducated and illiterate by the way they interact on the phone. They have no idea about how to deal with a customer who is upset with their bad internet and worse customer service. I had internet installed in January and it is now March and it still isn't working. It is either off totally or is off and on like a strobe light. I've had 8+ techs at my house in the past 6 weeks trying to figure it out and have spoken to 20+ of their HORRID, RUDE, STUPID, and unprofessional customer service reps. Recently dropped tv service and internet is next. We were paying $188 for basically no thrills products. Ever since they took over for brighthouse they have become vultures. Their constant advertising tells you a lot, they are losing customers fast. We have decided we watch basically 5 channels on cable, we found that directtv now and playstation vue as well as many others charge $35 for more then enough channels. Also combining over the air content antenna covers the little we watch on the locals. Look into that. We have our monthly bill down to $100 from $188. We also plan on switching to att fiber at 1G up and down bandwidth. When we dropped cable spectrum dropped out internet from 100MB to 60MB and increased the price $20 bucks a month for less bandwidth. This is unacceptable. They are losing their monopoly take advantage of this, the advertising is a stab in the back for current customers, saying new customers basically pay 60% less then existing. Also they tell you one thing then get another person to do the work and deny everything. I also agree with another yelper, channel 13 is a mouthpiece for the democratic party packaged in a fake news channel. In 2021 I was working from home and my internet service was repeatedly not working. They sent three different technicians to try and fix it. Then the last technician told me it was the in-house wiring and it had to be replaced. I called the office and talked with the department head and they told me I would have to contact an electrician to come to my home and replace my wiring. I told them this would be an impossible task in Florida with all the construction and I would have to cancel my service. They were kind and apologized for the problems and said they would credit my bill once they received my equipment. (mind you this took a month of no internet). So I immediately sent my equipment back and began to look for a wireless solution. They got my equipment back October 15th and today I get a call from a collection agency for $60 which were charges from October 1st to October 15th (for services I could not get). We've been with the company since it was Road Runner and have never missed a bill, but this shows what type of company this is. read more

Before WARNED Spectrum has a promotional period for new customers. When it's over they will increase your bill to more then twice the price you signed up for. I tried to Cancel 2 weeks before mine ended because I know there shady tactics. They told me if I stayed they would give me another promotional offer. I only have internet no phone or video. Price was 49.99 I agreed. But let me tell you they lied. Supposedly they all didn't note my account and can see who I talked to last even the Supervisor. And get this even if you get the person's name they don't know who that is. They won't cancel so they can get you for the new price even if you cancel 2 weeks before next billing cycle. I'm tell you guys Stay away unless all you have to do is be on the phone with these people who are extremely shady and corrupt. And you know something I actually believed the Supervisor at first. My advice is to do use this company for services cause they make it extremely difficult to cancel with lies so they can continue to bill you for the Jacked up price. But they picked the wrong one. I called be I posted this I went with a different internet provider and I let them know I cancel as of that phone call . They tried to put me on hold saying we could work it out. My debit card was stolen so it had to be replaced resulting in our auto payment being returned. As soon as I was notified I called to give them the new number. In Spectrum's eyes I was now a low life that doesn't pay my bills. I was required to personally go to their office and pay in cash or Cashiers Check. Upon paying in cash I was informed that I was no longer eligible for the "Special" Bundle deal we were under. That was a Brighthouse deal & we had to select a much higher priced Spectrum Bundle if we wanted to continue our cable and internet service. Talk about being Victimized.....first by the person that stole my debit card number and then by Spectrum. Ended up having to pay $40 more a month for much less service. Had we not already sold our house we would have opted for another provider. With only 6 weeks left before closing we were forced to pay the higher price. The cherry on this sundae? When I returned our cable boxes, remotes and modem the lady (same one that handled my cash payment & setting up new Spectrum bundle) informed me I had a prorated balance of $30.51. I told her to send a bill. When I received the bill ONE WEEK LATER it was headed with PAST DUE! Fortunately I don't have to deal with Spectrum at the new house. Warning: Do not trust Charter Spectrum sales reps. We were badly misled by one this week. This guy intentionally lied about prices and options just to close a sale. It was a blatant bait and switch. If you are considering working with them, be sure to get everything in writing before installation. Their words mean nothing. I learned today that there is a big disconnect between their sales department and customer service department, which allows shady sales reps to lie and work in the grey area without evidence or consequences. I've been with Spectrum (formally BrightHouse) for over 10 years. I have cable TV, High speed internet and home phone with them. I recently called them so I can downgrade my service for a few months since I'm having back surgery and will be out of work and their response is that they cannot downgrade the service, that I will have to cancel the cable. Their lower tier packages are only available to new customers which is totally insane, they will rather lose a long time customer than lower the package in which they are currently on...makes absolutely no sense...They deserve 0 stars! read more

Do not get used to your DVR. I'm on my fourth box. They each keep developing random and unrelated issues that send me back to exchange them. And none of my saved shows can be transferred to the new box. At least with Bright House, you wouldn't usually face a terrible wait time. Since they've become Spectrum, make sure you have a book handy, because you'll be on hold forever while your TV and Internet aren't functional. I've also noticed a significant periodic decrease in Internet speed and function. Sometimes, both my computer and phone will hang for several minutes before the page load craps out. Then it will be fine. The worst part of the decline in service is that they recently increased the monthly fees with nothing additional included. If they're going to charge more, they should at least provide BETTER service. Unfortunately, where I'm located, Spectrum is my only option, so I will most likely be "cutting the cord" soon. read more

One day I call Time Warner and I get a quote to switch to Spectrum. The rep. was wonderful and gave me a good quote. I told her I wanted to speak to my husband and would call tomorrow. I called the next day and spoke with another rep. and she quoted me over $50 more than the rep. the day before. The one who quoted me the $50 more told me her supervisor would call me back and I never heard from anyone. I will stay with Time Warner at least they can agree on prices. I have been a very disappointed customer of spectrum for years and to put things in a nutshell. cable service I recently disconnected due to the fact that I was paying over $200 per month for barely any channel line up and no additional features like DVR or anything. on demand rarely worked and it was less than basic cable you get a a motel 6- the bill constantly goes is with very little explanations aside of fees fees and more random fees. internet will work 50% of the time and when you call or email for support it's either automated or you get one of the 2- rude customer service representativ- foreign who will not listen to you but keep repeating what you say and lie about their name and give you John smith when you know darn well it isn't when they can't pronounce their owner name and are never able to actually resolve issues, just repeat your issue back to you over and over and over again. I'm unable to use another provider at my address so the World Wide Web is where I've had to take it. if you can avoid using this company for any service I recommend looking into another option. thanks for your time.
